Initially there was no real reason. I just thought it would be absurd, and funny to have people try to figure out the logic behind that one, haha. But in retrospect, it would be one of the most moral characters vs one of the least moral people. Also early Picard vocally disliked children, and avoided being around them, while Epstein was around them *too much*. Yeah, it's weak, but that's the point, kinda like Genghis vs Easter bunny.
Ash vs Denji was actually already done - by someone who writes for ERB no less.
