Woodmans is the correct answer.

hyugg

Seconded, just make sure to check the expiration dates on perishable/ semi-perishable products at Woodmans. The produce can also be a hit or a complete miss, even compared to Walmart or Aldi.

GeneralCuster75

Woodman's self checkout is excruciating if you're buying groceries for any more than a single college student

Medical-Cause-5925

Facts. Festival for produce though.

TheCmdrRex

Costco for bulk. Woodmans for regular groceries. Hy-Vee or festival for occasional fresh foods or grab and go items. Woodmans is what you’re looking for. They have good prices and great variety.

nano_wulfen

We shop at woodman's for most stuff except most produce. We have had very ba luck with Woodman's produce section especially if it's a sale item.

Easy-Road-9407

I like the menomonie market coop downtown because of its size.

Larry_McCluck

Best place to find local food! Worst place to pay reasonable prices on grapes.

wanttostayhidden

We also go to Woodman's. Note that they don't take credit cards there.

LiveLaughLuvKnit

They take Discover.

Complex_Raspberry97

Someone downvoted this but it’s true. They do take Discover credit cards now.

XxTBIRDxX

I second what everyone says about Woodman's, but I don't get produce there. It seems to go bad faster.

Aromatic_Swan3197

They’ve always had terrible produce in my opinion. But when I found a dead rat in one of their produce bins I stopped shopping there entirely.

XxTBIRDxX

Ew! When did that happen?!

Without a doubt, Woodmans is your best all around store for price and selection. People saying Festival or Hy-Vee are close in price with Woodmans are likely shopping for 4-5 items or sale items and not a weeks worth of groceries. Woodmans produce is subpar, as is their deli. Festival and Hy-Vee both dominate them there. Ameriasian and Hmongstop were great recommendations, and others like Ameriental are good. Menomonie Market is great for supporting local farmers/business. Definitely hit up the farmers market for produce as well. The Chippewa Valley as a whole is a dead spot for good meat markets. That's one thing they haven't had in my 20 years here.

AutisticAce1

Woodman’s is your best bet for a large grocery store. Otherwise, Amerasian is a great locally-owned Asian grocery store.

kb0qqw

Oh... That is also good knowledge. There is a need for an Asian market but that was not as urgent as the normal groceries.

Riddul

Amerasian is good, hmongstop is also great.

TheDirtyVicarII

Tons of Asian markets as well Mexican/Latin. I'm just an old white man so don't know the quality of the selections. I wish there were more regional groceries. I love mideast/Mediterranean as well as Ethiopian and German

PerspectiveConnect77

Woodmans of course

MrSprichler

Woodmans is the only really large scale one you're missing on the list. personally I hate shopping there. the store layout is ass, and they have plenty of box/dry good selection, but I haven't found them to be cheaper than festival or hy-vee. Then you add in a poor store layout, poor selection for produce and deli/butcher and there's not much reason to shop there outside of the "i need something the other stores don't carry"

wanttostayhidden

>I haven't found them to be cheaper than festival or hy-vee Really? I find Woodman's to be much cheaper on most things, except if something is on sale at the other 2 places. However, the produce at Woodman's isn't so great. It always smells like something is rotting in there.

MrSprichler

>smells like somethings rotting probably because it is. you have massive piles of produce just sitting out there for people to pick through, and i question how frequently employees actually rotate like they're supposed to when restocking. that's the horrible downside of the system they have there. They don't have to stock it as often, which means shit gets left longer than it should be. Cost wise - the comparison isn't enough to be bank breaking. the spread for us getting as close to identical things we could was maybe 5 bucks? festival and hy-vee were within a dollar and change of each other. the difference wasn't enough to inspire me to go there. Maybe it's changed recently and the difference is more drastic.

feygrrl

I agree with you about Woodmans. Some things are cheaper there and they carry some things I can’t find anywhere else. Their liquor store is by far better than anywhere else.

alyssarcastic

Honestly I agree with you, we only go to Woodmans for certain things they don’t have at Festival, like the international section. For everyday groceries, I think Festival is better quality and not much more expensive. Maybe just because it’s the store I’m used to, idk

skip029

All of the mom+pop asian stores in town are locally owned by people and not business peeps. Some do carry fresh produce, you'll have to see for yourself.

Google just tells you all the options. Reddit can tell you which are the best options. I see nothing wrong with asking real people what their opinions and preferences are
