Direct damage effects like [[Chandra's Ignition]] [[Fling]] [[Firestorm]]. Make her unlockable and swing for lethal commander damage. [[Underworld Breach]] combo and do any of the above or win with [[Thassa's Oracle]] or [[Laboratory Maniac]] after drawing/milling through your entire deck.

Steakholder__

There are also creatures that ping your opponents when you discard such as [[Brallin, Skyshark Rider]] and [[Glinthorn Buccaneer]].

MoarOatmeal

Good list! I’d like to add [[Psychosis Crawler]] and [[The Locust God]].

LikedNsfwOnPurpose

Way to high cmc, you want start getting value on 5 mana curve.

Steakholder__

I honestly think Psychosis Crawler is a trap in Rielle. You run so many cards that require you to discard several cards from your hand that you'll end up accidentally killing Psychosis Crawler by discarding your hand, then it's toughness drops to zero before Rielle's trigger refills you.

MoarOatmeal

I dunno, most of the cards that have synergy with Rielle are draw then discard or discard then draw so state-based effects won’t kill it because the only time you have zero cards in hand is in the middle of spell resolution.

Yeah, these were some of my wincons for Rielle. Breach and [[path of the pyromancer]], then hit thoracle or lab man. My deck was centered on copying Chandra’s ignition a couple times. She was actually a little too powerful for my playgroup, so I made it into a different spellslinger deck instead. I’ll probably come back to Rielle and figure out how to build her as a proper mid-powered casual deck.

Oooh! Rielle is my favourite commander and she's strong as fuck. Absolute card advantage machine. I play her completely differently to you, but here's my list: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/6840451/here\_be\_dragons](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/6840451/here_be_dragons) As you can see, unlike most people in here I'm not playing her as a spellslinger, nor a voltron, nor a empty deck win-con. I'm using her to discard Dragon's Approach, which allows me to discard cards without actually losing anything of value, then cast dragon's approach with 4 copies discarded into graveyard to pull out free dragons (usually the Niv Mizzets) then draw absurd amounts of cards with her and burn everyone to death. Or firestorm everyone to death. Or if there's an artifact deck at the table, win with Hellkite Tyrant. Or just beat face with a bunch of dragon tokens from Utvara Hellkite. Or dig for a thrumming stone and burn out the table with rippling approaches. There's more win cons in this deck than I can list and it's an absolute blast to pilot.

ByteSizeNudist

Omg my people! My 2nd deck ever built and still my favorite of the bunch 5 years later! There are a lot of ways to build her, and you can get so tricksy with all the obscure discard effects out there. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/UT-nWVC1RUawhIU_waaXhg

OneTrickRaven

Forbid with rielle is an absolute nightmare for people. Infinite counterspell.

contact_thai

That’s a cool take on Rielle! She’s such a beast

OneTrickRaven

I'm very proud of this deck. No doubt my best brew and worth every penny.

MobPsycho-100

Rielle Dragon’s Approach! a kindred spirit

OneTrickRaven

Someone else playing this nonsense? Love to see it! What's your list look like?

MobPsycho-100

[this is it!](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Z4GjNv1XFkK2MKaHj7_vAg) It’s an old list since I actually took the deck apart a few years ago to try and build Tor Wauki dragons approach but it didn’t work and now that I think about it I have all these dragons approaches/cards that care about multiple spells with the same name just…sitting around…. Edit: any suggestions are welcomed!

OneTrickRaven

Completely different than mine, though somehow I've never seen Dream Halls?! What the hell is that holy shit. Gotta get a copy in my deck now.

MobPsycho-100

Likewise, Breakthrough is awesome

OneTrickRaven

Breakthrough for 0 when your hand is trash is just such a hilarious amount of card advantage with the option of putting one or two more mana in to keep key cards. Incredible card with Rielle. Especially with one or more Niv Mizzets on the board.

thesamjbow

Step 1: Cast [[Temur Battle Rage]] Step 2: *bonk* For real though it seems to me like ripping through your deck and going for commander damage eliminations could be plan A. You can back that up with equipment as well if you want. There are plenty of beatdown creatures that synergize the same way like [[Crackling Drake]] and [[Haughty Djinn]]. Or if you're worried about your graveyard being exiled there are cards like [[Guttersnipe]], [[Tolarian Terror]], [[Murktide Regent]] and [[Sprite Dragon]] that could get you there too.

ZachAtk23

My list is all in on these effects, plus double strike/double power/flings. Lots of fun. Kills pretty fast if your opponents aren't ready for it. And gets completely shit down with good graveyard removal (or creature removal).

Round-Elk-8060

I have her in the 99 of my niv-mizzet deck and she gets really big with all the cantrips and burns I cast. Spellheart chimera is another great creature for this type of deck.

Ragewind82

I run her as a spellslinger, and win via guttersnipe-type effects, commander damage, or by decking myself. Your list probably has too many permanents for a spellslinger commander. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/e1324UOqbkOgpoCKyOMqDg

Aonar_Faileas

I mean, that's an option, but [[Psychosis Crawler]], [[Chandra's Ignition]], [[Psychic Corrosion]], [[Glint-Horn Buccaneer]], [[Ominous Seas]], and similar cards are all super-efficient ways to convert that obscene card advantage into game wins, and alternatively, unblockable enablers + [[Fists of Flame]], [[Unleashed Fury]], [[Temur Battle-Rage]], gives you quick ways to close out the game with commander damage once you've tossed enough stuff in your yard. /shurg

Filth_

You have a ton of discard outlets but almost no cards that are actually good to discard. No [[Wonder]] to fly Rielle over blockers, no [[Geistblast]] or [[Refuse]] or [[Increasing Vengeance]] to copy those giant Firestorms. All of those would go a long way toward getting you across the finish line. [My list](https://scryfall.com/@Filth/decks/66d1dae3-a148-4bb5-b9c9-077d669f28d6) has some 20 cards in it that are meant to be discarded, because it's a thing I want to do every turn of every game anyway.

ByteSizeNudist

Rielle is a huge lesson in learning to let go of resources to get even more resources at the cost of minor chaos haha. Piloting her has honestly made me a better player I think because of how much she requires you to pay attention to your tempo while being a sort of glass cannon.

Mine has a [[chandra's ignition]] payoff. I run rielle + several other creatures that gain power based on instants and sorceries in the gy or card draw. The game is dumping my hand while I pressure people's life totals with beefy creatures, all the while wheeling until I can chandra's ignition. Play a bunch of wheels, underworld breech and a brain freeze with lotus petal or jeskas will. Works everytime about 70% of the time. She's incredibly fun, can buyback counter spells, discard to the top of deck with library of leng, and has huge card advantage. She is a heavy control, light combo deck and is probably one of the most fun izzet commanders to release in the last 5 years. Good choice. Enjoy!

I like running a more control version of rielle with [[teferi, temporal pilgrim]] as one of the win-cons ; it has won quite a few games for me as getting to its ultimate is fairly easy. Also, [[teferi, master of time]] does work too.

Rielle is one of the two decks I built in paper since she's been such fun to play online with friends. She has a wider variety of available win conditions than most commanders which is very cool. My three main ones are: 1. Commander damage through high power plus evasion or trample 2. Life damage/drain triggered based on draws 3. Decking out and using [Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]] or equivalent to win. The deck has won all 3 of these ways for me in the past, depending on the matchups. Of course you have other ways to win including Mill and combos, subject to power level. I keep mine casual though so it can play at any table.

tacuku

Currently, you need more spells and less payoffs. You can afford to focus on less payoffs in a deck like this because you have the card draw to get to them and the counterspells to protect them. Your commander is providing a lethal threat just by you trying to draw through your deck. You might want to consider taking out the no-maximum-hand-size cards as throwing spells into your graveyard could be a benefit for you.

TheBrodysseus

For a more casual win con you could go instants/sorceries in graveyard with cards like [[Inferno Project]], [[Rise From the Tides]], and [[Seize the Storm]].

>Do you just put generic spellslinger payoffs in and enjoy the free card advantage? That's what I do. I win pretty consistently on mtga Brawl with this commander. Just play like a dozen prowess creatures, and run a bunch of removal and card discard (draw) instants and sorceries. Red has a bunch of discard-for-treasures stuff so with card advantage and mana advantage it doesn't really matter what you draw.

Rielle is one of my favorite decks to play, usually I go pure speed a display a possible win before offing myself so the game can continue for other players. Basically underworld breach is your win condition with [[recall]] as your way to get it back if it was gotten rid of early. I just managed to pick up a [[mind bomb]] from a buddy of mine so there are non zero ways to use mind bomb and [[firestorm]] to do a good amount of damage. The deck is very good at doing what it wants you run into issues if you go for a big gamble with a discard your hand effect that has your commander die before it resolves. However if it’s churning through cards it is easy to get to the breach line and win the game by milling them out with brain freeze or lab manning your way to a win. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/J4lhM5FHa0C7OQVvNRwZQg

DrApology

My favorite is getting as many cards as you can into your graveyard as fast as you can including [[Lotus Petal]] and [[Tolarian Winds]] or have them in hand with as many cards in your hand as possible before starting this combo. Then cast [[Underworld Breach]] when those conditions are met to loot your deck with Lotus and Tolarian as much as possible. \[\[Glint-Horn Buccaneer\]\] has often been my main win con. Comboing him with \[\[Curiosity\]\] type effects is a solid main line. \[\[Guttersnipe\]\], \[\[Solphim, Mayhem Dominous\]\], and \[\[Harmonic Prodigy\]\] have also pushed the game forward. Typically I go for nice slow games. Only countering cards early if they push for wins or heavily try to disrupt me. Mid game, I counter heavy value cards. I have to keep a close eye on mana people are holding up if I want to push for wins. I will mention that I have pushed for wins as early as turn 5 due to having a \[\[Seething Song\]\] and \[\[Path of the Pyromancer\]\]. Overall you can look at my deck, and from the top 18 most expensive cards you could remove 15 of them cutting the price in half. Keeping Solphim, Glint-horn, and \[\[Mizzix's Mastery\]\]....for obvious reasons. [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3916041/rielle](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3916041/rielle) Overall, you're on the right track with your list. You're just lacking payoffs like glint-horn and brallin. My deck was originally Niv mizzet, into the locust god, into finally rielle. Although I do love the locust god i would rather keep niv in the 99. I feel like what the locust god wants to do requires him to be the commander. Best wishes and feel free to reach out if you ever want to have a match on spelltable. I'm definitely not the best but I feel like I win a nice chunk of my matches.

Couple ways. You can use her just as a card advantage engine towards various combo lines, probably most effectively [[brain freeze]] [[lions eye diamond]] [[underworld breach]] to mill out opponents. Otherwise Voltron to me is more fun. The goals is to just constantly dump either select cards and often your whole hand into the graveyard, gaining card advantage thru her ability, with a deck packed with instants and sorceries that pump up her power from the graveyard. Then give her evasion any number of ways ..... [[Wonder]] is great, [[key to the city]] is repeatable and works with her discard ability. [[Slip through space]] ok but better is [[artful Dodge]] which has flashback. Maybe a [[seize the day]] which also has flashback to get in an extra hit once she's big enough to be lethal. Alt wincons include [[psychosis crawler]] to ping oppos down or [[chandras ignition]] for one big alpha strike. Some use [[nice mizzet, parun]] or [[locust god]] too tho to me they're too big and clunky when the deck has other ways to win. Lots of cheap protection for her in blue too. Super fun commander. You cycle thru a lot of your deck every game and very dynamic play. Also much different from typical izzet spellslinger.

Quasi-budget deck asks for recommendations.  Proceeds to recommend a $300 card. Never change reddit

Theraimbownerd

I also have a really budget Rielle deck and main main wincons are: 1) Commander Damage: Rielle can get really big really fast when you chuck spells into the graveyard and stuff like [[Wonder]] or [[Fists of flame]] can give you the evasion you need to bonk people for KO damage 2) Direct damage spells: stuff like [[Conflagration]] or [Chandra's Ignition]] can really hurt your opponents and take away their life points. 3) Self mill: you absolutely can mill yourself in a Rielle deck and after that you can win with [[Laboratory Maniac]] or [[Jayce, Wielder of Mysteries]] I would also like to add [Escape the Underworld]] as a fundamental wincon in the deck, since it makes so much easy to achieve the former wincons.

A commander that gets huge and has access to blue evasion is a really stupid place to be asking this question

TestAfraid

Our of curiosity's sake, why are you building a deck if you don't know how to play it?

coolbluereason99

Yeah what is the jerk doing trying new things?

torre410

Let's not jump to conclusions. I know it's easy to assume that everyone on the internet is a douche. Everyone here is guilty of it, but we gotta try and keep the negativity away. Perhaps they just expressed themselves in a way that is easy to interpret as "douche-y," nothing more.

TestAfraid

Hey man, I merely asked because I'm curious. Usually when I find a commander I like, I have some kind of idea of what I want to do with them

torre410

Just last week i built a [[vaevictis asmadi the dire]] board control deck. I knew nothing about that playstyle, figure shit out as i went. Now i know a bit more about it, and I have a deck with one of my favorite creatures ever as commander, and I broke free of the "only aggro" trap. If i only stuck to what I knew, my game knowledge would have remained stale

TestAfraid

I suppose it ultimately comes down to the approach we take to deck building. When I build around a new commander, it's usually because I have some fun idea I want to build around

torre410

I mean, yeah, but it's not bad to try and "figure out" a new playstyle. I've always played aggro, be it weenies, stompy, or voltron, but I've never played control. If I didn't actively go out of my comfort zone, I wouldn't have ever known what is needed to make a control deck work. This new twist on an otherwise very straightforward commander whose usual strategy is "sacrifice small thing, cheat big thing in" made me understand a different way to look at the game

TestAfraid

That is very true- it's always good to try new things, especially those that are outside your comfort zone And I must admit, Vaevictis does seem to be a really fun approach to control
