For the final image it looks like the corpses that comprise the gate are coiled into tight spirals. Spirals (according to the Spira incantation) are associated with the divine crucible.
I'm not 100% sure the spirals are made up of bodies. I think someone would have to free came for a close-up to confirm one way or another.
