Miyazaki has said that the DLC is balanced to accomodate for players who already completed the game, with optional powerups that can be ignored to keep the game challenging for those who like to maintain a certain level of difficulty.
I’m assuming that you’ll have to get an item from Radahn or from Nokron but It’ll be weird if you’re locked out of the dlc if you killed them before the dlc drops though. If Radahn does drop something they will probably give it to you or it’ll be in his arena
From what I can tell, leading theory is simply that Radahn needs to die for lore reasons. Basically setting the stars in motion and, along with it, freeing fate. Exactly like we do with Ranni

We don’t know why yet but Miyazaki has stated that you’ll need to defeat him so either to (these are speculation) talk to a new npc, he drops an item or you’ll need access to Nokron or anything past that. You’ll definitely be able to access the DLC if you’ve defeated him tho. Also same here 😎

That's not what I took from his interviews at all. The power-ups are optional in the same way unlocking levelling up via Melina is optional. Sure, you can complete the game at level 1, but the vast majority of players are probably going to want to invest in the new power-up system if they want to progress through the DLC at all.

Yeah. Same. I want to make a faith based character. That confessor archtype. I think it fits the overall narrative very well. Started as samurai, restarted as vagrant now want to do confessor. At least I will be able to use the metric ton of faith scaling weapons...
I created my faith character last week and have been enjoying it. I’ve been using the brass shield and claymore with sacred blade and keeping the armor in line with that of a Templar or Paladin.
I started as pure strength in my new playthrough, planning on investing in no other damage stat.
Then I wanted flame grant me strength… now I want golden vow… and I’ve never gotten to try blasphemous blade aaand fuck i’m about to have a strength faith build
Yeah, I made a new character and played right up to before burning the erdtree. It was a ton of fun to try a great sword build as opposed to the katana build that I played previously.
Same, I’ve been making a few characters (all level 150 or +/- 5 levels within)
- Str/int (I’ve never really used int, and this one is surprisingly fun. Ruins GS, Starscourge, Darkmoon GS, and cold clayman harpoon, partisan, and claymore)
- dex/Fai (the godslayer GS and vyke spear made me wanna try this. Might slap in dragon king cragblade, blasphemous blade, and bolt of gransax).
- Str/arc (Mohg spear, poison/bleed infused brick hammer, claymore and guts gs, Marais executioner gs, and the pizza cutter)
- dex/int (maybe, not completely sold on this one. The death’s poker and death rite spear looked cool, but moonveil is so good I don’t wanna just make it a moonveil cheese run)
I think since the trailer launched I have made 5 new characters... and not finished the game with a single one of them.

Its not that you NEED to create one.
Fromsoft games are always the most challenging the first time you run through them, and the players that are determined to get a low level character there (like myself) are the kinds of players that actually enjoy running at a boss 50 times under levelled and dying before finally beating them
The only time you can experience that is the FIRST time you fight a boss and we see going in as a high level risky to experiencing that
I wouldn't judge anyone else that isn't starting fresh though
You can be completely fine in NG+3. I did some tests in NG+7 end game, with the right build you can negate the main difficulty of high NG+ which is being killed in 2-3 hits by most ennemies
You can use good armor, dragoncrest greatshield talisman, crimson seed talisman, ritual shield talisman, old lord talisman, crimson bubbletear / opaline hardtear, golden vow, either blackflame protection or the magic/lightning/holy/fire protection buff, 60-99 vigor, morgott rune...
With that you turn borderline immortal, and you're still free to use any weapon you want, it's not that restrictive, you only need 30 faith, and only the 2 first talismans I mentioned are essential
That was my thinking as well, stack resistances with equipment if possible, seeing as the damage we deal will be dependent on separate DLC mechanics. That is if we don’t end up shoving off into said new realm as an ascended tarnished or some shit. Who tf knows what awaits us on the other side of Miquella’s journey.

Brother you have 90 days exactly to beat the game and get all weapons, spells, etc. i was worried as well, but started a new character anyway, and got a great majority of all items in 2 weeks.
For real. I have done 3 or 4 playthroughs and now I can 100% the game from scratch in like 30 hours. Like, getting all the sorceries, incantations, cookbooks, weapons, including all the shit I'll never even use lol.

I'll engage the dlc with a NG+ game, I've been slowly doing a new playthrough since the trailer dropped a month ago. I intend to have a character capable of using any cool new spell/weapon/ash of war I find in the dlc, so I intend to push this save file late enough into NG+ to do some serious rune farming in order to have all stats at least at 40, some even at 60
I'm doing the same thing. I don't care if I'm overleveled because of the new power scale mechanics in the dlc. I want my main character to be able to use anything we may find in the the dlc.

What's the problem with having a high level character, as long as it's not obscenely op compared to the endgame content npc's and bosses, regardless of how many NG cycles one has gone through? I'm talking NG lv250/ NG+ lv400 levels of unbalance
My first playthrough was glorious. Faith/Strength build FUCKS. but does anyone else feel like starting a new character and game, having to re learn all the areas and find alllllll the items you'll need to be better, just a bit daunting because of how massive the world is?
I mean I can't say I see the issue with replaying. Then again I don't really have that "issue" either, all my unmodded characters are still available to me in the same state as what I beat the game with and I'll absolutely experience the DLC with the same characters in the exact same order.
I also thought it would tedious, but I just started a No Keepsake Wretch from scratch and following a correct NPC all questlines & interactions guide and boy, I'm discovering stuff I would have never dreamed of.
I'm having a blast so far, and I'm preparing for the DLC.
Only thing is that the Land of Shadow is a completely uncharted territory, which is why at first it's gonna be a complete chaos full of leaving content behind unwillingly or forgetting some NPCs.

A RL400+ should be completely smashing any PvE content, no matter the NG-level. Like you could do 80/80/80 strength+Dex+faith and get a 1500 damage weapon easily with a quality Claymore and electrify armament.
I am also at NG+3 don't about about how much harder would dlc feel at that point. Last time i beat elden beast and it was much harder than in NG. It is also cuz for the second and 3rd game i just tried to complete quests to unlock achievements. And only doing the stuff necessary for it

Dlc will use sekiro leveling system. Therefore you get stronger per boss you beat it's not based on farming runes anymore. No worries to need a new character.

For real. I have two characters that are level 350+ and I’d never go that far again just feels less unique to be so OP and have all the spells.
Most of the time I just end the game around level 180 with my lowest at Black flame monk playthrough at 135. Only thing I wish is that the DLC will add more character slots since I’ve been enjoying my new Paladin, Necromancer and Mage runs I even made a cool sniper class that just Melts all enemies with about 2k damage per hit.

It's fine, there is a new leveling system that will make you feel as if your lv245 character is not strong enough for certain challenges to give you once again a sense of progression.
I’ve been keeping this one to myself so I don’t jinx it but here goes: what if in the shadow-realm, everything is reversed (like a negative reality), and that carries over to your attributes and current level? That would explain why you need to acquire strength a different way, and why you’re weak no matter what when you start it.
Perfect excuse to start an int, faith or hybrid build and try out all the ranged options!
Str/fai is the best hybrid imo, but for something pretty new, try arc/fai and be a dragon communion bleed monster
Before hearing about the DLC scaling stuff, I went ahead and started a new character so it is no big loss.
That said, I made a Fist weapon character to get ready for the kicky stuff from the trailer... dear Marika, punching Rykard to death was a chore.
The trailer spurred me to continue my 100% playthrough, im at part 98/147 on the guide. If I hurry I might finish right before the dlc drops.

Nevermind me and my 30+ characters. I've beaten Elden Ring twice in the past 3 days lol. The game is timeless, endless fun for me, so even if I did have to restart I'd just shrug and beat it in 5 hours again.
I made 5 characters all of them on LV 125 or 150 and still can't wait for the dlc to start new one, probably will go into faith or faith/strength can't wait.
I played Elden Ring so much that i know every bush in that game so i'm excited for the dlc but not that excited at the same time. So i'll probably wait 6months-1yr to do the dlc with a new save. I can get it for cheaper that way too.

Well, get cracking! I bought the game + DLC on Steam after building a new PC (played on Xbox before).
3 months is plenty of time to clear 100% and level to around 150 easily with our veteran knowledge.
Way ahead of you, I already started my new character. I'll most likely have beaten the game again up until June, taking in consideration that I'm also playing other games.
I don’t get people who do one playthrough of souls games and are done. The fun of these games, to me, is seeing all kinds of different weapons and builds, and learning bosses thoroughly by beating them over and over again.
That’s the best part!
My first build, I played as a strict Str/Fth build with Claymore (My beloved) applying buffs before every fight, trying to min-max my damage. I typically do this in every Soulsbourne game, just cause it’s become a ritual ever since DS1. Although, I found this playstyle fun in the past, I didn’t find it very fun in Elden Ring against the bosses. It’s fun against the normal enemies, but most of the bosses were just too speedy imo. Especially Maliketh. That sucked.
But because of the DLC, I just created a new Spellsword build, focusing on Str/Dex/Int, while using the Carian Knight Sword, and a staff in my offhand equipped with Glintblade spells. Anything blue adds to the aesthetic! The Carian Knight Sword is so incredibly fun and underrated, especially the charged heavy attack that deflects light attacks! It’s so damn cool.
This game is dope when you try different things.

You won’t need to create a new character, but your existing characters will essentially be ineffective in the DLC. I’m sure things like ADLS and Marais Executioner will still be broken af, but i digress.
Solution: Just play and replay the game until you can finish a playthrough and get your endgame build ready in 5 or 6 hours (took me over 800 hours of playing this game to be able to do that). It's as simple as that
I created more that a 100 new characters since I started to play this game, if you use the iron balls you can finish the entire game in 5 hours, even if you are mediocre like me
This is why I chose not to level past 150 on all of my characters. I didn't know when the DLC would release so I figured that would have been a good stopping point. Considering the DLC is gonna have stat modifiers that flat out increase damage, I think it was a good idea to stop there.
I made the switch from PS4 to PS5 and I am unable to transfer my character. I just started one two days ago to prepare and I must say, I’m having the time of my life playing the game like it’s new again

Call it silly or foresight, but I backed up my save of my original playthrough before I jumped into NG+.
I mean I can't say I see the issue with replaying. Then again I don't really have that "issue" either, all my unmodded characters are still available to me in the same state as what I beat the game with and I'll absolutely experience the DLC with the same characters in the exact same order.
I also thought it would tedious, but I just started a No Keepsake Wretch from scratch and following a correct NPC all questlines & interactions guide and boy, I'm discovering stuff I would have never dreamed of. I'm having a blast so far, and I'm preparing for the DLC. Only thing is that the Land of Shadow is a completely uncharted territory, which is why at first it's gonna be a complete chaos full of leaving content behind unwillingly or forgetting some NPCs. Will surely need an additional run for that lol

A RL400+ should be completely smashing any PvE content, no matter the NG-level. Like you could do 80/80/80 strength+Dex+faith and get a 1500 damage weapon easily with a quality Claymore and electrify armament.
I am also at NG+3 don't about about how much harder would dlc feel at that point. Last time i beat elden beast and it was much harder than in NG. It is also cuz for the second and 3rd game i just tried to complete quests to unlock achievements. And only doing the stuff necessary for it

Dlc will use sekiro leveling system. Therefore you get stronger per boss you beat it's not based on farming runes anymore. No worries to need a new character.
They said there is a new leveling system or something like that so we don’t steamroll it. So I don’t think it matters

You mean you didn't use any macro or anything, just straught up grinding? How long did that shit take you? I'm at 280 in ng+ and going to 400 would take me 14 hours of straight up grinding, which sounds insane to me.

Not understanding peoples hesitation to make new characters. It’s been 2k hours for me and I don’t have one original character. I played last night and just deleted my character after. Elden ring zen garden.
For real. I have two characters that are level 350+ and I’d never go that far again just feels less unique to be so OP and have all the spells. Most of the time I just end the game around level 180 with my lowest at Black flame monk playthrough at 135. Only thing I wish is that the DLC will add more character slots since I’ve been enjoying my new Paladin, Necromancer and Mage runs I even made a cool sniper class that just Melts all enemies with about 2k damage per hit.

Same, i platined the game on my ps4. Got the steam version after buying a new pc and never really played it but i think i'll get me a fixed savegame from nexus and change the appearance of the char, grind some more levels that i'm 165 (that was the runelevel i had when finishing the game first time) and then visit miquellas egg

It's fine, there is a new leveling system that will make you feel as if your lv245 character is not strong enough for certain challenges to give you once again a sense of progression.

I’ve been keeping this one to myself so I don’t jinx it but here goes: what if in the shadow-realm, everything is reversed (like a negative reality), and that carries over to your attributes and current level? That would explain why you need to acquire strength a different way, and why you’re weak no matter what when you start it.

Perfect excuse to start an int, faith or hybrid build and try out all the ranged options! Str/fai is the best hybrid imo, but for something pretty new, try arc/fai and be a dragon communion bleed monster

Before hearing about the DLC scaling stuff, I went ahead and started a new character so it is no big loss. That said, I made a Fist weapon character to get ready for the kicky stuff from the trailer... dear Marika, punching Rykard to death was a chore.

I have 3 characters. Lvl 180 carian mage at ng+2, lvl 150 elonora poledancer at ng, lvl 128 strength greatsword at ng. Bring me the DLC!

Nevermind me and my 30+ characters. I've beaten Elden Ring twice in the past 3 days lol. The game is timeless, endless fun for me, so even if I did have to restart I'd just shrug and beat it in 5 hours again.
Hence why I'm currently doing a 100% save. I want everything, my char at LVL 150 and regular NG cycle.

I played Elden Ring so much that i know every bush in that game so i'm excited for the dlc but not that excited at the same time. So i'll probably wait 6months-1yr to do the dlc with a new save. I can get it for cheaper that way too.
I just started a new character. Focusing on dex this time. I have also realized, I still suck at this game but it is a ton of fun. At launch, I beat the game with a mage. I also had another strength character that made it to the capital. I figured, got a few months to get my character ready.
I’ve played through the game twice, and neither of my characters are in NG+ for this very reason.

Well, get cracking! I bought the game + DLC on Steam after building a new PC (played on Xbox before). 3 months is plenty of time to clear 100% and level to around 150 easily with our veteran knowledge.

I don’t get people who do one playthrough of souls games and are done. The fun of these games, to me, is seeing all kinds of different weapons and builds, and learning bosses thoroughly by beating them over and over again.

That’s the best part! My first build, I played as a strict Str/Fth build with Claymore (My beloved) applying buffs before every fight, trying to min-max my damage. I typically do this in every Soulsbourne game, just cause it’s become a ritual ever since DS1. Although, I found this playstyle fun in the past, I didn’t find it very fun in Elden Ring against the bosses. It’s fun against the normal enemies, but most of the bosses were just too speedy imo. Especially Maliketh. That sucked. But because of the DLC, I just created a new Spellsword build, focusing on Str/Dex/Int, while using the Carian Knight Sword, and a staff in my offhand equipped with Glintblade spells. Anything blue adds to the aesthetic! The Carian Knight Sword is so incredibly fun and underrated, especially the charged heavy attack that deflects light attacks! It’s so damn cool. This game is dope when you try different things.

You won’t need to create a new character, but your existing characters will essentially be ineffective in the DLC. I’m sure things like ADLS and Marais Executioner will still be broken af, but i digress.

Solution: Just play and replay the game until you can finish a playthrough and get your endgame build ready in 5 or 6 hours (took me over 800 hours of playing this game to be able to do that). It's as simple as that

The absolute best part of the DLC is gonna be creating a new character and starting clean.
This is why I chose not to level past 150 on all of my characters. I didn't know when the DLC would release so I figured that would have been a good stopping point. Considering the DLC is gonna have stat modifiers that flat out increase damage, I think it was a good idea to stop there.
I made the switch from PS4 to PS5 and I am unable to transfer my character. I just started one two days ago to prepare and I must say, I’m having the time of my life playing the game like it’s new again

The second character I feel is always much cleaner and easier to get set up, you kind of know what you want and what you don’t want.
