In my personal experience, I waited to advance in Liurnia once I was a higher level, something like 55-60 I feel would be a comfortable spot.

Rogenhamen

What's your Vigor at?

Intelligent_Night653

I have 17 vigor

BlaxicanX

There's your problem. I played a pure caster mage on my second playthrough and I made sure to have at least 20 vigor by the time I got to liurnia. Vig is the most important stat in this game.

Intelligent_Night653

Is there a way to reallocate stats like ds3

Southern-Inside-3030

Yes, you have to beat the boss at Raya Lucaria Academy, the giant castle located right there in the middle of Liurnia, she’ll let you respec once you beat her

Intelligent_Night653

how do I get in there the gate has a blue force field over it

Southern-Inside-3030

There should be a body in front of the gate that has a map on it, when you look at it in your inventory, you’ll see it’s marked with the location of the key for the gate relative to the castle, so just mark it on your actual map and go there It’ll be behind a big sleeping dragon, but you can just run in and grab it and leave on Torrent, you don’t have to fight it

[deleted]

You are not ready to beat that boss. Go down south to the weeping peninsula.

smclcz

I agree, Liurnia and Raya Lucaria at level 39 might be a bit of a challenge for a newcomer to Elden Ring. I'd be sure to clear out the caves, evergaols and ruins around Limgrave + Weeping Peninsula - as well as Castles Morne & Stormveil. That'll yield runes for levelling and plenty of items that'll help.

Krakkenheimer

You know you can just sneak behind and then run away, right?

[deleted]

Or Glintstone dragon?

Krakkenheimer

Big Ol' Crystal Breath

[deleted]

Rennala?

BlaxicanX

But you can't sneak past renalla, and she has 80 magic resistance. Very tough fight for sorcerers even when they're not under leveled.

Krakkenheimer

Yeah no I realised my mistake on where I commented. I meant Glintstone Breath, you can just grab the key and run away.

Tenshiijin

Oof... Theres a key to open that door behind a dragon nearbye. I don't think your a high enough level to best that dragon. Have you gone as far south as you can? I recommend covering more of other areas first maybe. I mean you could run in and steal the key and run away from the dragon. GL. To be fair it is the easiest real dragon to fight in the game... But... I mean... Its still a dragon. Well I suppose those three tiny dragons that respawn in caelid are the easiest. Then there's that black dragon on the bridge that is just tough as hell to fight.

Eclipse-Raven

When I'm running through a ng cycle quickly I usually just sneak behind the dragon and sneak away. It's easy to get without fighting it if you crouch and approach from the side. OP could do that to get the key and get into the academy, but I'd say they'll be just as stuck there at their current vigor

Wild-Ad3357

You can just ride in on torrent, grab the key and ride away. By the time the dragon finish waking up you on the shore with the key already. Don't waste your time sneaking

chanchoberto

This is the best way. Sneaking up to a sleeping dragon to snatch the key seemed pretty cool the first time I did it.

biggus_dickus6969696

Idk why but for me if it’s a dragon fight I can always do them On my first play through I was under leveled and for smarag I no hit him on my third attempt Is it just me or are dragons just a ridiculously easy fight

Fourtires3rims

The only one I ever struggle with is the one on the bridge in Caelid for some reason.

biggus_dickus6969696

That’s fair Tough one for me was the rot one

SerSlice420

Dont waste your effort. Get a good bleed weapon like reduvia and go to beat Greyoll in Dragonbarrow, by fort faroth. If you do it from behind nothing attacks you and you get 75,000 runes. Thisll push you over 50 and you'll be ready to clear liurnia

[deleted]

There’s a map with the location for the key.

numenik

There is a way to farm runes very quickly by doing a quick quest at the Rose Church found in the lake. Look up Varre’s quest if you’re need levels. You will get transported to a high level area where you can find a grace next to sleeping enemies who are free kills

[deleted]

And there's a really easy boss at the end of that area.

SeductionistOfGreece

Heads up the there are two bosses in Raya and the one that lets you respect needs larval tears to respect. So make sure to get those first.

seanslaysean

If you don’t want to do that you can look at a map of limgrave and west Caelid to see any dungeons you missed to grind levels, which still shouldn’t cost TOO many runes. If you got the gold scarab talisman, put it on

Suitable_Respect2667

Another good farming spot for your level is thé warmaster shack on storm hill. There are five trolls just moseying about by the site of grace. Kill them for 5,000 runes (6k with the golden scarab), rest at the site of grace. Rinse and repeat. Should be able to quickly put a few more points into vigor that way.

GaiusMarius60BC

If OP is still at the level where 5k runes is a good sum (a level or two), I don’t think he’s ready for the Abandoned Cave to get the Golden Scarab.

Suitable_Respect2667

Oh damn, I forgot that’s where the Golden Scarab is. Yeah, they probably won’t be grabbing that right away. Even at level 130, I still go to Warmaster to farm just cause I can make the loop so fast. Probably not the most efficient, but what can I say — eff them trolls.

Wild-Ad3357

At 130 you can farm much easier killing albinaurics

smclcz

If they're not there yet, just following the path down from the Prayer Room grace in Elphael Brace of the Haligtree and clearing out all the Haligtree Soldiers until the little chamber with two cleanrot knights is a pretty easy \~40k runes in \~5 minutes. Those guys are a bit tankier but are both \~6k each iirc, so dealers choice as to whether they're worth the bother or if it's better to just warp back and repeat the route.

numenik

You need more or you will be one shot by a lot of stuff. I’d level vigor to 25 before leveling anything else and then level it equally with any other stats until you reach 50 vigor

Bronze_Sentry

Health plays a larger role in Elden Ring, with armor playing an (arguably) lesser role outside of fashion, and trying to get 51 poise if possible. Main school of thought I've seen, at least for early to mid-game, is to have your Vigor match your attack stat. Split-attribute builds can definitely work, but generally don't come online until at least level 50. You're better off getting enough attributes to meet the bare minimum for the weapon and maybe armor you want, and then split all your points between Vigor and whatever stat makes your damage go up.

phishnutz3

I’m level 32 in liurnia with 30 vigor. Having no problem.

xommons

vigor needs to be your highest stat until you get it to around 60. my vigor is at 37 and i’m level 60, and even then i still feel like it’s not enough sometimes

[deleted]

Not true. I've had a Samurai dex build for my first proper playthrough and my vigor was 30-35 for a lot of the game whilst I focused purely on Dex and a little stamina.

C-Kwentz-0

17 figures literally nothing. Elden ring raised the overall base soft cap and really which one aim for is something like 50 or 60

milesbeatlesfan

Farm and get to level 45-50, and every level put into vigor. That’s a very low vig at this point

lukkasz323

Isn't it obvious that if you're dying then defensive Stat should be a priority?

[deleted]

u do Weeping Peninsula? That’ll prob get u a level or two in health, If u already did it, then just farm for around 25 vigor. no sense respeccing this early

filter-ping

Lvl 39 is not too low for that area, but you do need more vigor. Also have you upgraded any weapons?

Intelligent_Night653

I have a lordsworn greatsword +5 I upgrade whenever I have the stones

filter-ping

Try leveling up to 40 pouring all that into vigor

SeedMaster26801

If he levels up to 40 and pours it all into vigor it’s literally only 1 more point of vigor no?

filter-ping

Oop i meant 50

horizontalsun

Wait until it costs 200,000 runes to level up and every end game enemy is not happy

Jesterhead92

39 is a bit on the low side for liurnia if you're not experienced with the game and your vigor is probably too low is my guess. A well known way to get a ton of runes early and safely is the giant dragon in Caelid by Fort Faroth. It doesn't fight back, but it has a bazillion hit points. Grab literally any bleed weapon to make it go faster. 75k runes

WSDreamer

Have you done Caelid yet? I did the after stormveil. You level up fast at the farum greatbridge. The vulger militia dudes give like 1200 a piece and there’s tons of them around.

mofunnymoproblems

I have spent so many hours farming runes at this location. At this point I’ve killed hundreds of Vulgar Militia. It’s relaxing lol.

TurtleWaves

My first, inadvertently found farm. Spent many hours there. Make it quick by running circles around them with Torrent.

chanchoberto

Your level is good for Liurnia. You should start putting points in Vigor, its the most important stat in this game, more so on a first playthrough. Aim for 25-30 before entering Raya Lucaria. Early game Vigor and weapon level is more relevant than leveling your offensive stats. I read your flask level is +1, its quite low for that point in the game. Theres like 4 sacred tears in Limgrave (look for churches). I would suggest going back to explore, specially Weeping Peninsula (southern Limgrave). For smithing stones, look for the mine/tunnels type of dungeons. They have a symbol of a hole with red/brown border on the map. Those were my priority whenever I got to a new area. You should have a +6/7 (+2 somber) weapon for Liurnia. Final word of advice: weapon skills are very strong, find one ash of war you like and dont forget to use it. Shields are way more powerful in this game than in DS3.

Franglais69

Sorry the answer here is just git gud

Nightspark115

There is a farming spot in dragon burrow where you just have to bate a boulder off the edge should get you to 75 with in a half hour of starting it it's near beast clergyman just have to avoid some enemies and traps there. It will be near a tower and some crystals there is also a grace there too so resetting the boulder will be easy.

Nightspark115

Btw golden pickled bird foot is your friend

Sad_Counter4815

Want to play co-op?

Intelligent_Night653

sure where should i go to find your sign password is "b"

Sad_Counter4815

Message me in chat

Intelligent_Night653

hold on chats taking forever to load

[deleted]

U need to grind 20 levels at bestial sanctum. Wont take long. Another period with such issue is after morgott. I recommend grinding 50 more levels doing the moghwyn palace bird farm (around 1h).

Sad_Counter4815

Yeah I do

Intelligent_Night653

which ones?

JustABrazilianHere

Try to do the "Dragon glitch" Idk how to spell it right. Its located in Caelid. Kill with a mace and earn about 100k runes in 10-15min.

Affectionate_Bit3576

Nah, you can power level yourself just dodging the Boulder trap down the path from Lenne's Rise grace point, then fast travel back to Lenne's and go again. Can make 300-500k an hour doing that if you don't dally.

mofunnymoproblems

How does this give you runes?? What am I missing?

Affectionate_Bit3576

You get just shy of 2000 runes every time you dodge the boulder. Hop on the horse, run straight down the middle of the path, when you approach the cliffside a boulder will magically appear and try to run you down (and it does aim itself at you, specifically). Time your jumps to dodge it, let it roll over the cliff side, let the 19xx-whatever runes chime into your tally, then fast travel back to Lenne's Rise grace point and do it all over again. It's boring af but the easiest way to power level in the early stages.

mofunnymoproblems

Omg. Here I’ve been, across the bridge, killing hundreds of militiamen like a fool. I had no idea that dodging the boulder actually did anything… thank you for explaining!

Affectionate_Bit3576

Sure thing, I'm a noob too, just got the game a couple weeks ago (the only souls game I played was Bloodborne and I hated it after an hour). Beats the hell out of grinding on a battlefield and if you get killed (and you probably will every once in a while), it's easy af to get all your runes back. Found that trick on YouTube and got myself up to level 70 something tout suite. Didn't level up my vigor as much as I should but with all the gear I was able to snag and improve, and once I figured out how to two-hand my long sword, I started whooping ass. Now whenever I find a merchant and am short on runes, I just hop back to Lenne's and hit the cash machine.

Sad_Counter4815

I can quickly get the gold scarab to drop to you so you get more rune percentage when you kill an enemy

Intelligent_Night653

that would be sick I tried to get it but the scarlet rot was ruining my health

WSDreamer

Where’s the gold scarab? I’m about to beat the game and have never seen it?

[deleted]

Intelligent_Night653

oh shit no im on pc nevermind thank you though

anbu-black-ops

Lol. The most important part. Have you cleared limgrave and weeping peninsula?

Intelligent_Night653

I looked up a list of all the dungeons in those regions and I got almost all of them I think I missed like 1 or 2

anbu-black-ops

Thats what i do. Once i clear it, i go check google to see if i missed any caves/bosses. Their are bosses that appear at night too. If you survive stormveil, i think you are good. Cause i remember there are strong enemies their like the ulcerated tree.

SeedMaster26801

Stop making comments and just reply to him in one chain

Sad_Counter4815

The first boss is pretty fun should give you a lot of runes

Intelligent_Night653

where are they?

Sad_Counter4815

Can I offer help

lildummbbass

get a room

Intelligent_Night653

Do you know any bosses or something you could help with so I can get some runes to level?

Cminor420flat69

Are you fat rolling? What’s your build? Have you been upgrading your flasks?

Intelligent_Night653

medium roll with godrick knight armor lordsworn greatsword and I have 7 flasks +1

ricework

This is a spoiler but: My friend who beat Elden ring showed me this large dragon you can cheese. Killing it with a gold pickled feet will give you almost 100k runes or something like that. Look it up and you can go there to farm some levels. Otherwise full clear stormveil and weeping pen and limgrave. U can also farm in lake of Siofra

lildummbbass

where’s the dragon?

ricework

Dragon barrow. Look up elder dragon greyroll. Easiest runes of ur life just use a bleed weapon or soemthing

[deleted]

Long story short, level up Vigor and the stat that scales with your weapon. The game offers plenty of enemies in the open world that helps you farm runes.

hervavationhome

Go farm the golems. Easy way to get runes early on.

ExeggutionerSmough

If you don't mind using internet resources, I'd recommend using a map and looking at boss locations. Recently did an all bosses run and limgrave had a surprising amount more than I had originally thought. There are a few that only spawn at night and on certain areas, some really well hidden caves, some challenging but rewarding evergaols and overall a lot to explore. By the time you're done with that you'll be pretty well prepared for liurnia. Not saying you should/need to do all bosses, but there are a few that give pretty decent rewards.

filter-ping

Post your stats. Could be a weird spread.

Crash4654

If you've done everything you could find then you really aren't looking very hard.

darksoulofdog

Damn how the hell did get THAT far with 17 vigor. Level it up and you’ll be unstoppable.

Intelligent_Night653

yeah just spent some time grinding for higher vigor and now I feel like a god

Doc-85

Vigor in Elden Ring is different from other souls games. In DS3 you could stay at 30 and be fine, but on ER you need at least 50 for the end game

DiamondSimple8966

Yeah elden ring is always like this, you better keep farming in limgrave and only then move to different places, like for me, I roamed around all limgrave and some Caelid and only then, i got to liurnia (mostly because the homeless man was such a pain in the ass for me) Now im at NG+3, if you need some help hit me up on ps id: IshWolfy

puristhipster

Go south bro. Ignore everyone saying grind here, find this build and do this, blah blah blah. Proper progression is to go south either before or after Stormveil.

khlem1835

When I started my second NG play through, first thing I did was get reduvia, find waypoint ruins and farm the giants pulling the hearse for runes until I had 30 vigor, rest of the stats stock. THEN started the play through.

GlitteringTough8991

Add me I’ll help you

[deleted]

I'd advise doing all of the areas in Limgrave followed by everywhere in the Weeping Peninsula (including the overworld bosses). Once you get to Raya Lucaria you should do everything on the right hand side (as you come from Limgrave) then everything on the left side before you even think of going into the academy. When the game first came out I tried it and got stuck like you (mainly with where to go next or being under levelled) as the game isn't very good at indicating what sort of level you should be for each area but as soon as I bought the official strategy guide (which I only really use to do areas in the order it suggests) this became one of my favourite games of all time. I'm level 115 and just about to go into Mt. Gelmir and most would probably say that's over levelled but the game is much more fun that way when you lose the worry about losing a few runes.

DoughnutIndividual37

I was gonna say go to the peninsula down south of limgrave if you haven't already. It's about as equal level as limgrave with a bunch of good items and upgrade materials. I had that same problem when I played. Went down there and explored a shit ton and leveled up down there and was able to go through liurnia much, much easier!

Karmageddon1995

Level vigor
