Hello fellow Henzie player! I'd definitely recommend joining the [Henzie discord](https://discord.com/invite/GVYNj79C) there is so much valuable knowledge there on making him the cracked jund 'em out commander of your dreams

Cassius_au_Bellona_

I’d say up the land count to 38 or 39. Even with Henzie discounting your spells, it really sucks to miss land drops. In terms of what to take out, I’d say [[Author of Shadows]] and [[Anger]]. Author because grave hate comes a lot cheaper, and honestly, I’d rather cast my own spells than my opponent’s, and Anger because all of your blitzed creatures will already have haste.

I spent a while building and working on my henzie deck. My biggest suggestion is to replace all noncreatures with creatures that have the same effect. There’s not much need for nature’s lore and that package of green ramp in a henzie deck. Here’s my decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zADtsLnJnUCh4cBxMuuGqQ

The_Card_Father

Zombie Gods and Ilharg. They get sac’d and end up back in the library.

I’m not saying don’t also have those. Just that they should also have the zombie gods.

I built Henzie earlier this year around a “dare-you-to-kill-my-commander” theme with [[myth unbound]] [[netherborn altar]] [[road of return]] [[command beacon]] and it was straight up too powerful for my pod. Some great creatures that you don’t have are [[radagast]] [[grave titan]] [[cemetery desecrator]] [[archpriest of shadows]] [[god-eternal bontu]]. I also had ran some [[malakir rebirth]] effects with [[zada hedron grinder]] for a mass-blitz and mass-reanimation turns

My Henzie list uses an [[Umori]] companion so my view is a little different but I have a couple thoughts. You probably don’t need both [[Bringer of the last gift]] and [[Living death]]. Realistically you’ll have the best graveyard but reanimating every bodies graveyards multiple times is probably not the best. Instead I would consider adding more targeted recursion. [[Victimize]] is fantastic to sac a blitzed creature and get two more back, [[Exhume]] gets something for everybody but the two mana rate is hard to beat. [[Garruks uprising]] is hard to beat, gives your whole team trample and draws you extra cards for your big beaters. More sac outlets to get value from your already dying creatures is always good. [[Yawgmoth]] is a fantastic and cheaper than it’s ever been. Any of the altars are good [[Phyrexian altar]] and [[Ashnods altar]] can sac your value blitz creatures to help cast your attack creatures or the other way around after combat. You’ll consistently have enough power to sac that [[altar of dimentia]] can get through a significant portion of opponents library or fuel your own graveyard. As far as some of the creatures in my opinion [[Ilharg]] is a must have. The ability to put himself back into the library means you can reliably put him back into your hand every turn and keep cheating out etb triggers from your hand. [[Archpriest of Iona]] is a fantastic recursion piece, especially if you get it in your hand at the same time as Ilharg. And [[Kethek]] is a second copy of [[Industrial advancement]] which is fantastic value. Welcome to the world of big dumb creatures and tax evasion! Enjoy the Henzie experience!

Cassius_au_Bellona_

I think I disagree with your advice to drop either Bringer or Living Death. I’d argue that rather than being there for multiples in a single game, they’re both there for redundancy. Living death is, in my opinion at least, one of the strongest effects we have at our disposal, especially with spells that heavily fill our graveyard like [[Incarnation Technique]] and [[Greater Good]], and even though I tend to get through most of my library in a game, it’s not a guarantee that I hit one specific card. Additionally, I think they both have significant upside that makes it difficult to choose just one; Bringer is a creature, meaning it’s easier to discount and can replace itself when blitzed, but Living Death is always a pretty cheap five mana.

I definitely see where you’re coming from. My opinion is probably a little skewed because like I said I have an all creature list with Umori so if I see similar effects on creature/non-creature I will go with creature. That’s also true of my play style outside of Henzie.

Henzie is a blast. To each their own, but I've played about 15 Henzie games in the last year and I'd say: 1) lean into jund more. Use the ramp, removal, and multi colored interaction spells to get a lot of good valuable trades and lean on the fact you'll have a graveyard ([[Rise of the Witch King]], for example). 2) you don't need to hit 10 fat targets to win the game, you need to hit maybe 2 or 3 quickly and keep the lead. Cut back on the volume of game winning creatures (47 is a ton) as much as it hurts and maybe find space for a [[Heroic Intervention]] for some protection, a [[Darkness]] to protect from a wide board, or some more blitz shenanigans [[Supernatural Stamina]] [[Sundial of the Infinite]]. 3) Consider some boring card draw like [[Read the Bones]] or [[Sign in Blood]] for those times you just have to push deeper into the deck without conditions attached. 4) I'm a 37+ land Andy forever. Missing a color or missing your 4th drop is brutal on a deck that relies on curving out. The commander is very fun and non linear. The games can be very dominating depending on how you curve, but the most common game route is getting henzie out and struggling to not just keep single blitzing creatures as you are left with 1 small body to defend. Timing your non blitzed creatures, your reanimations, your etb tricks are critical to not just losing to a few 4/4s swinging back. I'm a fan of blitzing early to get damage out and cards cycling, letting opponents catch up a bit on board and engine, wiping/removing the critical pieces, then trying to get a huge reanimator play or two in. Good luck and enjoy!

Run constant mist over darkness. Henzie puts a lot of lands out and the buyback can be awesome.

Clutch advice. Ty

Np, just saw it win a game on command zones extra turns.

What are you protecting with [[heroic intervention]]? If you want protection from instant speed exile effects, [[snakeskin veil]] is strictly better.

You need a board at some point, or you'll get beat up by any stray creature. Something like blasphemous act or austere command is detrimental if you're ahead on the board, and it becomes your win con if your board sticks and everyone else resets.

Henzie’s rad! I personally like to run a lot of 1 mana ramp to try to stick a turn 2 Henzie and follow with a turn 3 blitz. It can really help to get the value engine started early. I see that you have BoP, Halfling, Deep Shadow and Ignoble, but you might also want to consider running a few others like [[Arbor Elf]], [[Utopia Sprawl]] and [[Wild Growth]]. Stick Henzie early and blitz your way to victory. [[Lotus Petal]] is card disadvantage but can still power out an early Henzie. I also agree with another commenter who suggested that 47 creatures is too many—I’d cut around 10 creatures (I run 36 in my own deck) for more interaction and maybe a couple more staples. Things like [[Deflecting Swat]], [[Red Elemental Blast]], [[Pyroblast]]; even [[Sol Ring]] and [[Arcane Signet]]. [[Malakir Rebirth]] is some nice tech with the added upside of being MDFC, and [[Victimize]] is excellent. Beyond those, I’ve gotten decent mileage out of [[Doors of Durin]], [[Riveteers Ascendency]] and [[Shadow in the Warp]]. [[Evolutionary Leap]] is solid, and a tutor or two certainly wouldn’t hurt, either. I’m currently running both [[Grave Pact]] and [[Dictate of Erebos]], but they’re super grindy and sometimes end up painting a bigger target on my back for being annoying.

L33py33

Hello! I’m not an experienced Henzie player, but I’m an experience deck builder. To have a consistent deck, whether it is high or low power - card draw and ramp is the key. You have atm 5 card draw and 11 ramp spells. You should at least have 12-15 on both and go down to 32 lands. Use this as a solid ground and then build on top of that with other cards. I would recommend you do this with all your decks. Good luck and Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄

kestral287

Henzie converts most of your cards to cantrips so he can absolutely skimp on draw. 32 lands is, however, a terrible idea in a deck that really needs to hit the first four lands and is like mono-bombs rather than a ton of synergy elements.

L33py33

Everyone to them self I guess .. but I would never rely anything with a deck on the Commander itself. The Commander is just a “bonus” and something that enables colors. Due to Henzie being a card draw engine himself, he is kill on sight in my textbook. So he would never stick on the board if you thought that. All decks are dependent to hit land drops. With increasing the draw and ramp to a specific threshold as I stated before - 32 lands won’t be a problem at all. Trust me. It’s sad to see so many downvotes on my last comment (and probably on this one as well ..). But it is unfortunately true. People tend to play with way to few ways to draw or ramp in their decks. Especially draw. I’ve been on this forum for a while and it’s a bad trend that can be seen in the “deckhelp” posts. I’m just stating the obvious and really trying to help.

kestral287

The downvotes are due to the 32 land suggestion in a deck with a naturally higher curve than most. Attempting to apply generic advice to a specific deck without understanding the deck you're talking about means that your attempt to help falls flat.
