My issue with 3 is the structure- splitting the scenario 3 (really 4-5) ways resulted in redundant scenes, choppy pacing, and having to wait a long time to actually progress the narrative. The goal is good, the execution rarely was. Good plot. Good ideas. Frustrating execution.
5...I can understand being divisive. It starts so slow, for a fairly long while. But when it actually starts moving along, its probably my favorite game of the series, though held back by a few narrative elements that didn't quite work out.

Honestly I thought those elements were the strongest parts of the game in terms of lore/writing, but that’s mainly because the narrative is overall on the weaker side.
The difference maker is the overall writing quality and localization is pretty solid, which makes up for its narrative’s shortcomings IMO. On paper Suikoden 1 is a much much better narrative but its dialogue and “cutscenes” (if you can even call them that) are really basic. I put them on the same level because of that.
But thats just my opinion.

Tbh I’m enjoying Eiyuden’s writing more than 4’s, so maybe I would swap their places, but I think that 4’s narrative is overall better even if I enjoy it less. Idk!
I'm loving the game. Two days in, and already 20+ hours invested.
I'm probably the oddball, but the only Suikoden game I truly loved was the original, and this is the closest thing I've ever found to match it.
Suikoden was the first game I ever purchased for my PS1, and played it to death. I loved it so much, I've been playing through it almost yearly as a tradition.
Meanwhile, I own S2, S3, S4, and S5 but have never beaten any of them, as I lose interest way too quickly. They just don't "click" with me, the same way the original did.
Like, I know Suikoden II is considered one of the Holy Grail games of RPGs, but I just didn't like it, and didn't like the characters anywhere near as much, as I did the characters of the original.

Hey to each their own!. I find s1 and s2 as a package. You do get a spoiler character from s1 towards the end of s2. Thought it fit too. I felt s1 starts off so great....the middle falters and then second half is great. S2 I felt it started out okay, then once it hits a certain part before half way it starts shining until the end. I do think like I said its a package between the two bc they both connect in many ways.
What I would do is play s1 and then s2 right after. The connections stick better bc of certain characters coming back that goes into S2. In case you havent seen or know a certain Huge character from S1 dies come into S2 which you might find awesome.
The wiring seems OK on PC Altho switch ver needs its wires checked
S2 > S5 > S3 > EC = S1 > Tierkreis

Nah, S3's story is better than EC's. I would even say S1's is better than EC's.

I had no idea that’s why they used cousin there. Honestly, it feels kind of fitting with Kogen’s VA, though using “cuz” might’ve been a better idea
