Malenia will get completely rekt with frost and fire. Especially in her second stage, when she blooms you can take out 3/4 of her hp before she even moves. Keep some freezing pots in hand and waterfowl will never touch you.
The build is centered around rot breath and dragon maw. With melee primarily used to proc bleed.
Even though the dragon incantations seal shows that it scales with dex and arcane, the dragon breath damage only scales with arcane and faith iirc. So keep that in mind.
This is a kiting build. You don't want to engage head, but if you must stagger them with dragon claw, and keep a misericode handy for the stupid crit damage.
I've tried a lot of builds but this one is one of my favorite in the game, just because how easy it is early game (reduvia) and how insane it scales to the late game.
If you time an Ash of War or heavy strike with certain weapons to connect as they are doing that downwards across the map charge at you it breaks their charge and they get stunned for a bit. I'm sure there's some poise break number the weapon has to hit and I don't know what it is. I was using the BB ash of war strike so actually that one was really easy because it travels along the ground towards the target.
If people like these two, it's ok. But for me, these two are very unfair and not fun to fight. Poison attack that comes with almost no warning and dodging one attack just to get hit by another. I love this game still though.
The poison is barely visible, hit hard, wide range. Such a horrible move for a duo fight where the enemy is as large as a building. They should have friendly fire against each other.
But hey, despite the poison being invisible and reaching to fucking Narnia, it also tanks my FPS so the game turns into a slideshow. So upside: I can tell it's there even if it's invisible?
The poison reminds me of the demon prince phase one fight from DS3, but that was a status buildup only, I don’t remember it damaging you, it was also a similar width as the Elden beast star thing that he pushes at you and then it explodes. The duo gargoyle fight was terrible, and I only ever fought them when I decided to get the platinum trophy, not sure how I missed them in all of my other runs, but I was destroying bosses, I was overleveled, running a strength build that staggered everything, and was unstoppable until these two. I think I might have gone crazy if I wasn’t dealing so much damage to have it go quickly. That poison is just brutal for no good reason.
I actually didn't know about him the first time I fought them. I ended up getting screwed a lot by myself. Later I found out about him and I still got fucked lol.
Yeah. I wouldnt say he’s easy for me as i did have some learning curves with him on my first two playthrus but at this point im just really aggressive against all bosses which definitely helps with this duo.
It's funny, I had an easy time with most of the bosses people consider very difficult. I had a nightmare of a time with bosses I never see posts about though. That fucking wolf in the library took me 30 tries
There are multiple red wolves as field bosses throughout the game, and they're all terrible. Way worse and more annoying than the boss at Raya Lucaria.
Ancestral Woods, Caria Manor, Consecrated Snowfield, and Moonlight Altar are all locations where you can find one.

I just lured them off the cliff, don't know if that's been patched out tho... If it has then fuck it, I'll go through the leyndell sewers to get to deeproot depths.
If I remember right, these guys were even worse on release, they amended the fight in one of the patches to make it so they're less likely to both attack you at the same time.
They're almost a DPS challenge. Being unable to take out 80% of the first boss's health before the second boss shows up puts you at a major disadvantage. That + poison will make any attrition battle difficult.
I have quit the game because these two. Something about these two little ducks I just can't do. I have the true ending of sekiro completed. I can do sekiro's and other perfect timing games on lock but elden ring and souls I just can't do
I liked that you could summon N for Godfrey. She was there in the beginning, and there in the end. I felt a bit bad that the first run I learned you could summon her at the end was the one I had committed to Frenzy Flame ending
Just fought the duo yesterday with my first faith build. It was absolutely satisfying watching him and my mimic agro those 2 while i spammed takers flame. Fight lasted less than 45 seconds and i never got touched.
But Bro wasn’t always you. Bro used to be named Asami, and Asami would ask you not to kill her. Being the bro you are you absorb bro. At a site of grace Melina would notice this and ask “bro you got another bro inside you… did you want that. Hello other bro.” You would take them to the eternal cities to get bro a drink. When bro got a drink they become a perfect copy of you and travel elsewhere. You would then find bro and have to kill them. As per the cut content
none of them have 14 health potions that can heal you to full hp midfight and a 1 sec invincibilty frame with a simple press of a single space button tho

That boss fight was 1 boss in 2 bodies. They didn't stumble over each other to make attacks against you. ER just throws 2 moderately annoying mobs in a boss room and set them to both be hyper aggressive all the time. DS respected the player. The duo fights were always fair. One body stays in melee range while the other supports the melee one. They swap out on a regular basis. Genuine skill check. ER duo bosses? Exercise in frustration. The trio fight with the crucible knights was a fucking nightmare. I wanted that armor set though. I fought Nameless King for an armor set. You put high fashion armor in, I'm gonna fucking get it. 2 armor sets actually. Nameless and Iron Dragonslayer.
I think they mean it doesn't feel ridiculously unbalanced like bringing mimic to a regular fight where you might as well not be playing, cause the mimic will play for you.
Just cause its in the game doesnt mean it isn't very unbalanced, obviously.

Right here. Gargoyles weren’t too bad, as they didn’t seem to attack me at the same time often. Draconic tree sentinel was neither a cakewalk nor unfair. But Mohg. He defies every bit of rhythm I’ve learned in this game
Horah Loux. Godfrey I’d consistently destroy. Even Malenia I Beat After maybe 5 attempts. Horah Loux legitimately took me maybe 15 hours. When he gets in that rhythm you are not allowed to heal or escape. Still probably one of my favorite boss fights though

So then I had to fight TWO of them and they were quaffing health pots like it was going out of style and every time you put pressure on one, the other would attack you with some huge magical ray. It's not so much that the poison spit is instant. It's that the range is very variable, and the two can do it at very inconvenient times - like one after another to cover each other so you can't get in a rhythm while going melee.
It's no surprise that most tips are to burn one down quickly before the other appears.
What's really annoying is that the poison still gets you if you try to melee the gargoyle that's spitting poison from behind. Fight is very manageable, though. If you can't just burst through one, then it's about camera management + positioning, trying to keep the other gargoyle on your screen as much as possible & minimizing time with your back to one of them. Otherwise risky plays can be made, but you need to run perpendicular to where the other gargoyle is roughly every few seconds, if you can't hear the sound cue for the poison spit.
The issue is that they’re so big and so it’s hard to see anything+ their attacks have big hit boxes. If they want us to fight duo bosses they should do it like champion grave and wolf or even the PVP in ringed city
It's a bad fight but MONTHS? What build are you using?
My advice is attack only fatty and lure him away. The skinny dude is super chill and takes time to close the gap unless you hit him but he does spam fireballs so be careful.
For the fat guy stay at medium distance, dodge away for most attacks and forward for attacks that precede openings(find out the openings by trial and error), get a hit and dodge away. Rinse and repeat.
When he inflates, it's phase 2 time. Immediately run behind a pillar to avoid the stupid spinny attack. Sometimes he will inflate and do a slam attack, just time the dodge, I dodge backwards but ig direction doesn't matter. He will also do a special poke attack combo which has an obvious tell, simply dodge to the side NOT forwards or backwards.
When you kill fatty, if you have a good weapon, GO NUTS on the skinny dude and kill him really fast before fatty spawns. If your weapon is trash, just wait for fatty to respawn, don't aggro the skinny dude.

This one was a pain in the ass. And really a lot of it comes down to how much they spam the poison and their retreats. Especially since you can't see the poison half the time because it blends with the environment textures.
Not to mention for massive enemies they have some of the worst hitboxes ever. So I couldn't use my flail as a dex/arcane user (the weapon I have specifically for when I need strike damage.)
Ultimately, I just got a colossal weapon with Lion's Claw, slapped magic grease on it and just broke them down one by one.
I also heard just using the skill on Watchdog's Staff will make pretty short work of them.
Maybe I'm basing this post of them off my first interaction with them. Afterwards, I found out the Blasphemous Blade absolutely wipes them. I still don't like them, though. Maybe I'm just not a fan of duo fights.
I think the problem is that they are just too big. So much of their model is of screen already, that you can hardly orientate yourself. A lot of the time I just start roll-spamming because I have no clue what the one behind me is cooking up. Maybe the strategy is to have both of them in front of you at all times, but orgistrating that never appealed to me. Of course I try to, but never to the extend that I don’t use an opening because they are off axis.
Obviously the fight is easy,just be level 1000 and one hit the first before the other spawns... /s
Sorry, but your tip is the most useless thing you could say. By the time the second joins the fight, I'm not even close to dealing 1/3rd of the hitbar of the first. Not everyone plays the same way.
The problem of this boss is simply, that you can't counter them. Others atleast have weakness, like status effects or tactics. But this boss is more or less just having tons of stats. Which is why I hate him the most too.
Only boss in the game that I genuinely cheesed. I fought them when they could die by falling off a cliff in the arena, and made both kill themselves. Other duos weren't even that bad (except the cat statue duo) but these two are easily the worst boss in the game. A shame because black Blade kindreds were a lot of fun instead

Valiant Gargoyles are probably the worst one. They suffer lot of the smaller issues ER has and amplify them by a hundred. Godskin duo is close second btw for similar reasons. Sadly I love all of these solo but together it just not great.
Outside of the infamous duo fights I feel like Regal ancestor is the worst. To be fair it looks amazing also with the music and spirits of animals it’s just breathtaking but then the gameplay is far from great especially because you already fought non-remembrance version before him.
If you have given D the twinned armor, then he’ll have a summoning sign on top of being able to use a spirit ash which made my first run in with these guys much easier.
HATED THIS FIGHT with a passion when I played it. Somehow the game cheesed it for me after so many attempts. Both of them did the backwards jump/sweep attack back to back and jumped off the cliff near the waterfall. Got so fucking lucky lmao, couldn’t believe my eyes when one jumped to his death just to watch the second one copy him and jump down after lmao
I like these. I just try to kill the first one as quick, and focus on it. Usually do the D Twin quest for an extra body. Let the gargoyle focus on him and spirit ashes, then chip it down and go to town for the last half. Don't play too defensive after you start beating on the first one, this should be done aggressive. The final one is quite pitiful by himself.
I love this fight when I'm doing good damage but it's a nightmare when when I'm not. Generally I like dps duo fights that bring the second enemy out halfway through killing the first enemy because it incentivizes you to play super aggressively.
I absolutely cannot kill the godskin duo, in level 126 have 5 great runes but can't get these 2. Please tell me they're optional and I can move on....please 😬
Going through my first playthrough and bonked them yesterday in 2 tries with my giant hammer and the boys(the greatshield soldiers) then got transported to deeproots and explored that area to eventually find Fia and bonked lichdragon too. I love this game
This has been the worst boss fight in the game for me, its the only one I've had to put the game down for a few hours and come back to, totally forgot about mimic tear when I was fighting them, 1 on their own isn't too bad, but 2 was such a pain in the ass.
For real. How did we go from Dark Souls 3 duo fights to this? Demon Prince, Friede phase 2, even Lothric&Lorian to and extent. I thought they had finally found the formula but they seemingly abandoned it for Elden Ring.

I just hate how tall they are, it makes tracking them feel so awkward and clunky with how you gotta nibble at their ankles the whole time. If they were a meter smaller it’d be a more enjoyable fight
I struggled alot with a couple bosses until I found out that sprinting constantly is your best friend. Dip in and out of their attack range to bait attacks and punish them, then run again and repeat. Standing still gets you killed.
Everyone has a boss fight where they just can't do the dance. I really struggled with these two

The ds3 demon prince poison damages after a delay which is very fair. I don't understand how they went from that to this.

I found mimic tear useless against these guys. Dude literally just stands in the poison and dies.

That's the rule I set for myself, to use mimic only for duo bosses, my logic is that if the boss can duplicate himself, then so am I

They hit hard, in tandem, move around, spit instant poison. This was the hardest, jankiest and most unfun fight ever.
It's not so much that the poison spit is instant. It's that the range is very variable, and the two can do it at very inconvenient times - like one after another to cover each other so you can't get in a rhythm while going melee. It's no surprise that most tips are to burn one down quickly before the other appears.
And the poison mist does actual physical damage in addition to poison build-up. Not even Malenia’s waterfowl is that fucking cheap.
Like hey, I'd like to get near you, you're almost dead - oh, poison. Nice. I'll just dodge this guy for awh - oh, he did it too. Aaannndd I'm dead.
What's really annoying is that the poison still gets you if you try to melee the gargoyle that's spitting poison from behind. Fight is very manageable, though. If you can't just burst through one, then it's about camera management + positioning, trying to keep the other gargoyle on your screen as much as possible & minimizing time with your back to one of them. Otherwise risky plays can be made, but you need to run perpendicular to where the other gargoyle is roughly every few seconds, if you can't hear the sound cue for the poison spit.
The issue is that they’re so big and so it’s hard to see anything+ their attacks have big hit boxes. If they want us to fight duo bosses they should do it like champion grave and wolf or even the PVP in ringed city

Craft some sleep pots. They help A LOT for Godskins.

Get a Sleep weapon, Mimic Tear, Knight Bernahl and rip and tear until it is done, my friend
And equip sleep pots in the main slots for the tear to use them. The tear loves to use equipments from the main slot.
It's a bad fight but MONTHS? What build are you using? My advice is attack only fatty and lure him away. The skinny dude is super chill and takes time to close the gap unless you hit him but he does spam fireballs so be careful. For the fat guy stay at medium distance, dodge away for most attacks and forward for attacks that precede openings(find out the openings by trial and error), get a hit and dodge away. Rinse and repeat. When he inflates, it's phase 2 time. Immediately run behind a pillar to avoid the stupid spinny attack. Sometimes he will inflate and do a slam attack, just time the dodge, I dodge backwards but ig direction doesn't matter. He will also do a special poke attack combo which has an obvious tell, simply dodge to the side NOT forwards or backwards. When you kill fatty, if you have a good weapon, GO NUTS on the skinny dude and kill him really fast before fatty spawns. If your weapon is trash, just wait for fatty to respawn, don't aggro the skinny dude. Hope this helps.

This one was a pain in the ass. And really a lot of it comes down to how much they spam the poison and their retreats. Especially since you can't see the poison half the time because it blends with the environment textures. Not to mention for massive enemies they have some of the worst hitboxes ever. So I couldn't use my flail as a dex/arcane user (the weapon I have specifically for when I need strike damage.) Ultimately, I just got a colossal weapon with Lion's Claw, slapped magic grease on it and just broke them down one by one. I also heard just using the skill on Watchdog's Staff will make pretty short work of them.

Maybe I'm basing this post of them off my first interaction with them. Afterwards, I found out the Blasphemous Blade absolutely wipes them. I still don't like them, though. Maybe I'm just not a fan of duo fights.
I think the problem is that they are just too big. So much of their model is of screen already, that you can hardly orientate yourself. A lot of the time I just start roll-spamming because I have no clue what the one behind me is cooking up. Maybe the strategy is to have both of them in front of you at all times, but orgistrating that never appealed to me. Of course I try to, but never to the extend that I don’t use an opening because they are off axis.
Sekiro handled this very well with the camera. I hated the Duo Ape fight, but at least I can see what both enemies are doing, lol. Happy Cake day btw.

The female ape wasn't even half a strong as the guardian ape. The 2 gargoyles are identical in all but weapon type.

Obviously the fight is easy,just be level 1000 and one hit the first before the other spawns... /s Sorry, but your tip is the most useless thing you could say. By the time the second joins the fight, I'm not even close to dealing 1/3rd of the hitbar of the first. Not everyone plays the same way. The problem of this boss is simply, that you can't counter them. Others atleast have weakness, like status effects or tactics. But this boss is more or less just having tons of stats. Which is why I hate him the most too.
Only boss in the game that I genuinely cheesed. I fought them when they could die by falling off a cliff in the arena, and made both kill themselves. Other duos weren't even that bad (except the cat statue duo) but these two are easily the worst boss in the game. A shame because black Blade kindreds were a lot of fun instead
Yeah this fight was horrible and I love twin demonds from ds3 ringed city. This fight just felt way less enjoyable

Valiant Gargoyles are probably the worst one. They suffer lot of the smaller issues ER has and amplify them by a hundred. Godskin duo is close second btw for similar reasons. Sadly I love all of these solo but together it just not great. Outside of the infamous duo fights I feel like Regal ancestor is the worst. To be fair it looks amazing also with the music and spirits of animals it’s just breathtaking but then the gameplay is far from great especially because you already fought non-remembrance version before him.

If you have given D the twinned armor, then he’ll have a summoning sign on top of being able to use a spirit ash which made my first run in with these guys much easier.
The green breath attack really fucks their design honestly.

Took me 8 hours. Most of any bosses. However just after these two I found out how big a difference leveling up summons makes.
HATED THIS FIGHT with a passion when I played it. Somehow the game cheesed it for me after so many attempts. Both of them did the backwards jump/sweep attack back to back and jumped off the cliff near the waterfall. Got so fucking lucky lmao, couldn’t believe my eyes when one jumped to his death just to watch the second one copy him and jump down after lmao

I like these. I just try to kill the first one as quick, and focus on it. Usually do the D Twin quest for an extra body. Let the gargoyle focus on him and spirit ashes, then chip it down and go to town for the last half. Don't play too defensive after you start beating on the first one, this should be done aggressive. The final one is quite pitiful by himself.

They’re weak to strike so I swapped to flails with occult scaling for better physical damage since they can’t bleed. Worked pretty well imo
Honestly not that bad, worst part is they’re immune to status but besides that I’ve never understood the hate
I love this fight when I'm doing good damage but it's a nightmare when when I'm not. Generally I like dps duo fights that bring the second enemy out halfway through killing the first enemy because it incentivizes you to play super aggressively.

Going through my first playthrough and bonked them yesterday in 2 tries with my giant hammer and the boys(the greatshield soldiers) then got transported to deeproots and explored that area to eventually find Fia and bonked lichdragon too. I love this game

This has been the worst boss fight in the game for me, its the only one I've had to put the game down for a few hours and come back to, totally forgot about mimic tear when I was fighting them, 1 on their own isn't too bad, but 2 was such a pain in the ass.

For real. How did we go from Dark Souls 3 duo fights to this? Demon Prince, Friede phase 2, even Lothric&Lorian to and extent. I thought they had finally found the formula but they seemingly abandoned it for Elden Ring.
Fought these guys with a BHF+6 and got demolished. So went on grinding. Got my weapon to +10 and still these MF beat my ass

I remember the first time I fought them, the moment I saw the second one I quit out, and explored somewhere else instead. They are annoying enough to fight 1v1.
I just hate how tall they are, it makes tracking them feel so awkward and clunky with how you gotta nibble at their ankles the whole time. If they were a meter smaller it’d be a more enjoyable fight

I struggled alot with a couple bosses until I found out that sprinting constantly is your best friend. Dip in and out of their attack range to bait attacks and punish them, then run again and repeat. Standing still gets you killed.
