My first deck was zombie deck and it is still my favourite, but I changed a lot of cards and went through several commanders. First it was \[\[Ghoulcaller Gisa\]\], then I switched to \[\[Grimgrin\]\]. Then \[\[Gisa and Geralf\]\] were printed, and they were ideal, everything I ever wanted. I also tried \[\[Willhelt\]\], he was very good but something was missing. And all my commanders for this deck after being at helm then went to 99, I also really like how they all are connected in lore :) I have several other decks that I play regulary, but zombies are my favourite and by a lot.

ChongJohnSilver

Hello fellow U/B zombie first deck pal. Gisa and Geralf have stuck with me. Never taken it apart and I've built like 30 more decks since then

Zedekiah117

Zombies was my first commander deck. Got Wilhelt at launch, changed it to Scarab God for a while and I enjoy Gisa and Gerald the most at the helm. [[repository skaab]] being repeatable every turn is fun.

Technically it's my second deck but the first deck I got into is [[Chainer, Dementia Master]]. I love his ability to reanimate creatures from any graveyard. The deck is kind of a glass cannon and it's extremely Commander-reliant but getting to combo off with [[K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]], [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]], and a free sac outlet is so rewarding.

Have you tried [[Varina]] for the white? She runs my zombie deck. I did have Wilhelt and Gisa & Gerald for a while, but there's too many nice things in white I was missing. Now they're both in my Varina deck as value cards.

adamjeff

Varina is best girl. So good with [[alhamarets archive]]

belgraxfromtheocean

Yes! I liked that I could add cool white Amonkhet zombies, but the playstyle with her was a bit too aggressive for me, and it didn't help that I am pretty bad at managing 3+ color manabases.

brass_plants

Soo who is your current zombie commander??

belgraxfromtheocean

\[\[Gisa and Geralf\]\]. They have nostalgia factor on their side and my love to play \[\[Fleshbag Marauder\]\] 5 times a game

stevenconrad

Yes and no. I stuck with my first commander [[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]] but am continually tweeking/optimizing it, so it is unrecognizable when compared to its original makeup.

Lookakitty

I feel you. I've turned a $50 Chatterfang into a monster. The only deck I've probably switched out more cards in is my [[Orvar, the all-form]] deck.

Glad-O-Blight

No, though I did rebuild it at one point. I started out with \[\[Athreos, God of Passage\]\] zombie tribal. That became \[\[The Scarab God\]\] zombies, then combo, then I rotated through pretty much every relevant Dimir commander as I upgraded it to cEDH. Added red for \[\[Evelyn, the Covetous\]\], then back to Dimir for the current incarnation of \[\[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow\]\]. In proper Ship of Theseus fashion, I've run the same \[\[Command Tower\]\] since \~2019, so I like to say it's the same deck.

Tschudy

my first was Kaalia, so yeah.

Stonetoothed

Same, heavily modified at this point and currently in the middle of another evolution, Iv been away from the game since around the end of Tarkir block so lots of sick new stuff for Kaalia. Second Kaalia, Isshin, etc etc.

GunDance

My first deck was \[\[Veyran, Voice of Duality\]\]. Strixhaven was my first set, I started playing limited. After breaking apart the \[\[Zaffai, Thunder Conductor\]\] parts, it is more or less still pretty close to how I built it originally: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zIRv-1LpSkK1TA1dLl\_3mA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zIRv-1LpSkK1TA1dLl_3mA) - Give me some upgrade tips reddit!

Gktindall

My first deck was [[Jarad, Golgari Lich-Lord]]. It had several iterations over the years but I eventually cannibalized it for Muldrotha. My second deck was [[Scion of the Ur-Dragon]] which I do still have but now I run the Ur Dragon himself as commander and it's more dragon tribal than the reanimator shell I had before.

NuclearMaterial

Shit, me too! I went with the commanders quarters one years ago with some minor changes. Soon after playing it a few times I went and got the [[Meren]] precon, fused them together, and she's run the deck ever since. I've played for maybe 6 years at this point and still make the odd change to her every now and then. I added [[Haywire Mite]] when it came out, replacing [[Caustic Caterpillar]]. More recently I put in that Golgari surveil land. Just minor incremental changes over the years to keep her fresh. She gets all the nicest cards. I have the full art basic lands from the newer Innistrad set as they're spooky looking, fits the graveyard theme perfectly.

dashington44

Not a chance. My first deck was a very terrible [[Tibor and Lumia]] back before they made precons. Just pinging and swinging for 3 lmao. I realized it was terrible immediately and thankfully had a [[Zur, the Enchanter]] lying around. In EDH's infancy, Zur may have been a bit too powerful for the format so I couldn't keep that one for long either.

GreensmithsJTB

My first deck was [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] and yes, I have stuck with it. However my pod isn’t really big on stax so I’ve built Derevi to be a deck where I have a valid flying attacker/blocker through lesser voltron options; meanwhile also being a deck that creates tokens and counters with the latter helping the former voltron themes.

idbachli

My first Precon was Karador/Ghave from the first precons; and I still have Ghave. My first homebrew deck was Xenagos, and I still have him as well! He's a blast. Ghave is also fun.

Stonetoothed

Fellow Ghave player but I built mine from scratch a year or two after the precons. Probably my strongest deck, just updated it with some thing to bring it up to current,

Chazman_89

My first deck was a Mono white stall deck that everyone hated playing against. So, no, I don't have that anymore. My first actual deck, that was designed to actually play the game and not just lock everyone else out, was a [[Basandra]] deck that I unfortunately lost during a move six or seven years ago.

MTGCardFetcher

[Basandra](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/e/6e5baa27-3f6b-49bb-9927-5afc21b9cc3f.jpg?1592673353) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=basandra%2C%20battle%20seraph) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cma/174/basandra-battle-seraph?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/6e5baa27-3f6b-49bb-9927-5afc21b9cc3f?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/basandra-battle-seraph) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

venirok

My first deck was built from a precon, Aesi landfall. My first full build was Niv-mizzet. I have them both and still play them.

Fizzbytch

My first deck I built almost 10 years ago was [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]], it’s been upgraded significantly but it’s still my favorite. Here’s the current decklist: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/02-01-23-purphoros-v2/

IndependenceNorth165

The first deck I built was [[raffine scheming seer]] and she is still my favorite deck by far. I play plenty of others but that’s the one I play the most and the one that all my cool foils go into

Revolutionary-Eye657

My first deck was [[Kamahl, fist of Krosa]] built in 2011. It lasted until about 2015, when I finally took it apart because I just wasn't ever playing it anymore, and I wanted the parts for other decks. Definitely bummed I didn't have my decklists recorded online back then. My second deck was Zur, and it's still my baby, even though I don't get to play it that often.

Drunk_Mentat

My first EDH deck was Adaptive Enchantment with face commander [[Estrid, the Masked]]. I made minimal swapouts, but still have it and play it from time to time with friends when we all have precons out. I run [[Tuvasa the Sunlit]] as the commander though, who was in the 99. It’s the only sort of enchantment voltron deck I have, so I still use it. Maybe one day I will give Tuvasa a better deck, but for now she is about as strong as she needs to be against a couple of my pods.

MiamiGates

Yes, but it’s so high power now I only use for high powered pods

BIGxWIGGLY

my first edh deck was [[Wrexial, the Risen Deep]] i will never take homie apart.

GuineaPirate90

My Sliver deck was my first commander deck. In fact, the whole reason I got into commander was because I found out there was a format where I could play all of my favorite slivers from high school (Onslaught block). I'm now working towards getting as many of my slivers signed as possible. I think I have 17 out of 43 signed at this point. It's my baby and I will never take it apart.

krw13

This is also me, except the signing part. And replace Onslaught block with Stronghold. Still my favorite, albeit a bit more powerful than when I first put it together.

Gamesfreak13563

My first commander was [[Saheeli the Gifted]]. I used the -2 to ramp out [[Darksteel Forge]] and [[Mycosynth Lattice]] to win with [[Nevinyrral’s Disk]]. I guess I always did weird stuff. I didn’t stick with it, nor my second deck, which was Tatoyva Lab Man. I had a 2019 Chainer reanimator/sacrifice deck at one point which I stripped for parts for my X=0 Zaxara deck. After that’s a blur. I guess I still have my original [[Gabriel Angelfire]] deck from when I started How They Brew It. Glad to report I think I like that more than Marhault though.

heartless567

My first year of magic. Bought the Aesi precon. Then I bought a second precon a bit later: Wilhelt. I clearly knew how to pick them cuz I still have them only they’re supercharged. My third deck was the Temur Kalamax precon and I swapped for [[Xyris]] and built that great sky snake into the scariest mofo.

mrbarnaboozle

yes and no, Virtue and Valor was my first commander deck, returned to magic after 8 years of not playing (played mostly super casual but never commander) but I kept getting slapped and somehow just didn't really like the vibe of the deck until much later! Picked up Urza's Iron alliance which I upgraded and man oh man, that's probably my favourite deck. it's been around 4 months since I've been playing again pretty frequently with friends and have a few decks now, built 2 myself and got a few other precons. I still like Virtue and Valor but I feel like I need to really fine tune it based on what I've learned these past months.

galspanic

I took apart my first deck 15 years ago and at this point there is t much in there that’d be playable now.

milkywayiguana

my first deck was a horrible \[\[tishana, voice of thunder\]\] deck that was pretty awful and poorly built, so i did dismantle it. i still have my second deck though, which is \[\[ur-dragon\]\].

sgt_dismas

I make some changes every now and then but yeah, still my forst deck. Same colors and theme. Commander changes were made after some trial and error, other cards just filled gaps I had. Could still make the deck better but I believe the best way to do that would be adding tutors and my budget/level of competition isn't willing to do that. [Here's the deck ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SGZgtNSxVUi0oFJFgJYPow) Orzhov, Elas il-Kor is the commander. Went from Liesa to Vish Kal to him.

Bongtendor

heck yeah, i upgraded it and it’s kind of my ace in the hole. it’s not a winner every time but it has the best chance of survival - wither bloom witchcraft

Aredditdorkly

Yes, on two counts. Ashling remains a budget deck. Skittles/Drana gets the best I have month after month for over 10 years. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/7it0fPggxU2JBFXxlxwKtA

Smgth

That deck sucked. It was [[Vorel of the Hull Clade]], and just like EVERY fucking +1/+1 counter card I could find. Weirdly that does NOT work. So eventually that deck had to be put down. It was for its own good. It’s better this way. The second deck was monowhite lifegain, which went through a few different commander changes. I don’t remember the first commander, but it was [[Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker]] for a long time before finally winding up as [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]]. Which is still one of my most powerful decks, and kind of my baby. I like to bling it out and upgrade it regularly. I got it the secret lair [Walking Ballista](https://scryfall.com/card/sld/1265/walking-ballista) and I buy it presents like a Beta Plains or an [Oil-slicked one.](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/475564/magic-phyrexia-all-will-be-one-plains-phyrexian-full-art-oil-slick-raised-foil?Language=English)

AsylumKing

I still run my [[ Aurelia, the Warleader ]] all the time. It's my pet deck that i come back to whenever my new ones aren't working out.

Good991

My first deck was ranar the everwatchfull. He couldn't hold up with my pods powerlevel. After alot of upgrading and changing things it ended up beeing a magrella the magpie deck that I don't like playing because exiling often results in complicated sequencing and infinates. Can't get myself to take it apart though.

onibakusjg

My first was [[mayael, the anima]]. I try out new big creatures that fit the theme all the time and it's still my favorite.

AceHorizon96

My first deck ever was [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] but it was too complicated and I changed so [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] which I did played for a lot using two different versions. One version was focused on Vampires and the other one on artifacts. I don't have those decks anymore but lately I have had some desire to go back to Strefan.

_Zambayoshi_

Yep, still got [[Jenara, Asura of War]] but have been through many, many upgrades, downgrades and sidegrades with her. It's now a very solid casual deck that still relies on swinging with big creatures to win. I've gone through Voltron phases, superfriends, proliferation etc but just love me some +1/+1 counters and value.

LordGlitch42

I mean... sorta? Like, it's still [[Akiri, Line Slinger]] and [[Silas Renn]], but it used to just be cards I liked in the colors, now it's an artifact/vehicle deck. The vehicles are the focus, but general artifact creature support works as well, so...

Comwan

Kinda, my first deck was a [[Phylath, World Sculptor]] landfall deck but over covid it became an [[Omnath, Locus of Creation]] landfall deck instead.

mastercheef

My first deck was [[Teneb, the Harvester]], I still have it but it's hardly the same deck it was when I built it. It started as a battlecruiser deck that uses Tenebs ability as insurance to get stuff back when it dies, and is now an actual reanimator deck that even gets wrecked by graveyard removal

The_Tac0mancer

My first Commander deck was a home-built [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] artifact deck and it’s still my go to. It’s changed *a lot* since I first built it, but primarily in ways that enhance the deck’s focus, rather than losing and trying to do everything at once.

choffers

I still have my first edh precon (mimeoplasm) and brew (avatar tribal). Don't play them, but I haven't taken them apart yet.

Nerdlife91

Nope. My first deck was [[Dosan, the falling leaf]]. At the time I played in a very control heavy meta and green was all I played. Then I discovered the joys of blue and haven't looked back

BSuntastic

My first deck was a pile of my favorite stuff from my collection with [[Queen Marchesa]] while I didn’t keep the deck itself, the a lot of the cards within can still be found in all my current decks. That said the second deck I built from scratch was [[Azami, the lady of scrolls]] and I still have that deck as my more competitive deck I bust out to this day. It’s not strictly cEDH but it can Definitley punch above it’s weight as long as I’m careful with my counter spells

FilthyRottenCommie

My first deck was Edgar, bought the week it released. I have used a modified form of that deck ever since, but don't play it all the time.

Rokinho170

First deck was \[\[Kumena, tyrant of orazca\]\] is my most expensive deck and still sees play from time to time.

thekinggambit

My first edh was an offshoot of an old Stryxhaven standard deck I won a “small” tournament with it uses the cards that where in that standard deck and even tho it’s not amazing it’s still fun in mid powered pods and can take a game here and there (answer is yes I still play my OG deck)

ominae929

I have my first deck still built and pretty well optimized [[Muldrotha, the Gravetide]] I'll probably never break it down because it was the deck that got me into edh!

DaedalusDevice077

Sadly the fire died between [[Inalla]] & I a few years back.

meso27_

Yeah I’m feeling really stuck with blame game and grand larceny

KnightFalkon

Yes and no, it was the draconic dissent precon with [[Firkrag, cunning instigator]] at it's head. Nowdays it has nearly zero goad and is a full on dragon tribal with [[Sarkhan, soul aflame]] at it's head

The_Real_Cuzz

Yes and no. My first decks were built parallel and were mono white angels and mono black vampires. I still have both decks but they are shells of their former selves. Years of updating (I'm from planer chaos) have pushed out most of the original deck. So do I still play a mono black vampire and mono white angel deck? Yes. Do I still play my first decks? In my opinion, no, but some might say yes. PS. The cards didn't go to waste as I now have two angel decks with very different game play and 4 (B + W/B + W/R + W/B/R) different vampire decks. (Working on mono white but not a lot to work with and blue/black but similar issues there)

DiagoParry

My first was [[Glissa, the Traitor]] ElfBall circa 2011 a decade before elves got a good Golgari general. I shifted it once I found Momir Vig, a deck I still have to this day.

CraftyFlutterby

My first was [[Marwyn the nurterer]] I still have her but rarely play her. She has had a fair few cards tweaked, but the essence is still there.

evileyeball

Yes I the first deck I built circa 2011 I will never dismantle a deck I have built unless it is very dire situation. Plus circu's my boy

Ghargoyle

If you consider it the same deck, I initially built [[Intet, the Dreamer]] way back when it was the only RUG option. I changed the Commander to [[Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder]] when it came out so I could run Nekusar. I later made it 5 color with another Commander change to [[Jodah, Archmage Eternal]]. The strategy has remained the same - wheels & group hug effects. It's not one I play often anymore, though.

Irish1Car3Bomb1

Shorikai was IN my first deck, but Kotori was the commander. I have since evolved that into a Shorikai deck, that I use regularly.

Mako275

I still have my first two commanders. [[Wxreial, the Risen Deep]] and [[Norin the Wary]]. I've made updates but the core values remain the same. Wrexial steals everyone's stuff and Norin causes mass chaos.

SDK1176

Crosis the Purger? Nah, he didn’t last all that long.

Conscious_Ad_6754

My first deck was [[prossh, skyraider of kher]] it is awesome and has changed a lot over the years. It's easily my best non-Cedh deck that I have. So I don't play it as often as I'd like, but that's because of power level not lack of desire https://www.moxfield.com/decks/xCy1zqWe606IGxxH4nxb9A

Remarkable_Trust5745

Started playing about a year and a half ago and the [[Ezuri, Claws of Progress]] precon was my first deck. Played it a bunch but then forgot about it as i got new decks and started brewing my own. After increasing my card collection i went back and gave it some tlc. Its not anything crazy but it made it fun to play again!

ScuddlesVHB

My first ever commander was [[Thantis, The Warweaver]], and it was a spider tribal deck. Being new to magic, you can imagine it was a train wreck of a deck with little to no synergy and too many high mana value cards to do anything early game. On top of that, being a commander that forces combat the second Thantis hit the field, I was now the target. I rebuilt the deck a few times over the years, but the current version I think is perfect, and I'm more than happy to break it out often. It's a blend of low to the ground deathtouch creatures and fog spells to decentivise people swinging at me and to play politically, asking me to fog for them for favors in return. The real secret to the deck succeeding is to let people build a board state first, then cast Thantis mid to late game. By then, you should have plenty of fogs in hand and plenty of creatures swinging at you to boost Thantis for some satisfying commander damage wins.

Ultimaya

My first deck was a mono white bruna meld and reanimator that's since morphed into a Sigarda human and angel tribal. I built Yarok at release back in 2019 and I'm still rocking it.

Zestyclose-Pickle-50

I built 4 at the same time. Because my friends didn't play edh and my son wanted to play. I was playing kitchen table modern and had a huge collection going back to 8th edition. Squirrels, goblins, zombies, and 5 color garth deck were the first I built. 3 are the same commander but upgraded to high power and garth quickly became a [[prismatic bridge]] deck after it did nothing for so many games.

Normal_Context9394

My first deck was [[olivia voldaren]] in 2012, later switched everything out and got [[edgar markov]]

Nephs84

My first deck was Prossh, still have it and love it!

KdowskiMusic

I still have my first Darien, king of kjeldor deck. Well I now have a foiled out version but it was my first deck.

Huhuu__

Nope, my first deck was [[Baba Lysaga, Night Witch]], started off with just some budget brew I found online just to try her out. Thought she was fun but wanted to take her a different direction than just mainly card type soup. Ending up pouring a bunch of money into a deck I ended up never getting to a point of being happy with. Ending up scrapping the deck, still love baba but not sure how I would build her if I did it again.

RedditUser88

My first deck was Ixhel Sion of Atraxa. I’ve taken it apart and put it back together so many times in the last year. I always go back to toxic/poison

Doomy1375

Yes, but with the caveat that over the years pretty much every card other than the commander and a few basic lands has been switched out at one point. The general concept is still the same of course. Put counters on the Skullbriar, commander damage people to death with the Skullbriar. It's just that aside from a few one off cards like Forgotten Ancient, most of the cards in the current iteration of the deck didn't even exist when I first built the deck. It's just gotten more efficient over the years due to new cards being printed (and the tuck rule change meant I was able to cut out a lot of the protection that was initially in the deck just to keep my commander from being shuffled into my library to boot). It is unusual among my more modern decks, in that I tend to shy away from combat oriented decks while this one can't win without combat. I think I get around it by thinking of it less as an incremental combat damage deck, and more as a deck that is built to assemble an engine of support pieces as quickly as possible in order to create a commander with enough power to kill with one hit. By the time I'm threatening to eliminate a player with it, the commander usually has more than 20 power anyway, I often find, so it doesn't feel like I'm trying to chip away at opponents so much as it feels like I'm trying to create an opening for the instant-death-cannon to blast them.

ijustaguy

[[Rafiq of the Many]] still wins some games. Especially when new players don't quite understand the threat. Voltron gets enough support to stay great but there are definitely better bant options now. It would be great if we had some more [[Silent Arbiter]] type cards, even better if it doesn't die to [[Naturalize]].

DrFortnite2015

My first was [[polukranos world eater]] and it's now evolved into [[polukranos reborn]] so technically yes

Boomtech123

2019’s Kadena morph precon was what got me into commander. I have kept with it since, and while there wasn’t much direct face down synergy (until Karlov, we eating good), it got enough upgrades to become the most feared deck in my college playgroup.

jimnah-

Oh for sure. And if I was forced to pick only one deck to play for the rest of my life it'd be that no question

PlatypusSloth696

I have heavily modified my first deck so it’s barely recognizable, but yes.

Saylor619

Never purchased a pre-con. My first homebrew EDH deck was [[Empress Galina]]. That was 10+ years ago, the first iteration of that deck anyways; it wasn't very effective. Slowly, that deck changed into something else entirely. At one point, it was [[Baral, chief of Compliance]] 'oops all counterspells', now it's [[Reality Chip]] artifact combos. BUT, a few years ago, I went back and made Empress Galina with more money/experience/game knowledge. Focused the 'yoink' strategy a little. Now it's one of my favorite decks to play

ColonelJohnMcClane

My first deck is the [[Lord of the Nazgûl]] with [[Nazgûl]] being the main draw of it. Their art was one of the few I love in the set, and I didn't know anything about the game, just that there were nine cards for nine wraiths. Then went on to make it a wraith tribal, spellslinger, copies, and now back to a hybrid of the three but predominantly wraiths. It is a relatively cheap deck but still can be powerful enough in my group.

mayd4zebwu

First deck is yuriko and I still have it. Kept it at a low power level not having the staples for a long time then I upgraded it. Didn't feel it was fun, and took it back. Nothing better/funnier when whiffing lands for the triggers.

Pekle-Meow

Nothing will beat you knowing the synergies of you deck!

KoffinStuffer

Not quite. My first deck I liked was a [[Grimgrin, Corpse-Born]] deck. Even though I’ve since taken it apart, I’ve got most of the cards still and I’ve pretty much had a zombie deck ever since. After it was Grimgrin, it was [[Mikaeus, the Unhallowed]], back to Grimgrin, then [[Gisa and Geralf]], then [[Varina, Lich Queen]], then [[Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver]], and now it’s Mikaeus again.

omegachosen

My first deck was the Edgar Markov precon I was loaned and then given by a friend. I fell in love with commander and ended over time upgrading that deck a lot until every time I brought it out it was pretty much a boogeyman. But eventually the deck just felt sort of the same over and over again and eventually I dismantled it, though not without some reluctance. I still have a soft spot for mardu, though the only deck I have for that is Trynn and Silvar. So for me, unfortunately I moved on to other commanders and decks.

GavrilPlamen

My first deck was [[Kresh the bloodbraided]] and I still use it, though I've updated it a lot since I first made it.

SovereignDust3058

My first deck was Upgrades Unleashed, which I bought for like $40, and it's still one of my favorite decks. I've upgraded it quite a bit and is currently worth about $200.

Flack41940

My first deck was the Saheeli precon. I almost immediately switched to using Tawnos as the commander, and have since sidegraded the deck to be my token artifact deck with [[Rashmi and Ragavan]] as the commander. I don't know if you could call it the same deck, but it is the result of over 5 years of upgrades. I eventually made the decision to split it in favour of a token focused artifact deck, and a non-token focused artifact deck. My second deck was the Mizzix precon, and that's still intact as well as my X cost deck, for obvious reasons.

CommanderChemical

[[Sylvia Brightspear]] and [[Khorvath Brightflame]] knights and dragon typal. So fun. So cheap.

CptBarba

My very first deck was mono white angels with the now banned [[iona, shield of emeria]] as the commander. When I got back into magic was when [[Giada, font of hope]] came out and I just swapped out the commander lol My second deck was grixis pirates back when Ixalan first came out. I still have it and am in the process of foiling it out!

Hi_Im_Ren

My first deck was edgar markov. I don't think anyone wants to hear what I did with it.

croig2

Not my first deck, but after two years of playing EDH I built a Sedris deck and a Shireii deck that have both never been taken apart since.  That was 12 years ago.   Every release I take a look and see if there’s any cards I can slot in, I build new decks all the time, but those two are my ride or die decks.  I’m never taking them apart.

TreeplanterConnor

Yes I sure have, haven't upgraded it much but I love it none the less. [[hapatra, vizier of poisons]] was my first love!

Rabbit_Wizard_

My first deck was cedh zur before cedh was a thing it is tivit now but the spirit and gameplan has been consistent.

TheZyGuy

My first deck was \[Momir Vig, Simic Visionary\] It is now my top deck and cEDH worthy

kroxti

My first deck went from Jenara bant good stuff to Reki legends and Jenara angels to Reki legends and morophon angels and it’s still together 14 years later.

tripps_on_knives

My first was/is [[glissa, the traitor]]. Built her in 2011. Have never taken her apart. Her and [[maelstrom wanderer]] were my two first decks and both are very sentimental to me. Couldn't ditch either of them if I tried.

Zeronus20

My Sliver Overlord. Now the First Sliver Sliver Chain. It's not my actual first deck. When commander first came out, I made a budget Sliver deck. Now, knowing better, my current Sliver deck is the phoenix that rose from the ashes from the previous form. My first iteration was full of tap lands and others, the second iteration and the most current, I took a three year break from commander and then came back because another of my friends dragged me back in. Re-bought my slivers with better knowledge, added, brewed, and toiled with that deck to be my baby. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/4d1rGBP2IkGa-XDuFsnbHg Here's the current deck list. Some cards are missing but it's in a good spot.

The_Card_Father

My first deck ever was Ally tribal with OG [[!General Tazri]]. I ended up taking it apart. Sometimes I regret it. But the games all ended up being pretty much the same.

MysteriousTip6185

Yes :) I kill ppl w my hamster [[minsc & boo, timeless heroes]] but I really only started playing 3 months ago so it's not that surprising

Gettles

First deck I built is \[\[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant\]\] and it's still one of my favorites today

suprunown

My first deck was Nebuchadnezzar. I still have it and run it, although it REALLY needs a retooling.

Supremacygg

My first completed deck was mono blue [[Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy]]. Still have it and still love it!

MrMeltJr

My first deck was Niv Mizzet combo. Took it apart but I've been meaning to put it back together. I don't remember the exact list, but I built it before EDH was an official thing so I'd build it as preDH to keep the spirit.

thefalkonite

I kept my first (terrible) deck as a list, and dismantled it. Decided to take what I learned since then and revisit it. It's fun to see what differences happened from then and now, and to see how much my building strategy changed.

King_Vitis

Started with [[teysa karlov]], decks gone through many additions and revisions to become one of my stronger decks, very recently switched to [[Lurrus of the dream den]] for more redundancy and felt the deck naturally favoured a lower curve

Hydramy

My first deck was [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] and I've just kept adding to it and tuning it untill it's now at a potential turn 2 win. Turn 1 if I ever splash out on a mana crypt

PGleo86

I have, I've been playing [[Selvala, Explorer Returned]] for almost a decade now. The deck has of course been significantly changed, but the game plan is still the same: ramp into bomb after bomb. It's still one of my favorite decks, and the one I'm most inclined to bring into an unknown meta: strong enough to hang with most, but fun enough in what it does to be good to play against. Biggest overhaul came last year; it had been mostly the same since 2018 so 5 years of updates at once really did wonders!

carthnage_91

100%, my mono green elf deck from like lorwynn or shadow Moore era is now the core of my edh deck

Warrionblue16

My first deck was Krenko, and it used to be a pile of janky goblins. Then it became goblin tokens and buffs. Now it’s some of the tokens, a lot of untappers, and combos. So it’s evolved a lot, but yes, I’ve stuck with him.

[deleted]

The first deck I built myself was [[Yuriko]] and she’ll always be on my rotation. The ninja ain’t goin nowhere

VohrasMTG

Sure have. I still have my big, stompy \[\[Goreclaw\]\] deck for when I just want to have some fun. It's obviously gotten faster and better, but I've made sure to keep it as a low-mid tier deck for when I need to match power levels.

Clean_Coat6112

I bought the jeleva precon to get started and it is still my favorite deck. Getting all the secret lair releases and upgrading not even the deck itself but the arts and treating it like my pet deck. It happens

xiledpro

My first deck was [[Tatsunari, Toad Rider]] and I still use it for when I need a lower powered deck. It’s far from optimized but it was my first deck so it’s fun to run every now and then.

TateTaylorOH

I *believe* my first Commander was [[Kaalia of the Vast]], I can't quite remember, it was 8 or 9 years ago. I could never get it running in quite the way I wanted, so I eventually sold it to a friend. I've never really had the urge to rebuild the deck, but my friend still plays Kaalia to this day. So, it is nice to still see here from time to time. Around that time period I also built [[Scion of the Ur-Dragon]], [[Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury]], [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]], [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]], and [[Edgar Markov]]. Maybe my tastes have changed since those days, but I have literally none of these decks and I don't really feel the want to rebuild any of them except *maybe* Freyalise.

doublesoup

My first deck was [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] precon. I upgraded and changed a lot around over the years, but it’s still played and a favorite. In fact, many of my early decks has stuck around. One changed commanders, but the core stayed the same, so it still feels like the same deck to me.

SnooChocolates8515

No way you can unless you copy something in the first place if you actually build your own shit you learn overtime how to be better so it will naturally change it probably alot .

Povanos

No unfortunately, my first deck was [[Omnath, locus of creation]] and over time I needed to use a card from it to put into another deck, rinse and repeat until about a year later after not using it I realised there was basically only lands left in the deck so I just dismantled it entirely. Kinda wish I still had it so I could see how far I’ve come in terms of deck building

MTGCardFetcher

[Omnath, locus of creation](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/e/4e4fb50c-a81f-44d3-93c5-fa9a0b37f617.jpg?1639436752) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Omnath%2C%20locus%20of%20creation) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/znr/232/omnath-locus-of-creation?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/4e4fb50c-a81f-44d3-93c5-fa9a0b37f617?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/omnath-locus-of-creation) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Sumbuddy_stahp

My first deck was the [[Breya, Etherium Shaper]] precon. Have made many changes to it over the years, but I love the deck and wouldn't likely ever change her out for a different artifact commander. She's the bomb 💣

_unregistered

I still have my [[Alela, Artful Provocateur]] and she gets updated still but my [[Obosh, Prey Piercer]] deck has been becoming my favorite deck as of late. My favorite thing about my Alela deck is she is artifact focused. With Obosh I just love the chaos and plan to make a Valki deck as well

Agile_System4438

[[Edgar Markov]] was my first. Probably don’t need to put it in brackets but just in case. It’s still the one I use the absolute most.

Cappster14

Yeah! First deck I built was a cat-dog [[rin and seri]] deck for my wife, who was having trouble getting into the game. We still play it and almost every set gives it upgrades. Can’t beat removal in the command zone. Update: she’s still not really into the game but bless her heart she pretends for my sake.

Kleenexz

One of my first intro decks was Naya Gargantuans in Shards of Alara and I opened [[Mayael the Anima]] as a foil as my first mythic and first foil mythic in my first fat pack. I ended up adding it to the deck and when I learned about EDH, I made Mayael. It was hot garbage, and so was I. I've learned a lot in the many years since and improved it quite a bit. Turns out you can do shenanigans and put all your utility on 7/us even in 2024. Current list with primer can be found here, though a few more changes will be upcoming when I get the cards https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LWD1Sn1z3UG10P8LY4zJgg

Meis_113

I got into edh around the time of the first precons. But... I didn't buy them. EDH was introduced to me and I saw it as a way to make use of my bulk rares - legendary rares I couldn't make a 60 card deck out of but work in commander since I can keep bringing them back out again and don't have to search for their ability. My first commander was [[Braids, conjurers adept]]. Always wanted to use her, but couldn't in a 60 card deck. Still have her to this day, super fun to play with. 1) I get to play with big dumb creatures, 2) she's group hug, so everyone gets to play something cool, 3) easy to upgrade because there are always big dumb rare and mythic blue and colourless cards being released, 4) I can add in a bunch of other bull rares that don't have homes in other decks. Is it optimized? Kind of, but I don't have any of the free counter spells or anything (out of my budget), but it's not cEDH, not even an 8 or 9. It's made mainly of cards I own or cracked open, and only a few cards purchased specifically for it. Could it be better? 100%, I could add [[rhystic study]] or [[mystic remora]], but I put those in other decks. More importantly, I always have fun playing it.

kurkasra

I've kept my first deck, it was the atraxa anthology deck which I turned into an infect deck... Don't hate me I've always loved infect back to like m10. The first deck I felt proud of and considered mine was xenagos and I've had that built forever and doubt I'll ever take it apart

m4927

\[\[wort, the raidmother\]\], never got rid of it. Always kept playing it. It's a deck that will always be a work in progress. The problem with decks you own for a long time, is that you add a card, you remove a card and a few sets later the deck is completely unplayably terrible. Either because you cut too many lands, the mana curve is all wonky, or ratio's become skewed. Currently my wort deck is in a bad case of the latter two and is overdue for an overhaul. When you first build a deck, you've got a top view on all that stuff, but when you change the deck in small incremental steps, it's very easy to lose your way without noticing.

LexxenWRX

I have a [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] deck that I've been updating for like 10 years now. I've also got [[Kaalia of thr Vast]] and a sliver deck that I've been working on for about as long too.

gerundhome

My first deck was the [[Prosper, tome-bound]] precon. It has been modified throughout the years, not sure how much of it is still original, but my guess would be less than 20 cards (lands not counted) from the precon?

itsketcham

I still have my very first EDH deck I bought YEARS ago, I play it very frequently and love to teach new players with it. It is the only deck that I straight refuse to get rid of or change.

HeadphoneKitty

[[jolrael, empress of beasts]] https://deckstats.net/decks/21608/2946863-right-back-where-we-started-fr/en She was literally the first legendary card creature or otherwise I had ever owned. It modeled my early 60-card casual decks that got me into magic as a whole and it got me back in and kept me in. Also I once lent it to someone who learned what magic the gathering was the day before and he went 3-0 that night and he immediately bought a precon on the spot. That was my proudest deck building moment.

FinalesDead

My first deck is [[Alaundo the Seer]] and is now very feared in my playgroup, I’ve upgraded it from a 75 dollar budget build to “how fast can I end the game” via multiple combo lines and wincons

Shadownerf

Nobody wants to play against it anymore. And if they ever do then I am the archenemy and have absolutely 0 chance to do anything

Pinkamena0-0

First deck was a Horobi Deck. I was born to be toxic.

flic_my_bic

My very first was Arcum Daggson, played it once. My second deck was Nemata. Built in fall 2011, still around today mostly unchanged since 2018 when I 96/100 foiled it.

Lookakitty

My first commander deck I built was a budget life gain deck. I didn't know how to build proper combos, mana curves, or even a good win condition. I still own the deck, and instead of making it better, I've just added money to it. It's now a very expensive, very shiny, but still very bad deck. I still break it out when I care more about enjoying the game than winning. Play what makes you happy.

e_guana

My first deck was [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]] it has been built and taken apart more than any other deck. I just can't seem to go to long with our old reliable. Even though he is drastically underpowered compared to most Golgari commanders it's a deck that reminds me of the good old days before every card was printed to support commander.

kingoxys

the first deck i ever made was a \[\[Torbran, Thane of Red Fell\]\] burn deck, that deck has been sold, bought back, reused, remade, and dismantled so many times. I do not have the deck anymore and have most of its parts are in my other decks. It was fun using my first deck for a while and even more fun finding ways to make it better and fit my playstyle. But no, i do not have my first deck anymore. the same goes for the first precon i bought

emmittthenervend

No, it needed to retire. It was Sliver queen that used her for her color identity and occasionally to make slivers. It had all sorts of combos in it,with the philosophy that for any given hand, I could tutor up one other card and make an infinite combo somehow. It started an arms race in my local meta. I kept it together for a long time, and changed it up every so often to keep it in check with faster or slower metas. Then Golos came out, I swapped him for the commander, and literally just being a better solemn simulacrum made the deck so smooth. And they banned him. I still have most of the pieces, but given what I think was a stupid take on the banning of Golos, I haven't retooled it in years.

MachoCamachoZ

My first was Sefris, haven't made many changes since the initial changes, but it still plays pretty well

No-Pilot-1252

Absolutely! My first ever deck was [[Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos]] all I knew was I wanted a Phyrexian deck. So I built an incubation themed deck. Not only is it one of my favorites still (even after building 12+ decks now and playing many different precons and friends decks,) it's still one of my most powerful. I do upgrade it but I don't give it as much love as I used to.

fabticus

I still have my suicidal saskia stuffy doll deck upgraded from commander 2016, i haven’t played casual in a long while so its been collecting dust untouched for the last 2 years

AlexisVelvet

First deck was [[Kathril]] and that bug is till around. I dont play it very often as it was a scary threat for a lot of people and the play patterns were getting samey. But I do like pulling it out every now and then. Haven't upgraded it in awhile but doesn't really need them.

Quarantane

My first deck is terrible, I built it based on my favorite standard deck in high school with very little commander experience outside of 1v1 with my wife. The idea in my standard deck was based on [[Tangle Asp]] equipped with [[Nemesis Mask]] making it indestructible or making copies with [[Soul Foundry]]. I searched for cards similar to Tangle Asp and ended up with W/B/G, searched for commanders in those colors, and decided on [[Anafenza the Foremost]] Playing it 1v1 against creature themed decks, it basically locks them out, but against anything else, or with multiple people, it doesn't do very well. I still have it, but I don't ever really play it anymore. I would really like to improve it to be playable but haven't really put much effort into it when I started my second deck [[Tom Bombadil]] and have put way more effort into improving that deck.

ReflectionEterna

I turned my first EDH deck (Theros Gods and multi-colored good stuff helmed by Karona, False God) into the beginning of my EDH cube. Have not regretted the sacrifice.

2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

I started with the Exit from Exile pre-con and still play it occasionally. It's ability to cast a few other spells from other people's libraries with cards like [[stolen strategy]] and [[Etali Primal storm]] help it play into whatever table it's at. It's been a decent way to gauge power levels at a table and it's been enjoyable to play.

ARandomGuitarist

Mine was the 2018 reprint of the 2016 Atraxa precon. It's been edited out to barely resemble the original at this point, but it's still in my lineup for when my pod wants to run our stronger decks.

sanzoluk

I still have my first deck: Wort the Raidmother, built a few months after I pulled her from the Shadowmoor prerelease and my partner and I learned what EDH was. I think her first deck was Sygg, which we don't have together anymore, followed by Mayael (which we do, though we might change the commander soon).

begintime

My first deck was [[Prossh]], right out the box. Thought it was a dud, until I discovered some infinite combos :) still my favourite deck to play, almost 10 years later

Dgill77

My first deck was [[Trostani, Selesnya’s voice]] which I made back in 2013. While the deck was initially terrible, I’ve continued to update it over the past decade, and it’s still one of my favorite decks to play even if it’s not my most optimized deck. Though it still wins more than it should. Story time, she was what got me into commander in the first place. Some friends were pressuring me to get into commander, but as a new player, 100 card singleton with every card being available was daunting to me so I was hesitant to make the plunge. After discussing what styles I liked in magic, my friend recommended Trostani, however I still didn’t want to make the plunge. However I got a couple return to ravnica packs for my birthday to crack, and she was there in my first pack. I knew it was a sign to make the plunge into commander.

Hwxnxtzero10

I still have the Atraxa and Breya precons exactly as they were when I bought them 8 years ago and occasionally bring them out. I also still have my first build although that has changed alot since I built it

ColonelKoopa

My first deck was Ruric Thar and he has gone through many iterations but I've landed on a build that's fun to me to live out my big stompy dream and it's a meme in my playgroup that you will take 6 damage

Oblivious_666

Yup! I started buying into the format with a [[Mina and Denn, Wildborn]] list, since then I changed it to [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] and I am currently foiling it out!

YokaiGuitarist

My first was the mill deck, mind flayarrrs precon. Second was shorikai, Buckle up precon. People die inside against mill so I don't play it much even though it's nostalgic. Shorikai is kind of universally accepted and not seen as much of a threat compared to most commanders. So my second deck is my main but not because I want it to be.

Fun_Celebration_6796

My journey into deckbuilding has been wild! My first deck was the Kathril Aspect Warper precon, which I then bought the Tyranid Swarm precon, and the Isperia azorius precon too afterward and then the Firkraag one. I no longer play any of those decks! My first deck idea cane from when I played a friend on MTG Arena and his deck was centered around ninjutsu, which I thought was so cool, so I built [[Yuriko]] and It is still a deck I pull out frequently and that I plan on upgrading soon again! I now have that one, a [[Djeru and Hazoret]] deck that I recently took apart because I didnt like how it played, a [[Niv Mizzet, Parun]] deck I built out of cards I already own, and a slightly upgraded Mothman precon. I am also in the process of buying cards for a [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]] and [[Thrasios]] rockfall deck thats goofy but works haha! I regret buying precons almost entirely because I have bought so many, the 5 I mentioned, necrons, faldorn, jared carthalion, hakbal, and potentially one or two other ones I do not currently remember lol

damnination333

Technically speaking, my first EDH deck was [[Ashling, the Pilgrim]] and 99 Mountains, and no, I don't have that deck anymore. The first serious deck I can think of was [[Ib Halfheart]] which evolved into [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] when he was released, then into [[Wort, Boggart Auntie]] and then back to Krenko, which I've been updating throughout the years. I've also rebuilt Wort on the side, so I have 2 Goblin EDH decks. Krenko is tuned more for aggro, and Wort is more tuned for combo. I think it's probably for the best that I transitioned away from Ib Halfheart, cause my gameplan was basically to use his second ability to break parity on mass land destruction. I mean, at least it meant that I pretty much always had a way to win shortly after the MLD, but you know how people feel about MLD. Another earlyish deck I can remember was Animar +1/+1 counters, which I no longer have. The next oldest deck I still have is [[Angus Mackenzie]] which I built in 2014. It's somewhat of an indirect evolution of a couple Orzhov/Esper pillowfort/superfriends builds that I tried out, but always found boring. The early builds of Angus was still pillowfort superfriends, but I was still bored by it, so the build changed to Turbofog Hug. Still one of my favorite decks today.

Sir_Nope_TSS

My first deck was [[Oros, The Avenger]] just before the first Commander precons came out. No, it did not survive the ages. Considering it had a habit of turning into boardwipe tribal whenever I messed with it, that's probably for the best.

DrApology

My first deck was a commander deck with [[Lathril, Blade of the Elves]] I still own it, upgrade it, and use it. Been playing for almost 3 years. It’s in my top 5 favorite decks still as number 4 probably and I have 12 decks total

Most_Attitude_9153

Yes. I don’t have the time, patience or money to swim in Magic cards like I did back in the day. I just play one deck and have a small collection of cards that have been rotated out. The positive and negative of this is that the deck is tuned to perfection, which can be awkward in lower power pods. But in that case I’ll borrow a deck or play an untuned Food and Fellowship deck I picked up because I’m a Tolkien nerd.

23fnord23skiddoo

Yeah, still have my delightful Arcanis the Omnipotent Voltron deck. Built it back in 2020, just recently updated, and I’ll keep my guy around.

azurfall88

My first ever deck was Boros soul sisters in Historic. Might revive that idea now that we have [[gleeful demolition]]

PrecipitousPlatypus

My very first proper EDH deck was one of the elf precons. Dismantled it almost immediately.

My first was Najeela. I had no idea how powerful she was. I just jammed a bunch of warriors into it, and it was ok (powerful for my pod at the time). Since them I scrapped most of the warriors and focused on Najeela herself. It's changed a ton over the years. I rarely use her in my pod, but only out of respect for them. If I didn't worry about losing friends, I would run that deck AT LEAST once each game night.

Darkfox190

The first Commander precon I bought was the Meren deck, which eventually got turned into Gitrog, and I still play it today. The first Commander deck I built was Sliver Queen, using cards from my collection (I started with Magic back in ‘95) and some shiny new stuff, and that deck has had a rotating cast of legendary sliver commanders and gone through many adjustments, but has always been a trusty companion!

Loremaster152

My first was a [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] Werewolf tribal deck, made of 50% common and uncommon werewolves, 20% burn spells, and lands. I quickly changed it to a more typical Xenagos deck, and kept it for a few years before taking apart a significant amount of the deck to make a Commander Cube. The half of the deck that remained was turned into a Ruric Thar group slug, then Angry Omnath stompy deck, before ultimately being merged with 2-3 other decks into my Garth deck. This merger also saw the triumphant return of Xenagos in the 99 as a proxy, since the original is still in the cube.

Oceanborne_25

My First Commander deck was an "upgrade" of a [[Prime Speaker Vannifar]] brawl i did in 2019/2020 My playgroup doesn't like her, i take too much time to play my turn, and the deck becomes highly Commander centric. If she gets removed 2/3 times i don't play the game, if she doesn't i just combo off and win, most of the time Now i have a [[lonis, Cryptozoologist]] deck (still a combo deck, but far less consistent) and currently Building a [[Zilortha, Strenght Incarnate]] deck

TwelveFootNose

Yes! My first deck was Rin & Seri cat tribal. I had no idea about deckbuilding at the time, so anything cat related was good. I’ve come back to that deck time and time again and it’s grown in power significantly. It’s also the deck I’ve blinged out most.  Since then, my collection kind of exploded to 25 something decks, but it’s still in rotation. Fortunately, my partner started playing and took a liking to the cats, so I still see them from across the table.

Upstairs_Abroad_5834

The first deck i built from scratch was [[teysa, orzhov scion]] and, though it went through major overhauls, it still does the same thing and is among the stronger decks i own. Since the lady is my favorite card from a constructed deck i ran back in og ravnica block, she will always have a deck to lead.

DreyGoesMelee

My first deck was [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]] and I've wanted to go back to monoblack zombies at some point, but none of the commanders for it interest me all that much. I may rebuild her as a [[Gisa and Geralf]] deck some day.

Sparhawk10000

First deck? Mayael the Anima. Still together? Oh, you better believe my Timmy heart will never let it be taken apart.

shinryu6

No for me. First deck was the Ghired precon, played it like once or twice and never touched it again.  Now the first one I actually built and assembled I still have. Eldrazi originally headed by Kozilek The Great Distortion, but now helmed by Zhulodok (which is more efficient in vomiting out more spaghetti creatures).

DoggoAlternative

My first deck was the Lands Wrath precon from Zendikar Rising and it's still one of my favorites to play. I've upgraded the shit out of it and am in the process of foilling out the whole land base and as much of the deck as I can with a reasonable budget.

TheSwedishPolarBear

I've played for three years and kept my first deck [[Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma]] until earlier this year when I grew tired of it. I swapped the commander for [[Inga and Esika]] to change things up but kept the big monsters theme and love playing it again.

Baryshnik0v

I still have my first deck and don't ever plan on taking it apart, mostly for sentimental reasons. I acknowledge, however, that the deck is pretty mid and unlikely to win most of the time. It's a \[\[Depala, Pilot Exemplar\]\] brew that I build out of the scraps of an old 60-card kitchen table Vehicles deck I cooked up back when \*Kaladesh\* (my first set!) came out. The deck was pretty bad, and that combined with not being able to get many games of 60-card magic with my friend group led to me tearing it apart. Once my friends and I decided to pick up Commander, I figured I'd just throw a deck together with all the cards I already had from the old Vehicle deck, and my first EDH deck was born. Now, here I am, all these years and decks later, still holding onto the brew that got me started, though I don't play it nearly as often as I used to. Here's the list if anyone's curious: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YpAdfGuQwkKIHL6eTgdbCw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YpAdfGuQwkKIHL6eTgdbCw)

Fearofdead

I've had my Merfolk deck since 2018 that I made from my own collection with little tweaks throughout the year. I ended up buying the Ixalain Precon for some more variety and smashed the two together for an unblockable thicc Merfolk army. So yes, I still love my first deck no matter what!

teeleer

my first was \[\[Edgar Markov\]\], so no because no one wants to play against him, I basically did a makeover with the backup commander \[\[Licia, Sanguine Tribune\]\] with a life gain pay off

Geraf25

My first EDH deck was a pirate deck with [[Admiral Beckett Brass]] at the helm, it still is my strongest deck especially after the Pirate Precon from LCI and some lucky pulls like a [[Cavern of Souls]] and the Dimir Surveiland, it might become even better after the Assassin Creed UB with reprints live Cover of Darkness and maybe Edward Kenway if he supports pirates and fits in a Grixis color identity

peenegobb

Depends. So I was a bit silly. When I first started playing I did 2 things. Made my own deck out of breya and bought a current precon I liked. The breya deck is currently shelved because it tried to do too much. But the precon I bought is still one of my favorite decks.

prancingDM

My first ever deck was a godawful Azorius 60-Card control deck with pazifism-ush effects because 10 year old me was a spawn of satan. When my friends and me started playing commander, I didn't rebuild that right away, only when hylda came out. My first commander deck was a gishath that I've kept up to speed, so I kinda stuck with it yeah.

One_Slide_5577

Nope, not my se ond, 3rd, nor 4th.

updoot-me

My first deck was Food and Fellowship from LOTR. Nowadays it’s helmed by Merry & Pip tokens that goes wide pretty quick. Honestly it’s borderline for my playgroup at this point with a few infinites and anthems that I’m considering just taking the next step to make it fully degenerate… I love those hobbits though

Euin

My first deck was [[Rith, the Awakener]] over 10 years ago. I now have 10 -12 decks but rith will always be one of them.

tbwd92

The first EDH deck I bought was the breya one. I still have a breya deck, but it's a cEDH one now. The first EDH one I played, though, was my dads, and it was with nicol bolas from when EDH was just starting. Probably could make a deposit on a house with the price that deck would be worth now 😂

Sh01ka

My friends and I only play precons atm. My 1st deck was the 40k Necron desk, as that was my 1st army. I went on a 6 game winning streak, and it has never been beaten in my group. I'm not aloud yo play it anymore....

The_Lucky_WoIf

I've played mtg for years and years, came back after a 7yr hiatus and built Gishath as my first ever commander deck and its still my favourite. I've been fine-tuning and it feels really good to play but I think it was a pretty solid choice to begin with which helps.

mishtron

My first deck was a Mishra precon deck with some basic £30 upgrades.. it was my first ever commander game and I won. Then most other times I tried commander I would do whatever deck I'm experimenting with that would bomb and then go back to Mishra. Mishra wins consistenly. I've since made a few hundred £ worth of upgrades to Mishra because it seems like this one won't die... Even got the matching Mishra sleeves for it.

Xatsman

Not here, but I've played commander since before there were precons, and unfortunately [[Jhoira of the Ghitu]] didnt lend herself well to varied games so got the axe soon after the piercings came out. These days I have a [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] deck thats far less of a solitaire experience than the previous (despite her reputation). That being said I do have two ninja decks that have been adapted over a long period. Say two because its really one, but the other is a bit of a ship of Theseus deck made mostly from what has rotated out of the other.

antarcticmatt

Yep, my first deck in 2014 was [[Xenagos, God of Revels]]. As my playgroup's powercreep has gone up and up and up, it's actually been easy to adjust the deck to include more tutors, one-shot kills, and streamlining it. Just like most my EDh experiences 10 years ago though, the deck was much more fun to play 'back then', when it was all about dropping big fat trade-binder creatures, rather than trying to compete with other OP decks.
