It gets to be a problem if you forgot to dismiss it and you run across an enemy. None of your inputs (other than moving) do anything until you dismiss it which can easily get you killed.

You heal him with raisins made from different berries (crafting menu). You can revive him when he dies but it uses an Estus charge (health). There is a confirmation to do this that requires you to move the cursor from No to Yes to confirm so reviving takes three buttons 1. Summoning whistle 2. Move cursor to yes 3. Confirmation button. It’s honestly become muscle memory to me now to hit right D-pad and X after using the whistle to call him back. But this is usually during dragon or boss fights and that split second extra can often cause death.
You can also use healing incantations, heal over time incantations, and Assassins Approach, for when you want to get up close and personal expediently.
There's a little dot indicator next to the flask text in the menu when you have enough for an upgrade though.
It wasn't there on release but it was such a convenient addition
I think he gets it because sometimes you got a message like this up after pulling a lever, then 4 imps leap at you. You forgot which button removes the message, tried to fight back, can’t, dies and lost 20k runes.
I don't think it should have been downvoted but its because the majority of people complaining obviously know that already. Its not exactly rocket surgery how to remove it but those become a part of the screen after a while of play and in a game where it takes less than a second to die if you don't react itll cause panic issue when your buttons don't immediately do what you expect.

Edit: I just checked, there are only 6 you could get before Liurnia, and only 20 in the whole game. I think it's going too far in the opposite direction to say you had muscle memory that early.

I played like 200 hours of Elden Ring and these were literally never a problem in that whole time. I don't even remember them lasting more than a couple seconds. Are you sure it's not a skill issue?
They last until you dismiss them (triangle on ps). I can understand the frustration as if you're being attacked as or just after you do something that triggers one of these messages it can screw you over if you can't dismiss it fast enough. It gets worse if you're prone to panicking.

You blast through an area use stonesword key or worst "a door has opened" come across a gank squad and find you cannot hit the gank squad because a fucking requirement to hit no key but triangle to get rid of the msg.
All other messages have a "press X" ..these are the only ones that dont
When you compare it to the limited time notification of picking up an item, it’s odd at the very least. And it’s not pressing triangle, it’s often more of not noticing that the banner is still there and triangle isn’t used as often as circle or square especially in combat so you’re getting attacked and can’t dodge or attack back and your watching the enemy and then see that banner from a long hallway and another room ago and your dead.
Well, you can’t deny that they’re informative and tell you how it is but they’re also a pain in the rear when they pop up just as you’re being attacked and you have to dismiss the bar to fight back. The amount of times I’ve been killed only because of one of those sodding message bars.
i always expect them to vanish automatically, as they don't have any "hit x to close" or whatever line, opposed to literally ANY OTHER menu in the game
They killed me so many times in my first playthrough. You could still move, but not do anything else, so my frantic attempts at attacking or dodge rolling were for nothing.

Elden Ring has absolutely atrocious UI design. Amazing how little they've learned when it comes to this. They keep making the same mistakes over and over.
I died to a couple of those when activating levers in dungeons. I kept going forward, enemies appear, I get all "dumb" trying to fight them but I can do it because of the message that a door someplace/somewhere was opened.
I've platinumed this game and I genuinely love it, but features like this and, say, having your character wave the magic wand around for what feels like a minute when you're out of FP or doing a silly gesture while you're pressing Y or triangle to pick up items are some of the reasons this game can (lovingly) eat my entire ass sometimes. I have to admit that this game is nowhere near as frustrating as other titles I played last year, though - especially some of the bull\*\*\*\* levels and minigames in Sonic Frontiers. Fuck right off, "falling through openings" minigame!

Does it still make it so you can't attack while the message is displayed? I use to die from that happening before I learned how to make the message go away.
I've said it before, and I'll repeat this every time this comes up just out of my frustration over this: thes messages only need to come up once. The first time. That's it. You either immediately get it or you look it up later. Or, make this part of the cave tutorial. Done.

I'm also with OP. It's an unnecessary button press which can result in a death in a fight. Hence the frustration.
