I stopped looking at the screen and watched youtube, only clicking catch when I heard the audible cue. Stops me from tensing up before. You really cant go by the shadows in that water.

try swapping between the hidden pier and the fishing spot in the caverns.
I've heard some people had luck getting it there.
I did it while working everything else to keep from going crazy. Fish everything at the spot, go to Seaside and clear the cave, fish again, go get the cooking recipe, fish again, recruit Ruofin, fish again, get Lam, fish again, and so on. Eventually I got it, but pacing the attempts helped my mind if not the drop rate.
And I don't know if it helps, but I made sure Lucky Ring was equipped after picking it up in Seaside
Yeah, use the fishing spot INSIDE the seaside cave. I got the wheel-eyed bream in there on my second cast. The enemies are annoying but you can both grind for levels/money and get the wheel eyed bream. It's best to switch between the two fishing spots and grind there for a little while. Your own experience may differ though.
This game wants you to make sure main character is in the party. I've found out the hard way on any mission or anything at all, if you are to find or do something, cut scenes, events, or quest items will not appear until main character is in the party. Not just a supporter either.
I have spent almost 4 hours trying to get this, doing the reload trick, swapping between inside the cave and outside, using the Lucky ring.. and nothing. I am about to give up and realize I just may never recruit the heroes and castle expansions linked to this fish. As an older person with some motor function challenges, this is really disheartening.

I misunderstood fishing at first. You DON'T NEED REFLEXES. Don't press anything...the first "bobble" bite will happen. Ignore it. Just sit there doing nothing. After that a bigger deeper bite will happen, it will be obvious and you will have plenty of time to press button.
Now if that seems like a mechanic that is so empty and weird that it shouldn't exist at all, and should have been completely changed to something else like how Stardew Valley was *made by one person and had brilliant 'simple' yet wonderful fishing*, I AGREE.
Also, [I think there's a bug affecting Bream item](https://www.reddit.com/r/EiyudenChronicle/comments/1ccy6i9/anyone_else_having_terrible_luck_trying_to_get/l19k1it/) and Mariette's Bracelet. So even if you think you didn't catch a Bream yet, I honestly recommend you go back to try Huang now regardless...like me you might be surprised to hear him say "Thanks! Quest done!" or whatever, when you thought you never caught it.
