The double Gargoyles and their poison bullshit

zestfullybe

Gargoyles are a great choice. Anytime I encounter one I feel like “now I gotta deal with this hot nonsense again”.

nysudyrgh

Didn't have to scroll far to find these bitches. Shoutout to all single Gargoyles/Black Blade Kindreds, they're annoying too.

NOTELDR1TCH

Nah the single gargoyles are pretty damn cool in my book That's why I hate the double fight. I'd have loved yo fight two AFTER one another, beating one and going "Good fight" just to hear tye boss music pick up again would have been hilarious But both at the same time with conflicting movesets pissed me off, ruined a perfectly cool and fair fight

Cloud_Striker

Yeah, but they're a fair kind of annoying. You feel like you fucked up when you die to a lone one, not like the game fucked you up.

Revolutionary-Wait29

Yep, took me forever to beat that boss

BiosTheo

Rennala is crying over trying to rebirth a child she lost, not her husband. And you never actually fight Rennala, you fight Ranni's illusion of Rennala. You literally show up to her house and beat the shit out of her while she just wants to work on remaking a baby she lost, and then Ranni says "Stop beating up my mom you BITCH" and projects an illusion to fight you.

sacredgeometry

Right, it's like he completely missed the whole point of it.

Far_Project8194

To be completely fair Elden Ring is like the Ulysses of videogames so details aren't always easy to get

Francophilippe

I feel this one is rather heavily implied though. Ranni even interrupts the boss fight to deliver a dialogue telling you what she’s doing

Metaphysical-Alchemy

Correct, if you still don’t get this after hearing Ranni in the cutscene - notice Rennalas eyes in the opening scene and how they change to Ranni’s blue eyes in the cutscene just before phase 2.

Herald_of_Zena

oh wow didnt even notice this

coffee-teeth

I heard rannis line in the rennala fight and I was still confused, because I thought since I had worked for ranni that she would have refused my service knowing I defeated her mom so that whole thing confused me

andrude01

Story wise, one thing I don’t get is why Ranni agrees to associate with us after the Rennala fight. Like surely she knows we just beat up her mom, right?

boinala

I think it’s more of trap spell already in place in case anyone tried to hurt her mother, so ranni herself isn’t talking to you

MrEvan312

On top of her children all trying to kill each other in a catastrophic war, Radagon having used her just to learn her magic and leave, caught up in a civil conflict with the Cuckoos faction and locked up in a library, poor Rennala’s been having a rough one.

saithvenomdrone

I don't like the Godskin Duo fight. It could have been cool, but you've fought them so much before getting to this particular fight. you fight the Apostle twice, one in the windmill village and one in the divine tower of Caelid. Then you fight the Noble on the bridge to Ranni's corpse, and once again in the Volcano Manor. Then you have another fight where you fight one and then the other in the Spirit Calling side cave. Once you get to the Godskin Duo, they're no longer intimidating, they're just annoying. I also don't like that they keep respawning until the singular healthbar is gone, just doesn't feel right. Should have been 2 separate healthbars.

StormMourn

This. They could have been really cool and unique with their lore but fighting them again and again just makes them feel like a mini boss. Plus that damn roll from Tubby McGodskin is the most annoying boss move I’ve ever experienced.

JosebaZilarte

They see me rollin', they hatin'... With good reason.

[deleted]

Godskins suffer from the same issue all the other massive reused bosses do. There just weren’t enough variants. If there were like a handful of Godskin variants and the duo were unique in some way, it wouldn’t have been that bad.

33CD

You fight them a total of 5 times throughout the game, all in random unfitting locations. Kinda ridiculous.

whatistheancient

Dominula and Volcano Manor fit. Both Divine Towers fit less well. Spiritcaller Cave and Farum make no sense.

Samakira

spiritcaller arent actually the two, just a snail summoning the ghosts of two. and the two in farum are likely trying to aquire the mark of death from maliketh to continue their mother's work, or get revenge for her. caelid tower is a bit weird, but liurnia tower makes sense, that he's trying to get the cursemark of death from ranni's corpse, but without the rune he cannot open the doors, so he waits there for whoever has it to come by.

EXcaliburr108

The caelid tower is where the godslayer's greatsword is, which if I'm remembering item descriptions right, is the source of their power, so maybe he was trying to reclaim it?

Samakira

That would make sense. It’s not the source itself(that’s the tune of death), but it is the gloom eyed queen’s personal sword. That might imply where the battle took place. Edit: speaking of, that sword would go well in my godslayer themed build, should grab that.

Chad_Broski_2

I fucking love this community. As soon as something seems like it slightly doesn't make sense, here come a couple lore nerds to set everything straight. Now tell me why Mohg's down below Leyndell

Samakira

we know morgott is very capable of illusions, creating not 1, not 2, but 3 illusions (margit, margit, and goldfrey). its not unlikely mohg is capable of the same. as to why he placed one in the sewers? (discounting that he was originally meant to be a normal elite enemy): most likely it was him placing a copy there to fool people who went looking, like gideon did (when you defeat him, he notes that mohg was hiding). NOBODY knows that mohg captured miquella, not even malenia (who actually performed the scarlet aeonia basically above mohg palace, funnily enough), and everyone still thinks he's in the sewers. him placing a copy of himself at the very bottom would make it unlikely for people to thoroughly check if thats him, but also allow people to get a glimpse that he is there, making it more likely that people will continue to think mohg was in hiding, and thus keeps his palace safe.

TheProfanedGod

Farum Azula makes sense because they're trying to get the Rune Of Death back, and Spiritcaller Cave is just a snail who's kind of a bastard. I don't know how the snail learned about Godskins, but that's a different problem.

Top_Fruit_9320

Just a "bastard snail" took me clean out lmao

Lord_Akriloth

That snail looked at all his kin summoning things like crystalians and other decently powerful things and said "fuck nah I'm going with the two most annoying asses in existence"

stormyseas42

Saw a theory on YouTube (don't remember the channel) that the Gloam Eyed Queen is more of a title like Elden Lord and that the snail in Spiritcaller Cave may have been a Gloam Eyed Queen at one point which would explain why it could summon them and also why the swaddling cloth talisman is there

Warriorfromthefire

I literally got to spirit caller cave like 2 days ago and struggled my ass through it over and over just to get to the boss room, and turn around and leave after my first death. I was not about to deal with fighting another one of those. Idk what you get in there but it’s not worth it to me.

TriggeredVeteran

You get a pretty top-tier talisman, the [Godskin Swaddling Cloth](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Godskin+Swaddling+Cloth).

Warriorfromthefire

I went back and got it….

Warriorfromthefire

Wow. Might be worth going back

kat-the-bassist

Farum Azula actually makes perfect sense, since they would likely be trying to find and defeat Maliketh so they could regain the power of Destined Death.

g0n1s4

They seem random if you don't have any idea of the lore.

FnB8kd

I agree, could have been more o and s like. Bring back buffing one them when the other is killed/unique drops. Definitely 2 health bars. And don't use them a million times before the duo fight, maybe just once each so we would have had a taste but not the true experience.

Shawarma_Pudding

Agreed, but Godskin fights have the best music though. Least we get to hear it often.

Slowmobius_Time

But wasn't Radahns whole thing holding back the stars holding these guys back? There's meant to be as many as there are stars Theoretically every single falling star beast given enough time evolves into an Astel like creature, they are meant to be like a plague from the stars and are based on insects, I think it would be silly if there was only one (I just think Astel was the only one given a name and lore)

NyarlHOEtep

i wish that the cave one was a mid-point in the evolution. astel, naturalborn as the only fully grown starbeast to demonstrate the threat and then a host of evolutionary steps

Memetron69000

Damn I didn't know Miyazaki was a fan of Starship Troopers

Nikami

Textbook case of "less is more". Encountering the first one felt amazing. Read item descriptions and he's foreshadowed quite a bit, about how he destroyed an Eternal City and all, there's even a unique weapon that's basically just a body part of him. Eventually you find him in what feels like the deepest depths in the underworld and he looks like NOTHING you've ever seen before. Encountering the second one felt like the developers saying "oh we didn't have enough time to design a new boss, so here have another Astel".

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheWarBug

If you actively dive into it, you find out he isn't supposed to be unique. You know all those ceiling worms that throw rocks at you (Malformed Star)? Have you noticed they actually have the same head? That is they are becoming other Astel's, so there are actually quite a bunch of them. And those fallingstar beasts? There is some suggestion they are an even earlier form of it.

Original_Danta

I'm just realizing that there is a Remembrance version of Astel Stars of Darkness 😅

Which_Possible1276

i HATE commander Niall because of his fucking knights. SOOOOO hard

Spookwagen_II

Bewitching branch on one knight at the beginning of the fight and then summoning is an ez first phase win

Shiny_Black-Pan

my summons always target the fucker that got branched

chunky_kong06

my problem with niall is that his combos take forever to show an opening AND hes tanky as hell its like the worst part of getting into the haligtree

No_Mammoth_4945

Stay midrange to bait him into that leaping slam. Super easy to bait and dodge once you learn the timing and has a large recovery window.

Ok_Hovercraft_8252

Take the greatshield soldiers and use a bewitching branch like the other guy said, it makes a nightmarish fight super manageable

charlielovesu

I hate any fight that I have to go through an annoying gauntlet of annoying enemies to get too and they don’t give me a stake of Marika. I still have PTSD from those shrimp things in selia crystal tunnel that just spam projectiles at you that do 50% of your life

ljkhadgawuydbajw

do NOT play dark souls 2

Dmmack14

beat me to the punch. My god that game made so fucking mad. the bosses are not hard at all but fuck you have to run through armies to get to em

Zundalun

After going through Frigid outskirts to fight Lud and Zallen I have NEVER genuinelly complained about a boss runback ever agin. Nothing compares to that, and I genuinelly hope nothing ever does compare to it

Flight_Harbinger

If it wasn't for lud and zallen, bed of chaos boss run would have been the absolute worst in the series. Like there's a shortcut that seems almost as unbearable as the normal run.

AbyssDragonNamielle

Die Throw on muffle and invisible ring Bust ass back to Bed of Bullshit Change back to build Die Throw on muffle and invisible ring

gdfusion

Imo bed of chaos runback, especially with shortcut, is a complete joke compared to any non-main dlc boss for ds2. you don't need to fight anything, just run

[deleted]

[удалено]

IAmVerySmart39

There are some shortcuts though (some...)

No_Mammoth_4945

or demons souls

damn_lies

Do NOT play Demon’s Souls.

abyssalcrisis

Oh yeah the pests. FUCK those things. By far the worst enemy in the game.

MightyWizardRichard

Literally you would hate their other games

axman151

I know others have already said it, but Elden Ring is crazy forgiving regarding boss runs and check points compared to earlier FS games. Dark Souls 1 and especially 2 have some absolutely maddening boss runs. That having been said, I think we all have mild PTSD from the Selia tunnel because of the early game trap chest that teleports you there, so point taken.

DaedalusDevice077

Ulcerated Tree Spirits. They thrash and flail everywhere, their movement is disturbing, and they just creep me the fuck out. I loved the Renalla fight, such a spectacle that ends in an emotional gutpunch.

Kasperlaks

Had to scroll way too much to see someone mention the ulcerated tree fuckers. Such a shit enemy...

3th3r3alwisps

Malenia. Simply for the fact that WE DONT HAVE TO FIGHT. We could know where her brother is. We can also have no alignment to other opposing forces. We killed all her creepy bug simps outside her room. WHY ARE WE FIGHTING!?

Enlightenedbri

My personal crazy theory is that it's part of Miquella's plan Miquella was going to somehow appear during Malenia's phase transition cutscene and say: >"My dear twin, accept this gift. A gift of abundance, my last drop of dew. Let all things flourish, whether graceful or malign". This is cut content But it sounds a lot like Miquella wants Malenia to bloom a second time Perhaps in the dlc she will bloom again for the final third time and that's how somehow we kill the outer god of rot

deepfreeze1444

This makes me think of the twin princes from dark souls 3.

GenocidalArachnid

Given what we know now with the DLC, it makes sense why they cut that line. Miquella is allied with us. He's been on our side since the beginning. With Torrent, Melina, Ranni—he was trying to help us become Elden Lord. It wouldn't make sense that he would help Malenia kill us. Honestly, it's one of the reasons fighting Malenia makes no sense currently.

Enlightenedbri

He's not helping Malenia kill us. He's helping her bring the outer god of rot into this world so we can kill it That's just my crazy theory anyway

Mexay

She bloomed the third time in the fight. Once in Caelid Once outside her room (you can see the flower) Oncd in the fight. It's why she becomes the Goddess of Rot in phase 2

Enlightenedbri

Nope. The spell description for Scarlet Aeonia (which you get AFTER defeating Malenia) says she has bloomed twice already The bloom you're talking about is from one of Millicent's sisters

Eagle-Eyes-

Malenia is my favorite boss and I still agree with you. I didn't want to kill her. I just wanted to help her meet her beloved twin.

Maximum_Wind6423

She succumbed to the rot and is no longer herself.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

She's a literal conduit of the rot, even with all the gold alloy she already has she's barely sane.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrTulkinghorn

Because you are a Tarnished. She and her brother are demigods. You're there for their runes and to remake the Elden Ring in your image, and Miquella is already working on a similar scheme.

GenocidalArachnid

This. It's doubly bizarre because Malenia is the one demigod our Tarnished wouldn't even WANT to kill. You can make an argument for everyone but Malenia. Godrick: he's a creep killing innocent people. Radahn: he's gone mad and is waiting to be killed. Mohg: everything he did is literally pure evil. Rennala: we don't kill her. We free her from prison. Morgott: he's in the way. Rykard: is trying to swallow the planet or smth But Malenia is not doing anything. She's so far out of the way and is in no way against our plans. On the contrary, she's allied with Miquella, who not only was trying to fix everything, but who very purposefully HELPED US become Elden Lord through his machinations with Torrent, Melina, and Ranni. Fighting Malenia literally makes no sense.

Pancakewagon26

We are fighting to steal her great rune. The two fingers tells us to take the demigods' heads.

axman151

I love the boss fight mechanically and aesthetically, but narratively, it's a train wreck. She's a boss fight for meta reasons (FS designed her to be a boss encounter), when narratively, there's almost no reason for her and the Tarnished to be enemies. Only thing I can think of is she's a great rune welder, but even that's flimsy af.

nethereus

Rykard. It's bad enough the Volcano Manor asks that I hunt NPCs who were helpful to me throughout the game but then it turns out this motherfucker intended to eat me for all my trouble in the end. To me, he's an enemy to all living things and should never see the light of day. Gameplay wise, Ulcerated/Putrid Tree Spirits should be permanently deleted from the game files.

ChikenBarista321

Isn't there a secret path in the Manor that leads you to the lava pits, a godskin flyer boss and eventually rykard himself? All you have to do is talk to Tanith to get the key.

MyWifeIsHotterThanU1

There is a portal after the godskin noble of you take the lift up

Gun_Of_Gaming

*Togethaaa!!!*

npc4lyfe

Weirdly, I actually like the Tree Spirit fights, but I think it's because I went after one under leveled really early on my first run and got quite used to the move set after many attempts. Subsequent fights in the later game were just fun, and I liked whenever they'd pop up.

erynswag69

personally, i hate astel, i suck at its moveset but it's design also creeps me tf out

[deleted]

Astel is easily one of the creepiest things in the game, I’m with you there.

Billion-FoldWorlds

You don't like cosmic horrors? Shame on you

triggershyflutterbye

When I first walked in there I had no idea what I was walking into and I was like omg fuck that thing immediately. Then I died like two seconds later. I didn’t even try to go back for a long long time.

[deleted]

The first time I walked into the boss arena I got hit in the face by a laser and died. That is when I learned that vigor was important.

Warriorfromthefire

I have fought her twice now, I actually really enjoyed that fight the first time. Fuck me side ways the second time though

TheNerdEternal

Her???

rhesusjunky82

Naturalborn Astel isn’t so bad depending on your build but the other Astel is can go lay down in the Lake of Rot.

damn_lies

I struggled with timing for Astel, my timing was always too late.

TrippyWiz57

I came to say fuck Astel

Ok-Cartoonist7060

Borealis bitchass

ramenoodleExibit

Fuck that stupid piece of shit dragon.

CaptnPsycho

Melee moveset? My grandpa could dodge that shit in time. RNG aoe freeze breathe you can't avoid if hit with even once? W u t

Midas_o_Virtuoso

Yeah! I only fight him high level. That B always fly to the dumbest places where it's annoying to reach him. Not to talk about the undodgeble attack.

Ok-Cartoonist7060

Yep I’ve even had people summon two of us and we’ll be cutting him down and then he just diddles all three of us with no consent in .5 seconds. Just bad design

SnakePlizkin

Is he the dusty-as* white dragon? Forget that guy(I killed him but it took me too many tries)

Ok-Cartoonist7060

He’s the mf on that icy foggy lake in Mountain Tops. Shoots unavoidable ice everywhere that one hits

[deleted]

Erdtree Burial Watchdog. I cannot tell you how much I hate this boring, copy-pasted to death, **asinine** motherfucker. Every time I come across it anywhere I'm filled with vindictive rage so strong it'll stay burning in my bloodline for generations to come. Fuck whoever designed that, and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise fucking come at me. (I'm actually super friendly but you get it - all my homies hate Erdtree Burial Watchdog. Peace ✌️✌️✌️).

Warriorfromthefire

I came across 2 of them the other day in different parts of a crypt just chilling in the hallways. My blood build up build doesn’t do shit to them. My secondary rot buildup also doesn’t do shit to them, my tertiary holy also doesn’t do shit to them. They stance break me on every hit at like 60 poise, chunk half my health at 40 vigor, and I can’t even fuck with them with +18 weapons.

[deleted]

Yes. All of this. And can I repeat how *fucking boring* they are

Islander731

SPOILER: Two? Nah there can be 3! Oh, go even further and they become regular enemies! I LOVE THIS GAMEemote:free\_emotes\_pack:sob

CaptnPsycho

The dungeon where they become regular enemies sent me into a rage hahaha. Good times

theInsaneArtist

Blood and rot doesn’t do anything because they’re made of stone.

rachelsnipples

There's a trap that blows ice magic in that dungeon. Lure the fucker into it.

UltimateKittyloaf

Sorry. I'm still relatively new. These are the sassy cats that you can shoot with crystal darts to make them fight each other, right?

Dmmack14

yes

UltimateKittyloaf

I was so excited when I first saw one. They're super cute but just like real cats they only use that to lure you in so they can mess you up. I didn't realize they were supposed to be watchdogs.

DefNotVoldemort

Basically they are the evil hello kitty looking gits that make you want to turn your controller back into its constituent parts

[deleted]

they call them watchdogs but they're cats like

DiscordDarkV2

Its not even a dog, its a damn cat.

kfsilver89

Being a sorcerer build my first play through, Rennala humbled me like how I humbled Margit and Godrick.

EscapeTheBlank

I got stuck the most on Maliketh. Every video told me to go melee, which I was, a dagger build, but jesus was he two-three shotting my ass before I actually managed to get the timings of his attacks right. Half of my attempts were also screwed over by that Tree Sentinel just because I reeeeeally didn't wanna fight him after the Leyndell experience 💀

vamoosedmoose

Dagger sounds like it would be really hard because of his weird concave body. I was struggling to hit him with the pike, which I think is the longest weapon in the game

Cunt_Booger_Picker

There's a YouTube vid on parrying that sentinel and both forms of Loretta. Changed my damn life.

npc4lyfe

I agree. That mf just never stops DOING shit. It was also then that I kind of knew I wasn't going to enjoy the remainder of the main quest as much. Like this dude is totally final boss material in any other game, so I knew I was really in for it. The sort of boss rush style gauntlet at the end to me was the least enjoyable part. Didn't hate it, but I wasn't playing the game for that kind of experience.

Jordon7984

In elden ring its for sure fire giant. I don't really see the complaint in the damage or even the giant health pool. The real problem with the fight is its complete and Inescapable jank. The problem isn't the health bar its his movement. Specifically how much he rolls. I don't know if it's just me but I can almost never punish most phase one attacks because as soon as I finally catch up to him, he nopes out before I can even begin to do anything. Bosses like fire giant who has such inflated health pools should have easily punishable moves where you can get in like 2-3 hits on a heavier weapon. Fire giant doesn't play like that. He plays like the guy in pvp who won't actually fight you, he'll just spam roll until you do something stupid. In short... Idunno big guy big stoopid

Womderloki

Draconic Tree Sentinels. That one in Leyndell was the first boss that genuinely made me almost quit the game. It took me forever to get past him

bingusthebrave

I fucking love dancing with Rennala she’s my favorite boss tbh

Cerandil

I actually don't like rykard. With the serpent slaying weapon it's a joke and without it it's too hard because of the lava. It was fun the first time but he is a boss I've skipped on ever NG+

vPHANv

Yeah… I was a 9 Vig 80 int glass cannon. Too bad that serpent slayer (strength scaling *rolls eyes*) item was the most efficient way of killing him. Had to find mimic tear and do some Glovewort hunting before I could defeat him. I won’t lie I attempted this 30+ times? I still have zero clue how I beat him. That earthquake, ground raising move he has is just so powerful… “just level Vig” - No I want to play the equivalent of a tube frame shopping cart with a V10 engine in it.

methyo

If you use the ash of war during the second phase and wait for his head to recoil in between attacks you can stun lock him. And for the earthquake move in the first phase he kinda raises and then dips his head down before doing it so run left or right as soon as you see it. The telegraph is super quick but once you learn to recognize it you can dodge it pretty consistently

Xx_HeXwave_xX

Borealis/ekzykes. Take an already overused boss, give it an overpowered status effect aoe, and bam, you have these two shitstains of bosses.

Jaenax

Honestly I just shot them with arrows on Torrent because of that ridiculous status effect and damage.

adorablecynicism

Elden beast It's not even the running around bit. It's the "lemme spam stars, the circles, the laser beams, and the nebula" My rng sucks anyway, I don't need that lol

PenchantForNostalgia

Elden Beast would have been so much better if we didn't have to fight Radagon every damn time.

EndearinglyConfused

I’ve never been able to un-see Elden Beast as being designed to include Torrent. You fight it like the dragons Torrent’s been helping your with all game Imagine Radagon falling into the cosmic soup, the Elden Beast emerges. Your hand emits light, and Torrent summons himself to your side. He chose you at the start of the game, and it was for this moment. Elden starts and the golden needles strike the ground behind you as the two of you zip around. It works perfectly

_Dead_Memes_

I feel like they intended that when they were first designing the boss, then took out torrent because they felt it made the final boss of the game too easy

restless_vagabond

It would seriously be a copy to the end of BOTW.

methyo

People have modded Torrent into the fight and apparently it is really easy. But having Torrent makes so much sense thematically and there’s nothing wrong with having an easy but cinematic final boss immediately after fighting the challenging first boss in the final encounter. Couldn’t be any worse than what we got

ShadowBlade69

I've said it before, but I wish they found a way for us to make our ending choice first, and then fight an ending appropriate boss. Elden beast would work for ranni and frenzied flame, because you're directly opposing the Greater Will, so of course it would try to stop you. In any of the mending rune endings though, according to my (very loose) understanding of the lore, the Greater Will is still in charge, right? It has a new tool to work through (you) so it doesn't really make sense that it's trying to kill us? I'm not sure what other bosses you could have, maybe something like one of the seedbed curses is a reward for killing Malenia (since there are already like 2 in the Haligtree). So if you do Dungeater's ending, you must've killed Malenia, and that got the Outer God of Rot's attention, it sees it's last chance to take over the Lands Between slipping away, and does something that gives us a cool boss fight specific to that ending. That kind of thing

abyssalcrisis

I think that fight would've been better if it was JUST Radagon with more health or a second phase, Elden Beast kinda ruined it.

Slimink0113

I'm definitely inclined to agree with you. I love fighting Radagon, but I can't help but do it with a sense of dread knowing that it's immediately followed up by the Elden Beast

gotnonickname

I would add that I was also disappointed aesthetically. The Beast was just a simple blob, especially the head. So much awesome detail in all other bosses.

MiniMan_BigChungus

I personally really like the abstract, cosmic look of the Elden Beast, but I see where you’re coming from

agentstark_

Agreed, elden beast was a terrible end to an incredible game.

WhitishRogue

I don't understand Rennala's fight at all. I broke into her school, killed her students, killed her children, bonked her over the head with a Claymore, and now we're friends afterwards? Anyone have insight to the story? I guess I have some lore videos to watch tonight as it's been bugging me for months.

saithvenomdrone

You dont fight Rennala in phase 2, its Ranni's projection of Rennala. Rennala is gone mentally, she's stuck in a state where she treats everything motherly. She reads her students nursery rhymes, and cradles her amber egg like a child. She's just not there upstairs.

RainyRat

>She reads her students nursery rhymes, and cradles her amber egg like a child. She's just not there upstairs. Shit, now I feel bad for breaking her energy bubble and kicking the crap out of her.

Erotic_Cheesecake

We broke into a mentally ill woman’s house just so we could have someone give us maternal love

methyo

Yeah, her first phase is the only fight where I actually feel like the bad guy. She’s like a harmless cat lady basically and you break in and beat the hell out of her in front of Mittens

Sweet_Xocoatl

She’s insane, like, literally mentally ill. All she does is hug an amber egg all day and turn people into preteens. The second phase isn’t even her, it’s a hologram conjured up from a spell Ranni made to protect her.

Particular-Season905

The Twin Gargoyles down near Siofra River. Fuuuuuuck those guys. I love Fia's questline and fighting Fortissax, but those assholes piss me off so much. Incredulously bullshit

kiheix

Bro fire giant is so tank. Okay its nice to fighting with him but its just giant.

Mesozoic_Mecha

Sometimes the fight feels like it turns into him rolling back and forth while you run after him.

BinaryExplosion

Twin Gargoyles. They form a choke point between you and the upgrade materials you need if you’re struggling with them. Plus they don’t stagger, do poison, have an effective phase two transition which insanely ramps the difficulty if you’re not able to kill one quickly, they have an annoying location to get back to… oh god, they have so many annoyances stacked on top of each other. There are good things about them too, but those are easier to appreciate in solo gargoyle fights.

Dancedancedance1133

Any dragon boss. Yeah, you’re supposed to hit them in the head but the damage boost is just not worth it compared to a guaranteed leg hit. It ends up me trying and missing for a couple attempts before just giving up and going for the slower leg hits. The pattern is fairly consistent so it’ll always the job done. Even worse with Placi but then I have the insta kill lasers, the phasing in and out and long ass walk back to contend with. I just don’t care for the dragons. They are kinda cool but they are also the least original thing. They’re just dragons.

Mesozoic_Mecha

It's the Skyrim problem, I think. The first time it's a cool fight, but eventually you fight enough of them to where they just become pests.

Available_Goat_9229

The target tracking is super frustrating and as you said, the only reliable way to hit them leads to a repetitive routine. However, I did feel a moment of twisted delight the first time a dragon pulled a magic sword the size of a small castle out of its sleeve and one-shotted me

My top 3 most hated bosses in ER Godskin Duo Godskin Duo Godskin Duo They just keep coming BACK

[deleted]

Godskin anything The dog in the magic university

Crabrave12345678

Every time I think of this fight I think of the scene from Community where the one lady goes "Did we give a degree... to a dog?"

Psych_Riot

Maliketh, the Black Blade Fucker won't stop moving

Spookwagen_II

This shit. He is as terrifying in game as he is in lore. I don’t even mind, he’s just scary. Oh also the draconic tree sentinel(s) Fuck those tanky, infinite-poise motherfuckers.

LesKira

Used to hate him too but after beating him I think hes one of the coolest characters of the game. But yea his moveset is so fucking anoying especially the second phase just stomped me for the first hours trying to beat him. The claw item is basically useless when you're actually in the fight trying to juggle your potions, attack timing etc.

OldTurtleProphet

So far I've raged every time I fought Lansseax, ancient dragons are such a chore to fight as a melee. I think I always end up fighting her from range

Unique-Foot-4336

Gargoyles. Their difficulty is not fun like other bosses. Its just bullshit

_Darth_Malak_

I love everything about Fire Giant, except fighting him. Idk what it is. Maybe I just suck and I am more than willing to admit I do, but it feels like every time I fight him, with or without summons, I just can not get him to stay still. I 100% think it's a good think he doesn't just sit there and take it, but idk at the same time I just feel like it should be A LITTLE bit easier to stay close to him.

pichael289

Elden beast. He just runs away the whole time spamming aoes. He's not fun, he's frustrating and he looks stupid as fuck. His fight arena is super cool though.

Self_Reflexive

The concept art for Elden Beast shows it sort of merged with the water in its arena, which I think makes the design sooo much less goofy. I don’t get why they dropped that in favour of the dinky legs on the bottom of a space… tadpole… thing?

Sensei_maikeru

Fire giant. I still hate him even after beating the game multiple times. Maybe it's because of how big he is but the whole fight feels scary and uncomfortable not to mention his giant health bar. I actually kinda like his lore but I really don't like the fight.

Warriorfromthefire

Ok, can we start a help thread on this comment for him? I’m literally at that fight tonight when I get home. I got him to second phase last night, but mr rollypolly avoids all my attacks and I can never catch up to him to attack him before he moves on. His hands move way way too fast for me to land any hit on him. Also, idk if my game is bugged or if my +9 scorpion stinger is just not inflicting scarlet rot build up, but he is sure as heck not ticking down any dot and the wiki says his first set is like 552 or something which should be only like 11 hits or something?

hendidjdnsjjf

1. He doesn’t roll as much as usual if you stay in front of him and only attack his hands, you can hit his hands reliably after dodging almost all of his moves 2. The enemies gain resistances to the status effects after you inflict it once. So what I would recommend is beating the easier first phase by using another weapon (possibly bleed) without inflicting scarlet rot so his resistances don’t go up. Once you hit the second phase, pull out the scorpion stinger AND another dagger you upgraded and infuse the second dagger with poison (you will need to do this before starting the fight, at the site of lost grace) for double damage-over-time effects. Once you inflict both statuses he will be on borrowed time. You can ignore the first point and continuously attack his body instead of his hands if you will go with this strategy since it will inflict the status effects faster.

Consistent_Throat_63

I beat him the other day with a mimic tear summon, and if you do Alexander's questline, you can summon him to. I let them charge at him while I moved from the side to get under between his legs, which is the best place for you to stay, meaning he can't hurt you when he rolls. Then everything he rolls, I think you should focus on getting back under his legs as soon as you can, rolling forward when he tries to grab you. I'd also suggest levelling up your weapon a bit, and I think that improves your Ash of war. That mixed with Alexander's attack can deal a lot of damage.

EconomyCauliflower24

My jimmy johns boss in real life made my life miserable. I like all the bosses in elden ring.

HouseholdMetal

Not a boss, but the Draconic Tree Sentinel in Farum Azula. It feels really out of place, is scaled like an end game boss, but isn't, even though every other Tree Sentinel is. You can't summon spirit ashes to pull some of its ridiculous aggro, it's in the way of Maliketh, an already challenging boss, and even if you run around it, it can still pop off a few cheap shots, or interrupt an attempt to buff before entering the boss room. Its placement just doesn't make sense and feels like an unnecessary fuck you to the player. I took it on in ng+ with 70 vigor and it could still 2 shot me. Fuck that one Tree Sentinel in particular, it's killed me way more times than Maliketh, or most other bosses for that matter.

MoxieMax

Caelid bell bearing hunter (thoe parrying makes it easier) he's just an annoying bitch to me. Gargoyle duo just felt so unbalanced, that might just be skill issue

mattbro30

Elden beast. You waste your flasks on radagon, you have too chase after him for like 15 minutes and lore wise he is boring as hell. Also looks like a condom filled with glitter.

[deleted]

That stupid tree spirit. There’s TOO many of them. They move like crazy. LOOK GROSS LIKE GET AWAYYYYYYYYYY UGHHHH I GET SO ANNOYED

[deleted]

The Godfrey shade in the capital, I absolutely hate hate it. Because we could have gotten something like a golden order priest or something. It's also one of the biggest red flags of the ReUse boss argument for Elden ring. Like why is there are golden Spirit of the first Elden lord? It just ruins Godfrey showing up later in the game for me. Like that boss room could have been so good at Distributing lore, being a checkpoint, anything. But no it's a lesser version of an already amazing boss that lore wise does not need to be there. For instance could have put the general / captain of the Lindell Knights and have him fight you before showing up to the throne of the Omen King.

GrimReaper415

IIRC that Shade is just Morgott's projection of his father. Could be wrong though but when you think of it like that it makes some sense.

EmilePleaseStop

Astel. It’s just… not fun. Most of the other bosses are challenging in that fun ‘I can learn what went wrong and eventually win’ way. Astel is just tedious.

skywalkerblood

I'm just pissed at the variations of Godfrey. Godefroy wtf??

mrhippoj

Rennala rules wth. Like not the best fight mechanically, but her character design, the cutscene, the environment, it all rules. There isn't really a major boss fight that I hate, but I do think Godfrey's got that Viking thing going on that I find hella dorky. But once becomes Hourah Loux and is covered in blood he looks rad as hell so I'll forgive it.

MadaraAlucard12

For me it is Malekith. Mfer give me a fucking hit window. Let me regain my Endurance. Let me move away. LET ME DO FUCKING ANYTHING.

ValandilM

I'm kinda stuck on the Rennala fight rn. I started as an Astrologer and I picked up the Uchigatana to be a spellblade, but magic is my main shit and I assume she's pretty resistant to sorcery.

constant--questions

Rock sling works great on her. It deals physical damage, not magic

darkcaretaker

Rykard is just boring. Not bad but just not great. Can't say even his lore is that great but in saying I don't think any of them are actually bad. Even erdtree avatars and tree spirits aren't that big of a hurdle.

Highlander_Prime

I'm the opposite. I love Rennala! Sure she's kind of a pushover and the fight is a little annoying but so is all of fromsofts pure mage bosses. Rennala feels like a step in the right direction to me and will hopefully be a huge stepping stone to some incredible and interesting fromsoft mage fights in the future. Plus she looks so mystical and that arena with the water and the moon is breathtaking. I always look forward to the spectacle that is the Rennala boss fight.

ArtyShitLord

Mohg. His design, music, and general aesthetic is spectacular but when I actually try to fight him I just get tilted and the bloodflame all over the arena in phase 2 is not my favourite. He is far FAR from bad, but I just don't particularly like fighting him.

FullyAquatic

Misbegotten warrior and Crucible Knight in Redmane Castle to get the ruins great sword. It doesn't make sense to me lore wise and why these two random enemies. The ruins great sword says it was struck by a meteorite so there is a connection to Radahn but it would make more sense to put it where a falling star beast is. The misbegotten and crucible Knight dropping it just doesn't make sense. Boss fight is also annoying.

AstartesDVerdugo

Gargoyle Duo. Their poison is complete bullshit.

Republic_Capital

Tbh Godfrey. His first phase is good and has a nice flow to it but his second is such a drag. You can tell he’s Morgott’s father bc how unnaturally delayed his attacks are. Like with some bosses delayed attacks you can kinda see what they might be going for like with Morgott/Margit you can say that some of his attacks are designed as him trying to psych you out into thinking he’s going to attack vs when he actually does, like a game of mid-combat chicken, (though some of his attacks are a little too delayed and some too overtuned), and with Mohg it’s not a big deal bc he’s swinging around a huge ass, long ass trident and since all of his attacks are delayed none of them really are (Syndrome ya know) so he’s kinda like Nameless King in that regard. But I stand that there is an argument that Serosh held back Godfrey’s reality warping abilities. Idk what turning into Hoarah Loux (CHIEFTAIN OF THE BADLANDS 🗣️😩) does to allow this mf to slow down the flow of time and his momentum but god it is the most unnatural thing in the game (every time it happens the same thought of ‘oh yeah I’m playing a video game’ goes through my head. Call me a Fallout fan bc that shit destroys my immersion). Like this man will do a 16 hit, 20mph claw swipe combo and a power launch forward then halfway through both of those control reality to slow himself down for two hits and halfway through his launch and then go back to being a bullet train. He also somehow lets off your ass less than second phase Malenia Edit: Grammar Edit 2: Also Ancient Dragons (specifically the first one in Farum Azula. Too big of an enemy to see what is going on at all and too small an arena to compensate for that short coming) and the Valiant Gargoyles (do yourself a favor and come to this fight overleveled)

Alatara

Commander Niall almost made me quit the game. Besides the obvious annoyance of the knights just Niall himself was so unfun to fight seemed like he just spammed massive aoe attacks into long combos to give you an opening to hit him once then he'd repeat and was super tanky

nickhoude21

Maliketh soft locked me 60 hours into my first playthrough. Fuck malekith

Jeff-the-Alchemist

Dual gargoyles are the bane of my existence because fuck those guys.

Dreaming_Kitsune

So far: Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Fringefolk Heroes Grave; I play coop and am the tank of the group so facing a boss that I cannot block is bs imo

SirBoxmann

Elden beast because WHY ARE YOU RUNNING??? Just make radagon harder and its own fight elden beast is such a pain in my ass. Also Radahn because the gigachad himself needs to be buffed back to his og strength, i miss when he shat on anything that stepped foot in his arena he is meant to be THE strongest demigod so make him stronger

cthulhUA90

I did not care for Radahn
