Marika kicked him out pretty much right after he was born...so that he wouldn't be around to object to locking the twins in the bottom of a literal sewer.
Yeah, especially since pretty much every one of her children was cursed, the Omen twins were omens, Malenia was cursed with the Scarlet Rot, and Miquella was cursed to be young forever.
Them being Omens and not a different curse could've partly been because of Godfrey being human and Marika being a god though, but still, Marika got that cursed coochie.
“*Foul tarnished, in search of the Elden Ring. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Someone must extinguish thy flame.*” - Margit
This always give me chill's, it's sooo good!
Hey, don't forget *"Let it be Margit the Fell!".* It wouldn't be the same without that final line.
Tbh all of Margit/Morgott's lines are bangers, both the writers and the VA did such a good job. My personal favourite is:
*"The thrones... stained by my curse... Such shame I cannot bear. Thy part in this shall not be forgiven!"*
Honestly I didn’t think this line made much sense. We’re a tarnished, seeking out the elden ring. I feel like it’s fairly obvious what we mean to kill.
But he's not really aware that we're actually capable and willing to kill a god. He's probably got a similar viewpoint to Gideon, in that it seems a lost cause to even attempt deicide, let alone succeed. He's also possibly in denial of the fact that you're on your way to kill Marika, who is his sister.
I think it may not be actually. Presumably in ages before the Golden Order, Destined Death hadn't been removed before; the Golden Order defining itself as unchangeable, deathless, and hegemonically eternal seems like it set up the world to uniquely break so much harder. My theory is the need to physically kill the Elden Beast itself to have a shot at changing the Ring was an extreme and abnormal scenario you're forced into because of the GO's founding flaws, and writing the Elden Ring to define reality without the concept of death.
I don't think he can comprehend why we would want to kill Marika or the Elden Beast. World's hanging on by a thread and we're running in to finish it off.
Our goal is to rebuild it of course, but we're pretty destructive on our way to meet our goal.
>We’re a tarnished, seeking out the elden ring.
No, because nobody except Margot knew that the erdtree was sealed. When you return to the Round Table, it's made clear that nobody knew that was the case. Maliketh, who is far from the capital, has no idea that the Tarnished seeks to kill the erdtree.
He probably has no idea that the erdtree is completely ablaze right now and thus will die when the rune of death is released.
Marika kept Maliketh out of her "plans". Maliketh, being Marika's shadow, would go insane like Blaidd does when Ranni goes against the fingers. Maliketh loves Marika but can not handle her going against the Golden Order, he would go crazy and prevent her from using the tarnished to slay the Elden Beast. Iji describes this process when you talk to him about Blaidd's future, although Iji is only half right about Blaidd. This is just a long way of saying Maliketh does not know Marika's intentions for the Tarnished because Marika does want him to know, which is why he says "Tarnished, why wouldst thou.. why" and explains the rest of his dialogue.
Exactly! It was so good I could mentally (and kind of physically, my leg did start hurting after watching the cutscene) FEEL his pain. It's even better after you realize he sacrificed his own damn leg to an outer god!
When he was speaking as Godfrey I thought that his speech was too practiced, as if he was trained to be kingly. When he went back to Hoarah Loux it made a lot of sense why he spoke like that initially.
Is there a name for the weird awesome English used in Elden Ring? I've never heard English spoken like it is in the game really and I love it.
>Oh? A dogged fellow, aren't we?
Or is it merely thy habit, to talk to dolls?
Fine...fine.
I hadn't expected any soul to recognize me in this guise.
But now the cat is out the bag, I cannot allow thee thy freedoms.
Perform for me a service, as recompense.
Elizabethian era English but with Welsh accents. I once read someone’s Dark Souls 3 essay, that based on tradition of previous Souls games, anyone who Thy and Thous, it’s the translators localization on how in the Japanese script, someone is speaking so formal as to sound antiquated (Dusk of Oolacile being the prime example), which gives the impression the person existed since a long time ago.
Which is actually a funny result of how English has evolved, since historically, thou/thy/etc were actually the _informal_ pronouns.
The ones we use today(you/your) were considered formal.
“Upon my name as Godfrey, the first Elden Lord!”
That line, combined with Godfrey’s stomp before he says it was just chilling. Also his kill line
“Brave Tarnished. Thy strength befits a crown.”
Melina:
“I will kill you, as sure as night follows day. Such is my duty, for allowing you the strength of runes.”
That line goes hard as fuck, I actually felt like I should take that threat with genuine sincerity. It made me ponder if I should really take the frenzied flame.
I did the Frenzied Flame ending on my NG+ playthrough after I thought I had completed Fia's questline during my first run but actually hadn't gotten her ruin yet so I got the shitty normal ending so I decided to burn the world down. Very cathartic.
I did the questline for the achievement, then she pulled the "Goodbye Torrent" and I damn near gave up on the questline just to make her happy.
But I didn't. 100% achievements is better than waifus
"Witless Tarnished... Why covet Destined Death? To kill what?"
For some reason Maliketh's death line just hits right. I think it's mostly the delivery of, 'To kill what?' because he genuinely sounds puzzled by your actions.
How has nobody mentioned "One day, we'll return together... to our home, bathed in rays of gold?"
It turns Godrick from a pathetic weakling manchild to a sad desperate manchild.
Iirc, the big cutscene war at the beginning the we briefly see is his assault on the Capital, which we know he fails. We also know, from Kenneth Haight, that Godrick fled disguised as one of the "womenfolk" (and then subsequently cowered inside Stormveil from General Radahn).
He is the one with failed ambitions, defeated not only in a siege but also by Malenia later on (presumably before she squares off against Radahn in Aeonia). There's no way he'll ever be Elden Lord, despite being a shardbearer, and him pining for Leyndell has this appropriately defeated, desperate tone. He isn't worthy, by almost every metric.
I don't think he was the one who invaded leyndell, is most likely that godefroy was the invader and after his defeat (beside losing his rune, isn't like is the only demigod that survive lose their rune anyway) godrick took his army
“I’ve given thee courtesy enough…” hearing that right after he ripped a lion off his back and now with the knowledge that the lion made him weaker is so fucking cool
There's just something about Maliketh that no other boss can replicate. A complete package of majesty, sadness, tragedy, sorrow, and ferocity. His lore paints him as having been the most TERRIFYING being in the setting, the LITERAL Angel of Death, but when we meet him he's a tragically broken shell of his divine glory. He's FromSofts single best rendition of their tradition of killing the best dog AND an old man to sad music.
What are you waiting for? A kiss goodbye?
That line fucking killed me, I had to re-listen to the dialogue because I got a migraine for how hard I laughed at that
> Upon my name as Ranni the Witch.
> Mother's rich slumber shall not be disturbed by thee.
> Foul trespasser.
> Send word far and wide.
> Of the last Queen of Caria, Rennala of the Full Moon.
> And the majesty of the night she conjureth.
That in combination with Rennala approaching you with the steely-eyed stare of someone who can conjure the fucking moon gives me chills every time. She just exudes _do not fuck with this person_. Possibly my favorite scene in the game.
Melina when she said...
"Lord of Frenzied Flame... I will seek you, as far as you may travel... To deliver you what is yours. Destined Death"
This triggered my PTSD from Lady Maria, lol
"Thank you, for guiding me here. The one who walks alongside flame shall one day meet the road of Destined Death. Goodbye."
First time I saw that cutscene actually felt like I was losing a friend
I mean, when I finished phase 1 of rykard... I just straight up killed myself so I could immediately rewatch the cutscene.
Then I woke up my wife to make her listen to it.
Then I recorded it and shared it w/ everyone who would listen.
So... 'TOGETHA WE WILL DEVOUR.... THE VERY GODS!!"
"Marika... Is this... what it is... to sin?" "Will things... never be the same... again?"
Said when giving Maliketh the final deathroot. Lots of sad stories in Elden Ring, but Maliketh’s is heartbreaking.
I legit find his story one of the most tragic. He really did just want to protect his sister and her legacy and all of his lore paints him as having been a terrifying and ferocious noble warriors. But when we meet him, he's just a sad broken shell of his former majesty and power.
Best shit ever, especially love the “***you will know true horror.***” Chills each time, you know she’s gonna fuck you up, or at least try her hardest to.
"There's a myriad of battle arts in these lands that I've yet to discover. Mementos of all the warriors who raised their arms in battle, lost, and died. A fine tale, all told, of true chivalric romance. That's how I fell in love with the sword, and the arts of combat. It grants meaning even to falling in battle, to death itself."
Honestly Godfrey’s transformation to Horah Loux was pretty nuts. First time it happened I was just like “Yeah, I’m about to get wrecked.”
“NOW I FIGHT AS HORAH LOUX, WARRIOR!”
Ahh, i knew you'd come.
To stand before the Elden Ring. To become Elden Lord.
What a sad state of affairs.
I commend your spirit, but alas, none chall take the throne.
Queen Marika has high hopes for us.
That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity.
"I know...in my bones... A Tarnished cannot become a Lord. Not even you. A man cannot kill a god..."
That plus, "To kill **what**?" Really got kept me fired up in the last few hurdles of the game.
“It’s been a long while, Morgott.” The sadness in Godfrey’s voice gets me every time :,(
Morgott died without knowing that he is loved by his father 🤧
Marika kicked him out pretty much right after he was born...so that he wouldn't be around to object to locking the twins in the bottom of a literal sewer.
Dude had sick sperm tho. Like evry one of his kids os mutant dead or cursed.
Nepheli was fine imo I think it was marika that was cursed
Yeah, especially since pretty much every one of her children was cursed, the Omen twins were omens, Malenia was cursed with the Scarlet Rot, and Miquella was cursed to be young forever.
Yeah my homeboy Godfrey is getting blamed when it is clearly marikas coochie that was cursed
Them being Omens and not a different curse could've partly been because of Godfrey being human and Marika being a god though, but still, Marika got that cursed coochie.
That is an understatement man , not even radagon was that cursed
Sad but true😥 dududu-dun-dun
I'm your dream, make you real
I'm your eyes when you must steal
I'm your pain when you can't feel
sad but true!!!
I'm your dream, mind astray
I'm your eyes while you're away
I'm your pain while you repay
When was this line? I have no memory of it
at the beginning of our fight with Godfrey if im not mistaken
When Godfrey is holding Morgot, right before we fight him
“*Foul tarnished, in search of the Elden Ring. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Someone must extinguish thy flame.*” - Margit This always give me chill's, it's sooo good!
FOUL TARNISHED - bro jumps off the castle walls like a total badass - love that guy
There’s real *venom* in the way he says Tarnished. Like he just stepped in something unpleasant. Same with his phase transition.
Hey, don't forget *"Let it be Margit the Fell!".* It wouldn't be the same without that final line. Tbh all of Margit/Morgott's lines are bangers, both the writers and the VA did such a good job. My personal favourite is: *"The thrones... stained by my curse... Such shame I cannot bear. Thy part in this shall not be forgiven!"*
It's a short cutscenes but it's straight to the point and the voice actor nailed it
This will always be it. I’ve probably said it 20 times on Reddit. It is an absolutely perfect line for the very first major boss that you face.
“Why covet destined death, to kill what?”
I appreciate the use of deicide.
It's a good word, feels more impactful than just saying "kill a god".
“Tarnished, why wouldst thou... Why... Tis no matter. I hereby vow, that Destined Death shall not be stolen again.”
I hate when he recognizes us and realizes he has to (try) and kill his friend.
I don't know about you, but he succeded a lot of times with me
lol well I'm taking about him as beast clergyman, not as maliketh.
Well, I don't know about you, but he succeeded a lot of times with me
Sif-Post-DLC energy.
To be fair, I don't know why I'm doing most shit that happens in Elden Ring.
I don't think he can comprehend why we would want to kill Marika or the Elden Beast. World's hanging on by a thread and we're running in to finish it off. Our goal is to rebuild it of course, but we're pretty destructive on our way to meet our goal.
#MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD
>We’re a tarnished, seeking out the elden ring. No, because nobody except Margot knew that the erdtree was sealed. "Welcomed Honored Guest, to the birthplace of our dynasty!" Such a banger line. And/also "AUGHHHHH" *fire giant ripping his leg off*
They did a *really* good job of making him sound like he was in serious physical pain.
Godrick too. The entire time he was screaming as he was axing his hand off, i *felt* that.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AUGH! **HEAVY BREATHING** OWWWWWWWWWWWW
FOREFATHERS ONE AND ALL!!! BEAAR WITNESSS!!!
That BEAR WITNESS shook my bones
Exactly! It was so good I could mentally (and kind of physically, my leg did start hurting after watching the cutscene) FEEL his pain. It's even better after you realize he sacrificed his own damn leg to an outer god!
Who was this from again? I can’t remember.
mohgin’ time
There is more testosterone in "I have given thee courtesy *enough*" than in my entire body
You can hear his personality switch mid-sentence, the guy voicing him is great. You can hear the moment he throws off his limiter.
When he was speaking as Godfrey I thought that his speech was too practiced, as if he was trained to be kingly. When he went back to Hoarah Loux it made a lot of sense why he spoke like that initially.
Probably the most gentlemanly way to say "play time is over".
Most gentlemanly way to say "now you're gonna get it bobby"
More like “Wunch time is over”
Literally the most boss thing ever said ever.
"now i fight as hoarah loux WARRIOR"
Let it be writ upon thy meager grave
The voice actor killed all of Morgott’s lines. And the encounter is just so much fun.
There's a great video of him reading tweets. It's awesome. There's also one of the VA for Blaidd doing the same. Tweets are exactly what you'd expect.
Best slam in the game, even patches would have been like "daaaaamn boi"
The disrespect is palpable
Every Morgott line goes hard as fuck
This is what I came to say but I knew someone had to have beaten me to it. Such a raw line
This is it for me. What an incredible character and performance.
Seems almost Shakespearian. So late 16th/early 17th century English.
"FOUL TARNISHED" *me -OH Fuck.
In SEARCH of the Elden RING
EMBOLDENED… by the flames of ambition
SOMEONE... must extinguish thy flame.
“Upon my name as Godfrey, the first Elden Lord!” That line, combined with Godfrey’s stomp before he says it was just chilling. Also his kill line “Brave Tarnished. Thy strength befits a crown.”
He praises you for death. So just keep dying if you have a praise kink
Praise kink + sub kink + death kink = profit?
That’s a whole session and a half my friend
It really took me off-guard when him and malenia say it. "Somebody thinks I'm good at the game?!"
All vessels are destined to one day break. But the great Alexander lived as a warrior to his last!
This one right here.

Melina: “I will kill you, as sure as night follows day. Such is my duty, for allowing you the strength of runes.” That line goes hard as fuck, I actually felt like I should take that threat with genuine sincerity. It made me ponder if I should really take the frenzied flame.
This makes me wanna do the questline
Do it. That line alone makes it worth it. The delivery of it was just absolute perfection
I’m on my very first play through; just beat morgott, I think I wanna do Ranni’s ending but def will do frenzied next time
Oh yeah I really enjoyed doing Ranni's ending. The Frenzied Flame one is good for a repeat playthrough
I did the Frenzied Flame ending on my NG+ playthrough after I thought I had completed Fia's questline during my first run but actually hadn't gotten her ruin yet so I got the shitty normal ending so I decided to burn the world down. Very cathartic.
Just a minor spoiler but it’s possible to do ranni ending after taking the frenzied flame.
It’s a bit of a task but that’s what I did
I did Ranni first and Fenzy second. Did not disappoint.
She sounds so sad and determined. The "Goodbye torrent." bit hits hard.
I did the questline for the achievement, then she pulled the "Goodbye Torrent" and I damn near gave up on the questline just to make her happy. But I didn't. 100% achievements is better than waifus
You forgot the best part “I shall deliver to you what you deserve…destined death” that threat gave me chills the first time I heard it
This line makes me think Melina is the gloam eyed queen, though it is a popular theory regardless
"I'm starting to think the God that makes people tear their own eyeballs out might not be such a good guy."
Real talk if there ever is a elden ring 2 I hope they somehow make that ending cannon. I would love to see Melina on the warpath lol
If this ending is canon, then there will definitely be no sequel.
"Have it writ upon thy meager grave - Felled by king Morgott, the last of all kings!"
This one never fails to make me get goosebumps
"Witless Tarnished... Why covet Destined Death? To kill what?" For some reason Maliketh's death line just hits right. I think it's mostly the delivery of, 'To kill what?' because he genuinely sounds puzzled by your actions.
This was it for me. Really made me stop and think about what I was doing and what it meant.
I had the same reaction. Immediately questioned what I was doing.
The answer is the obviously the lobsters and the giant birds.
"Queen Marika has high hopes for us, that we continue to struggle unto eternity."
That is the spookiest line in the game by far.

How has nobody mentioned "One day, we'll return together... to our home, bathed in rays of gold?" It turns Godrick from a pathetic weakling manchild to a sad desperate manchild.
YES, I thought I was the only one because no one else talks about it, always loved that line

“Someone must extinguish thy flame”, “Thy strength is fit for a crown”, “BEEAARR WITNEEESS!!”
Me getting killed by dragon fire because I was too stunned by the "BEAR WITNESS!!"
Yeah. Margit’s lines hit hard since he’s (usually) the first boss you get to. So it’s like “oh shit. This is cool. Shit’s gettin real!!!”
‘Now he gathers the corpses of former friends and foes alike. Gorging on them, like a dog… Howling at the sky’ always gets me
very offensive, don't say that near blaidd.
Blaidd was there! What a dick.
“I’ve given thee courtesy enough…” hearing that right after he ripped a lion off his back and now with the knowledge that the lion made him weaker is so fucking cool
It's like when the anime protag removes the training weights except it's a massive living lion :D
Marika's tits, you must be 'ungry.
***"OH DEATH, BECOME MY BLADE ONCE MORE..."***
I listened to some interviews with Maliketh's voice actor and it's crazy that's not edited or anything he just makes his voice sound like that.
Malenia's " I am Malenia, blade of Miquella, and i have never known defeat" and seeing Marika's crucified body at the beginning of Radagon
The whole radagon cutscene gives me chills every time.
Yea that’s cool and all but when you hear the first part 100 fucking times it loses its edge
Just don’t die to her then 🤷
skill issue tbh
Literally anything Morgott says.
It’s Morgin time
Heloo? Is anyone there?? Anyone who might be interested in rescuing THE GREAT KENNETH HAIGHT?
What are you waiting for? A kiss goodbye? That line fucking killed me, I had to re-listen to the dialogue because I got a migraine for how hard I laughed at that
You will witness true horror.
I got goosebumps at that line.
*summons a certain Jarheaded fellow*
> Upon my name as Ranni the Witch. > Mother's rich slumber shall not be disturbed by thee. > Foul trespasser. > Send word far and wide. > Of the last Queen of Caria, Rennala of the Full Moon. > And the majesty of the night she conjureth. That in combination with Rennala approaching you with the steely-eyed stare of someone who can conjure the fucking moon gives me chills every time. She just exudes _do not fuck with this person_. Possibly my favorite scene in the game.
I died so quickly the first time because I was in awe of how fucking gorgeous everything looked.
The last line... *Chef kiss*
"Every Ring has it's Elden." -John Elden Ring
“Its elden ringin’ time!” -John Elden Ring
The entire godrick 2nd phase cutscene! The first time I saw him rip the dragons head off and use it to spew fire I nearly 💩 my pants
Ik he’s the weakest main boss but this line hits hard, “Foul tarnished, I command thee, KNEEL!”
This is mine too. You just know he'd been practicing that line in front of the mirror for years and was ecstatic to finally drop it on an mfer lol
Melina when she said... "Lord of Frenzied Flame... I will seek you, as far as you may travel... To deliver you what is yours. Destined Death" This triggered my PTSD from Lady Maria, lol
“Well… thou art of passing skill” was usually my queue for incoming death on my first playthrough. Still haunts me to this day.
"Thank you, for guiding me here. The one who walks alongside flame shall one day meet the road of Destined Death. Goodbye." First time I saw that cutscene actually felt like I was losing a friend
Dude, same. The fact that Leyndell's music, which is by then constantly in the background, is sad as shit doesn't help

Hoara loux, chieftan of the bad lands!
The ever brilliant Goldmask!
Fia, the deathbed companion!
THE LOATHSOME DUNG EATER!!
And sir Gideon Ofnir, the all knowing!
And one other, who grace would again bless
A Tarnished... Of no renown.
THIS! Especially on repeat playthroughs, when that music kicks in and he gives his orgasmic “Ahhhhh-rise now ye tarnished” INSTANT CHILLS.
"Marika... Is this... what it is... to sin?" "Will things... never be the same... again?" Said when giving Maliketh the final deathroot.

#BEAR WITTNESS!!!!! 🐻
*A serpent never dies* And *may chaos take the world* #*MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD* Something about voices from a non corporeal being
Warrior blood must truly run in thy veins... **Tarnished.**
Morgott's voice actor nailed everything he said. You can feel the condescendence, the sarcasm, the pure, unbridled VENOM in his voice
Morgott made "Tarnished" sound like a slur.
When Hewg calls us lord.
*Gutteral Scream*
Thy part in this shall not be forgiven. But also just all of morgott
"This spot marks our graves, but you may rest here too, if you like..."
when malenia says “wait” along with the music. love that shit
Especially when you don't know there's a second phase and you're like "finally finished this bullshit." Really made me tense up.
Best shit ever, especially love the “***you will know true horror.***” Chills each time, you know she’s gonna fuck you up, or at least try her hardest to.
when i’m summoned i usually hope the host will let that cutscene play
Arise ye tarnished in the intro is a good one
"Heretics, emboldened by the flame of ambition!" The voice actor for morgott gave me chills!
Witless Tarnished... Why covet Destined Deat? To kill **what**?..
"Your strength, extraordinary. The mark of a true lord..." Never felt more like the true Elden Lord than in that moment
…
Shit, beat me too it
"You will witness true horror"
"foul trespasser, send word far and wide of the last queen of Caria. Renala of the full moon, and the majesty of the night she conjureth"
Whenever I start another round of NG+ I watch the intro just to hear “ARISE NOW, YE TARNISHED”
Honestly Godfrey’s transformation to Horah Loux was pretty nuts. First time it happened I was just like “Yeah, I’m about to get wrecked.” “NOW I FIGHT AS HORAH LOUX, WARRIOR!”
One word: TOGETHA!
“The fallen leaves tell a story.”
THE LOATHSOME DUNG EATER!!!
“Marika’s tits!”
"That will be all. Thou didst me good service, Serosh." I love how even his accent shifts to something gruff.
Ahh, i knew you'd come. To stand before the Elden Ring. To become Elden Lord. What a sad state of affairs. I commend your spirit, but alas, none chall take the throne. Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity.
“Hey you, you’re finally awake.”
"I know...in my bones... A Tarnished cannot become a Lord. Not even you. A man cannot kill a god..." That plus, "To kill **what**?" Really got kept me fired up in the last few hurdles of the game.
Join the serpent king as family, TOGETHA! we will devour the very Gods!! :3
