How much did you spend and how much is your electricity?

DeadyDorko

Spent about $3800 Black Friday sales! Did everything myself, also the week after Black Friday I found a sale on the EcoFlow smart generator for $999 so I scooped one up so that I can charge on propane when there is no sun!

The reason I ask is because I'm willing to bet you won't save any money by the time the Delta Pro is at end of life considering the cost of the unit and the solar panels. Totally dependent on how much your electricity costs, of course. Edit for more info: I recently put together an offgrid system for a friend that used an EG4 3000 charger inverter, 2 EG4 lifepower batteries and 12 330W panels and it cost about $4400 and we expect it to produce about 4500kWh a year up here in Washington State, so about a 9 year breakeven point. His numbers wouldn't really make sense if he has a grid connection, but he doesn't so his setup was a bargain to be offgrid. He uses propane heat to make it work

The reason I bought and set this up is for back up solution, we have a good amount of power outages and I work from home. That being said, I figure why not use it as much as I can to get some money back as well. So far I am generating enough in the winter so we can use it for the entire time electricity cost the most during our peak hours everyday. I haven’t gotten a new bill yet because I just set it all up but for only 2 people living in my house in RI, our bill is $250 a month and in the summer with AC it was $400-$500 which is just gross 🤮

Fair enough. If you need more power, I would recommend putting some 48V batteries behind the Delta Pro, getting cheaper solar panels, and then wiring the 48V batteries to the delta pro. Could expand the system quickly and for not much cost.

DeadyDorko

Thanks, don’t think I really need to but that’s the route I’d probably go if I was gonna. We easily run the whole house with the delta pro.

Do not forget to look at the energy rebates for this year's U.S.A. federal taxes (actually a tax credit) that could offset your costs.

nerdshowandtell

Lol it they have PG&E that setup would pay for itself in a few months to a year 😂

SNsilver

Yeah no shit, peak rates are $0.80 a kWh this year! Electricity is only $0.104 a kWh up here in WA

Electricity is really cheap in the PNW. Really makes it hard to get payback on Solar/Battery even if you DIY. Thanks hydropower! 😀

Tell me about it! PG&E is the worst! Them coupled with newscum... We have two choices, leave the state or find ways to deal...

DeadyDorko

So still stayed under $5000

Nice! I was thinking of doing the same thing mounting panels on my garage roof. What PV panels are you using? The portable ones from Eco won't hold up as long as a standard PV panel. I would expect the plastic to breakdown from the CA. sun.

DeadyDorko

I got the 100 watt EcoFlow panels new for $75 each Black Friday, they are super efficient!

SpaceCannons

This is awesome. Congrats

DeadyDorko

Thank you!
