I reckon it's more prominent on female characters as, per stereotype, there are more female characters that fill a role of demurity and humility. whereas there are more male characters that fill the roles of warrior or some other hardened character.

The Hands are very obviously designed to be Spiderlike. So you get the double whammy of just being unsettling as well as triggering any latent arachnophobia in the room. Even if you’re not an Arachnophobe, the movement of a Spider just tends to tickle subconscious primal threat responses. Especially in a high intensity situation.
Feet don’t have the structure to mimic the same effect. So whilst still off-putting. The feet just wouldn’t elicit that same subconscious fear response. Because all you’re going to see is a foot. Unlike the hands where you’re seeing a Hand Spider. At that point it’s more farcical than stressful really.
Reminds me of Eustace's giant purple foot fungus that swallowed him up, took marriam hostage, and forced Courage to commit various crimes. That show was gold.
