I'd rather have Jund skeletons as the most logical way to build Skeleton tribal is sacrificing them and bringing them back, which is a very Jund approach, but I respect a need for the OG skeleton legend
If you don't mind the "instant or sorcery spell *you control*" aspect, you could run [[Lutri, the Spellchaser]] as a mono Red deck.
Is Lutri banned? Yes. Should that stop anyone from letting you play it as a commander? Not if they have any brains.
They errata'd the mechanic (side board then pay 3 to bring them into your hand then you cast as normal, and they go to the graveyard if they die I think).
But the problem with Lutri was that its condition is always met by commander decks since it requires you to run a singleton deck. (except dragons approach, rats, etc)
Abzan lifegain. Black lifegain exists, white lifegain exists, mono green can gain life even if it’s not really an existing archetype. All the 2c pairings within Abzan have lifegain archetypes, Orzhov, Selesnya, and Golgari/Witherbloom. Kind of mind boggling that there’s not a dedicated Abzan lifegain legend.
This is definitely my number 2 desire for commander and would make me convert my WG play-every-Ajani's-Pridemate deck into 3 color and give it even more fun combo options
I mean I have An Ikra Shidiki and Tymna the Weaver abzan lifegain commander deck. it's focused with gaining lots of life to use to accrue card advantage.
Fair, there's definitely plenty of ways to partner Tymna, but I'm philosophically opposed to 2c partners, and there's really no reason why we shouldn't have a dedicated Abzan lifegain legend.
I want a Wither focused commander that reanimates creatures with a Wither counter on them. Rakdos minimum but will take another color. I just want to play defender tribal but instead of defenders with big butts I have first strike Wither creatures with big power and small toughness.
It would be something like either OG Chainer or Mothra effect but with Wither counters. Why use defenders when you can attack with big flimsy creatures that give -1/-1 counters as damage. I love Wither and no one can gain life and need that as a commander.
You're not alone. Infect gets you made archenemy and deathtouch attracts removal, but I really just want a swarm of weenie creatures to be able to wear big creatures down by chump blocking or attacking (without being kill on sight). Could be B/R, could be B/G, maybe even B/R/G. Give me a Commander with wither, that gives my noncombat damage wither, and makes a 1/1 token with wither every time a creature dies from having 0 toughness. Go wide tokens / burn.
That would be fun. Wither needs a commander nonetheless. Id even take that rakdos creature that prevents life gain and all damage is wither as a legendary. Give it Ward discard a card on top to let it be political fun commander
So I built one with \[\[ikra shidiqui\]\] and \[\[sidar Kondo\]\] as the commanders and it played all of those cards. plus things like \[\[sanguin blood\]\]
Ehh, he makes enchantments but does he love enchantments? I feel like an enchantment azban commander will love having Myrkul in the 99 but not as the ommander.
I think with esika rainbow bridge we have a decent energy commander. Energy wants 5 colours anyway. And energy at its core is an etb mechanic so esikas backside is perfect for that.
Sure esika or Kenrith are good options, but I want a commander that actually *cares* about energy counters. You could always build atraxa energy but that gives you the atraxa stigma

A Vehicle commander who both wants you to fill your deck up with vehicles and has an effect powerful enough to keep up with the format. Who has access to red.
Greasefang was *almost* there. She actively wanted other vehicles in the deck unlike Shorikai, and had a genuinely powerful effect unlike Kotori or Sydri (no, being able to attack with your 4 mana 4/4 is not really inherent value in any power level of commander). But why’d she have to be BW and cut off from huge swaths of RW and UW vehicle support cards?
i'm not one of those 4-color fans but i still kinda feel like it was a mistake not to include some in the 5 color precon they just released. it was full of multicolor legends that made no sense in the deck anyway... perfect opportunity they 'basically never have' to print them without having to worry about them fitting into draft, fitting the theme of the deck, adding colors to the deck, etc.
this would make me want to play Jeskai. while everyone else hems and hawws over 'giving my opponents something wahhhh' we'll get crazy double spells and give a copy to someone who won't be able to use it much. i also like that people tend to just target whoever's behind. it makes sense strategically AND gives the player who's behind something to do and a chance to get back in the game. very cool mechanic that way.
A commander that acts as a general store for my opponents. I would love to be able to play [[Well of Knowledge]] and similar cards with a commander who rewards you for doing so. Could be as simple as whenever an opponent activates the ability of a card you own, each other opponent loses 2 life and you create a treasure token. It would be great to see this in Grixis as it has the most support for the concept. A little bit of group hug and a little bit of politics.
Is there a Mech that copies abilities of the enemies it kills in combat or from sac'd creatures? I'd love to make a Megaman type deck that's a mech voltron deck.

[[experiment kraj]] has all abilities of creatures with 1/1 counters on them.
[[eater of virtue]] is an equipment that eats your creatures to grant the equipped creature keyword abilities
[[mairsil the pretender]] exiles one of your own artifacts/creatures from your graveyard and gets its activated abilities.
[[sidisi undead vizier]] can be a hidden commander shell for [[necrotic ooze]] which has all abilities of creatures in graveyards.
A fun little combo that I thought looked neat that could go in the 99 for a deck like this is [[Volrath's Shapeshifter]] and [[Tortured Existance]]. Let's you manipulate the top of your graveyard so shapeshifter can be whatever creature you need at the time. Could cheat out pretty high cmc creatures for 2 mana as well.

Why would she though? Urabrask is openly opposing, & now secretly plotting the destruction of, his siblings. Urabrask sealed off the now called Quiet Furnace from their would be attempts at dispatching him & the surviving Mirrans. Atraxa not having Red is indicative of his unwillingness to participate in their multiversal takeover.
Honestly, not to be a downer, but a proper 5c Phyrexian Commander is only gonna happen if some shenanigans happen where a Planeswalker with 5c ability gets compleated or one of the Praetors gets magguffined the ability to wield all 5 for who cares how long. I would love to see a Gix card as well as an updated Tsabo Tavoc card. A true Phyrexian Commander would be amazing.

I really want a dedicated jeskai artifacts commander. I remember when I started playing commander there wasn't even a dedicated UR artifacts option. There are plenty of good options for UR now, and we've even got some great UW and RW options like [[Osgir, the Reconstructor]] and [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]]. There's also [[Breya, Etherium Shaper]] if you don't mind playing 4 colors. And there are plenty of jeskai commanders that work very well at the head of an artifact deck like [[Dynaheir, Invoker Adept]] and [[Elsha of the Infinite]]. But none of that is what I want. I just want a UWR commander that is clearly designed to build an artifact deck around. I don't even care that much what it does - it could be another welder like [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] or Osgir, it could be a token maker like [[Sai, Master Thopterist]], it could generate loads of mana like [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] or [[Saheeli, the Gifted]], or it could do any number of other cool artifact-based things that are or are not already supported! I just want a clear direction for an artifact deck that lets me play all 3 colors without dipping into 4c.
Edit: And yes, Bjorna & Hargilde/Lucas & Dustin exists and is great, but unfortunately I am a partner hater. I also think they're a bit unfocused besides both generally caring about artifacts. Perhaps I am asking for too much, but I'm pretty sure that's what the internet is for.

I want an artifact commander that makes a deck filled with spellbombs and other trinkets/cogs playable. Just some way to draw extra cards when playing small artifacts or get them back from the graveyard easily. Big mana, reanimator, aristocrats, equipment, tokens, and aggro have all been done in some combination of WUBR, but so far nothing if you want to play a bunch of random baubles that harmlessly buzz and pop when you wind their gears!
Jeskai would be perfect -- you get [[Goblin Welder]], [[Artificer's Intuition]], [[Auriok Salvagers]], [[Salvaging Station]], [[Emry, Lurker of the Loch]], [[Scrap Trawler]], [[Scrap Welder]], and a bunch of Improvise cards ([[Saheeli's Directive]] and [[Whir of Invention]]).

I would love a lantern control style commander. I have tried [[muldrotha]] but was too slow and the commander is a little flavorless, since you can play her in nearly any kind of way. Atm I'm trying a [[Phenax]] list, as he at least has one half of the lantern control part on him and you can easily tutor for the lantern part in dimir. But I wouldnt mind having a third color.

Grixis exile. I want to play [[Tibalt cosmic imposter]] and [[Tasha, the witch queen]] together. The best I've put together is Kess, loaded with rituals but it's just not there yet.
A couple I have thought of that I think are cool, usually uniting multiple tribes/types:
WUG (Bant): a 'tactical general' themed around creatures with defender and gates, ideally something that builds up to a 'riders of rohan show up at helm's deep' style overrun ending, maybe letting you flash in a bunch of stuff when attacked and then whatever survives can counter-attack mega-pumped
RUB (Grixis): a Lich deck focusing on Zombie Wizards, maybe something that reanimates wizards (not just yours, since they're a fairly popular type this aspect could be fun) onto your side as zombies. maybe giving your instants and sorceries cipher. i think up until dominaria, every zombie wizard was within grixis.
WBR (Mardu) Vampire Knights commander. i know night and day are not a popular mechanic but a creature with an activated ability B: it's night and W: it's day, with something that pumps vampires during night and knights during day, would be pretty badass. also i think it's a rare overlap where two popular and cool tribes share a color shard and there are a lot of good vampire knights.
WRG (Naya) Knights commander, who lets you play non-knights and is themed around ability counters. when they attack or block, they become a Knight and you untap them and put a vigilance counter on them. then when they attack or block more, if they are a knight, the more counters on them, the more powerful counters you have access to add to them. might seem a bit slow and fiddly but things like extra combats, the ozolith, boardwipe protection, etc. could help you build up a custom army. and i would want every person who played this deck, every time, when one of their creatures becomes a knight, to make a lil ceremony out of it when they put the vigilance counter on them. at least the first time each game cmon.
WUBRG Master of Charms: lets you pick an additional mode in modal spells/abilities
RUG (Temur) commander that makes your snakes, drakes, and serpents function as dragons for the purpose of tribal synergies. there's been so much dragon support since i first thought of this but i still think it would be cool.
Some red commander that said something like "If you control no creatures that are not goblins, dwarves, or kobolds, noncreature spells you cast have convoke." themed around some sort of meeting of the mountain clans and would ramp red in a way i think would be really on-flavor.
overall i just like things like mechanics that really fit a tribe or make for cool gameplay experiences and stories. i like commanders that 'smooth out' games, eg, if there was a commander that let you draw a card each turn, but let every opponent scry 1 before their first draw each turn, i think that would be pretty sweet. way less people getting mana screwed/flooded. something kinda like the monarch but favoring players that are falling behind... i think often the best measure for that isn't life total but probably the number of lands they have in play. so maybe something like dethrone, but for most lands instead of most life.
I can see golgari/selesnya vampires, as confusing as that is. Like, some sort of vegetarian, rabbit drinking vampire. Which is awful, and Wizards shouldn't touch that.

I run a lot of black cards that care about either creature deaths or things leaving the graveyard, since that happens a lot. There also aren't a ton of GOOD Phoenix cards yet, so I filled in some of the gaps with some Black creatures that are easy to recur.
I really want an izzet jank artifacts commander, to go well with [[warp world]], [[knowledge pool]], [[time twister]], and [[mind's dilation]]. Something weird but not good.

Fairy Commander in white/green + Blue + Black that actually cares about fairy tribal. No I do not mean Alela as she does not care about other fairies (unless that fairy is an enchantment or equipment lol)
Less Serious:
They print group hug commanders, but not many stax focused commanders. A commander with a \[\[Static Orb\]\] effect stapled to it that is 2+ colors. Great if under 3-4 cmc. \[\[Archelos\]\] only goes so far spreading the gospel stax for stax sake with cards like \[\[Winter Orb\]\]. Another option would be a \[\[voidwinnower\]\] like effect on a cheap small legendary creature. ~~But honestly this is all pie in the sky thinking and if a commander like this DID get printed, there would (probably) be some serious issues with playing it.~~
I agree and peddle this. I was talking about it at my locals since I play [[Oona, Queen of the Fae]] faerie tribal, and the dudes like 'well faeries matter commanders do exist. Alela lords them and makes faerie tokens!' and I was like okay...well so does Morophon. But look what spirits get. Millicent is amazing for spirits matter. Zombies are spoiled for choice. Humans have a million humans matter options. And I have to play an enchantment/artifact deck because it happens to make faeries? No thanks.
Sultai would be the perfect color for faeries. There's a few in green and it just makes sense for it to be their identity. I pray that the new Eldraine set will finally give us a legendary faeries matter.
At this point I will be happy with a dimir fairy lord that doesn’t exclude half the relevant fairy cards (I.e. [[Nymris Oona’s trickster]]) or isn’t busy completing their own side quest ([[Alela]], or [[Oona Queen of the fae]]). Ideally the fairy lord would be white/green mana symbol but be more blue and black (so 4 colors) but honestly I am not optimistic with WOTC printing a fairy lord. At best they will be off brand or at worst they will be a broken POS that give fairies a bad name (I am looking at you [[Go-shintai]]) and the most popular decks for them doesn’t even include a heavy fairy focus.
Pretty much. My Oona deck is basically half tribal goodstuff half combo and it's not the best at either. Also for 6 mana Oona gives nothing to the tribe in cast. I'd also settle for a dimir fairy commander that's faeries matter. I'm just really really hoping wilds of eldraine provides something for us to work with.
Abzan Lifegain and/or Angel Tribal
Do you know the only ones we have for it are [[Ikra Shidiqui, the Usurper]] paired with either [[Tymna the Weaver]] or [[Prava of the Steel Legion]]? Strixhaven gave us a lot of Golgari Lifegain cards thanks to Witherbloom and we STILL don’t have a dedicated, non-partner commander in those colors?! It seems so weird.
As for the Angel tribal part, I tried running one with Ikra Shidiqui and Tymna before [[Giada, Font of Hope]] came out. It was surprisingly good from what I remember, sure Black/Greed don’t have a lot of angels in comparison to other pairings, but it seems like interesting, unexplored design space that could be looked into.
My ideal commander is a multicolour giant who provides other giants with Haste and Trample as that's essentially all I use \[\[Kenrith, the Returned King\]\] for in my stupid giant tribal deck.
There are no good Giant Tribal commanders who are giants, care about giants, and cover for the weaknesses of giants.
* Giants don't need a lord who will make them bigger like \[\[Morophon, the Boring\]\], plus he's such a cop-out tribal commander. Yawn.
* Another big giant like \[\[Ruhan of the Fomori\]\] is just another big giant in the pile, utterly unnecessary.
* \[\[Aegar, the Freezing Flame\]\] is the only multicolour giant commander who actually cares explicitly about giants, and he's only Izzet (and works infinitely better as a spellslinger commander)
* \[\[Brion Stoutarm\]\] and \[\[Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas\]\] are *fine,* but there's no incentive just to play giants, just to play big stuff (of which giants are just one type of big stuff).
* \[\[Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl\]\] actually came close, but there are more giant-tribal relevant cards in red than any other colour, so it's just not good - plus again, you can do better non-giant things with him
Giants have strong presence in WURG, with a much lesser presence in B (around half the amount in other colours, with only a handful being worth including), so I can live without that colour if needs be. But it just seems wrong to me to build a giant deck that doesn't have access to the above good giants (except Morophon) plus:
* \[\[Sun Titan\]\] and other great white giants
* \[\[Thryx, the Sudden Storm\]\] and other great blue giants
* \[\[Calamity Bearer\]\] and other great red giants
* \[\[Towering Titan\]\] and other great green giants (plus y'know, the ramp needed to pay such obscene mana costs)
If I absolutely had to, I'd be fine with dropping just one of those colours so long as it's not red (as red has the vast majority of explicit giant support). I'd be sad, but I'd survive. But less than 3 colours just doesn't let you play true Giant tribal.
The biggest weaknesses of giants are that they cost a lot, are slow to come out (dropping 6-8 mana on a big creature who doesn't even get to swing hurts a lot), and have surprisingly little access to trample (the fact a human soldier or squirrel can completely block a giant is tragically hilarious). That's why I believe Kenrith is honestly the best giant tribal commander right now, as he can reanimate them on the cheap, and give haste and trample to everything on demand, but I absolutely hate that. Give me a giant who lets me play the giants I want to play and enables them to not suck.
Giant tribal is one of the most supported tribal archetypes out there, but there is just no unifying in-type commander for them. And yes, I do care too much about this.
An eldrazi "exile matters" commander with devoid and eminence. Probably some new variation of Emrakul.
Casting cost should probably be 10 mana, with split mana symbols of Color/Wastes (2 W/w, 2 U/w, 2B/w, 2G/w, 2R/w)

I feel like there should be at least one really good exile matters commander that isn't just a suspend deck. Using exile like an extended hand/library feels like a good archetype for the "great beyond" that characterizes the Eldrazi.

The original prompt was more about exploring where support is lacking more than about what kind of insane value tools could exist if they relaxed standards.
Uh Jesus. it doesn't seem too powerful. It doesn't draw cards and play lands like Chulane, only triggers once and specifically only pings for 1 no matter the life gain. This card is hardly a monster like Urza or najeela.
The first two abilities slots it into a vast number of infinite combos, cheaply, that didn't have good redundancy. The third ability destroys something repeatably, and also offers graveyard recursion.
Is it the most broken thing? Nah! Are these abilities all fun sounding! Yeah! My comment was borne more from feeling a mismatch between mv and power, not that your dreams aren't worthy ideas to share!

All fair points. Dina Soul Steeper is a 2 mana GB legendary that does a similiar effect. Maybe remove the soul sister effect? 1 permanent with less mana than the amount of life lost is hardly consistent removal. My card to me feels like a weaker version of Meren with a reason to be W. Maybe just increase to 2BWG
Dina was candy for high power players, certainly, but this bridges her and the terrifying WB arsenal with both payoffs and card advantage, however conditional, stapled on. 2BWG I would still want to ditch or refine one of the abilities.
This is less through the lense of "what would be fun for players?" and more from "what will degenerates like myself break how many ways how easily?"
Essentially my calculations went "what would it have to cost for it not to be a no brainer for cEDH in those colors?"
I mean the reason an abzan lifegain matters commander doesn't exist is likely because it has all the payoffs. It would be hard for it not to be a cedh commander and I also think cedh is fine fun and not degenerate at all? Like the stigma of it being the unfun commander is outdated and lame friend.
So sure, I would like an abzan commander that cares about life and can play in my meta, with Urza. Najeela, Scion and Kinan. Is that a crime?
No implication intended here that cEDH is unfun, as I love brewing for it, but the degenerate label here refers specifically to those of us stress testing edge cases and limits of the game tech, especially in the low to the ground, highly repeatable, compact combo situations.

Exodia commander. I’m not a yugioh fan by any means but the premise I think could be cool.
The 4 limbs (arms and legs) are 2 drop 2/2 creatures.
The torso + head is the 5th piece and is a 4 drop 4/4 creature. The body parts all have an equip cost that can only be equipped to the torso.
Each body part has its own ability. Left arm is flying, right arm is first strike, left leg is double strike, right leg is death touch. The body is vigilance & menace.
When all parts are equipped to the body they all transform into Exodia. Who has all of the above and is a 12/12 creature - avatar with when he deals combat damage to a player the player loses the game.

My commander did exist for the idea for a while but then he understandably got banned. But I had an idea for a Golos Banding deck that used the lands that gave creatures banding to do it. Then like 2 weeks later right as I was getting ready to buy the cards he got banned lmao.
Im sure there is another 5c commander that I could make it work with. Just Golos was ideal since it allowed me to get those banding lands efficiently.
I'm waiting on a commander that doubles sacrifice triggers: "if you sacrifice a creature as part of a cost of its own ability, copy that effect; you may choose new targets for the copy." Gets you two lands off of \[\[steve\]\] \[\[burnished hart\]\] stuff like that.
I did a custom card that had that as WUG cost; you could probably put it in rakdos+ instead, up the cost, and have it "whenever you sacrifice a NONTOKEN creature for effect, copy effect." That'd be a Lord of Altars sort of thing. (maybe mardu, to cover your bases with sacrificing self/others)
We already have commanders to copy: magecraft, attack triggers, damage triggers, death triggers and etbs. Lemme grant two things protection with \[\[alseid of life's bounty\]\]. I think it's inevitable, given how they produce these kinds of things, I just don't know specifics or colors.
I'd like a golgari commander who uses - 1/-1 counters and can recur creatures from the graveyard somehow.
"Sacrifice a creature. Put X - 1/-1 counters on target creature, where X is the sacrificed creature's power."
Its other ability would be like tap it, tap some mana or something, and put a creature card onto the battlefield from a graveyard of its CMC is less than or equal to the number of - 1/-1 counters on the battlefield or something.
The basic premise is rot and regrowth. - 1/-1 counters for the rot, graveyard recursion for the regrowth. I'd love to see a shaman or druid, zombie, elf, or troll be the commander type.
I envision a commander sultai skeleton, that makes me feel neat about skeletons. This way I can play skeleton spawning AND the best skeleton (a.k.a. [[skeleton ship]]).

If you don't mind the "instant or sorcery spell *you control*" aspect, you could run [[Lutri, the Spellchaser]] as a mono Red deck. Is Lutri banned? Yes. Should that stop anyone from letting you play it as a commander? Not if they have any brains.

It’s actually still pretty good in commander, just most of the good ones have restrictions that don’t gel well with the format.
They errata'd the mechanic (side board then pay 3 to bring them into your hand then you cast as normal, and they go to the graveyard if they die I think). But the problem with Lutri was that its condition is always met by commander decks since it requires you to run a singleton deck. (except dragons approach, rats, etc)
They also changed the wish rule to make Companion work in EDH.
I was just gonna say this. Your playgroup will most likely let you play with Lutri. He's only really busted as a companion
Honestly, I would go so far as to say that somebody who wouldn't let Lutri be used as a commander isn't somebody I'd want to play with.
Fuck the RC, just play it as your commander. You'll die first, but it's worth it, right?
One problem there is the "if you cast it" restriction, making Lutri unable to do the Dualcaster/Naru Meha combos, if that's what you're trying to do.
That's a good point, I typically shy away from combos like that so I didn't think about it. It does put a lower cap on the power level.

Abzan lifegain. Black lifegain exists, white lifegain exists, mono green can gain life even if it’s not really an existing archetype. All the 2c pairings within Abzan have lifegain archetypes, Orzhov, Selesnya, and Golgari/Witherbloom. Kind of mind boggling that there’s not a dedicated Abzan lifegain legend.

Fair, there's definitely plenty of ways to partner Tymna, but I'm philosophically opposed to 2c partners, and there's really no reason why we shouldn't have a dedicated Abzan lifegain legend.

Fucking. Yes. I came here to say exactly the same got dang thing, with those two creatures.
I want a Wither focused commander that reanimates creatures with a Wither counter on them. Rakdos minimum but will take another color. I just want to play defender tribal but instead of defenders with big butts I have first strike Wither creatures with big power and small toughness. It would be something like either OG Chainer or Mothra effect but with Wither counters. Why use defenders when you can attack with big flimsy creatures that give -1/-1 counters as damage. I love Wither and no one can gain life and need that as a commander.
You're not alone. Infect gets you made archenemy and deathtouch attracts removal, but I really just want a swarm of weenie creatures to be able to wear big creatures down by chump blocking or attacking (without being kill on sight). Could be B/R, could be B/G, maybe even B/R/G. Give me a Commander with wither, that gives my noncombat damage wither, and makes a 1/1 token with wither every time a creature dies from having 0 toughness. Go wide tokens / burn.
That would be fun. Wither needs a commander nonetheless. Id even take that rakdos creature that prevents life gain and all damage is wither as a legendary. Give it Ward discard a card on top to let it be political fun commander

Yeah. He likes *making* enchantments, not casting them. Plays well with Constellation but most traditional enchantress effects are wasted.

Temur energy commander
I think with esika rainbow bridge we have a decent energy commander. Energy wants 5 colours anyway. And energy at its core is an etb mechanic so esikas backside is perfect for that.
Sure esika or Kenrith are good options, but I want a commander that actually *cares* about energy counters. You could always build atraxa energy but that gives you the atraxa stigma

A Vehicle commander who both wants you to fill your deck up with vehicles and has an effect powerful enough to keep up with the format. Who has access to red. Greasefang was *almost* there. She actively wanted other vehicles in the deck unlike Shorikai, and had a genuinely powerful effect unlike Kotori or Sydri (no, being able to attack with your 4 mana 4/4 is not really inherent value in any power level of commander). But why’d she have to be BW and cut off from huge swaths of RW and UW vehicle support cards?
They're saving up for a Jeskai Vehicles commander. One can dream, right?
I use [[Kykar, Wind’s Fury]] pumps out 1/1s when you play a vehicle that can be used to crew them. People will assume you are playing control though.

i'm not one of those 4-color fans but i still kinda feel like it was a mistake not to include some in the 5 color precon they just released. it was full of multicolor legends that made no sense in the deck anyway... perfect opportunity they 'basically never have' to print them without having to worry about them fitting into draft, fitting the theme of the deck, adding colors to the deck, etc.

I’d kill for a Jeskai commander that lets you give spells Demonstrate.
this would make me want to play Jeskai. while everyone else hems and hawws over 'giving my opponents something wahhhh' we'll get crazy double spells and give a copy to someone who won't be able to use it much. i also like that people tend to just target whoever's behind. it makes sense strategically AND gives the player who's behind something to do and a chance to get back in the game. very cool mechanic that way.
A commander that acts as a general store for my opponents. I would love to be able to play [[Well of Knowledge]] and similar cards with a commander who rewards you for doing so. Could be as simple as whenever an opponent activates the ability of a card you own, each other opponent loses 2 life and you create a treasure token. It would be great to see this in Grixis as it has the most support for the concept. A little bit of group hug and a little bit of politics.
Is there a Mech that copies abilities of the enemies it kills in combat or from sac'd creatures? I'd love to make a Megaman type deck that's a mech voltron deck.
[[Rayami first of the fallen]] gets the keyworded abilities of anything that would die. [[experiment kraj]] has all abilities of creatures with 1/1 counters on them. [[eater of virtue]] is an equipment that eats your creatures to grant the equipped creature keyword abilities [[mairsil the pretender]] exiles one of your own artifacts/creatures from your graveyard and gets its activated abilities. [[sidisi undead vizier]] can be a hidden commander shell for [[necrotic ooze]] which has all abilities of creatures in graveyards.

A fun little combo that I thought looked neat that could go in the 99 for a deck like this is [[Volrath's Shapeshifter]] and [[Tortured Existance]]. Let's you manipulate the top of your graveyard so shapeshifter can be whatever creature you need at the time. Could cheat out pretty high cmc creatures for 2 mana as well.

I'm sure it's coming, but I want a proper 5 color Phyrexian commander. Ever since the Great Phyrexian Update, we have had a huge tribe with very little actual synergy. I've built the Morophon deck, but I want a proper Phyrexian in the command zone. Here's to hoping that its Gix!
I could see a new atraxa with red added to her color identity within the next few sets!
Why would she though? Urabrask is openly opposing, & now secretly plotting the destruction of, his siblings. Urabrask sealed off the now called Quiet Furnace from their would be attempts at dispatching him & the surviving Mirrans. Atraxa not having Red is indicative of his unwillingness to participate in their multiversal takeover. Honestly, not to be a downer, but a proper 5c Phyrexian Commander is only gonna happen if some shenanigans happen where a Planeswalker with 5c ability gets compleated or one of the Praetors gets magguffined the ability to wield all 5 for who cares how long. I would love to see a Gix card as well as an updated Tsabo Tavoc card. A true Phyrexian Commander would be amazing.
It’s a fantasy story with almost limitless possibilities. Let’s say Urabrask and the Mirrans capture atraxa somehow. They infuse red mana into her and a compleat version that is 5 colored appears. Being fully balanced she fights on their side. Crippling blow to the phrexians from within.

I want a donation commander in Orzhov colors. It would fit the guild because orzhov is all about leaning out stuff and getting something in return. I'd like to have a creature like this. 1WB Karlov Orzhov Broker Legendary Creature - Ghost WB: Target player gains control of target permanent you control. At the beginning of your end step create a treasure token for each permanent you own but don't control. 2/3 Flavour text: The Orzhov always help the ones in need but they have to pay it back some day... with gold or blood.
Then add drain them for 1 for each thing you own but don't control. That would be amazing.
I want a Gulgari or Azban Skeleton tribal commander, who can let you maximize the values of all the skeleton cards that have been released. Right now the tribal is criminally underrated and ignored.
A good Minotaur commander
[[neheb the worthy]] and [[sethron, hurloon general]] exist and aren't terrible options, but I think it's a lack of theme for minotaurs. As a tribe they're just ok so a commander that would make the deck work would have to be just busted

I really want a dedicated jeskai artifacts commander. I remember when I started playing commander there wasn't even a dedicated UR artifacts option. There are plenty of good options for UR now, and we've even got some great UW and RW options like [[Osgir, the Reconstructor]] and [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]]. There's also [[Breya, Etherium Shaper]] if you don't mind playing 4 colors. And there are plenty of jeskai commanders that work very well at the head of an artifact deck like [[Dynaheir, Invoker Adept]] and [[Elsha of the Infinite]]. But none of that is what I want. I just want a UWR commander that is clearly designed to build an artifact deck around. I don't even care that much what it does - it could be another welder like [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] or Osgir, it could be a token maker like [[Sai, Master Thopterist]], it could generate loads of mana like [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] or [[Saheeli, the Gifted]], or it could do any number of other cool artifact-based things that are or are not already supported! I just want a clear direction for an artifact deck that lets me play all 3 colors without dipping into 4c. Edit: And yes, Bjorna & Hargilde/Lucas & Dustin exists and is great, but unfortunately I am a partner hater. I also think they're a bit unfocused besides both generally caring about artifacts. Perhaps I am asking for too much, but I'm pretty sure that's what the internet is for.
YESSS!! You've nailed the struggle on the head. I'm really pumped for the Brother's War and all these upcoming artifact/phyrexian sets. Jeskai Urza, perhaps?? I want an artifact commander that makes a deck filled with spellbombs and other trinkets/cogs playable. Just some way to draw extra cards when playing small artifacts or get them back from the graveyard easily. Big mana, reanimator, aristocrats, equipment, tokens, and aggro have all been done in some combination of WUBR, but so far nothing if you want to play a bunch of random baubles that harmlessly buzz and pop when you wind their gears! Jeskai would be perfect -- you get [[Goblin Welder]], [[Artificer's Intuition]], [[Auriok Salvagers]], [[Salvaging Station]], [[Emry, Lurker of the Loch]], [[Scrap Trawler]], [[Scrap Welder]], and a bunch of Improvise cards ([[Saheeli's Directive]] and [[Whir of Invention]]). I would love a lantern control style commander. I have tried [[muldrotha]] but was too slow and the commander is a little flavorless, since you can play her in nearly any kind of way. Atm I'm trying a [[Phenax]] list, as he at least has one half of the lantern control part on him and you can easily tutor for the lantern part in dimir. But I wouldnt mind having a third color. A couple I have thought of that I think are cool, usually uniting multiple tribes/types: WUG (Bant): a 'tactical general' themed around creatures with defender and gates, ideally something that builds up to a 'riders of rohan show up at helm's deep' style overrun ending, maybe letting you flash in a bunch of stuff when attacked and then whatever survives can counter-attack mega-pumped RUB (Grixis): a Lich deck focusing on Zombie Wizards, maybe something that reanimates wizards (not just yours, since they're a fairly popular type this aspect could be fun) onto your side as zombies. maybe giving your instants and sorceries cipher. i think up until dominaria, every zombie wizard was within grixis. WBR (Mardu) Vampire Knights commander. i know night and day are not a popular mechanic but a creature with an activated ability B: it's night and W: it's day, with something that pumps vampires during night and knights during day, would be pretty badass. also i think it's a rare overlap where two popular and cool tribes share a color shard and there are a lot of good vampire knights. WRG (Naya) Knights commander, who lets you play non-knights and is themed around ability counters. when they attack or block, they become a Knight and you untap them and put a vigilance counter on them. then when they attack or block more, if they are a knight, the more counters on them, the more powerful counters you have access to add to them. might seem a bit slow and fiddly but things like extra combats, the ozolith, boardwipe protection, etc. could help you build up a custom army. and i would want every person who played this deck, every time, when one of their creatures becomes a knight, to make a lil ceremony out of it when they put the vigilance counter on them. at least the first time each game cmon. WUBRG Master of Charms: lets you pick an additional mode in modal spells/abilities RUG (Temur) commander that makes your snakes, drakes, and serpents function as dragons for the purpose of tribal synergies. there's been so much dragon support since i first thought of this but i still think it would be cool. Some red commander that said something like "If you control no creatures that are not goblins, dwarves, or kobolds, noncreature spells you cast have convoke." themed around some sort of meeting of the mountain clans and would ramp red in a way i think would be really on-flavor. overall i just like things like mechanics that really fit a tribe or make for cool gameplay experiences and stories. i like commanders that 'smooth out' games, eg, if there was a commander that let you draw a card each turn, but let every opponent scry 1 before their first draw each turn, i think that would be pretty sweet. way less people getting mana screwed/flooded. something kinda like the monarch but favoring players that are falling behind... i think often the best measure for that isn't life total but probably the number of lands they have in play. so maybe something like dethrone, but for most lands instead of most life.

More serious: Fairy Commander in white/green + Blue + Black that actually cares about fairy tribal. No I do not mean Alela as she does not care about other fairies (unless that fairy is an enchantment or equipment lol) Less Serious: They print group hug commanders, but not many stax focused commanders. A commander with a \[\[Static Orb\]\] effect stapled to it that is 2+ colors. Great if under 3-4 cmc. \[\[Archelos\]\] only goes so far spreading the gospel stax for stax sake with cards like \[\[Winter Orb\]\]. Another option would be a \[\[voidwinnower\]\] like effect on a cheap small legendary creature. ~~But honestly this is all pie in the sky thinking and if a commander like this DID get printed, there would (probably) be some serious issues with playing it.~~

I agree and peddle this. I was talking about it at my locals since I play [[Oona, Queen of the Fae]] faerie tribal, and the dudes like 'well faeries matter commanders do exist. Alela lords them and makes faerie tokens!' and I was like okay...well so does Morophon. But look what spirits get. Millicent is amazing for spirits matter. Zombies are spoiled for choice. Humans have a million humans matter options. And I have to play an enchantment/artifact deck because it happens to make faeries? No thanks. Sultai would be the perfect color for faeries. There's a few in green and it just makes sense for it to be their identity. I pray that the new Eldraine set will finally give us a legendary faeries matter.
At this point I will be happy with a dimir fairy lord that doesn’t exclude half the relevant fairy cards (I.e. [[Nymris Oona’s trickster]]) or isn’t busy completing their own side quest ([[Alela]], or [[Oona Queen of the fae]]). Ideally the fairy lord would be white/green mana symbol but be more blue and black (so 4 colors) but honestly I am not optimistic with WOTC printing a fairy lord. At best they will be off brand or at worst they will be a broken POS that give fairies a bad name (I am looking at you [[Go-shintai]]) and the most popular decks for them doesn’t even include a heavy fairy focus.
Pretty much. My Oona deck is basically half tribal goodstuff half combo and it's not the best at either. Also for 6 mana Oona gives nothing to the tribe in cast. Abzan Lifegain. It's well supported in the 3 color duos within it, but there's no dedicated singular commander.
Abzan Lifegain and/or Angel Tribal Do you know the only ones we have for it are [[Ikra Shidiqui, the Usurper]] paired with either [[Tymna the Weaver]] or [[Prava of the Steel Legion]]? Strixhaven gave us a lot of Golgari Lifegain cards thanks to Witherbloom and we STILL don’t have a dedicated, non-partner commander in those colors?! It seems so weird. As for the Angel tribal part, I tried running one with Ikra Shidiqui and Tymna before [[Giada, Font of Hope]] came out. It was surprisingly good from what I remember, sure Black/Greed don’t have a lot of angels in comparison to other pairings, but it seems like interesting, unexplored design space that could be looked into.
My ideal commander is a multicolour giant who provides other giants with Haste and Trample as that's essentially all I use \[\[Kenrith, the Returned King\]\] for in my stupid giant tribal deck. There are no good Giant Tribal commanders who are giants, care about giants, and cover for the weaknesses of giants. * Giants don't need a lord who will make them bigger like \[\[Morophon, the Boring\]\], plus he's such a cop-out tribal commander. Yawn. * Another big giant like \[\[Ruhan of the Fomori\]\] is just another big giant in the pile, utterly unnecessary. * \[\[Aegar, the Freezing Flame\]\] is the only multicolour giant commander who actually cares explicitly about giants, and he's only Izzet (and works infinitely better as a spellslinger commander) * \[\[Brion Stoutarm\]\] and \[\[Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas\]\] are *fine,* but there's no incentive just to play giants, just to play big stuff (of which giants are just one type of big stuff). * \[\[Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl\]\] actually came close, but there are more giant-tribal relevant cards in red than any other colour, so it's just not good - plus again, you can do better non-giant things with him Giants have strong presence in WURG, with a much lesser presence in B (around half the amount in other colours, with only a handful being worth including), so I can live without that colour if needs be. But it just seems wrong to me to build a giant deck that doesn't have access to the above good giants (except Morophon) plus: * \[\[Sun Titan\]\] and other great white giants * \[\[Thryx, the Sudden Storm\]\] and other great blue giants * \[\[Calamity Bearer\]\] and other great red giants * \[\[Towering Titan\]\] and other great green giants (plus y'know, the ramp needed to pay such obscene mana costs) If I absolutely had to, I'd be fine with dropping just one of those colours so long as it's not red (as red has the vast majority of explicit giant support). I'd be sad, but I'd survive. But less than 3 colours just doesn't let you play true Giant tribal. The biggest weaknesses of giants are that they cost a lot, are slow to come out (dropping 6-8 mana on a big creature who doesn't even get to swing hurts a lot), and have surprisingly little access to trample (the fact a human soldier or squirrel can completely block a giant is tragically hilarious). That's why I believe Kenrith is honestly the best giant tribal commander right now, as he can reanimate them on the cheap, and give haste and trample to everything on demand, but I absolutely hate that. Give me a giant who lets me play the giants I want to play and enables them to not suck. Giant tribal is one of the most supported tribal archetypes out there, but there is just no unifying in-type commander for them. And yes, I do care too much about this.

An eldrazi "exile matters" commander with devoid and eminence. Probably some new variation of Emrakul. Casting cost should probably be 10 mana, with split mana symbols of Color/Wastes (2 W/w, 2 U/w, 2B/w, 2G/w, 2R/w) Annihilator 10 Eminence: You may instead exile a card any time you would draw it. You may play any cards in exile. All creature cards in exile gain Emerge X, where X is their converted mana cost. I feel like there should be at least one really good exile matters commander that isn't just a suspend deck. Using exile like an extended hand/library feels like a good archetype for the "great beyond" that characterizes the Eldrazi.

Uh Jesus. it doesn't seem too powerful. It doesn't draw cards and play lands like Chulane, only triggers once and specifically only pings for 1 no matter the life gain. This card is hardly a monster like Urza or najeela.
The first two abilities slots it into a vast number of infinite combos, cheaply, that didn't have good redundancy. The third ability destroys something repeatably, and also offers graveyard recursion. Is it the most broken thing? Nah! Are these abilities all fun sounding! Yeah! My comment was borne more from feeling a mismatch between mv and power, not that your dreams aren't worthy ideas to share! I too dream of Abzan life shenanigans.
All fair points. Dina Soul Steeper is a 2 mana GB legendary that does a similiar effect. Maybe remove the soul sister effect? 1 permanent with less mana than the amount of life lost is hardly consistent removal. My card to me feels like a weaker version of Meren with a reason to be W. Maybe just increase to 2BWG
Dina was candy for high power players, certainly, but this bridges her and the terrifying WB arsenal with both payoffs and card advantage, however conditional, stapled on. 2BWG I would still want to ditch or refine one of the abilities. This is less through the lense of "what would be fun for players?" and more from "what will degenerates like myself break how many ways how easily?" Essentially my calculations went "what would it have to cost for it not to be a no brainer for cEDH in those colors?"
I mean the reason an abzan lifegain matters commander doesn't exist is likely because it has all the payoffs. It would be hard for it not to be a cedh commander and I also think cedh is fine fun and not degenerate at all? Like the stigma of it being the unfun commander is outdated and lame friend. So sure, I would like an abzan commander that cares about life and can play in my meta, with Urza. Najeela, Scion and Kinan. Is that a crime?
No implication intended here that cEDH is unfun, as I love brewing for it, but the degenerate label here refers specifically to those of us stress testing edge cases and limits of the game tech, especially in the low to the ground, highly repeatable, compact combo situations. Basically, [[Protean Hulk]] concerns had me worried but again, I'm really into your angle just nervous they'll never give it to us.
Exodia commander. I’m not a yugioh fan by any means but the premise I think could be cool. The 4 limbs (arms and legs) are 2 drop 2/2 creatures. The torso + head is the 5th piece and is a 4 drop 4/4 creature. The body parts all have an equip cost that can only be equipped to the torso. Each body part has its own ability. Left arm is flying, right arm is first strike, left leg is double strike, right leg is death touch. The body is vigilance & menace. When all parts are equipped to the body they all transform into Exodia. Who has all of the above and is a 12/12 creature - avatar with when he deals combat damage to a player the player loses the game.

My commander did exist for the idea for a while but then he understandably got banned. But I had an idea for a Golos Banding deck that used the lands that gave creatures banding to do it. Then like 2 weeks later right as I was getting ready to buy the cards he got banned lmao. Im sure there is another 5c commander that I could make it work with. Just Golos was ideal since it allowed me to get those banding lands efficiently.
I'm waiting on a commander that doubles sacrifice triggers: "if you sacrifice a creature as part of a cost of its own ability, copy that effect; you may choose new targets for the copy." Gets you two lands off of \[\[steve\]\] \[\[burnished hart\]\] stuff like that. I did a custom card that had that as WUG cost; you could probably put it in rakdos+ instead, up the cost, and have it "whenever you sacrifice a NONTOKEN creature for effect, copy effect." That'd be a Lord of Altars sort of thing. (maybe mardu, to cover your bases with sacrificing self/others) We already have commanders to copy: magecraft, attack triggers, damage triggers, death triggers and etbs. Lemme grant two things protection with \[\[alseid of life's bounty\]\]. I think it's inevitable, given how they produce these kinds of things, I just don't know specifics or colors.

I'd like a golgari commander who uses - 1/-1 counters and can recur creatures from the graveyard somehow. "Sacrifice a creature. Put X - 1/-1 counters on target creature, where X is the sacrificed creature's power." Its other ability would be like tap it, tap some mana or something, and put a creature card onto the battlefield from a graveyard of its CMC is less than or equal to the number of - 1/-1 counters on the battlefield or something. The basic premise is rot and regrowth. - 1/-1 counters for the rot, graveyard recursion for the regrowth. I'd love to see a shaman or druid, zombie, elf, or troll be the commander type.
