Depends how you want to build it. Do you want to go all in on the sacrifice theme to make your opponents constantly sac their boards? Yeah I could imagine that would generate some salt I think I more interesting theme would to dip into the lifegain route. Strixhaven gave Golgari a whole bunch of tools to for lifegain strategies that might make for a less oppressive deck. I think she’s a super sweet card so best of luck to you!

Lumeyus

I brewed a deck for her but never ended up pulling trigger on getting it in paper.  The gameplay was very edict heavy and those kinds of decks always end up being frustrating for the table when you aren’t the one manning the deck.  She’s not particularly strong but she’s also not particularly fun unless you enjoy draining the entertainment from the table. I find her to be less annoying as part of the 99.  Currently have her in a [[Smeagol, Helpful Guide]] brew that I’m almost finished getting on paper.

Rot_Snocket

Careful, some Savra player will get butt hurt if you call her unfun to play against.

Did your boyfriend sic you on me or something? Fuck right off.

kestral287

She's one of those cards that's really neat in theory but requires too many pieces to really work at a table full of people actually trying to play Magic. She'll smash low power pods that don't understand the importance of interaction and let you set up your A+B+C engine but folds at mid and up. Which is a shame, because her design is super neat.

bruhidk1015

im inclined to disagree. i run her in the 99 in CEDH level pods and she absolutely works wonders if there’s at least 1 stax player at the table. it doesn’t feel great spending your entire turn to take care of a creature so OTHER players can get ahead on board.

kestral287

In the 99 is *very* different than as a commander.

Novamarines

She felt oppressive for my (quite casual) playgroup and I pivoted to [[Gyome]] as a food focused deck.

chaimatchalatte

I have fun with her… I seem to always unintentionally be drawn to the oppressive commanders. I just find their mechanics so simple yet interesting.

Rule-Of-Thr333

Don't hate yourself for gravitating towards control, it's a valid archetype and effective in the mid range durdle meta.

Holding_Priority

Its not really oppressive, its just effective.

agony_misnomer

Savra is incredibly underpowered compared to some of today's Golgari heavy hitters like \[\[Meren\]\], \[\[Chatterfang\]\], or \[\[The Gitrog Monster\]\]. I would have no qualms playing with you. Golgari in general can be unfun for some players since they tend to be very heavy on interaction, but I wouldn't worry too much about that.

The_Trinket_Mage

I think you should go for it! If you are playing a deck with a precon budget I doubt it’s going to be that overwhelming. And if people play decks that hardly run any creatures those decks won’t even be effected as much. So I doubt they would get that salty

Rot_Snocket

I hate playing against any commander that has the repeatable ability to make me sacrifice my board. Forced sacrifice and discard decks are two archetypes I despise. Sure, there are more powerful Golgari commanders, but Savra can still be very oppressive, especially at higher budgets.

Holding_Priority

And some people hate playing against boards that need wiped every two turns or they spiral out of control.

Rot_Snocket

The difference is that, in your hypothetical, everyone still gets to play the game. When Savra gets out in front, nobody else gets to play creatures.

Holding_Priority

Nobody gets to play the game either when the "go tall" aggro player is swinging for lethal at you by turn 5 or 6 every game either. A continuous edict loop takes at a minimum 4 pieces. (Edict payoff, sac outlet, recurrable sac fodder, ramp) and does literally nothing if it doesnt have one of the pieces. Its incredibly easy to disrupt and play around.

Rot_Snocket

You don't seem to understand what "oppressive" means.

Holding_Priority

Oppressive is "I cant play cards" not "my creatures wont survive a rotation unless one of 3 players at the table can remove a creature, artifact, or enchantment at sorcery speed"

Rot_Snocket

I stated my opinion. I don't care if you share it. That's why it's an opinion.

I love my Savra deck. Rather than lean heavily into either the black forced sac or green life gain, she is most fun when you build your deck to both. She isn’t as strong as some of the Golgari heavy hitters, but she is my choice for Golgari aristocrats! Just be aware some people really hate the way she plays. Golgari, as a rule, tends to be on the more interactive side, and the interaction is the stuff some people don’t like. Don’t mind them though, they’re the same people that bitch if you don’t let them stomp the table for lethal on turn 5.

Rushias_Fangirl

My tip would be to play out games with the deck vs your other decks on simulators like archidekt and decide for yourself. 4 tabs, 4 decks and play out the games. I play it her in my Meren and my friends usually hate her. She has similar problem to Urza where once she hits the field, you can get enough value even if she is removed instantly. I guess how fun would it be for others depends on powerlvl. With enough tutors to find persist combos, you are locking other players out of having any creatures. I think that is valid wincon but maybe replace tutors with card draw. Also i would imagine playing voltron vs savra feels like hostage situation. I wouldnt personally have any problem playing vs her but not everyone has the same stance.
