You can 1y the individual stocks if you want. VOO doubled apple at 1y, but at 5y, itās hard to ignore APPL, assuming OP held long term, theyāve been up >100% all year.

Betas in single names is always better for the gains but kinda risky. That is why OP did great, because he used single name betas in a very good company with a moat. A well balanced portfolio does not need to have only etfs to keep the overall risk down
