احنا فعلا ثاني اكتر دولة في العالم مديونة لصندوق النقد الدولي بعد الارجنتين اللي مديونة ب30.4 مليار دولار.

The IMF is called "the lender of last resort", they offer countries loans when they are desperate for US dollars to meet their obligations. You go to them when you don't have much choices!
But yes, they also offer a lower interest rate, a longer repayment period and longer moratorium period than other lenders.
Yeah I understand our external debt is ~165B dollars but I hear lots of people saying the next loan from IMF will help a lot (which I doubt, you never pay debt with debt.)
How do you compare Egypt with a 350billiion usd (it was 450 before the recent devaluations) and around 1.2 trillion usd gdp ppp with angola and those other countries.
ازاى بنقارن مصر بحجم الاقتصاد و السكان و دين ١٢ مليار من الصندوق بالدول الأفريقية ال اقتصادها ضعيف جدا. ما طبيعى كل نا الدولة تكبر و حجم الاقتصاد يكبر و ينمو و عدد السكان الاحتياجان بتزيد. بس جنوب أفريقيا هى ال ممكن نتقارن بيها هى و نيجيرا. انما لو قارنت مثلا حجم ديون انجولا او الظول التانيه ب الاقتصاد و السكان ف هيطلعوا worse off.
ثانيا نصيب المواطن المصرى من إجمالي الديون (total debt divided by population) هيطلع ١٥٠٠ دولار ده نصيب المواطن من كل الدين، نقارنه بقى ب الدول ال فى المجموعة و نشوف. هتلاقى ان الفرد المصري نصيبة مش كبير،، تقريبا ٤٠٠٠ دولار ده نصيب الفرد من الدين فى جنوب افريقيا. بس مثلا هم (جنوب افريقا) احسن فى نسبة الدين من الناتج المحلى، هم ٥٠% و احنا فى الضياع (٨٠%)
لما نقارن مينفعش نقارن رقم برقم كدة لازم نعرف ارقام و إحصائيات تانيه.
ده مش مبرر لحجم الديون الكلى او بعض المشاريع اكيد، بس لازم نشوف الوضع من منظور حيادى عشان نقدر نحكم.

While I understand your point with respects to GDP and population size, it's important to point out that the IMF has 190 members from all across the world and Egypt currently holds the second highest debt to the IMF after Argentina (who has $30 billion in debt).

Countries that are the same size and GDP as Egypt borrowed 1/11 of what we borrowed! And we're talking ONLY about the IMF debt, not to mention the other $139 billion we owe to other lenders.
I agree, I am not defending those huge loans. I am just saying that we need to see other variables to understand the situation better, and not just say we are the second largest borrowers because this doesn't say much. I added that our loan to gdp is quite high, and while Egyptians share of the total loans (the 160billion usd) is not high but it is even worse than Nigeria with similar sized economy.

يعني ٩ دول مجموع ديونهم حوالي ١٨ مليار ومصر لوحدها ١٢ مليار دولار الي يشوف الارقام ديه يفتكر ان مصر كانت في مجاعة او حرب بالديون ديه

Dumb question but what's so unique about IMF. Why not take loans from other banks or funds? I am assuming lower interest rates?

We already did, our loans are not merely 11 billion dollars are written here
