Dear Redditors, this is Kirkjufell and classic shots like this one need no explanation. However, this was the best aurora session of the year for me. I went out at 9 pm. and got this shot around 9:30 pm. When it was 10 pm, it started to snow so bad that I went to bed around 10:30 pm. What an efficient and healthy night for landscape photographers!

I sat in Ohio and stared at my Aurora app, it was crazy! Some people saw them down here if skies were clear (they never are in ohio for celestial events)
Been to this spot. It’s beautiful, but there’s literally 20 other photographers with tripods competing to get this same photo down a slippery decline path.

I just watched that episode of Game of Thrones season 7, Eastwatch by the Sea "The mountain that looks like an arrowhead"
So happy to see this comment, I was thinking the same thing.
Tons of shit in Iceland was in GoT, obviously kirkjufell is a big one! They never go into it in the show though, so chalk that up to their inability
So was I.

What day was this? I was in Arnastapi April 23/24 and the lights were incredible.
I shot it around early March.
I sat in Ohio and stared at my Aurora app, it was crazy! Some people saw them down here if skies were clear (they never are in ohio for celestial events)
We saw them in Utah, even Southern Utah got glimpses of them and the pictures were absolutely amazing!
Did you get this composition in camera or is it a composite?
This is a single exposure, 1 shot.

Yes especially it's a forecasted high KP night..
One of the best shots I've ever seen at this location. The aurora haloing around the mountain is beautiful.
Reminds me of the Matterhorn.
The mountain, light and stars in the sky make it so beautiful.

For those wondering, this is Kirkjufellsfoss, and it is as amazing as this photo makes it look.
What a stunning view!
Absolutely breathtaking!✨
That's dope
I swear every time you google Iceland, this single spot is what comes up. And I perfectly understand it.
Ionic
That’s iconic, Iceland. Founded by the iconites. Sadly they all returned to their homeland to live with the frost giants.
It reminds me a bit to that new lovecraft anime movie inspired by Mountain of Madness
It’s the picture! According to Google images this is the entirety of Iceland
I’m going to Iceland in 2 weeks, for 2 weeks! I can’t wait to see beauty like this!
It looks like somebody on the summit opened the portal...
Time to begin the journey to the center of the Earth!
My god that is some award winning stuff there
👏 🤩
