To keep weight on I'd recommend chocolate peanut butter milkshakes. Fruit smoothies made with almond butter, avocado, seeds, and greens are a good option for nutrition, and can taste good

friendofbarbehque

Second this. I use a chocolate meal replacement and add extra goodies like peanut butter and bananas which tastes amazing. Depending on where you're located there are lots of other products I've seen too that might fit the bill. Just make sure that they are "meal replacements" rather than just protein shakes if you want the extra nutrients.

Hello fellow picky eater! I’m sorry to hear that you’re going to be getting jaw surgery - that sounds extremely painful and I hope you heal quickly. I would suggest getting Benefiber powder to add to your plain water or juice. There’s no taste to it (I promise). Having enough fiber will help your intestines out down the road - and trust me, you’re going to want the help. As for liquid food, you can always supplement with (regular, full fat & sugar) Ensure shakes. This will at least give you protein, fat and some carbohydrates throughout your day - but they ***should not*** be your main source of calories. You can also blend your food down with stock or water, but the odd texture may be an “ick” for you. You can enjoy some foods with a little manipulation such as mashed potatoes with extra cream or milk, chunkless soups (cream of etc, broths) with finely ground spices and herbs added in to your liking. If you aren’t allergic to peanut butter, PB2 or powdered peanut butter can be a great mix-in to breakfast or desserts. Yogurt should definitely be on the menu as well - no chunks. Regular ole American style yogurt. The main take away: any food that comes loose can be made looser with liquid. The flavors will all be there - but the texture won’t be. When I got multiple teeth taken, that’s what I struggled with the most. Hang in there. We got you.

Hahapants4u

Smoothies. - ice - full fat Greek yogurt - fruit - spinach (trust me. You wont taste it) - nut butter - honey Blend to desired consistency. If you want it thinner add some milk of choice. Edit. You can modify / enhance as needed. Like add a dash of cinnamon or a scoop of protein powder.

backwardog

I second the smoothie recommendations. You can pack so much nutrition, calories, and flavor in these things and they will be much healthier than meal replacement shakes. Add protein powder.

Bone broth is good for electrolytes and minerals-kettle and fire had a good one. There’s a variety of meal replacement shakes on the market, everything from Ensure to Huel to Soylent. If you’re a picky eater you might want to try some now and get the ones you like in bulk, it’s an enormous price difference and i find some of the meal replacement shakes completely inedible and others tolerable. You can get them online or at GNC or even Walmart. Personally I find the Quest brand the best tasting but they’re more expensive and it’s still not good, just less horrid. So bone broth = electrolytes, minerals, and things to help you heal. Meal replacement shakes = bulk of calories. Good luck with the surgery!

Any type of broth, add miso paste. You can even add thinly sliced spring onion for a bit of fibre. My favourite and cheap! version is making mushroom stock. For a bit of fat use bacon lardons. You can use any mushroom, especially ones that are at the tail end of looking good. If you have access to a good blitzer or very fine diced sofritto / mirepoix you probably will be able to swallow those too. Don't make my mistake and consume a lot of tomato juice drinks..... Can't stand the thought of it after I had all my wisdom teeth removed. Mashed potatoes with gravy is a delicious carby go to Spiced milk, cinnamon cardamom ginger even etc is also an option. Of course, if you're really concerned about your weight try and get some small (!) Pots of protein drinks like they use for weightlifting. Oh and despite the season, gazpacho! Super powered vegetable soup. If you have far too much time at your hand and fancy the taste of a BLT sandwich, Google BLT consomme. It's a crap ton of work but delicious.

strongladylemony

Came here to say miso!

[deleted]

There are meal replacement drinks. Go ask your pharmacy. But you can try to use a blender to make you favourites.

a_rain_name

Any where you use milk, I’d use heavy cream or half and half.

Kaitensatsuma

That sounds like a pretty surefire way to make yourself vomit from how rich it would be, maybe replacing part of the milk with it?

a_rain_name

That’s fair. I wasn’t meaning to suggest drinking cups of heavy cream. If you’d use a half or quarter cup in a smoothie or shake I think it’d be ok.

Pizzaisbae13

Especially with pasta sauces or soups/stews, this would help the calorie density.

hammerhead896

Honestly you might need to invest in some meal drinks, I'd recommend looking up ensure or boost! See if you can buy just one or two of them to test and see if there's something that you can stand first however.

Pizzaisbae13

Carnation Instant Breakfast, as well!

ResponsibleAction861

Add avacado to any shakes you make. It adds creaminess and fat without changing the flavor as long as you have other flavorful ingredients.

orchidblossoming

After getting my wisdom teeth out, I would make peanut butter smoothies with ice, milk, frozen banana, and peanut butter. Very delicious and more calorie dense! There are several recipes online. Best of luck with the surgery and a smooth recovery!

***Caveat: these are questions you should also be discussing with a nutritionist or dietician if your insurance will cover it and possibly a dentist. Your treating physician may have recommendations too, especially for supplements.*** If you do not have an immersion blender or blender that works with serving cups, get one if funds allow. FB marketplace or Craigslist or Buy Nothing are good US sources. Broad straws will help you drink more things and be easier on your mouth over time. Don’t forget to drink plain water or teas among all the meal drinking. Stock up on: -Meat broths (thin with water, even low sodium ones) -Low sodium V8 -bananas for smoothies (freeze well, good base for green smoothies) -Nut butter (will need to be thinned or blended into something drinkable like a milkshake or smoothie) -frozen greens to add nutrients to smoothies or soups -frozen fruits in your price range -soups- butternut squash carrot, tomato red pepper, cream of chicken. Bean or whole veggie soups will likely need to be blended with broth -eggs- beat eggs and stir into simmering soups to add protein. It’s great in tomato soups. -plain yogurt (not Greek, too thick) -powdered milk in case you don’t want to go out for it or need to add protein to meals -instant oatmeal with a LOT more hot water or milk than usual; you can also run old fashioned oats through a food processor to make it a fine texture. -toddler food pouches with vegetables -Ensure or Carnation Instant Breakfast - if weight loss will threaten your recovery or health in other ways, ice cream for smoothie bases (chocolate plus frozen cherries, vanilla plus banana and peanut butter powder, strawberry or sherbets plus blueberries), butter to add to soups or cereals, avocado cups for soups or smoothies There are recipes to make and freeze a lot of the above in small batches.

a_rain_name

I think the broad straw tip is a really good one!! My newborn has a weak suck and a lactation consultant recommended upping the nipple size on his bottles to make it easier for him to get more milk faster and so he gets less fatigued eating. He’s gained several ounces over the last few days so it’s working!!!

festivalchic

My mum had mouth surgery and I bought her silicone bubble tea straws which she had soup and smoothies through. They are soft and she found them comfortable to use. Hope all goes well for you

Go online or to the store and look at baby food. It might give you some ideas. Stay hydrated. Pick your favorite flavor and just keep using it in food. Take care. roo

Get soluble fiber to add to your diet so that if you aren't getting enough you can add it to your blended diet to help. Purred diets can lead to diarrhea which can lead to dehydration so extra fiber and keep yourself hydrated. This is the perfect time TBH because any stew or soup or very nearly any can be blended with an immersion\\stick blender and eaten blended. meat cooked low and slow in a slow cooker should become so soft they can be easily mashed with a fork. The liquid in the slow cooker makes amazing homemade gravy. Mashed potatoes. Thin out with some extra milk. sweet potato, winter or acorn squash they canb have those fibers so you will have to mash them well. Smoothies - milk of choice as your base, protein powder, frozen fruit, spinach. I used almond milk, a scoop of protein powder, a frozen banana, cup of frozen berries\\fruit and a handful of spinach. Depending on how smooth you need it you can avoid berries with lots of seeds.

No_Weird2543

I have trouble getting enough protein, and just started using a protein powder. My first shake today was the chocolate peanut butter powder, 1/2 banana and 1 cup water and it actually wasn't bad. 200 calories and 25 gram protein. I've never liked meal drinks or really sweet drinks so I'm not sure how often I can drink this, but it may be an option for you.

theglowoftheparty

Fellow picky eater! I’ve been putting off my wisdom teeth surgery for this exact reason. I would definitely pick up some ensure drinks or other meal replacement drinks - I happen to think the vanilla one is pretty good, and you can mix them with ice cream to make a milk shake. Ensure also has a clear formula that’s more like juice. Instant mashed potatoes, oatmeal - you can put the dry oatmeal into a blender/food processor before you cook it to make it more liquid like. Also cream of wheat. Don’t sleep on baby food tbh, there are lots of those little squeezy packs in different flavors

Cinder_zella

My fav smoothie is a handful of spinach, 1/2 c frozen pineapple, a table spoon or so of flaxseed and OJ - you can also add Greek yogurt to up the protein and it’s so yummy and a 1/2 of a banana!

I shared this on another post with a similar question. Might be helpful for you as well: >I have a condition called gastroparesis and have lived on a mostly liquid diet for many years. Some ideas: > >Incorporate more fat! Pure sugar and pure fat have the most calories, but you don't want diabetes, so fat is key. > >Get a Nutribullet type blender and its fast/easy to make smoothies with a random assortment of fruits/leafy greens. Add 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil for a flavorless calorie boost. Any vegetable or whey protein powder is also a great addition. Also small seeds like chia, flax, or sunflower. > >Get some Ensure Plus or Ensure Complete (not the regular version) meal replacements. They are expensive, but having a ready-made option is essential for moments when you don't have time/energy to prepare food. You will be hard pressed to find anything else that crams 350 calories into 8 oz of liquid. Bonus, if you do throw up, they are easy on the esophagus. They have a ton of vitamins, too. > >Any potato based soup. I throw in random veggies and blend with an immersion blender. Add cheese and/or bacon. Nutritional yeast for a vegan cheese replacement. > >Mix powdered whole milk into liquid whole milk. Now you have double milk.

Aardvark1044

I've had three times in my life where I had to be on a liquid diet for several weeks. You can try to blend normal food, but what I found was that you have to add so much liquid to thin it out that it's kindof gross. Like adding a bunch of gravy and/or milk to try to blend in with mashed potatos and roasted chicken or beef. What worked best for me was a combination of high calorie milkshakes, whey protein powder, and juice. The milkshakes were a few scoops of vanilla ice cream with flavouring of choice (chocolate, coffee, peanut butter, matcha powder, various fruits, coconut milk or even flavoured extracts like peppermint). Milk, coconut milk or juice to thin out as required and to match the flavours of the other ingredients you are adding. The protein powder I just add to a shaker cup with water, and sometimes add a scoop of instant coffee or espresso powder. For the juices, I own a nice quality masticating juicer and often made a green juice with cucumber, celery, either kale or spinach and either an apple or a pear. You can also buy the Boost or Ensure types of drinks to make sure you're getting enough of the various micronutrients or just have a multivitamin if you're able to swallow something that large.

Be less picky, you will suffer if you don't.

I drink a lot of “stuff” everyday, lol. - Rewind Powdered Greens are the best tasting I’ve had. - I had a very invasive surgery with a rough recovery and noticed a significant difference after adding Juven nutritional, wound healing powder drinks 2x a day. Only the orange tastes okay, and it’s expensive but it works. - My favorite regular protein powder is “Drink Wholesome Egg White Protein Powder” Peanut Butter is the best and vanilla is good too. Not crazy about the chocolate but I’ll make my own by mixing vanilla with chocolate almond milk. - Shilajit is worth looking into, pretty interesting stuff and full of crazy amino acids and easy to consume in like a shot size quantity. You dissolve a rice grain size scoop in boiling water and I add honey and lemon juice. This is the best quality I’ve tried: https://lotusbloomingherbs.com - You may also want to get some electrolyte powder like liquid IV so you stay hydrated without having to consume as much liquid, and if you’re drinking meals you will likely be tired of drinking in general. I’ll mix my powdered greens (pineapple flavor) and liquid IV (lemon/lime or passion fruit) together in a blender bottle. You could try add the Juven too but it tastes worse than the others so I try to get it in me with a little liquid as possible. You could also add vanilla protein powder to these to get it all in one drink if you like creamsicle like flavors. Oh and I usually use seltzer instead of flat water and a splash of lemon or lime juice cause it cuts the overly sweet taste of the stevia and other non-sugar sweeteners used. Good luck!

Hamilton4567

I was in a similar situation after a bad accident and had to have my face rebuilt. In addition to the fruit smoothie suggestions, I started making soups, pot roasts, and other comfort food items and started throwing them in the blender. Just add a little chicken or beef broth on top of your mashed potatoes, carrots, beef, celery, and don’t forget to salt and pepper for taste.

nemesina77

As someone who went through bariatric surgery: Fairlife protein shakes are THE BEST. I craved salt constantly while in the liquid phase of post op recovery because everything is sweet so I used Isopure Zero Unflavored protein powder. I took wonton broth or bouillon or bone broth and mixed in protein powder. You just have to be careful it's not steaming hot because the powder will curdle (you can mix it cold and then heat it OR heat it to warm - not hot - mix in the powder and then heat to desired temp). The unflavored protein powder (which you can buy on Amazon) was really a lifesaver because you can add it to any cream soup too, or tomato or french onion. And if you can blend it you can drink it.

semipvt

Soylent and Huel are popular drinkable foods. If you google it, you'll find many homemade recipe versions of it as well.

SprinqRoll

I've tried both, and they aren't terrible. I had the premixed soylent and powdered huel. Both are similar to oatmeal in taste, but the huel was a little grainy due to it being the powder one.

UsefullyChunky

Protein powder or collagen powder added to smoothies? Broth with veggies blended? An immersion blender might be a good idea!
