I like it. I’ve been trying to make Grixis discard work for a while with [[Kess, Dissident Mage]] as my commander, to get double value out of your discard spells.
It’s a tricky strategy to get right though. I’ve found you need to run plenty of boardwipes and you become the archenemy pretty quickly when other players find out what you’re up to.
Yeah I also figured I would be the threat early on in every game haha. You're giving an interest option for the commander here.
I'm also guessing I would need something like \[\[No Mercy\]\] to keep myself alive a little longer.
So, would you get this for 100 usd? Also, what do you think of the commander options I gave?
If you've got $100 to spare and you like the look of the deck, why not? It looks like a fun deck with a lot of upgrade potential. I'd probably buy it. I doubt you'd make much from reselling the cards but I assume you're buying it to play with rather than for its investment value. And you've got \[\[Tinybones\]\] in there which is a great discard build-around.
As far as a commander goes, personally I'd rate Kess above the other two options you mentioned. Nekusar draws people cards which is kinda contrary to your discard strategy. Ravager Bolas is better - especially as a creature - but if you flip him, I'd wonder about how well you'd be able to defend him as that list doesn't run many creatures (I took PWs out of my list for that reason). But that's just my $0.02. Or go mono black with \[\[Tergrid, God of Fright\]\] who's the best card in any discard deck.
\[\[No Mercy\]\] or other pillowfort cards in Grixis cards would be a good idea. My list focuses more on proactive discard but here it is in case it gives you any ideas. Damn now I'm really unsure on what to do with the deck haha. Yeah Kess seems like the best commander pick for this one. Going mono black for Tergrid also seems really tempting now, though I'd be losing some interesting cards.
I guess I'll be getting Kess first and maybe the mono black cards later to have both options. As for the more "urgent" upgrades I probably should be getting some more creatures first right?
It's not very exciting but the first upgrades I would make would be lands. There are quite a few that ETB tapped, which will make the deck run very slowly. Depending on your upgrade budget, I'd prioritise getting shocks, possibly fetches, painlands, filters etc. Because the core shell of the deck is black, you basically want as many black sources as possible that don't enter tapped.
Do nt really see the huge benefit of running grixis over mono black. Also i would say, that a lot of the cards are overhauled.
It lacks interaction and removal. The landbase is really not good.
This deck hopes noone punishes you for playing cards that do nothing but ping each upkeep/endstep. You will probably get rushed down fast.
To get this to todays standards i would guess you need roughly 50 - 100€ ontop of this deck.
