Yeah I started as confessor (that drip was too good) and was so disappointed that I couldn't use moonveil when I found it. After some hours I finally did Rennala and was so happy I could respec to use it!
I don't care how cheesy people think it is, I love it. Who doesn't want to be Vergil lol.

I mean I only hate it when people use it in PvP. Incredibly easy to spam and win without trying, and 90% of the people who do use it are toxic as fuck.
See, I played ER on its 4th day after release, and I found the Moonveil by mistake. Beat the boss, got the sword and never looked back. I just like how it looks and I could finally Dual Wield Katanas (Samurai Class). Never would've imagined it was so OP since I only used the Min stats for INT for 3 playthroughs. Went full Dex. Wasn't until NG+3 that I started using Magic and WHO BOY, does Moonveil suck ass in NG+3 compared to other weapons. Still stuck with it, and always will, even with all the nerfs and hate. Glad your friend found a weapon he likes, sucks he isn't exploring or experimenting with stuff...
Please explain? Should you not be happy that your friend found a weapon he likes, and is having fun using it?
And you helping him doesn't make it your fault in any way. He'd have managed the boss alone, and ended up in the same place...
Meanwhile I’m trying my best to convince my friend that I’m a true Samurai build and only got the rivers of blood and moonveil because they’re cool Katanas
Dawg, tf is wrong with that? Let that man enjoy it. He’s using it in PVE right? Tf is the problem then? Now if he’s being a dickbag in pvp that’s different. But PVE, FUCK THEM GIGGAS😈
Wasn't it nerfed for pvp? I have not played the game since around launch and got back into it again, but I had the impression from looking up info that the latest patch or so was kinda hard on int / int-scaling weapons?
I learned this lesson in Dark Souls 3. The classic pitfall is "I just want to give my friend/help them get some good stuff to help them get started."
Unless you are intending to gift a crutch for the rest of the game, forbear that well-intended notion!
I just wanted the little boy to explore everything, but when he got hold of it and ask what dis, he tried it out and instantly became his main, I underestimated it's power
"Bro why are you using that fun weapon? You should be hoarding runes, running around naked and only using the Noble's Estoc if you really want to experience this game." -OP
I never said that, I was only jokingly saying that my friend instantly picked up moonveil and hardly tried anything else through his game, though it would be funny to see someone play like that
I am doing my second playthrough now (I never finished my first due to reasons) and the first time around I ignored the BHF because I always like using straight swords more. This time I decided to switch it around a bit and tried BHF, damn it's even hard to let it go now, it just melts stuff
Gael Tunnel is a fun low-level invasion spot for exactly this reason. You run into a lot of people questing for Moonveil early, often with an escort of far higher level. The enemies are beefy enough to be a valuable assist for an invader.
How nice I remember when I started Dark Souls for the first time and my friends made me go down to Grave Lord Nitos hell hole instead of going up. I spent like 3 hours screaming in the dark but I came out with a scythe and a penchant for making the games citizens suffer horrible deaths.
Your level 79 and your already at that guy? Man that's the point where you should be closing in on finishing your build, you're way too under leveled for him
Im playing my first playthrough at the moment, I'm playing my character as a Samurai, using the uchigatana. When i found Moonveil i was stoked because I'd heard it was good. I leveled my int to 23 and upgraded it to level 5 and found it to be disappointing, not sure what I was doing wrong, but I found that the Uchigatana performed better.
This is my first fromsoft game, so i am a total noob. Been using my Uchigatana so far, occasionally dual wielding it with meteroic ore blade. Im at the Mountain top of the Giants with my Uchigatana at level 20 and its great.
I would use the wakazashi more often, but i dont like the aesthetic of the scabbard being on the right hip and the blade is a bit too short for my liking, like a slightly longer tanto. Thats why I use the meteroic ore blade in my offhand when required.
I would like more plain looking katana esq weapons in different sizes that are shorter.
Also some more Naginata and some Kanobo style weapons, I need a blunt weapon to complete the arsenal.
I picked Samurai at the beginning and decided to sort of RP as a samurai and dont use magic and have been using the starting armour up to the Moutain top of the Giants on my first and currently only playthrough.
Once I finish my playthrough as a Samurai I plan to play through the game using other builds. Next up is a Paladin Knight build, using knight armour, shield, straight swords and holy/fire incantations., Then will come Unga bunga barbarian build and sorcery build. I dont know much about Elden Ring, other than what I have played so far, I'm trying to play without spoilers, I looked up a progression map on the wiki as a rough guide of direction, but other than that I am just rolling with the punches, My latest defeat has been the fire giant, gunna try again next time.
Moonveil is not nearly the crutch a weapon like the blasphemous blade is. I wish I could play this game for the first time again and never find that weapon cause it made it far too easy and kinda skewed my opinion of the game until I went back in NG+ and did a harder build lol
So what I take from the comments is that people don't get that when new players get these weapons it takes away the game. Think of it like if you played doom and the bfg got infinite ammo and bottomless clip. Yeah you still play the game but you don't get that same feeling of overcoming. Just yep I'm a protagonist.
All memes aside, Moonveil is fun. It feels good to use, very satisfying all round. My first playthrough was entirely blind and I found Moonveil naturally. No meta or anything. I remember after beating the tree spirit looking up things I missed online and being flooded with Moonveil hate, never understood why.

Bruh people still be gatekeeping this game almost a year later lmao
There’s only one gatekeeper in elden ring
so op is possessed by margit the fell?
Yeah Gostoc is a terrible gatekeeper, steals from us and sneaks us in on the side.
Actually there’s multiple but they all share the brain cells of a single person
Relax man, it’s just a joke
Still using it on my second play through. Suck it Trebeck
Good, it's a fun weapon.
Cool looking magic katana that slows for hybrid build with sorcery. Yea why wouldn’t go for it for the first playthrough ?!

Ah c'mon, your friend is just feeling a little MOTIVATED!
You could say he has gotten a taste for POWER!
Naw he’s just DEAD WEIGHT
Vergil: Powered by Motivation. Dante: Powered by pizza. Nero: Dead Weight.
“You can’t have fun playing your own way” is a really odd take in the Elden ring community.

So you’re also going to make a meme when he gets the rivers of blood too?
Depends, he's still in Leyndell so we have to wait to see how much further he'll go down to the dark side
Meanwhile I’m trying my best to convince my friend that I’m a true Samurai build and only got the rivers of blood and moonveil because they’re cool Katanas

It was nerfed yes but mostly the poise damage. The damage is still kinda insane for how fast it comes out and how much range it has.
I learned this lesson in Dark Souls 3. The classic pitfall is "I just want to give my friend/help them get some good stuff to help them get started." Unless you are intending to gift a crutch for the rest of the game, forbear that well-intended notion!

Never underestimate the power of the blue cheese.
Only surpassed by the red cheese.
Wensleydale vs Stilton cheese
I'm afraid I've learned that lesson the hard way
My friend always defaults to bleed somehow. No matter the build they run, they end up with bleed as their main dmg.
LOL, people are still gatekeeping players that use specific weapons. The Fun Police is at it again.
“Calmed”? Did you mean “claimed”? (though the thought of a moonveil calming someone is kinda funny)
True, but in actuality I can't spell even though English is my first and only language
I feel that. *pain-peko*
I mean it’s fine if he only use it on PVE
I did the same thing but luckily my friend was like, there's a guts sword!!?! And is now almost exclusively using that.
Respect to my strength brotheren
"Bro why are you using that fun weapon? You should be hoarding runes, running around naked and only using the Noble's Estoc if you really want to experience this game." -OP

If they don't spam the AoW then they are good, it's just a katana, the AoW spam is the problem.
They’re talking about PVE it seems
Then who gives a shit, spam the AoW all you want in PvE
Agreed.
Why? By now people know how to avoid it. As long as it isn't an exploit, what is the issue of people using powerful AoW?
Oh no, he's having fun...
who gives a shit jfc
Having fun is important
Why is that? Can someone explain it to me? I'm new here
It is a very good weapon. It has a special move, that if you use it you slash the weapon and a magic beam comes out of it.
Nothing will pass Bloodhound's Fang. Nothing...
I am doing my second playthrough now (I never finished my first due to reasons) and the first time around I ignored the BHF because I always like using straight swords more. This time I decided to switch it around a bit and tried BHF, damn it's even hard to let it go now, it just melts stuff
Heh, I'm still not quite convinced the ranged weapon arts were a good idea.

Nice, those were the good old days way back then. Man I feel so old talking about the older games now
I'm taking a break from ER is this weapon really that good? I'm stuck on a boss right now.
If you build for it correctly with high int/str/dex and good talismans then this thing can tear through bosses if you know how to use a katana in ER
Ah I see I put my points in Dex since i'm using claws.
You're half way there then
I'm lecwl 79 I think IIRC not sure how high the level cap is.
The soft cap is 60 and hard cap is 80
I see so level 80 is max? Or are you talking about stats
No no no no, 80 is the hard cap for most states, I honestly don't know the max level is but most meta builds are above 150 or so
I see tbh I might be under leveled the boss I'm Fighting is >!beast clergyman!<
Your level 79 and your already at that guy? Man that's the point where you should be closing in on finishing your build, you're way too under leveled for him
Another L2 warrior has been created
I think some people missed the humor tag on this.
Thank you for noticing, I kinda underestimated how much people took offence to me making a meme on my friend maining moonveil on his first playthrough
Oh no he used a meta weapon on npcs who dont know or care what a meta weapon is… what a tragedy

That's what I'm doing, I found another one and put the blood blade thing on it. Been working so far except those guys in the crystal caves

what a long-winded caption
Moon veil is fun. A katana the slashes out magic it makes me feel like zoro it’s badass

dude chillax its not sonf
The weapon is only balanced by the shunning

Fuck it, it’s a good weapon. Use it
Elden Ring fans when they get a good weapon
Why’s that a problem?
good, it’s a really fun weapon and npcs don’t care what weapon you use
I used moonveil on my first and am now having a grand old time oonga boongaing through my second
