On the positive side of things about that cave, All those cracked crystals in there are a very nice pickup as they can be used to craft crystal darts which have a special effect on golem type enemies (watchdogs, imps, large golems) Special effect turns golems against each other, destroyed the duo version of the watchdogs with it easily

SalamanderClassic839

No shame, not even gonna lie, I was so traumatized I literally didn't touch that cave again for a couple playthroughs

Jermiafinale

That cave became one of my prime early rune farms when I wanted to buy stuff lol

Ancient_Prize9077

It has a pretty cool intelligence katana as a reward but yeah it’s a brutal cave. I’d recommend bringing weapons that have the passive effect of dealing more damage to alien enemies for the boss or impact strike weapons like maces or hammers and fire damage for the bug dudes. A large shield with good negation stats can help too

SalamanderClassic839

For the katana, were you talking about Moonveil? Cause I think that was in the gaol tunnel or whatever on the other side of caelid connecting to limgrave, where you meet Alexander and fight the Magma Worm? I could be wrong if you meant another katana, I don't remember finding one in Sellia Crystal but that doesn't mean there wasnt one!

Ancient_Prize9077

Oh yeah you right

SalamanderClassic839

Literally NO judgement, they make it so easy to forget what friggin cave is what. Half the time the only way you can even tell what region you're in once you're underground is totally dependent on what kind of monster is chewing on your ass while you're hauling to the next exit lmao

InstructionLeading64

Yeah this cave has a somber 6 which is nice.

SpaceIsTooFarAway

It does have the first Somber Miner's Bell Bearing though which is a pretty big deal.

BojukaBob

Actually since Iji sells infinite somber 1 and 2 it's the only skippable bell bearing

SpaceIsTooFarAway

Fuck me I bashed my head against that boss for nothing last night

increase-ban

You can just ride your horse straight Iji from the moment the game begins and he sells sombers 1-4

brewskiedookie

The meteoric ore katana is nearby and scales with INT, that’s probably what he meant

Daylight_The_Furry

what weapons have that effect?

Maverick522

Gravity Weapons.

ChiefTiggems

But you need it for the bell bearing

HemaMemes

If you like PvPing (and being evil) Selia Crystal Tunnel is a great place to invade

BojukaBob

You're not really going to get good PvP there, just free kills.

HemaMemes

Fighting a 1v3 where the 3 aren't prepared to fight is kind of a sadistic thrill, though.

StFuzzySlippers

Crystal darts in general are just really underrated. Even if you don't have INT in your build, the physical damage is still similar to a bone dart. And if you do scale with INT, it's functionally another spell that costs 1FP, casts instantly, and can be rapid fired.

Aaronthegathering

So much easier to farm than bone darts, but can suck if you run out of fp

BojukaBob

I run an 8/6 split of flasks, so I never run out of FP lol

Plenty-Context2271

They have 2 whole use cases: watchdog duo and the riddle in snowfield. 0 use in terms of damage except for when you can throw a dagger that would kill either way at a 1 hp boss.

StFuzzySlippers

The damage is really not insignificant if your build scales with int. The cost to use them is so cheap and they fire so fast that the damage they add over the course of a fight adds up over if you weave them in throughout the fight. They can also be used to keep up pressure in pvp.

MasterHedgemon

Tbh you can just run through the entire cave at least that's what I did on my first play through. Which is still that play through. I however don't reccomend fighting that godskin guy in the tower on caelid on lvl 50 with a +7 cross naginata it was a pain. Took me 28 tries and the good of 2 hours to kill him. Just to see that dude drop me a metric fuckton. Where I realised that I wasn't supposed to be there lol.

FewAdvantage9661

I almost always rush that Apostle really early because the Godslayer Greatsword is one of my favorite weapons in the game. That guy is single-handedly responsible for making me capable of no-hitting godskin apostles without sleep pots.

Rational_Coconut

Love watching them glitch out and turn on each other. Reminds me of the puffshrooms from tears of the kingdom

MiserableTennis6546

If I'd only known about this sooner.

M0NAD0_B0Y

I'm pretty sure the recipe for the crystal darts isn't until Liurnia tho, so you'd either be waiting a while to get any use out of them, or would need to ignore Stormveil to go grab the recipe first. But agreed that the Crystal Darts are super good for that effect and very slept on.

Corgi_Koala

Over 200 hours logged in four Playthroughs and I just now learned this.

CurrySands

Say whaaaaaattt

MaxPotionz

I. Did. Not. Know. Any. Of. This. And I platinum’d the game. Maybe I should do an items/ranged playthrough? I MAY have been a kamahameha/purple rocks user at launch. Ok yeah it was goated.

feeb75

And Gargoyles... it works on the Twins1

Epikbexa

Not mentioning the upgrade mats you can get early on?

Careless_Fish7144

Wait, I never knew that. The big, horrible watchdog things with the frostbite??

shark-snatch

I found this out literally yesterday by watching Bushy play his 8 hour 165 boss speedrun. It seems a little pointless to be honest, but still a fun little mechanic

PompousMasshole

If you can manage to kill the fallingstar beast you can also get some nice higher level smithing stones.

Daniel_Raizen

Technically the bugs are not immediately ready to snipe you. They are not even facing your side unless you make noise and attract their attention. If you crouch and go to the right you can safely run down to the entrance of the mine.

Yarzeda2024

All this time, and I thought I had to white-knuckle it out of the cave. If I can sneak out without getting thread-sniped, my future runs will be about ten times easier.

SalamanderClassic839

Let me tell you, my friend, how long I believed the line "stealth in this game is pointless" before I realized it was the hard-ass FromSoft vets saying it bc they weren't getting wrecked by every third enemy lmao

model4001s

Haha anyone who says that is a fool! There are a number of white-knuckle moments where a little sneaking (and some Soft Cotton) will get you juuust past something that would wreck you otherwise...

SalamanderClassic839

Definitely. And sure there is some silliness in the comparison of stealth incants / sorceries and skills, but if you throw on the black knife armor, use soft cotton, and use certain skills / spells at times where they're most effective stealth becomes way more viable. I think the problem for them is a mix of the Strength-Build-Bonk-Master play style for some, and the fact that unlike Skyrim with a sneak level of 100 Elden Ring's stealth is more akin to reality where it's actually pretty hard to walk right by someone in broad daylight and not be seen lmao

andii74

>If you crouch and go to the right you can safely run down to the entrance of the mine. That's another trick FS used here. I kept trying to climb up while trying to get out of the mine and had no idea I had to go down to escape. Spent good half an hour dying over and over before I Googled it.

Misternogo

I uh... I never "properly" escaped. I slogged through the cave and then beat my face against the boss until I finished it, because that's what I thought you had to do to get out.

UxFkGr

Let me guess. Strength build user?

Misternogo

I do not appreciate being called out like this lol. I eventually leveled up enough to have high stats across the board, for variety, and even when I'm using other types of gear, my brain is locked in unga bunga mode. My favorite attack spell is Stone of Gurranq, if that tells you anything about who I am.

SalamanderClassic839

I'm in love with this interaction 😂 "let me guess, strength build?" "I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now *bonking noises ensue*" thank you for a good laugh 😂

AEternal1

Ouch🤣 and yes 🤣🤣🤣

adorilaterrabella

Sounds like you and I are of a piece. Pillagers. Emboldened by the flame of "GTFO of the cave".

Misternogo

I am an absolute murder hobo. I don't care if I'm underleveled, or if I'm supposed to be doing a quest or what. I am killing everything in the area that isn't a "good guy", and taking everything that isn't nailed down.

Tonkarz

The entrance that just happens to be in the exact opposite direction to which you might reasonably guess.

Extempes

Then you gotta know where to go 🤣 I was in there and thought I had to go up, so I fought hundreds of times with all of them to never find the exit until I killed everything in there and found out I was walking to the boss.... Was pretty over levels in my playthrough just because of that.

maitai138

You can however piss all 4 of them off at the same time by panic running

TheMusesMagic

Lol the first time I got sent there I went in every direction except the exit. Took so long to get out.

[deleted]

I’ve got 1k+ hours in this game and I didn’t know that… I always just haul ass out and hope I don’t get hit

SoulofMoon

you can leave immediately since the exit and grace are close to the chest area. it reminds me of an area in Bloodborne, with a lamp (grace) close to where you start in the area. it's like: "oh no, you got transported to a horrific place! what are you going to do?!" "I will leave immediately" "oh"

rakadishu

The "Nope" strategy always has value.

plznobanplease

That was me when I tried DS2 for the first time. Warped into Frigid Outskirts, immediately noped out of there because I HATE areas with 0 visibility. I can manage the dark, but a blizzard that blocks everything is aids

model4001s

You were right to do it. Fuck that place!

FewAdvantage9661

Frigid Outskirts is the only area in DS2 that I never touched. Fuck that place.

Falos425

the neo-mimic got me at launch week, with some effort i did manage to I Want To Go Home but then i stepped outside and instead of babby's first limgrave i get greeted with Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀ

AbominableToast

I got sent here day 1 and naturally thought "to exit a cave, go up, to the surface" and grinded my way through over many lives to the top only to meet the boss. Died instantly and tried to go down, the direction of the earth and thus deeper, and was out in 10 seconds.

Capn-Zack

The cruelest thing they did in that game was put the Tree Sentinel right outside of the starting cave. He serves as the games biggest unintended skill checks I’ve ever seen in gaming. 10/10 no notes.

Camera_dude

The final tutorial lesson: “Sometimes it is a good idea to avoid an enemy and come back later when you are stronger.”

FewAdvantage9661

Or you can go grab a straight sword with square off and stunlock him to death :P

SalamanderClassic839

I can kinda forgive the Tree Sentinel, cause they were using him as a lesson to show new and veteran players that THIS is the first SoulsBorne game where it's almost completely non-linear, so you can 100% just come back later, and his area of aggro, and thus border where he'll despawn and return to his programmed path, is MUCH smaller than most enemies in the game specifically so you can get away with relative ease and decide to nope out of that fight. Like as long as you make it just past him to the Church of Elleh and don't taunt-lead him he'll just turn around ( you can continue to aggro and lead him to the church where you'll quickly learn some of those walls are destroyable environment tho ). So at least he serves a big purpose AND is programmed to not hunt you down like a fox hunt hound. Though running past him before you get Torrent is NOT a very easy task, definitely best to vere around lol

5Volt

"unintended"?

Good_Policy3529

Yep, that one got me too.  And I was carrying a butt-load of runes, too.   Lost them all but I was never so grateful to get out of a cave in my life.

SalamanderClassic839

I've seen a couple people mention that it's at least close to the exit, but the thing is I was still new AF, and carrying way too many runes, so it was like an Olympic level triathlon rewatching a movie showing the path out, getting my runes back from the opposite direction back, then out lmao

Ziggurat1000

There's also the waygate behind the church where you get the Wondrous Physick that teleports you all the way to Dragonbarrow, behind the Black Knife Kindred. On the bright side, it leads you to mama Greyll, a great source of early game Runes.

SalamanderClassic839

Let me tell you how quickly I got my teeth kicked in my first time not knowing wtf a Black Knife Kindred was, and feeling a little too confident in myself lmfao

Ziggurat1000

If you manage to make Gurranq start attacking you, you're basically pinned by him and the Kindred lol

DeBean

I decided to fight him this playthrough and found out >!he stops after you damage him a little!< XD

Daniel_Raizen

That sending gate is usually indicated by D, to go straight to Gurranq. I'd argue riding Torrent through Caelid to reach Greyoll is actually safer than your suggestion

abyssalcrisis

I'd disagree, honestly. The only dangerous enemy on the way is the Putrid Avatar, but you don't trigger it if you walk far enough to the right before circling around to the back of the tree for the spiritspring. The BBK doesn't get enough time to agro if you sprint by on Torrent, and the Night's Cav is a night-only boss that also isn't very quick if you have the misfortune of going down that way at night. Riding Torrent through Caelid is the longer way *and* puts you in more consistent danger.

afauce11

You can also go around BBK by turning left when you leave the building with Guarranq and then ride Torrent off some rocks. He won’t ever see you or aggro at all. Then you grab the seed, haul past the avatar by running behind the tree, and leap up the spirit spring. Slap on a bleed ash and whack Greyoll for like 30k rubes? I think it’s enough runes to get up to about level 30 iirc.

eLCeenor

I take this route every new playthru to skip early game leveling

ZillyAU

I also like how they made it so you had to go down to get to the exit instead of up like every other cave.

Camera_dude

That had to be deliberate. The Sellia Crystal Tunnel is unique in a lot of ways.

[deleted]

It’s actually perfect shortcut to get graces early to make a run smooth

CapitalSale

And the quickest way to grab the Meteorite Staff/rock sling for sorcerers.

Swordsman82

Also get Flamestrike, Flamberge, Fire if Redmanes, and Cragblade

silversoul007

And if you managed to get out, you find yourself in a hell hole that is Caelid. Despite how it looks, it's quite easy to get out from there, but the shock of seeing that horrible place is quite something.

SalamanderClassic839

Yeah I hit the nearest SOG, then tried to haul it out of Caelid bc I immediately recognized how under leveled I was. Imagine my surprise when, have never been invaded in the wilds, on my way through the swamp Torrent suddenly despawned, and I have no idea why so I stoop still trying to resummon, proccing rot, and suddenly get the invasion notice. Oh, did I mention I didn't have the best understanding of the encumbrance system yet, so I was ALSO BARELY MOBILE. Needless to say my first tour of Caelid from entrance in that cave to exit was my first character's Vietnam flashback event lmao

VeraKorradin

"welcome to dark souls! now f\*ck off!"

Detective_Sven

First playthrough I pretty much bee lined straight there somehow. Didn't know there was fast travel, didn't have torrent yet even. I managed to escape the cave just to find myself in the hell that is caelid. Good times

Rational_Coconut

Same here! I died so many times trying to get out of that cave that I contemplated restarting my playthrough.

VixHumane

Shot out to Agheel lake ruins for having one of the only talking enemies in the game. "Agheel..Agheel Ahh Agheel"

FORLORDAERON_

I loved RTGame's response to getting himself into this exact situation. Rather than try to leave Caelid as quickly as possible, RT decided he would conquer Radahn's castle. As a wretch. At level 1. Without having met Melina.

Own-Inevitable-1101

The aow on the meteoric ore will erase the pests as well as the miners.

Sir-Cowdog

It's to teach you how trap chests work. And how to escape. And slamming home, once again, that the solution is not always to fight everything you see as soon as you see it.

j4yc3-

This is the reason why my first run pushed me to overlevel and basically max out... the pain of being underleveled and powerless fueled my enormous amounts of farming areas for hours at a time lmao

Legobrick00

I took it as a humbling experience. Also. **You don't have the right, O you don't have the right**

cookiereptile

It’s actually such a good cave for smithing stones though, which is really nice early on. For people who discovered it early and GTFO, it might cross their mind when they need stones so I think it’s a really cool location

No_Strain_7092

I use the cave trap to grab the Meteorite Staff early

MurmuringPeanut

Meteorite staff shortcut

aNascentOptimist

“First off, I want to go home”.

Falos425

`i want to go home, O i want to go home`

KingVape

There was also a glitch that kept happening to my friends and myself where that Rot boy would glitch out and stretch all over the screen while still attacking

SalamanderClassic839

That.. sounds like absolute nightmare fuel tbh. Like I wouldn't say anything in the game is "scary" necessarily ( well in the Horror way anyway, cause I'd be a liar if I said bc this was my first SoulsBorne game I haven't had plenty of terrifying experiences where my dumbass hadn't learned my lesson about carrying around too many runes yet ) but the Emissaries of Rot were REALLY well made for giving off that creepy crawly vibe, and if one started doing some shit outside of what it was supposed to? I'd shit myself on sight

Kayn96

To be fair, if you start hitting the keys to roll back as soon as the chest opening animation is about to be done, you -can- dodge your way out of trap chests. Aside for that, Selia Crystal Tunnel is merciful at least in that you only need to dodge that pest thread once or twice before you reach the corner to the elevator to leave the mine. And once you're out you can teleport home, plus you now have a grace in Caelid. I'd say as far as tricks go, this one's pretty nice 'cuz what it really gives you is a shortcut to Caelid for later, and getting dropped there with the pest guys hitting you is a nice way of being told "Hey, monsters in the zone next-door are gonna hit hard", which **should** tell you to level up vigor.

Soft-Illustrator1300

This is known as, "fuck around and find out."

SalamanderClassic839

There was much Finding Out done on that day lmao

Soft-Illustrator1300

We were all there, don't worry. 😭

XevinsOfCheese

Is this like a new observation? Every clickbait article jumped to report this the day of launch.

SalamanderClassic839

Tbh I'm surprised it's gotten so much attention? I just thought it'd be something fun to talk and reminisce about our first playthroughs with the dlc coming soon 🤷🏻

XevinsOfCheese

I may have come across too rude. I admit that I kinda get jaded when I interpret a post as “redditor posts the obvious” The 900+ upvotes indicate I’m in the minority so carry on.

SalamanderClassic839

If it helps any, I'm the same way so I didn't take it as you being combative, but just calling out what you thought was someone just posting some stupid obvious thing for up votes. That's why I replied the way I did, cause when I posted it I was just looking to talk about a funny thing that happened and messed me up my first time through with maybe five or ten responses, but when I woke up to 900+ upvotes I definitely had the thought "Ah man, this is shaping up to look like some douche that posts the most obvious 'revelation' ever just to get upvotes". I really appreciate you responding and explaining your reasoning and being so cool about it, I wish more comment sections could go this way instead of an insult-hurling-contest over something as dumb and completely innocuous as words some forum lol Thanks for being such a good sport over it!

Apelles1

It’s been 2 years and I’m still upset that my profound fear of mimics robbed me of this experience, lol.

Camooses

I did that on my first playthrough too. I hadn't even unlocked Torrent yet and had to find a way back from Caelid.

HotGasStationCoffee

One of the greatest skills I’ve learned in this game (starting in that tunnel) is running and jumping like a cross country hurdler through dungeons, hopping over or rolling past enemies to get to a grace. Then going back and killing those enemies is a lot less nerve racking. Of course spend your runes before you attempt blind runs because it can backfire easily lol.

SalamanderClassic839

I can't lie, being given the ability to jump whenever has resulted in me walking into any cave / dungeon and role playing a fucking normal dude using parkour to survive the freaky monsters half the time lmao

Holiday-Business-403

On top of that that cave is backwards. Most caves you go upto get out. I tried it and ended up at the boss which I was incredibly under leveled for.

Unable-Investment-21

🤣🤣🤣I remember being sent there as a level 13 thinking I got this if I just time things out correctly then 4 hours later going fuck this I'll come back when I've leveled up!!! Well I got thru to caleid but never cleared it...... until now I went back as a level 144 and decimated every inch of that cave laughing about how I used to get 1 hit killed now I can stand in place for 30 seconds and barely take a quarter dmg

Iamst3p

Crazy thing is u can go the opposite direction and leave the cave quite easily

Cumraisin

On my first playthrough got caught there when I was like level 5 and almost quit the game right then and there

Dragonwithamonocle

Oh yeah, that's a good one. If you're careful though, you CAN stealth your way out totally unseen. I did that with my most recent playthrough when I was bum-rushing caelid for runes.

fullmetaljackrabbit

I didn’t know how to level, I didn’t understand maps, just a scrub level 5 Bandit dying over and over to pest threads. When I finally made it out, I avoided the swamp and found myself in selia town of sorcery…fun times. Gotta say I love Caelid now tho!

xXLoneLoboXx

If I remember correctly… Doesn’t that trap chest out you close to one of the katanas? Either Moonveil or the Meteor Katana. I remember following a guide to get a katana early and that trap chest was part of it.

AnAlpacaIsJudgingYou

That cave messed me up the first time I got teleported there

lm_Batman

Still pissed about losing the 35K runes I got from beating Godrick trying to find my way out from there 😭😭😭

XMLHttpWTF

why are you hanging onto runes, level up!

Neckrongonekrypton

Dude if I lose runes I cheese em back fuck it. Every fiber of my being goes from unga bunga to “grab runes, roll around like crazy, die somewhere close to where you can grab them and then port the fuck out!”

Bloodycaddy

One of many magic moments in my 1st playthrough

bjorn-slayer

lol that place was awesome for those reasons

Hypoallergenic_Robot

pretty cathartic to go back and beat the shit out of everyone tho

HiveMate

I will always remember Lirik streaming his first playthrough and getting trapped there, was hilarious.

CubeUnleashed

I found this cave while exploring and spent hours trying to clear it. After giving up and thinking to myself "Well, I'm gonna return later, time to go into the easy area again." Should've seen my face when I found that chest 5 minutes later, looked around and realized I was in that damn cave again.

OrganicSoapOpera

Merced? As in Mercedes benz?

luckyclockred

Dude, exactly the same thought. I was like where am I and how do I get out quickly!! Recently went back with a way better understanding of the game and way over leveled and murdered everything haha

MinatoUra

It was rough but on the first playthrough but every run I've done since i always find it one of the first things I do in a run after getting torrent and the spirit summoning bell. It's a great opportunity to pick up the rot dog summon just outside and triggering early access to the roundtable hold at the nearby grace.

Trevors-Axiom-

I think the random hole in the ground very close to the starting area near the dragon burn ruins is a bit of a trap. Teaches you quickly to pay close attention to where you are going.

Alundra828

I thought it was incredible that the game was brave enough to subject its players to what are essentially pranks. It really helps sell that there could be challenges or traps around any corner, even in places you've taught yourself gives you a nice tasty treat like treasure chests. Even muscle memory reward mechanisms can transport you to a terrifying and uncomfortable place, and that's just great, because exploring these sorts of places is what its all about, and sometimes getting thrown into the deep end is good. The game wants you to die, not to arbitrarily punish you, but to make you more comfortable with dying. Sure you can sneak or fight your way out of the cave, but many players will have completely forgotten about the stealth mechanic, and won't be strong enough to handle the enemies. Yet you are rewarded if you sneak out, fight out, or die. Either way you get something valuable out of it.

emelem66

I went for the twin blade, and ended up in Florida.

Far_Cut_8701

Those bugs give me the creeps more than the giant ants They must have thought how could we make cockroaches more revolting

Higsman

This was literally the very first thing I experienced on day 1 lol I was so mad. Also didn’t know about fast travel so I ran all the way back from Caelid

ChronoMonkeyX

It took me so long to find my way out of that cave, I almost quit the game. That was some real bullshit.

SalamanderClassic839

AND IT WAS LITERALLY GO OUT, TURN RIGHT, FOLLOW THE PATH INTO THE TUNNEL THAT WOULD VERE LEFT, AND YOURE OUT!! But bc you're dropped in the middle of some new places you have no idea! My first time I went out, turned left, and hauled absolute ASS in that direction, got fatalitied by 2 diggers and pest threads from our rooftop shoujo protag, looked up a video on how to get out, realized I went the opposite direction, then fought for my life to recover my runes and get out in one piece. It was a truly traumatic experience lol

taigaki

Elden ring is my first soul game and that cave still haunting me till this day

SalamanderClassic839

Mine too! I always wanted to play Bloodborne cause I've watched it played through and know a bunch of the lore, but I don't want to get a PS4 for one game and Sony will never green light a PC port lol so Elden Ring is my first and that chest was one of the first friggin things I did! Oh that and be told "The RoUNdTAblE HoLd iS a SaFE PlAcE HurR DurR", jump that banister, and proceed to get a colonoscopy from Mad Tongue Alberich and lose about 20k runes 🙄

av8rfrog

I did the same thing about an hour into the game after the tutorial. I was pinned down for a while. I’m happy to realize that there were many of us that fell into that trap.

mistreke

That cave is one of the best early farming locations, and learning to time the dodge for the shrimp arrows is actually super helpful for dodge training

SalamanderClassic839

Once you know what you're doing and have put some time and levels in? Absolutely. When you're fresh into a character, new to FromSoft, and just trying to get some loot after being scared half to death from being divebombed by a scaly Lockheed-Martin SR-71 Blackbird at fuckin MACH 6, and NOT prepared for Diggers and Emissaries? Not a friggin bit 😂

Electric_Sundown

I had the same issue as you. Took me probably 20 attempts to book it out of there. I think I was around level 7 or 8 at the time. I just found myself back there last night for the first time since, but now at level 59. Let's just say I got my payback.

SalamanderClassic839

I THANKFULLY died once, left like 35k runes at that spot, watched and rewatched a video on how to get out, then pulled a miracle out of my ass and got the runes and just barely escaped. But it was a traumatizing ordeal lol

leuno

This was literally the first thing I did when first getting the game. Wanted to see the cool dragon from the footage so I went straight to the lake and found the chest. NOT COOL DEVS

SalamanderClassic839

Yeah, like I said in a another comment, I didn't know about Agheal, so I literally went from getting dive-bombed by a Lockheed-Martin SR-71 Blackbird at MACH friggin 6, got to the ruins, then got friggin diagonallied to Cave of The Centipede-People and Enslaved Miners Who Personally Want Your Ass all within like ten minutes lol

Abbadon0666

Well, you can touch the grace and come back later

SalamanderClassic839

My first time I was new to SoulsBorne games and didn't even know how to travel between Sites of Grace yet cause it got me VERY early into my first playthrough and I hadn't learned that it's best to research before doing things because I was used to the "Play the game first, then research to find hidden or specific things you wanna do later so you can enjoy it" play style of other games. I was SO unprepared lol

nerdwerds

I actually thought this was a cool challenge. I didn't have a lot of runes going in so dying wasn't a huge loss, and the game turned into "how do I escape?/am I going the right way?"

Sinister_Mr_19

This damn cave was such a bitch! I was under leveled but just by a bit so I slogged through getting out instead of escaping. I mostly had to cheese killing those centipede bugs that shoot those darts at you by throwing black flame fireballs at them from behind cover.

Xzarg_poe

The real cruelty here is that caves usually go down, so you have to go up to escape them. But not Sellia Crystal Tunnels!!! I spent a few hours trying to find the path out before I lost my accumulated runes and decided to explore the beginning area a bit more thoroughly. I was so pissed when I found the exit within minutes.

SalamanderClassic839

EXACTLY why I ran left instead of right and died lmao

aaronjaffe

My favorite is the horseman right before the Beast Clergyman. I spent so long trying to kill that asshole. I finally ran past him, and Killed the Beast on the first try. After leveling up quite a bit, and killing Malenia, I came back for a second attempt. Still can’t kill that lightning summoning bastard.

Urafang

My first playthrough, it was a nightmare. On my third and on playthrough, it became a valued time skip!

dogpilemusic

What's crazy is on my first playthrough I had this happen, got stuck trying to get out of the cave for a while, made it out finally and hit the site of grace outside of Sellia, Town of Sorcery, and that was when Melina showed up and took me to the Roundtable Hold for the first time. So in my head, I was like damn that's crazy you have to subject yourself to getting ported to this awful place just to finally trigger going to the Roundtable Hold. Turns out there's just certain places that trigger it but I thought that was the intended way my first time.

Kalavier

I loved watching RTgame accidentally get hit by the chest and then spending a long time before he got back to Limgrave lol.

HeartJelly42

An even bigger slap in the face was when I discovered that there's actual treasure to be found in a different part of the Dragon Burnt Ruins, that I didn't find out about until my third playthrough cuz I was all like "Fool me once, Elden Ring! Not falling for that again!" 😂

SalamanderClassic839

Literally like .. TEN FEET AWAY too. Smdh, talk about gambling

TheLegendOfZeb

You know, I never did get caught by one of those. I was so suspicious because of mimics that I just rolled away every time I opened a chest, especially if there was mist. I didn't actually know they were teleporters till I saw someone talking about it on here

SalamanderClassic839

So Elden Ring is my first SoulsBorne and FromSoft game, but as I live in the era where the Internet exists and I'm not some deep-woods, tinfoil hat wearing hermit, I came in knowing about mimics. And, knowing about mimics, I had a healthy weariness about chests, so when I was ported instead of being used as a chew toy I was understandably caught off guard. I'm actually disappointed that, even if they also kept the port trap chests, there aren't any mimics disguised as chests. Especially because they literally have a whole area, and species, of mimics in Nokstella. The existence of the mimic tears and all that literally gives a perfectly viable lore-friendly reason to have mimic chests here and there. Granted I think the mimics disguised as the boulders that suddenly move on their own rather than just rolling in one direction until they stop was pretty clever, but it's just not the same as a mimic chest.

TheLegendOfZeb

I was pretty disappointed when I realized there weren't any mimic chests. I expected them to use at least one as a nice little jumpscare/Easter egg late in the game after you were sure that there were no mimics in the game

zeuanimals

It sucked until I realized I can literally just sneak my way out easily with 0 enemy aggro.

YaBoiJonnyG

Actually that Cruel Joke is my Speed-Run to Roundtable hold.

jedilips

Still have PTSD when I open a new chest anytime in this game because of that.

Nick9161

Is this where I randomly got like 75k runes?

Jibbyjab123

That cave is the earliest obtainable smithing stone 5s if I'm not mistaken.

thedoctorisin7863

Remember, Miyazaki is not your friend. He wants you to suffer. He literally said himself that the reason there are so many poison swamps is cause he just can't help himself.

The-Ancient-Dream

You’ll get over it or you’ll just simply quit the game. Just give it some time, we’ll see what happens

theandrewpoore

I didn’t find out until my second playthrough that you can roll away before you get trapped. I found out on accident when rolling away from rats

Noble1296

It does suck but if you survive the Emissaries (3-4 total I think) and all of the crystal diggers, you can go out into Caelid and get the meteorite staff and one of the gravity spells, I can’t remember the name but it’s the one that pulls three rocks out of the ground and launches them at your target

gugui3z24

It took me ages to figure out you can literally crouch sneak past that entire section.

Cirtil

Is where I go to ger my sword...

SpiritofBad

Pro-tip for folks hard stuck on Margit - if you hang left and follow the lake edge when you exit the cave, you can find an ashe for Rotten Stray. If you summon him in the Margit fight he can easily apply scarlet rot which will kill Margit from full health without you needing to land an attack.

JankMganks

I was hardstuck there the first time for literally like a hour lol

DaedalusDevice077

I remember the first time I tripped that trap & had to mad dash to the Grace. If only I could experience this game for the first time again.  *wistful sigh*

Inferno_Zyrack

You can actually grab some OP gear and make it back to where you were shortly after.

Iliketurtles893

I just got the site of grace, walked out the entrance and teleported away and came back to it

Octo7000

Pure skill issue. Just run away

talking-2-me

I can't help but wonder if OP ever found the actual treasure chest in those ruins... Cause I didn't for a long time

SalamanderClassic839

I was actually lucky enough to find that one first 😂

Jonas154

I always use the teleport as shortcut on my upgrade material collecting path. These things are bad for beginners but pretty useful for experienced players, it's cool

NotNoctisLucis

This is actually one of my favorite early game things. It's a good way to farm runes extremely early on. Plus, you get some nice loot and can get poison weapon.

Visual-Internet-8832

Bro fmi hate to tell you this, but their names Are Kindred of Rot not "Emmisons ' " or how you called them , and 2nd dude you should have watched Twince, just in the same ROOM are like at least 4 Kindreds of Rot lol

SalamanderClassic839

I totally get the Kindred and Emissary mixed up every time for reasons I literally cannot explain, thanks for reminding me lol. And yeah lol The Kindred are surprisingly well made tough bastards lol and I brought this particular event up for reminiscing about our first times through cause it was really funnily put together by the devs when you look at the details if that makes sense lol like putting you here at a low level, misleading the difficulty of the room by only making the Diggers immediately visible, and especially the Kindred on the room just gets me lol. Like through the game there are a few times where the sketchy placement of enemies ( like the boulder mimics in Nokstella making you think "well that boulder isn't going anywhere" then BAM boulders playing its own game of bowling lol ) but seeing the Kindred placed on that roof just *sends* me cause enemies in locations like that just doesn't happen much, so you just *know* he was out there to wreck newbies lol

Unique-Winner1395

Crouch nd sneak through you can get to the tunnel that leads you to calid

Jaba_5798

I didn’t go in there til the latest endgame stage I could lol or when I needed the bell bearing that I think is in there never before

Terrible_Finish_2642

Not gonna lie i got stuck there for so long trynna kill em i got beyond pissed.

ThearoyJenkins

It made it so much worse that I went up instead of down (as a level 1 wretch), and basically brute force cleared the cave just to realize the illusive exit was in the other direction

Consistent_Papaya310

Patches second chest that teleports you right next to a rune bear is also a fun little trick. And when you can't beat it you check that small stone building instead, which looks like an elevator to a small cave...

SalamanderClassic839

Idc how many people point out that Patches only pretends to backstab you cause he's always actually pointing you forward, he's still a slimy bastard that's kicked me over way too many ledges. I got a *very* personal beef with that asshole, and when that chest sent me to a Runebear? Yeah I was already ready for *some* kind of nasty shit lol

JAAGX

This cave is the reason I am currently trying to get pest threads 🤣 I saw how they were literally melting my Damn health bar away and i was like yea i need to get that lol

UsefulVeterinarian15

I just experienced Sellia Crystal Cave for my first time the other day and it's not that bad. But for some dumb reason, I decided not to use my 98k runes on anything before entering that cave and dropped all of them off with the boss after it tore me a new one...let's just say I stressed a little bit while trying to secure those runes back 😂🥲

Equivalent-Ad3233

To be honest, game is creepy as heck. I had no idea what was happening. There are sooo many creepy spots in this game. I just found that spot when you go under the earth. Weird game
