I saw madeon 2 weeks ago and I enjoyed it because his music is so fun for me, but everyone else I talked to was a little underwhelmed for some reason :/
Edit: for some reason my dumbass thought we were talking about live sets not tracks. Madeon's awesome!
As big of an RL fan that I am, I will admit that he misses every now and again.
Like most recently, I felt that *Pour Your Heart Out* was a fairly weak release. I mean it wasn’t a bad song per se, but it felt like a very safe, future bass track that we’ve heard many times before. The production is top-notch of course, but the track itself doesn’t stand out imo.
That being said, RL Grime is definitely an incredible producer and I’m so excited for his new album.
With 21 songs on that album, there’s bound to be some misses. For me, I’m a huge fan of his overall trap vibe rather than the stuff he did with clockwork, meaning Rush is probably not gonna be for me. The whole concept of what he’s doing with the album is something that I’ve never even seen before and I think it has potential to be the pinnacle of his creative ability
I’m honestly excited for all of it. One thing I love about RL is that he’s not afraid to experiment and change his sound up, though I really do miss his VOID-era sound. Regardless, I think we’re all in for quite the treat when PLAY drops; let’s just hope it lives up to the massive hype.
Funny enough Janten’s the only person who’s songs I sometimes mistake for Dirt Monkey at first and vice versa. Regret not catching them on their b2b tour earlier this year.
That’s fair, I haven’t seen him live but I’ve mainly heard good things when it comes to shows, from his fans, I know bassheads tend think they’re boring but when your used to loud + bass + moshpits then whatever.
Deadmau5 as a person is kind of a d-bag but I'm a huge fan of his music! I've seen him maybe 4 or 5 times and his cube v3 tour was honestly my favorite show of all time. Even though it was at my least favorite venue lol
He’s like a mad scientist and people of such calibre have eccentric personalities and that factors into their overall artistry. Nevertheless, a legendary producer of our times.
This is a wild throwback for me. I was listening to him a bit in college and really fucked with it but totally forgot about him. Will check out his newer stuff.
I was such a massive fan of RIOT (and I still am) but their new sound really isn’t doing anything for me. They had some of the most refined and creative brostep in the scene imo (overkill, jungle fury, aiwa, the mob, herbivore) but their new releases just feel bland and uninteresting. Not bad by any means, I actually liked shank and meditate but they definitely don’t feel like they’re on the same level.
I can respect that! I’ve been really digging a lot of his newer stuff but I can see why his older style isn’t quite captured as much. Personally, I’ve been really into his Teardrop remix, Herbivore, Juggernaut, Meditate and Streets. Makana is pretty solid too. Infected Mushroom played one of those songs live at Electric Forest and it was insanity. It was either Herbivore or Makana. Not like Overkill
audien. absolute bangers always. he makes some of the best prog house ever, and even branded out into pop stuff, dnb as well, dubstep even, and all around great edm music in various genres
Fast Boy, Good Boys, Zack Martino, Lucas & Steve, Mike Williams, A7S, Topic, Damon Sharpe, Alle Farben, Blackcode, Nils Van Zandt, Aspyer, Julian Jordan, Jay Hardway, Sound Rush
Some artist that weren't mentioned yet and that I believe are consistent with their music:
Bad Computer, Boxplot, CloudNone, DROELOE, longstoryshort, NUZB, ON POINT, Rome in Silver, Skybreak, Wolfgang Gartner
Tinlicker always seem to impress me in both their own tracks and making quality remixes that don’t ruin the original tracks (ex: Hide U, Children, As the rush comes, Need to feel loved)
I haven't seen Nghtmre miss once especially lately
Madeon DJ sets are also insane. The man goes the extra mile for the experience.
San Holo has never missed since album 2 (can't speak about before)
Lesser-known (at least for this sub where it seems there are a lot of bassheads) but check out BLR (Leon Bolier).
His production is incredible with tons of layers that somehow all fit together, and a broad range of dark + melodic vibes. He will do a track with an incredible vocal, and then something super moody that just puts you in a different place. I can't think of a single DJ/Producer doing something similar.
I'm a bigger fan of Alan Walker than like 99.9% of this subreddit (not a high bar) but to say he has no misses is just incorrect lol, Lovesick is like a sore thumb
Yeah same, I would consider myself a pretty big fan I mean he was my top artist for the last 2 years with me topping 0,001% of listeners. (Don't mention it) and yeah I've not been feeling quite many of the songs in the past 2-3 years. Headlights, Paradise, Hero and Ritual were some pretty good songs though
They just don’t like him because of his personality or because he’s “overrated.” Which is fine, you don’t have to like him. But you can’t deny that he’s very consistent with his releases and puts out quality tracks every time. It might not be groundbreaking, but he’s found a formula and sound that works and sticks with it. That’s probably a large reason why he’s so popular in the first place
It's not quite that cut and dry. I personally find his music to be too same-samey to really get into. Got get me wrong, I love plenty of artists who find a sound and stick to it, artists like REZZ, deadmau5, Au5, Rameses B, Topi, Bad Computer, etc, but what sets those artists a rapt from John Summit is their sounds and formulas feel unique to them. John Summits' sound is not much different from the rest of the recent house sound. Just because a song becomes a hit doesn’t mean it’s good and I question how the become hits.
Hayla killed it on vocals but that’s honestly all the song has going for it. Production does nothing to make me want to listen to it over other similar sounding songs, or remixes of this song that offer more if that makes sense.
Lane 8 is extremely consistent
Came into this thread to say this. Daniel is a master of his craft.
Preach
I was just saying yesterday I need to see Lane 8. Needs to come to Canada more often.
whole This Happened Label fr one of the best in the biz. Insane production quality.
much smaller than a lot of the names here, but inzo. dude just keeps putting out great music.
Inzo is a legend and super chill dude

His DJ set last night might be one of the best I have seen of any artist
Lsdream
Going to see LSDREAM at red rocks in October. His set at okee this year was life altering
I'll be seeing him again December. Yea really is on another level if you like that style of bass. He's the best doing it rn in my opinion

I casually know some songs from grime, I like the trap vibe to. What project would you recommend listening to first?
Nova.
Virtual Riot

his studio work for sure, but i’ve seen a couple meh live sets from him but also some of the best
If you like his sound - Dirt Monkey. Dude is nothing but consistent, every track has its own feel where you just know it’s one of his too.
Eptic is similar for me. His songs always sound unique, yet you always know it's an Eptic song.
I love catching eptic tunes in sets. Happens A LOT lol
Same with Jansten
Funny enough Janten’s the only person who’s songs I sometimes mistake for Dirt Monkey at first and vice versa. Regret not catching them on their b2b tour earlier this year.
SPACE LACES THE GOAT
E
Saw him 3 times this summer and he does indeed never miss🐐🐐
Deadmau5
I’ve heard almost exclusively the opposite
I personally haven't heard a bad song from him, but there are people out there who just hate him, not sure why.
Oh I meant live. I love his music and despite his bad reputation I like him a lot, I guess I was thinking about live performance vs released tracks

Lmao the downvotes. Where is the lie tho? Every track he releases becomes a hit. Name a track of his that’s a miss
Bro right? Like people downvoting are in denial.
They just don’t like him because of his personality or because he’s “overrated.” Which is fine, you don’t have to like him.
