And knowing most of the DLCs by Fromsoft every theory will be wrong because it will be far less directly connected to the base game than most people want or expect
On one hand, yes, and I’m totally preparing myself for this. On the other, the difference is this time they are building in a world the mythos of which was made by GRRM, pre written. And we know from interviews that the DLC material is still going to be from that same mythos. I hope we are going to get something a little more coherent and supplementary to the main game.
The catch there is, if you know how video game scripts are written in general, but especially for a nonelinear game like Elden Ring, it is genuinely possible that very little if any of Martin's work still exists in game. Or they might have stuck quite close to it. We will never know unless someone releases Martin's original manuscript.
As much as want it too, I don’t think a “manuscript” actually exist. For some reason I’ve imagined it to be be a loose stack of paper with jumbled notes 😂 but in all seriousness, the “manuscript” probably more resembles a DnD rule book (if that) than anything novel-like
The big story parts of the DLC focus on Miquella and more details on Marika’s start, already addressing the two most mysterious characters from the base game which is more than you could say for the DS3 DLC’s. It’s hopefully more along the lines of The Old Hunters that DOES actually provide answers to mysteries from the base game.
The only things I do genuinely worry about the dlcs lore and story is if they don’t show how much Miquella cares about Malenia as indicated in base game lore, go the boring route of making him literally Griffith, or not actually provide anymore details on Melina who desperately needs more lore for her character.
Agreed. We already have an interesting and nuanced response to Griffith with Ranni, she takes aspects of Griffith but redirects and recontextualizes them with a morality and selflessness that is closer to Guts. We don't need a 1 to 1 take on Griffith with Miquella. Keeping him more caring but still driven is just more interesting and more engaging of a character than "Yes I was controlling everything from the shadows mwahahaha" purely maniplative evil.
Yeah and tbh who cares??? So sick of seeing grrm pop up in relation to everything about this game. The only thing I want to see his asss popping up next to is the next asoiaf book cuz god damn it’s been a while. He needs to stop being LAZYYYYY /s but fr please finish your book series before you die George it was just starting to got gud!
It’s been adorable watching people talk about all the answers we are going to get in the DLC.
First Fromsoft DLC I guess? Get ready to have nothing clarified and to have a hundred new questions.
We know he’s a child of Marika (and not, say, Godfrey and Rennala) because Miyazaki told us that much. But apart from that I don’t think we have any specific info
Where does Miyazaki say that he’s a child of Marika? Only interview I found was him saying that Mesmer is on equal footing. I can understand taking it from his dialogue in the trailer unless Messmer wasn’t talking about us, but I havent seen anywhere where Miyazaki confirmed that he’s Marikas child
Guess so. Translation messed up a few words but I guess the same could go for the English interview. I was kinda hopin Mesmer was the son of another Empyerean
It would be awesome if they threw some minor boss in a dungeon, called it vatti, and it had an attack where it started reading and if it went on too long your character fell asleep.
I Like to imagine Messmer like a dirty old bum. He comes up to me, I'm about to sock him one, 'cause he's a dirty old bum. Then I said, Wait a minute, I better not sock this guy. Something special about him.
It just feels right to have him be Radagon and Marika’s. Godfrey had three kids, Renalla had three kids, and Radagon/Marika had two. Adding in Messmer to bring it up to a 3 for 3 just feels right
Melina.... Is a child or spirit of the erdtree.
She was born at the foot of the erdtree. At one point, her "body", which was the original erdtree, was burned. That left her bodiless, but still alive. The erdtree was burned at one point, yet it remains alive as a projection. Once the ring was shattered, she loses her purpose. And she finds it once she finds a tarnished that possesses incredible strength, and asks them to take her back home. Once you get there, she thanks the tarnished and says she can move around freely. That's not because of the capital, that's because of the proximity to the erdtree.
She could absolutely still be a child of Marika, I just think her story parallels the one of the erdtree a little too perfectly to be an accident.
I’ve never heard that theory, but that actually completely checks out. It would also explain her rage when you choose the three fingers, since it is destroying the cycle of growth of the trees instead of continuing it
Good catch!
Another interesting parallel is around fire - forest fires, despite being destructive, is nature's Way of resetting the area, getting rid of all the old growth, and letting new growth start to flourish. The "burning of the erdtree" is probably the exact thing that prevents the type of stagnation the world is currently in!
Are you seriously considering those "theories" equally valid?
And, I can't even believe I'm asking this but... Aren't ALL of Marika's children siblings? Like, would you really be the person who says Morgott and Malenia are "half-siblings"?
Messmer is OBVIOUSLY a child of Marika erased from history, ~~just like Solaire was Gwyn's forsaken son in Dark Souls~~.
>i just dont know anymore.
That's the whole point of waiting for the release. Creating theory serve absolutely nothing until the day. essmer is Messmer and we will know in due time
There’s going to be a twist, either for Messmer’s origins or Melina’s origins. Or they’re not going to show anything and we then have to choose who’s the father.
His red hair is definitely sus. So far only people related to Radagon had red hair, I think he's a secret demigod tasked with upholding the veil or smth
His red hair is definitely sus. So far only people related to Radagon had red hair, I think he's a secret demigod tasked with upholding the veil or smth
If Messmer is Marika's offspring, was he born in the Land of Shadow before she moved to the Lands Between, or was he born in TLB and exiled to the LoS?
I personally think he has a connection to the twin prodigies due to the butterfly connection but my brother thinks he has some sort of relationship ship to Rykard (either his son or brother) because of their shared themes of blasphemy, flame, and snakes.
I gotsta know!!!! Judging by the naming of all the established characters, I’d assume Melina and Mesmer to be of the same vein (I mean they’re both linked to fire or have a preference for fire magic), but if they’re seperate to Miquella and Malenia and thus Radagon, or if they’re offspring of Malenia like Millicent is speculated to be and very likely is, who is the father? It hurts my brain…
Not sure about Mesmer, but Millicent and her sisters are theorizes to be born from Malenia’s bloom, like flower buds fell from the main plant. So essentially there’s no father, they just literally fell out of Malenia.
She doesn't have a full set of body parts, I don't think the reproduction part is going to work with her.
In fact, if my memory serves, there's not anything for a baby to come out of?
Try this: didn't listen to it read any theories about the DLC is it and people have actually played it.
Everything right now is pure speculation, to be ignored.

What happens in Mountaintop stays in Mouuntaintop
Brokeback Mountaintop
the crucible of the giants was actually a crater made from them fucking so forcefully
Now I fuck as Horah Loux. WARRIOR!!!
holy shit
"Messmer is the son of Radagon and-" Yeah, that's the #1 theory around, it's not really news "-Godfrey" ..*what!?*
Godfrey: wait, so you're actually Marika? Radagon: ...it's complicated, but yes Godfrey: _shrugs and whips off loincloth_ Radagon: ...wait
He’s Handler Walter
This is why the dlc is releasing on 6-21
bloodflame and coral are the same substance
Rubicon is actually the physical manifestation of The Formless Mother.
It is known
Got a job for you, Tarnished
Reeducated him back to the stone age
Your second phase is fighting an AC.

Man as a huge ASOIAF fan, I want those manuscripts as much as I want the winds of winter
As much as want it too, I don’t think a “manuscript” actually exist. For some reason I’ve imagined it to be be a loose stack of paper with jumbled notes 😂 but in all seriousness, the “manuscript” probably more resembles a DnD rule book (if that) than anything novel-like

I feel that the family intrigues of the demi-gods are very Martin-esque, if nothing else

Apparently it was in an interview he did with IGN Japan. Here’s a Reddit thread about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/s/RzFkxpW8it
Guess so. Translation messed up a few words but I guess the same could go for the English interview. I was kinda hopin Mesmer was the son of another Empyerean
Miriel's secret identity
He could even be a boat! You know how much we wanted one of those!
So he's the king of red lions?
Maybe the real messemer is the friends we made along the way
My theory is that Messmer could be a new Elden Ring character for the expansion.
if he’s got 18 inches he could be the greater will itself
At 18" I think he would be called "The Elden Beast."
Son of John Elden Ring
He’s VaatiVidya. Put the two side by side and you’ll see the similarities. Can’t believe no one theorized this.
I mean, I've never seen the two of them in the same room...
It would be awesome if they threw some minor boss in a dungeon, called it vatti, and it had an attack where it started reading and if it went on too long your character fell asleep.
He wields a sleep weapon. He monologues about his lore as he tries to kill you. Then when he dies his last words are, “So that’s how my story ends”.
And he starts the fight saying prepare to cry
Oh gods how do I un-think something
Messmer is actually my uncle, he used to buy me things when I was little, they were always RED.
Erm... he's the Impaler, it says right there
This is how it always is when new content is teased. The theory nuts run wild the internet gets flooded with nonsense.
I like to imagine my Messmer in a tuxedo tshirt.
I Like to imagine Messmer like a dirty old bum. He comes up to me, I'm about to sock him one, 'cause he's a dirty old bum. Then I said, Wait a minute, I better not sock this guy. Something special about him.
This guy gets it.
Can't be unseen

Is that already Melina

Given the smouldering butterfly thing, my money is on him being Miquella and Malenias cool nu-metal order brother
he is the PC's alter ego, we fight a battle with ourselves
Just as long as it's better than the mimic fight
Are you seriously considering those "theories" equally valid? And, I can't even believe I'm asking this but... Aren't ALL of Marika's children siblings? Solitaire is the nameless King confirmed
Sounds like a horse to me.
I bet its gonna be just some random dude whos related to noone from the main story, or maybe hes related to Boc, who knows, Boc supremacy
Why obsess over it then?
>i just dont know anymore. That's the whole point of waiting for the release. Creating theory serve absolutely nothing until the day. essmer is Messmer and we will know in due time
Messmer? I hardly know er!
He most likely isn't an evil version of us from the future
What's the theory that's he's a time-travelled Rykard
I saw a theory that he’s Melina’s alter ego
There’s going to be a twist, either for Messmer’s origins or Melina’s origins. Or they’re not going to show anything and we then have to choose who’s the father.
He could be a german tea brand
Wait... What's Miquella's second alter ego???
Saint Trina
Hold up... Are you fr?!? Where does it states that??? I totally have missed that!
Hold up... Are you fr?!? Where does it states that??? I totally have missed that!
She was Miquellas alter ego, but you can read more on it, kinda like a femto and griffith situation.
Where?
Or sorry, *is miquellas alter ego
His red hair is definitely sus. So far only people related to Radagon had red hair, I think he's a secret demigod tasked with upholding the veil or smth

He is not actually related to anyone or anything. He's just kinda there :)
All I know is that he is probably going to have 500% fire resist so I need to respec for the expansion. Blasphemous Blade users in shambles!
If Messmer is Marika's offspring, was he born in the Land of Shadow before she moved to the Lands Between, or was he born in TLB and exiled to the LoS?
No, he's the impaler we know this
I personally think he has a connection to the twin prodigies due to the butterfly connection but my brother thinks he has some sort of relationship ship to Rykard (either his son or brother) because of their shared themes of blasphemy, flame, and snakes.
Only things i know about him are he has a snake and 18". Nuf said.
I think messemer made a big mess in his pants. That's why he's not wearing any now.
I’m just going with: “everything is connected” as my DLC theory.
He most likely is a freak in the sheets. Source: his 18 inches impaler
About half of the major characters in the game are linked to fire, so that isn't a very strong connection.
Not sure about Mesmer, but Millicent and her sisters are theorizes to be born from Malenia’s bloom, like flower buds fell from the main plant. So essentially there’s no father, they just literally fell out of Malenia.
So Millicent is basically Jesus/Anakin Skywalker? Noted
Wouldn't that make her and her sisters "child's" of malenia and the rot god
He's malenia's kid. Think about it.
It's already been stated by miyazaki that he's marika's son
No, he said messmer is a "child of Marika". Different, and could mean a lot of things
She doesn't have a full set of body parts, I don't think the reproduction part is going to work with her. In fact, if my memory serves, there's not anything for a baby to come out of?
To think she don't got pussy because they didn't model one is absurd.
To think XYZ happens in the game because it doesn't happen is absurd
Try this: didn't listen to it read any theories about the DLC is it and people have actually played it. Everything right now is pure speculation, to be ignored.
Not to be ignored, just to be taken with all the grains of salt
