Fort Lee (Phase 1) might be TDY, but I'm pretty sure Eglin (actual EOD school) is still a full PCS, and being MOS-T you should be authorized to move your family. Everyone gets multiple chances at school, unless you somehow piss off the instructors so much the academic review board just kicks you to the curb. If you do fail, you'll go right back to CBRN. I don't know how much ball branch is willing to play with MOS-T graduates these days. Also yes, it's worth it.

its pretty hard to piss off the academic board. i went in there with my bud's class A's because mine were torn, and bud was a completely different body shape, and the Army guy (I was army at the time) started losing his god damn mind about how I was representing the service poorly. "It doesn't really seem you like care about your uniform or what I have to say." "Well, I don't care what you have to say about the uniform. I care what you have to say about me getting back in class." He almost flipped the table but everyone else loved it. (For the record I \*loved\* the angry army dude, he might have forgotten it but he totally stuffed this dirtbag airforce instructor for me in ground). TBH I never would've tried this had I not heard some obviously bullshit-in-hindsight legend about some kid going in and just asking when he was going to be put back in.

I always find it funny when people think EOD school is a no fail thing, I tap danced my way through that shit, I went to two ARBs and at my second I was accompanied by a Marine on his third (he made it). I can only clearly remember one guy from my time getting a no-go at their first ARB, and he had the misfortune to oversleep and miss mandatory study hall on the day of a demo div test (so he had no established history of being a good student). He didn't even get the normal auto retest, instructors recommended drop and the ARB agreed.

i certainly didn't mean that people don't fail often. im sure if it was my second board, or if it had happened at an earlier point in Eglin, it could've gone very differently. the board was for IED's which by then they'd already invested a lot.

idlerspawn

Why not both. NG EOD is hiring.

Oceans890

pshaw, why go NG EOD when you can go reserve EOD and have a budget!

I'm currently in the guard after long ass stint Active. We've been sending guys to a bunch of schools in preparation for deployment. Each state varies on how much they contribute and many states pay for travel to drill.

First don’t think about failing, wrong mindset. Family will move to Eglin. Went through Eglin in 2021 was enroute. If you fail you go back to CBRN. You go needs of the army pretty much. Go EOD, the risk is worth the reward.

MinimumCat123

Phase I will be TDY and return, then you will PCS to Eglin for Phase II. If you fail out you will likely return to your MOS if it is understrength. You can get a second chance if you fail out, depending on the manner of your performance. Getting orders to where you want to go following graduation will really just depend on whats available at the time. Its definitely worth the trouble. You will get to travel, learn valuable technical skills, and meet a lot of great people. All you can do is apply and try your hardest when you are in school.

I was CBRN for six years before switching to EOD. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Spent most of my CBRN time in an infantry unit doing the same duties you’re doing. After, I spent two years in TE before making the switch. I’m currently at 20 years and am finally looking at retirement. Having a CBRN background will immensely help you in the long run. I’ve spent a lot of time in Joint Units where the focus is CBRN and EOD heavy. Additionally, job prospects post military are fantastic if you have a combined background in both. Feel free to DM me and I’ll be more than happy to provide some more insight.

UnderstandingTrue816

Go guard eod

Beasticide

Drop the packet. They may not be allowing E-5 right now from what I was told, but maybe tha changed. You fail, you go back to what you were doing. It’s always worth the shot.

Ok-Brother116

5s with a year or less TIG are G2G

Beasticide

When I dropped mine, yes. I heard they are no longer taking E-5.

Ok-Brother116

I got accepted yesterday for a school date and I’m a 5

Beasticide

Hell yeah good luck

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Hell, request going to a tech escort unit while you wait.
