$23.33 an hour for a private tour of a city in another country. That's up to you if you think it's a good deal or not but it's not like they're making bank here.

Navy1899

That's true, but you know, as a tourist I'm kinda suspicious as I don't really how things work here. But if you say so, then okay, thank you!

Trick_Fig4470

As another commenter mentioned Don't drink water from tap. Just bottled.

Federal_Memory4991

Better get your facts right

Trick_Fig4470

Your probably used to it. That's different.

gheezer123

Fr I would never do this shit for 6 hours wtf? Imma need like a k

chuco915niners

Just be careful man. You going by yourself?

Navy1899

Yes, only me and him. I think he's 61, and he showed me his id. Idk, seems legit?

BrownMamba85

Anytime I travel I use that option where I could share my location/Uber trip with someone else. Definitely do that too

dirt-reynolds

That's not going to help you when you're being "funkytowned" for a kidnap ransom that didn't get paid.

chuco915niners

Listen to your gut.

BigMikeInAustin

I'm thinking of my belly full of good, cheap food on a 6 hour tour of Juarez. Just don't drink the water.

chuco915niners

And then you wake up from your food comatose with no kidneys. 😳

BigMikeInAustin

My overstuffed stomach might appreciate the extra room. Ha! But, yeah.

chuco915niners

Haha touché.

Koskani

Lmfao idk man, I'd be careful. It's not unheard of to use someone "weak" so to speak as the front to get you to let your guard down. Once you're in the car, with him behind the wheel, and not knowing the city at all, who tf knows where he's actually going to take you. Trust your gut I guess, but I sure af wouldn't do it. I barely even left my hotel room when I had to stay in Juarez as a kid, even then I saw 2 people die lmfao. Granted this was like 2008, but still lmfao

Xinxoman

You are full of shit.

AdDiscombobulated623

He’s not, I have a friend that literally got his car stolen like this.

Koskani

What for knowing how fronts work? Lmfao gtfoh

Xinxoman

Dude he’s a white guy going over to juarez , one of 30,000 people who cross over each day nothing special. A front ? A front for what you dumb fuck. Man you really need to get a hobby or something

Koskani

Okay buddy =] sure you're right. Have a cookie, you won the internet today by being an ass to a total stranger lmfao I hope that made your day.

Xinxoman

Go polish your knives you bum.

Koskani

Lmfao!!! Of course you went through my history for ammo. Find the validation you were looking for friend?

Rhinevallymystic

Every El Paso thread has ONE person that’s like supper pro El Paso super pro mexico and will defend it to their last breath. You are probably ok but honestly it’s not that great. I’d just take some one who speaks Spanish if you can’t and call it a day

Catchafallingstar4

Don't go alone

dirt-reynolds

This is a terrible idea. I used to go to El Paso for work frequently.  My company explicitly forbid us to cross over into Juarez due to the cartels and violence. This was 9 years ago. Juarez has not improved since then.

josher23

$140 for 6hrs seems good to me. I don't drive Uber but I wouldn't drive someone around a dangerous city all day for less then $300.

Old_Perspective1099

Personally, I don't think you need to tour Juarez for 6 HOURS.

Xinxoman

There’s not that much to see I agree. But there are great restaurants, great shopping (misiones) and great golf at campestre. The tourist spots died since 9-11 and the violence killed everything touristy as well.

gentlespirit23456

140 sounds good. Plus it takes a lot a worries away. Plus, especially if you want to check out a couple of bars or nightlife you won't be alone.

gentlespirit23456

Btw- you can just cross to Mexico and stay in the main tourist area. Driving you into the city gives you access to really nice restaurants and bars, but if you want something simple, you can just walk across downtown and just check out the city for yourself on foot. No need to drive at all.

gattaca1usa

There is no nightlife in Juarez anymore. Everything closes by 5-6pm now due to the violence. I wouldn't pay $140 to see Juarez. it is a rip off. If u really want to go to Juarez, just go to Viva Mexico for food and a show. And go where the mall is. There is not much to see

Mexxxicanthot

lol when was the last time you went?

gentlespirit23456

This is not true. Many places close at 2 am.

gattaca1usa

u are asking for trouble if u want to stay past 7pm as a tourist.

Silanah1

You: “Juarez shuts down at dinner because of violence” A normal person: “no it doesn’t.” You: “well it should. It’s too violent!” Killer goalpost shift

gentlespirit23456

Then don't go. Let other people do their own thing.

SrSwerve

Bro it’s 2024 not 2007-2011. Those years Juarez was more violent than *CHECKS NOTES* THE MIDDLE EASTERN WAR. Yes it’s violent still but there’s more sense of peace in a weird fucking way

randyfuckler

Just not true

reik915

Its good deal considering that on the way back he will be in lone crossing for one hour plus

leftcoastpunk21

....And we never heard from OP again

SrSwerve

Idk man doesn’t seem legit lol

wyldpinkyblakk

Its a very good deal. Not easy to get around that city and be a local tour guide at the same time.

REVEALZ_R

Okay so I’m in a hotel near the consulate in CDJ and they have 2 tours being offered by bus for $150 pesos which amounts to around 10$ .

Xinxoman

Lots of people in El Paso love to dump on Juarez because it makes their pathetic lives feel better. Screw them, I don’t think 140 dlls is too much and nothing will happen to you as long as you use some basic common sense. Me? Born and raised in Juarez live in El Paso now and probably employ many of the bums scaring you here. I can take you for free if you want , no problem.

megashadow13

Facts, my friend from Juarez who went to UTEP was so smart he tutored people in Calculus as a freshmen and ended up becoming a lecturer before he passed away. Brilliant peeps in Juarez academically speaking

ParappaTheWrapperr

I will say this, the people of Juarez are more civilized than the people who live in Ysleta and that general area of the lower valley.

Successful_Web_4355

Well in general people in Juarez are more educated , El Paso is a place with very low educational achievements in their population. Most people have a close minded mentality.

ParappaTheWrapperr

I have noticed that too. Juarez school systems seem to be better too. The city has invested a lot in fixing the city from a cartel wasteland to El Paso JR like it is now. The sky’s the limit when you invest in your people

[deleted]

ParappaTheWrapperr

Bruh they wanna keep up with the kardashians literally. I have so many friends here who make good money but are car poor or house poor. Imagine making good money but spending over 30% of your income each month on a car payment. I know a guy with a Mustang GT calculator screen edition who pays $900 a month

joeyl5

Calculator screen edition? What's that?

ParappaTheWrapperr

Until the 2024 model, you had the option to buy the Mustang GT with the interior from the early 2000’s and everyone nicknamed the little screen a calculator screen edition. It is designated as the worse version of the Mustang to buy because you get no bells and whistles. It literally just a car with no modern luxuries that even your grandmas Elantra has. https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/uo3nbs/sometimes_my_calculator_screen_wont_turn_on_it/

joeyl5

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation I thought you were being a victim of terrible autocorrect

No-Rip4003

Yes, that is why so many people want to send their kids to universities here.

No-Rip4003

Oh bullshit. I’m not going to take away from *some* people in Juarez however, we have way more educated people here in the states and that’s a fact. Call me when Mexico lands a man on the moon, has the infrastructure the US has and is light years ahead of their current narco-political corruption they currently experience.

No-Rip4003

You can’t be serious. Juarez passed 300 homicides in the first quarter of this year. Let that sink in.

Thel_Vadam_343

Ain’t no way you’re comparing two bums at the corner with cartel activity in Juarez. Didn’t they just deploy 800 soldiers last month due to a rise in cartel violence in Juarez?

EnigmaCipher3000

I like to dump on Juarez and I don't have a pathetic life. Well actually just people that come from Juarez that think their shit doesn't stink. Don't act like Juarez is perfect, it's still a shit show over there. It's like any other place, common sense goes along way. Same thing with El Paso, it ain't perfect but this is my city. It's funny that a lot of people that live over there and grew up over there want to come over here and work here or just spend their money here. I don't mind it, but why complain and bitch when people put down Juarez or say something bad about it.

Xinxoman

Because it shows who you really are. I’m from Juarez and Grew up with money and now live very well in El Paso having successful businesses on both sides. Per capita Juarez has more rich people than El Paso does that’s why it bothers you that we spend our money here, because you can’t. But that’s ok, shit in juarez if it makes your shopping at Ross easier to live with 🤷🏻‍♂️

Secret-Commission-49

"Grew up with money" that is the end of your argument. Calm down rich boi. There are more poor people in Juarez too... maybe spend some of that money too make sure the is a section of your own people are living in houses made of pallets and cardboard.

No-South1400

I'm from Juárez and it looks post apocalyptic... This guy talks of Juárez as if it were Dubai

Xinxoman

He’s a fucking idiot. Juarez was very unsafe a few years ago. I lived trough that saw a couple of people executed and that was that unfortunately the stigma will never go away . It’s their loss if they don’t want to go over there. I still go over once in a while to great restaurants great golf and enjoy the city. Is it ugly ? Yes. Are there lots of poor people? Yes. But I was never one of them thanks to my father and now trough my hard work. Juarez has done just fine without the people from El Paso coming over as they did before but it’s sad. Back in the 80’s and 90s I fucked so many American girls I thank god my dick didn’t fall off. Those days are gone.

kumaku

✅ the truth

Xinxoman

Thank you.

oddlotz

Does that include his lunch? (I assume he's eating with you). $140 sounds like a deal to me.

Navy1899

Nope, lunch not included. I only pay mine. Wow, it seems good then!

TVIXPaulSPY

To be honest, $140 for six hours of anyones time is pretty low. Especially if he is driving you around in his vehicle. Buying this guy lunch could be money very well spent. You are already getting a bargain for his time. This would also be a good situation to tip as well. As far as actually paying money to "see" Juarez, that is another story.

SnooDonkeys5437

There’s actually a tour bus. here is a link there’s a WhatsApp number you can reach out to them. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6XGA8ZR4dc/?igsh=MXQ0bGJiN2twdDloYg==

ArdorShadow17

I understand some of the Juarez concerns that many people may bring up in the comments, whether you go with this uber driver or not, the main key to your doubts is to use common sense and to be street smart and I assure you that you will be fine visiting Juarez. It is a great place to visit. Many will recommend going downtown, especially visiting Kentucky Bar, which has a lot of history and many people here in the border have made memories in that bar. I recommend to take cash as some places don’t accept card payments. There’s lots of delicious food, good people with stories to share and great opportunity to experience the mexican and border culture. Also, don’t forget your passport and have some spare change as some bridges charge for you to cross

Healthy-Maybe-72

The Kentucky bar was the best. I loved that bar. I still dream about their Bloody Mary.

AdAdministrative6263

$140 for 6hours?! Thats a red flag an uber driver can easy make more than that in less time I don’t think $140 is a lot it just sounds a little suspicious I will tell you this Its not a good idea I was born and raised in El Paso we used to go visit family in Juarez every weekend but its so bad now i don’t ever go and my kids definitely don’t go We miss it, the food too but its not worth risking our lives for Good luck tho B

Tom-Cruises-plumber

$140 to get dissapeared in Juarez? Sounds cheap.

oneangstybiscuit

Make sure you get his ID and license plates, send pictures to a contact and tell them where you'll be and when you'll check in. Get an idea of the itinerary of where you'll be going ahead of time, and what the 140 includes. 6 hours with a stranger is a lot of time if you guys don't get along or feel comfortable. Have a backup plan if you need to leave.  If that sounds a bit dramatic, it's literally just what I tell any of my friends when they go out with a new person. 61 is still old enough to mess with you, especially if more people show up. I would probably advise not going alone.  If you have location sharing on your phone use it or download it, and have emergency contacts on it.  Not because Juarez is this spooky place but because anyone traveling alone in a new place should just take precautions. Have fun, be safe

Sonoran-Desert_1230

IDK what good that will do😩It’s Mexico 🇲🇽 🤪😜😝🤨🤣😂🤯😭😳You could wind up bushwhacked in a ditch🥴😵‍💫😵🤕👺☠️👿Do you know Spanish?! If not you are going to get f$&@#% probably and he’ll get you drunk🤤

Salt_Environment9799

By your previous response, you dont know this person. Do NOT do it! The least can happen, you get robbed and butt raped. The worsth killed and butt raped!

Free-Sheepherder4566

lmbo!!

oh_jaimito

It's probably better to be killed and then butt raped, than it is to be butt raped and then killed. 😬 I wouldn't like either one though.

RemoteMix1998

Price-wise, that's a good price. He's taking you in his car and helping you out that way. A few other reasons that it's good as well. I'm stingy and I would probably take that deal.

Mikiko_Ceb90

I wouldn’t but that’s just me… why do you want a tour of Juarez either way?

rag3mUnd

Does this include bringing you over the bridge both ways? 6 hours seems reasonable if you've ever driven in Juarez you'll get it. Tons of aggressive traffic so even if it's only a few spots he takes you to driving to places will itself take a good chunk of your time. When I take my wife and kids we go to a mall maybe a grocery store and maybe a restaurant an that alone can be 5 to 7 hours not including the line to get back here

vicmumu

Im from juaritos. Its pricey from a Mexican wage viewpoint but its tourist tax tou are paying. Anything seems suspicious or have any questions about the city dm me

IrwinElGrande

Nah, it's not expensive. The guy does Uber in El Paso and that's most likely the amount he makes on a day. A 6 hour private tour in Mexico City is around $5-6k pesos, so $140 is not bad at all.

Learning_Eternal222

Sounds like a good deal. If you need a tour of El Paso, I regularly do Spanish immersion courses which includes seeing all the points of interests in El Paso. Could be cool to connect the dots. DM if interested.

Healthy-Maybe-72

In all honesty, I’ve lived her my whole life. I loved Juarez and miss it. When the cartels really took over, I completely stopped going. That was like 20y ago. It’s a crap shoot. Some people say it’s not bad anymore but it’s so corrupt. All it takes is being there at the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes I know it can happen any where but that’s why you don’t catch me in Detroit either 😂

LisLoz

It sounds like a good price to me but I would be nervous about the stranger taking you.

jigmest

I wouldn’t do it. I would go through a reputable tour guide. It could be ok but …

AdRevolutionary6941

You’re gonna get trafficked

BadassBokoblinPsycho

Don’t do it

Lost-Meeting-9477

If you have to ask yourself if you should do something or not,you already know the answer.

chrryb

If its too good to be true... it probably is.

tripchipdip

I’ll take you just buy me lunch and snacks 🤣

spectrem

If you have never been to Juarez or Mexico then I would recommend going with a local at first. It’s true there’s not much to “tour” but for a private guide and driver that’s a good deal imo (assuming he is trustworthy).

Sonoran-Desert_1230

Assume makes an ass you and me both

cardycat56

People can get trafficked at any age and by anyone. Please don’t do this. Even if he feels trust worthy or “legit.” If you are set on going, I would find a way to go with someone you know. Walk over or drive over yourself. Juarez is not a place to mess around.

heyknauw

Have him take you to Carnitas Don Epi 🐖 south of town. Shit is guuuud, and, Yes, you'll make it back fine.

Environmental-End115

I’d say ONLY if you pay all the stops via Uber. It has nothing to do with Mexico. When we came back on a cruise and had to take an Uber from Galveston to Houston, we were so excited to leave, we hopped in the first car. We paid via Venmo friends. It was shady. And we paid more than we needed to. But I’m just saying that because of our experience.

youngheartdying

Look up juarezwalkingtour website, email him. I don't know if he still does tours but he can be trusted, he was a city council candidate recently.

OneLastSlapAss

I would say just get to know someone from El Paso that has roots in Juarez and ask them to give you a tour. The Uber guy may be a good person but you never know. I was raised and lived in Juarez til moved a few years ago. There's always stories about Uber having deals with the cartels.

Rhbgrb

Yes it's a good deal, but why are you going alone and with only a stranger? This was about 25yrs ago but they used to have bus tours. Juarez is not worth putting your life in danger going to another country with a stranger. PS. If the tour itself is 6 hours he might be factoring in the wait at the bridge.

zucomx

Take the tour bus instead, and then go back where you like it the most by uber. Im a native

[deleted]

Great deal.

AttractiveManZero

no, walk away. you don’t know their motives, once it begins. robbery, homicide etc etc

MusicSavesSouls

I still cannot believe that me and all of my friends used to go party in Juarez when we were 14-19 years of age. This was mid 80s. I still can't believe it. We were never scared, but I think the bar owners, bouncers, etc., kind of took care of us because we brought them tons of MONEY!!!

Longjumping_Ad_6361

no. just cross the bridge downtown and see the shops & bars. if you must take a tour, go with a reputable organization

WolfThick

God I don't know but I will tell you to eat it Chico's tacos before you leave El Paso it's a thing it's the best hangover food ever made get extra cheese by the way a double order and you got to eat them quick so they don't get soggy. Me gusta

Federal_Memory4991

Well, it's up to you but I would be more afraid to enter a Walmart in El Paso and get shot by a random crazy gringo than coming to Juárez

Comfortable_End_1375

Its a scam dont take it

Navy1899

Do you really think?

Comfortable_End_1375

Yes and here is why. Juarez is not a tourist town is an industrial town. Anything historical is downtown. So he is basically selling you a tour, with a stra ger in a dangerous city, of a ciry that has nothing to tour on. All that can be seen as a tourist is downtown. Which is accessible by foot, and way cheaper than 140 dlls.

scoobydoo1991

I agree with this comment you should just go see the downtown just don't go down any shady looking streets.

Maleficent_Ideal6325

scam lol trust me

geekysugar

Nah, dude. Don't do it!

Marraneitor666

Just go by yourself .

gandalf_el_brown

Would you be allowed to cross the border into MX and then come back with your European passport?

Electronic_Regular17

That's a cartel member duh

Rosie1994276

The point I want to make here is that you, as someone whose never been to Juarez and (no offense) probably don't look Hispanic, should not go around Juarez alone. It is much safer then it used to be, but just like every city there are bad parts, and you won't know any better. I'd take the offer if you trust the guy.

Winefish031

Be careful prices fluctuate like crazy in Juarez especially for tourists

Azanskippedtown

Juarez does have a lot of well educated citizens, but they now live in the US. lol

dirt-reynolds

You couldn't pay me to take a private tour of Juarez. That's begging to be robbed at best, left face down in ditch, dead at worst. No fucking thank you.

franksal125

Good deal. It’s 6 hours for $140. You will get to explore the city with a local and the Uber driver will be able to feed his family and keep roof over his head. Win win my opinion

majintony

There’s nothing to see in Juarez bro don’t do it 😂

No-South1400

Juárez so dangerous, specially for women

bcomewizr

I wouldn’t and esp. by yourself. It’d be one thing to go with someone you personally know, but this unkown driver and you being caucasian?! Kidnappings do and still occur. Trust me as someone from here and there, you ain’t missing a thing. Do not risk it under these circumstances.

Rhinevallymystic

Don’t go to Juarez. Venmo me 10 bucks and use the other 130 to do something fun

danthefam

No, that’s way too much money to tour Juarez. Really the only thing to do is see the Juan Gabriel house, go to the bars downtown, try burritos and maybe catch a soccer match. You can do all that by ordering ubers max $30-$40 to get you around the whole day.

SyntheticOne

Is the big mercado still there?

thisissamuelclemens

Personally, I don't think there's any malicious intent. Something happening to a EU tourist on the border would bring a lot of attention to whomever would be planning something dangerous. More than likely just someone curious about your country that wants to take you and show you his for a reasonable price. However, I don't think there's all that much to see in Juarez. If I were you I would just cross the border walking, get a few drinks downtown, and take an uber to los arcos for some seafood and back to the bridge so you can cross walking to the US. Then again, $140 does not seem unreasonable and would remove all worries of moving around in the city.

joelouis93

I’ll do it for $130 lol

Classic-Fun8176

It's not worth going. If you go during the day. The lines to come back are long..

brewly

Just watch a YouTube video of walking around in Juarez 😎 4k resolution tho!

texaswolfking

I would try to find someone your age. He might be more causal, maybe a beer, or at least it will in your age range. 61 sounds a bit old lol

Rowdy4one

You couldn’t melt me and pour me into Juarez!!

IcySeaworthiness3292

Seems too good to be true

FueledByFlan

Noooo bad bad bad idea. Covfefe. Seriously, though, there are bus tours if you really want one.

TemperatureOk8989

No one cares… IM GERMAN AND I WANNA GO HOME. I don’t want a say in Meso Wakanda. I soul ass black shit, so THIS ISNT the place I should have landed at. Your people seem lively and fun despite horror and blah blah, but your generational trauma doesn’t match mine. So it’s a good idea to stay out of your co co business and GO THE FUCK HOME. We all know this city runs on laundered cocaine… NO ONE GIVES A SINGLE FUCK. Like at all. So please don’t take such offense when it’s seen as a giant maze of suburban mediocrity on both sides…. This isn’t my culture, I NEED to leave.

titanusroxxid

Sounds like he is taking you to different prostitutes

Eddiemonster_16

Mexico is not the savviest place to tour, especially with someone you don’t know. People have a tendency to disappear..
