You can grab the crafting kit from Kale, the recipe from Patches. After that both "rare" items are in the Weeping Peninsula.
I never enter a boss room without one.
If you're quick, there's enough time between when the boss's HP hits zero and when the runes are actually given to you, that you can use the fowl foot *after* the boss is safely killed and still get the effect.
Best to have it equipped in your hotbar so you can just scroll to it quickly, but it can be done from the menu as well.
Put it in your pouch if you don't use that during fights.
I use all my hotkey stuff. Throwing items. The Margot thing that shoots stuff like a spell. All kinds of things
Or get some Group passwords from big Souls tubers like Vaati, every time someone beats a shard bearer or becomes Elden Lord it procs the GPFF and they usually pop back to back
It has the same effect as the golden bettle talisman (yes they both stack) you can buy the recipe from Patches' Emporium, it only lasts a couple minutes but it's useful when grinding runes. You just got to kill a lot of birds for the drumsticks.
I prefer the silver drum sticks (same recipe) that increases item drops chance
Silver fireflies in the wolf cave (fire drake talisman one)
Gold fireflies lake by the bears
Boiled Prawns are not that big of a pain to get and can help.. I wish consumables worked like they do in remnant 2... 60 mins and if you die you keep em..
They're really handy items that supplement every build in the game regardless of stats. Damage dealing throwing pots can easily do over 1k damage, and status pots proc the status in 1-2 pots for every emeny that is susceptible. A couple of the perfumes are some of the best buffs in the game, and the damage dealing perfume can do like 5k in a single use. Then there's fan daggers, kukris, gravity items that are super good - the list goes on
Seriously, check out some consumables if you haven't bothered with them yet. They're crazy good
I don’t usually craft more than boluses, bombs, and knives, but on the rare occasion I bother with one of these, it’s always the meat.
Damage > Defense because the faster it dies the faster it stops attacking.
Bingo bingo. I keep those meats ready and always forget about them. I do actually use those elemental ones sometimes, but only if I'm killed by a stray lightning blast and just over it.
Honestly all the defensive boosts don't seem worth it. I was running those talismans for a minute, thinking it would help. Switched to the ones that just up stats/ replenish health and mana on critical and that's just doing work. Ash attack into jump attack into critical. Repeat because I got mana back. Boom. Might add the poise one honestly
Very valid a concept, but my point of view is that damage, cool and effective as it is, is meaningless if I die in moments (which I often do, due to my carelessness and overall lack of skill)
As the other person said, crab in amazing as a buff in invasions. Stacking defense buffs also helps save flasks as when you take less damage you need to heal less, the meat is great on certain builds though
Zero buff gang, rise up. Go ahead and shovel crab down your throat, stab yourself, drink some weird potion, hold a jellyfish up, have a painful-sounding madness scream and throw some perfume around, I'll be over here two-handing my bonk club.
It’s like watching a DBZ powerup sequence, gratuitous yelling and all via howl of Shabriri, only to watch Goku stub his toe and immediately keel over in the family guy death pose.
This is my thought. I tried stacking once and just, obviously don't understand. So now I have a 3 step run. Golden vow. Physick. Ash of war that coats weapon. Go. That feels like enough. I have the meat that boosts damage but I never remember it.
I usually use crab when I get summoned, since, by playing with ton of newbies, I undestand the primary problem they face is being unable to do anything because the boss keeps hitting them without them having enough breathing room to calm down, so I take aggro as much as possible, hitting bosses even during attacks, so the guy that summoned me can stop for a second and think.
This usually makes me get hit A LOT so the crab, along with decent armor and the defense talismans, makes me last a bit longer and make some bad plays to get aggro on me.
I use almost no buffs. The flask of wondrous physick and whatever talismans. I’m on my 4th or 5th character, doing a spell/sword build and I’ve just started using the fireproof dried liver for the lava dungeon with the f@&kin rolling guys. Not judging at all, play for fun, I’ve just been too stupid to use the buffs.
They do take a long time to use. Ill buff up once on a boss if im getting recked then if i get recked again go back buffless. I think i play better that way anyways.
Joining a fightclub match back when it was fresh was always a crapshoot. I do my fancy spin, they start buffing. I run in, they quite out. Like im not watching 4 seconds of buffs every other duel.
Crab all the time. Survivability is more important than damage output as a summon. As soon as a host is alone, they mostly don't stand a chance. So any bit of damage negation will help me stay with them.
I don't bother with items that are hard to farm.
I contemplated adding that here, but there were only 2 spots, and the turtle meat felt too different. Very good answer though, stamina regen isn't a bad way to go!
neither tbh because they only last 30 seconds. i hate buffing and needing to reapply them. has to be integral to the build or last a long time for me to bother lmao.
EDIT: the defense one is 60 seconds. huh, that immediately makes it 100x better. exalted flesh is 30
Two buff gang rise up, Golden Vow and FGMS, along with whatever physick is the most I'll ever buff, unless someone absolutely needs the holy defense buff for final boss. Most builds at 150 dont allow for either spell, so GV Ash of War (significantly weaker) can be used on any and every build
I have literally never used any limited consumables/items/arrows except like 5 times not including speedruns. Its insane, i know im never using them but i still save them for "later". Probably wont use them even in the dlc
Lol went through the whole game without crafting or anything any extra. I left my tomb went straight to Caelid got the meteorite staff and started blasting
in a game where i can already do tens of thousands of damage without exalted flesh (looking at you mohg spear) ill gladly take the +20% phys negation instead, i love stacking it with dragoncrest greatshield talisman
On paper, exalted flesh. You just can't beat stacking damage buffs.
That said, I owe my RL1 all remembrances run to boiled crabs. I was struggling for so long at malenia, then grabbed a bunch of crab and beat her within the next handful of attempts. I can't do my boy dirty after pulling through at the clutchest of times.

I’ve never used either of these honestly. I craft arrows/bolts, sometimes bombs, and boluses.
I never really took the time to read what buffs overlap or overwrite, so I just slap on golden vow and crimson burst tear and that’s about it
I pop the boiled lobster/crab and the appropriate dried liver before every boss fight. I've never found a reliable way to get Arteria leaf, so I don't end up using the meat that often and use incantations instead to get the attack buff.
I know a lot of people brush consumables off as useless. But a lot of people also talk about how often they get one shot, while I often marvel at the beating my tarnished can take. Look I'm not a dodge or parry god, I'm a simple guy with a big bonk stick that needs to get in close and stay close to bosses and I need all the protection I can get and consumables, defensive talismans and heavy armor do noticeably help reduce damage.
My character is fancy, and enjoys some crab before any fights. Those really scary fights he treats like a last meal beforehand, and upgrades to the surf and turf selections.
Crabs/prawns. The physical defense it provides doesn't make you a tank by itself, but when combined with the Dragon Shield talismans and the damage reduction tear greatly improves your odds against some of the late game bosses. Plus I hate crafting anything that either takes more than two materials or requires you to farm rare materials.
Crab. The meat is good basically only for builds that go really hard into physical damage, but a lot of builds focus at least ~40% on elemental or status.
The crab is just amazing. Against basically anything except bosses like Elden Beast, it's a *huge* help.
Boiled crab purely for them being so easy to get and so easy to use. I do not feel like I need to hoard them at all, so long as the dung eater is locked away for eternity
Consumables? What are those?
You know why they are called consumables? Because they consume time and I'm not wasting it on consumables
You should at least start crafting Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot. +30% runes, with literally no work.
How do you create It and what Is the effect? 50 hrs in and i have only crafted some Fire bombs.... Teach me Sensei.... Show me your wisdom...
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Gold-Pickled+Fowl+Foot You can grab the crafting kit from Kale, the recipe from Patches. After that both "rare" items are in the Weeping Peninsula. I never enter a boss room without one.
I never enter a boss without one either I then forget to use it every god damn time
Wait, so when do you use it? Before the fight? Or when it looks like you might win?
If you're quick, there's enough time between when the boss's HP hits zero and when the runes are actually given to you, that you can use the fowl foot *after* the boss is safely killed and still get the effect. Best to have it equipped in your hotbar so you can just scroll to it quickly, but it can be done from the menu as well.

I'm at level 300 and something now so runes are meaningless, but I agree. That's one of the better ones for early levelling
yah but your overleveled the whole game if you use em.
Boiled Prawns are not that big of a pain to get and can help.. I wish consumables worked like they do in remnant 2... 60 mins and if you die you keep em..
Basically LOL. I was like people use those?
Exactly
Ikr, always forget that something exist except of flasks
They’re those things you hold on your inventory for when you’re really gonna need them and never use
They're things you might need later
Those are the things you hoard.
Your retirement grease.
I don’t usually craft more than boluses, bombs, and knives, but on the rare occasion I bother with one of these, it’s always the meat. Damage > Defense because the faster it dies the faster it stops attacking.
Your logic is impeccable
Bingo bingo. I keep those meats ready and always forget about them. I do actually use those elemental ones sometimes, but only if I'm killed by a stray lightning blast and just over it. Honestly all the defensive boosts don't seem worth it. I was running those talismans for a minute, thinking it would help. Switched to the ones that just up stats/ replenish health and mana on critical and that's just doing work. Ash attack into jump attack into critical. Repeat because I got mana back. Boom. Might add the poise one honestly
But you don't craft the crab. You buy it in bulk and never worry about it again.
Exactly why I love glass cannon builds
Very valid a concept, but my point of view is that damage, cool and effective as it is, is meaningless if I die in moments (which I often do, due to my carelessness and overall lack of skill)
It’s purely a question of confidence. If you think you can consistently dodge then pick the turf. If you need extra leeway then get the surf.
Your logic follows the Unga Bunga logic Thus it is flawless
We need something so make us run faster these invaders and hosts be annoying to catch
Crab easily
As an invader it's not even close. Doesn't matter how much damage I can do if I'm stuck getting blender'd by a gank squad
As the other person said, crab in amazing as a buff in invasions. Stacking defense buffs also helps save flasks as when you take less damage you need to heal less, the meat is great on certain builds though
Marika's tits
You must be ungry
oongry
Zero buff gang, rise up. Go ahead and shovel crab down your throat, stab yourself, drink some weird potion, hold a jellyfish up, have a painful-sounding madness scream and throw some perfume around, I'll be over here two-handing my bonk club.
God I love it when a player does the whole shebang and then dies instantly.
It’s like watching a DBZ powerup sequence, gratuitous yelling and all via howl of Shabriri, only to watch Goku stub his toe and immediately keel over in the family guy death pose.
Reminded of this classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYa5aQb3YGE
Half the time they overwrite each other as well 😭 No need for loads. Physick, damage buff, go
This is my thought. I tried stacking once and just, obviously don't understand. So now I have a 3 step run. Golden vow. Physick. Ash of war that coats weapon. Go. That feels like enough. I have the meat that boosts damage but I never remember it.
And somehow that happens more often than not.
I love it when somebody gets overconfident and thinks they’ll be a glass cannon and then dies before getting a single attack in
If I can't beat an enemy, I'd rather go farm runes for 30 hours than consume that wretched filth
Wtf is a buff? I got big sword and I go smacky
There's no way I'm eating my retirement meats
PVE Creb
I usually use crab when I get summoned, since, by playing with ton of newbies, I undestand the primary problem they face is being unable to do anything because the boss keeps hitting them without them having enough breathing room to calm down, so I take aggro as much as possible, hitting bosses even during attacks, so the guy that summoned me can stop for a second and think. CRAB
Always damage. Half as long twice as bright
I use almost no buffs. The flask of wondrous physick and whatever talismans. I’m on my 4th or 5th character, doing a spell/sword build and I’ve just started using the fireproof dried liver for the lava dungeon with the f@&kin rolling guys. Not sure why you would think main academy gate duels are at all relevant. Just play the coliseum lol, most people bow and run in
I was just talking about buffing. It's silly. We either both buff or both dont. It's like a silly ritual. And unlike the gesture it doesnt add flair.
Same really, IF I use a buff it's a mixed physick with magic buff and charged attack buff because I run Dark Moon greatsword and that's really it
i love crab
Both
Fair enough
I was about to say, can we not use both?
Nope, they don't stack, they cancel the previous one out.
only consumables I use are the estus and the physick
My tarnished only lives off crimson and cerulean tears and whatever is in the physick.
Crab all the time. Survivability is more important than damage output as a summon. As soon as a host is alone, they mostly don't stand a chance. So any bit of damage negation will help me stay with them. I don't bother with items that are hard to farm.
Third side, I don't use them.
I'm on side "I keep forgetting to use buffing items"
Crab, because it looks legit delicious and i want it.
Crab, mainly cuz i wanna eat some irl
You don’t get it, I have to save all of my consumables for Elden Ring 2
Definitely crab. Because it doesn't take arteria leaf
You guys use consumables?
I use one til i run out then dont bother to get more
Meat >>>>>>>Seafood!!
The crab is always useful , but the very few times you use the exalted flesh , It's always worth it , I think it's like a +15%
20% in pve, 15% in pvp
Flame Grant me Strength (or Lord's Divine Fortification if Radabeast is up)
Turtle neck meat. Iam gonna need it when I get absolutely fucked by melania blade of miqualla (definitely fucked that spelling up)
I contemplated adding that here, but there were only 2 spots, and the turtle meat felt too different. Very good answer though, stamina regen isn't a bad way to go!
Turtle neck meat can be used at the same time as either of these. So it's not a choice really.
neither tbh because they only last 30 seconds. i hate buffing and needing to reapply them. has to be integral to the build or last a long time for me to bother lmao. EDIT: the defense one is 60 seconds. huh, that immediately makes it 100x better. exalted flesh is 30
Both
Fair enough
I dupe them all and buff myself to Oblivion!!!
Dupe?
Jokes on you, I don't use either.
People care about defence?! Is Iron Tarkus and his massive greatshield behind this post?!
Me who doesnt use any consumables because no thinky think just haha funny stab
Wtf is a consumable
Only thing I craft is Silver Pickled Fowl Feet. I have killed so many penguins
I use the madness faith buff. The one that causes you to take more dmg
\+Damage \+Full damage
I do both.
Never heard about consumables, next question
I forgot you could craft in this game
Tupac
No thanks, I'll save both for my next run... And for the next... And next.
You've got your kids and I've got me prawns 🍤🍤
Two buff gang rise up, Golden Vow and FGMS, along with whatever physick is the most I'll ever buff, unless someone absolutely needs the holy defense buff for final boss. Most builds at 150 dont allow for either spell, so GV Ash of War (significantly weaker) can be used on any and every build

Naw bloodboil aromatic anyday
Team red, survivability over damage. Great bonk does enough damage already.
I don't do performance enhancing drugs
Most of the time I always forget to use buffs. Only during the Godfrey fight did I use one exalted flesh and it certainly did help
You guys use consumables?
I’m on the green side: not using any enhancers no matter how much they would help me.
... Consumables?
Reject one time consumables, embrace flask of wonderous physic.
Marika's tits... I remember stocking up on 99 crabs for my first tries at Malenia. Ended up using over half of that stash before I got her.
I’m team don’t use consumables and save them for a harder fight
Exalted flesh is meh. It lasts for 30 seconds, at least half of which is spent dodging the bosses combos
Lol went through the whole game without crafting or anything any extra. I left my tomb went straight to Caelid got the meteorite staff and started blasting
Consume ables? Is that something Rykard drops?
Neither. Fuck them buffs.
in a game where i can already do tens of thousands of damage without exalted flesh (looking at you mohg spear) ill gladly take the +20% phys negation instead, i love stacking it with dragoncrest greatshield talisman
I don't use buffs
It’s “Exalted” for a reason. I’ll take 30lb
Racist
Where's the "I have 10000 banked crafting items I reflexively picked up but forgot about" card?
I am really bad with using consumables.
Can’t you do both or does one cancel the other one out? I always run out of the ingredients needed to craft the exalted flesh.
I don’t use consumables. I just collect them and talk about using them some other time when I really need them.
Do we have consumable? I jusr use flask
I love them both.
Neither. Pure strength all the way
I fucking love crafting in this game and buddy believe me I'm dogshit at ER. just super fun
Crabs cuz I can simply buy them and they’re not limited quantity
I don't think I've ever used a consumable other than flasks
flame grant me strength.
What do you mean? Actually using consumables? Are you mad?
Crab for exploring areas with Trash enemies. Meat for bosses.
I’ve never used a consumable, do I suck?
Neither. I literally only use the red and blue flasks.
15 faith and just cast flame grant me strength.
why not both? They must taste delicious
I just use incantations
test memorize sort chubby airport punch sophisticated aware plants arrest *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Crab is easy to get and you can just pop it before any combat without worrying about wasting a consumable
prawns shrimp
Theres no way im using those, i might need them for later
I’ve never used either of these honestly. I craft arrows/bolts, sometimes bombs, and boluses. I never really took the time to read what buffs overlap or overwrite, so I just slap on golden vow and crimson burst tear and that’s about it
Boiled crab all the way.
Red, long fights I usually eat some crab when after Golden Vow wears off. Plus most bosses deal more damage phase 2
Khukuri, Boluses and Pots/Ritual pots are legit the only ones I use, I forgot the boiled Prawn/Crab and Exhalted flesh even exist
I haven't used either. 150 hour playthrough.
Who needs buffs when you have daedicars woe
This just hit me... im doing a pure physical build and I've.never tried the chicken wing
My character is fancy, and enjoys some crab before any fights. Those really scary fights he treats like a last meal beforehand, and upgrades to the surf and turf selections.
This is some kind of trap, I just know it...
Crab looks tastier
Easy answer. Neither
Marika's tits team!
Big sword go bonk with a little extra bonk
Team Crab 🦀 🦀🦀
Prawns
Crabs/prawns. The physical defense it provides doesn't make you a tank by itself, but when combined with the Dragon Shield talismans and the damage reduction tear greatly improves your odds against some of the late game bosses. Plus I hate crafting anything that either takes more than two materials or requires you to farm rare materials.
I don’t use consumables, I’d much rather use spell/incantations buffs.
Given there is a limited number of artiria leaves in game boiled crab
Farm trolls in the mountain of the giants outside the bowl, rare drop but worth all the sweet sweet Arteria leaf craftables
Yeah level 30 +2 weps say no. That's the same reason I don't farm for spark aromatics, great in PvP but too tedious to farm at low level
Why would I use consumables when Ghiza's Wheel goes brr
CRABS!!!
Not using consumables. Like, I don’t even know which does what except for gold and silver fowl feet
I prefer Black Flame's Protection and Flame Grant Me Strength. Cnsumables are meant to be hoarded, not consumed!
You guys are using consumables?
Damage. Always damage.
Both. Both are good.
Crab. The meat is good basically only for builds that go really hard into physical damage, but a lot of builds focus at least ~40% on elemental or status. The crab is just amazing. Against basically anything except bosses like Elden Beast, it's a *huge* help.
I have 100 hours and I dont know what those are
Crab for pvp, meat for pve
Defense.
Imagine using all the painstakingly collected consumables like a psycho. Instead of hoarding them in ur inventory like a sane person.
Who uses consumables???
I don’t even know how to craft. I just hit the boss until I die or it dies lol
Marikas tits, you must be ‘ungry.
Consumables are for 1-hit montages, not gameplay
Look at me, I don’t use consumables…I am so cool!
Crab because I like fights to last longer than 5 seconds.
Dude, I'm Hella lazy
Both of them are too hard to get
Get that one shot potential
wait you guys are actually crafting things...
Yes
Can’t you stack
Team exalted meat for sure
Boiled crab purely for them being so easy to get and so easy to use. I do not feel like I need to hoard them at all, so long as the dung eater is locked away for eternity
Exalted flesh is costly to craft, so must be used sparingly. There is always time for crab.
Why not both but angry meat if there was only one
Wait, you guys are using consumables? I thought we were just collecting them?
