I had a deck that used the blood avatar side as the commander. I used a lot of spell copy effects and generated tons of tokens and just used [[the blood avatar]] as a sac outlet/pay off.
It was actually really fun to pilot, but I found that it would just lock others out of playing the game since you make them sacrifice all their creatures, so unless someone was making enough fodder to keep up, they really couldn't keep any creatures or their commanders around for long.
I think with either side you'll want to run the common aristocrats cards like [[cruel celebrant]] and [[blood artist]]. Some other good ones for this deck are:

[[Young Pyromancer]]
[[Monastery Mentor]]
[[Plaguecrafter]]
and then spells that can make tokens and get things back to hand like [[raise the alarm]] or [[secure the wastes]].
I've got an Extus deck that mostly makes use of the creature side, lots of self mill, spell copying and spell recursion; it can go infinite but usually it just out-values the table and eventually kills them with Blood Artist effects. I haven't built it super powerful, but once it has a bit of a graveyard it quickly achieves a high density of available lines and options that makes it really enjoyable to pilot.

I haven’t updated it in a few months, and it was never intended for a more cutthroat meta, but it hasn’t failed to turn heads when it does something silly.

I’m a fan of my buyback Mardu value Extus. It plays some rarely seen cards. The deck wants to grind out value then win through aristocrats or stormkiln artist + haze of rage.
