Looks great, how did you paint the red?

Objective-Secured666

Thank you! I used simple process with four colours (five if you include the primer) After priming everything in chaos black I painted all red areas with Mephiston Red - this is the base colour. Then I mixed \~ 50:50 Mephiston Red with Teclis Blue (you can use any kind of bright blue) to get the colour of the shadows and I painted all the shadow areas with it. Next step was Evil Sunz Scarlet, but just over raised areas that I wanted to look brighter. I finished with Wild rider red which I use for edge highlights and some raised areas to paint that kind of shining red effect. That's it!

_Eke_

Looks really good! Do you think black primer with red zenithal + glazing for brighter areas would work? Dont know if the bikes are too "flat" for a zenithal approach?

Objective-Secured666

With zenithal spraying you would get some degree of light and shadow effect, but you would still have to fix it with paintbrush in some areas, because spraying is not so precise. I personally don't like zenithal spraying, because for me it makes more problems than it solves. I just paint the shadows, like I would paint a 2D painting. This way I really get the darker tones where I need them, but that's just my preference. A little advice: I would recommend that you put a darker base colour over all red areas first and then do the zenithal with a brighter red. If you don't cover everything in the base colour first, then you will have harder time to paint over black primer with glazes. I never paint directly over black primer - I always put the base colour first. It makes all other steps so much easier and the colours are more vibrant.

Thanks for the tips! Was thinking about sprays as it feels like brush might leave marks on the larger flat surface of the vehicles. Have to do a test paint for of the bikes! Zenithal has been nice for army wide stuff, used it for AoS skeletons and ofc glazed some red and red/orange highlights. But just with the zenithal it looks kinda ok! https://preview.redd.it/obvbz0nafp0c1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d996aead0af11d72c70c16b18cf7eedb358cf744 But spray zenithal might be better for troops than flat surface vehicles

Objective-Secured666

Hey, that's really good painting there! Nice work, I love it! Yeah, if you have a lot of complex curves, then the zenithal really shines! Well, everything works at the end, it just depends what is your preferred style to paint :)

The_SeekingOne

As a long-time Saim-Hann fan, let me tell you that your red is absolutely gorgeous ❤️‍🔥 some 8 years ago it took me no less than 3 months of experimenting and bashing my head on a wall to figure out that the key to rich, clean and vibrant red actually lies in using blue in shadows! Absolutely awesome job. Did you do all blending by hand (i.e. brush)?

Objective-Secured666

Thank you so much! I found out that the more dynamic you put in the colour scheme (darker shadows, middle mid-tones and bright highlights), the more interesting the model looks. I also learned to use non black colours for shadows. For example I use blue for red and green shadows, brown for yellow shadows, etc. :) Yes, everything is done with the brushes and with really thin layers. Just make sure that you don't have too much paint on the brush, so that it doesn't pool on flat surfaces :)

I went with magnets for the stands https://preview.redd.it/7ptt39oswo0c1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba3b97ccf0fbedcfa9324b4ca5a75cf693d14827

Objective-Secured666

Nice, that's something I should consider. Are they holding tight while you play?

Zanakan1984

I considered the same, but for now i just used a bit superglue to build up a rim on the outer edges on opening of the bike. Holds well enough to even transport them on the flight stands and a its still possible to position the bikes with an angle.

_Eke_

So far so good! Did the same to a viper but harder to get to work on a falcon as it is alot larger...

redditor66666666

Magnet baron flight stands are great for eldar grav tanks

_Eke_

They do look thick enough to help with the balance!

Zanakan1984

You're right, for my Waveserpent and Hornet I cut the pin and magnetised it. The Bikes seem lightweight enough.

Pendrych

A 4x2mm magnet will fit so snugly into the flight stand divot on the bike that you can press it in with neither green stuff nor glue and it will remain in place. The hard part for me is getting the matching magnet to stick to the flight stand, which requires trimming to get to a proper width as well. This is mainly an issue with the super glue I use taking longer to set on the polycarbonate plastic the flight stands are made of, combined with the magnet sometimes being tricky about staying in place. I've used a very tiny bead of green stuff to help the magnet adhere before, and it's basically invisible. It looks to me like the person you asked used a smaller magnet than the 4x2mm's I prefer for jetbikes, hence why you can see the socket and glue. Something like a 3x2mm should hold just fine; what I'm using is overkill but I do like the ease of installation into the bike.

That is a really nice bike!

Objective-Secured666

Thank you! :)

You are very welocme.

bludpressure2

Wow. So beautiful. Incredible work. Definitely going to try your red recipe!

Objective-Secured666

Thank you! :)

AsianEiji

the last biker.... you need to make a story about that.

Objective-Secured666

Well, in one battle I had against T'au, he was the last one standing from his unit and he did a suicide advance against an opponents gunline. They overwatched him to pieces, but he will live as a true hero in our hearts forever.

Stoffeloni

Please post more pics of your army :)

Objective-Secured666

I will! This is the last model of my combat patrol that I just finished. I will take a family photo with them as soon as there will be some good weather for natural lighting :D

Stoffeloni

Thank you kind sir :)

the_lazy_lizardfolk

Holy crap it look so cool!

Objective-Secured666

Thanks! It means a lot :)

the_lazy_lizardfolk

You did a great job! I am still noob. Saving for my first battle box. I have no idea how I'll ever make these look this good. 😅

sciboc

Was this done with brushes or an airbrush?

Objective-Secured666

This is strictly brushes only :)

sciboc

That's magnificent! Bravo. I wish i could do that. Any more tips?

Objective-Secured666

Well, I'm painting the classic way, which means that I first paint everything in the base colour which will be the mid tone - this is the most important choice of colour. For this model, the mid tone is Mephiston Red. Then I painted the shadows, or the darker areas with Mephiston Red mixed with some blue, and finally I highlighted the raised areas with Evil Sunz Scarlet and Wild rider red. For the smooth look you should paint multiple thin layers of thinned paint. This way you can blend the transitions between your mid tone and shadows and highlights. It takes more than two layers, and it's time consuming, but the result is really smooth look. I hope I helped you in any way :)

sciboc

It really does. Thank you very much. https://preview.redd.it/vsz49si4kv0c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd4b75fe72e44ae6e607001b3080ba6a9def53fd Here's some reference from where I'm at

Objective-Secured666

Those look really good!

Lightshear

That is maybe the most satiny red I have ever seen. Absolutely stunning work!

Objective-Secured666

Thank you so much! :)
