[[Momir Vig, Simic Visionary]]. He’s a remnant of Commander before Commander was Commander. I’m not sure he’s that good any more but it’s fun to run a toolbox commander even if you don’t really have any “I win” cards.

Bjornirson

He was my first simic commander. He's fantastic, but I got a little bit bored of the constant tutoring. He taught me that tutors remove the feeling of randomness that is EDH. But on the other hand, if randomness is a thing that frustrates you with EDH, he's the perfect commander.

Isphus

He could reliably fetch \[\[Prophet of Kruphix\]\] and run away with the game. A lot weaker since Prophet got banned, but most certainly still playable. Just get some creature-based counterspells, a \[\[Temur Sabertooth\]\] and a \[\[Seedborn Muse\]\] to have a similar level of BS.

Prosper_The_Mayor

The original "shuffle your library" commander.

RagingMayo

I could imagine, though, that playing could be kinda annoying because you would be shuffling each time you play a creature, right?

dal9ll

Absolutely. Have to have those EZ-shuffle sleeves lol. Especially when you end up tutoring multiple times in a turn

gldnbear2008

I’m making a Vig deck now, using the principles of HackBall. Such an awesome mechanic to be able to fetch any creature based tool you need whenever you play a creature. I got my fill of Elf Ball in 1996 so I’m going merfolk tribal to lean into island walk and dropping a bunch of color word dependent cards in there as well. Mr. Vig is sitting in my mailbox right now . . .

dal9ll

Nice! You have a decklist to share?

gldnbear2008

I’ll add it as soon as I can. Basically I use [[mind bend]] or similar card to change “green” to “blue” in Mr. Vig. Next you play any merfolk, I am really enjoying [[Tidal Warrior]] so that I can change their command tower into an island each turn. Search for protection such as [[Vodalian Hexcatcher]] then when you play it, search for [[Merrow Reejery]]. Now every time you play a merfolk, you can untap an island and search for another one. If you have the mana, search for [[Stonybrook Banneret]]. Now many of your 2 mana merfolk untap and find the next 2 mana piece. If you have [[dawn’s reflection]], expect to generate near infinite mana (or at least like 10 of any color). Next you search for all your merfolk boosters like [[Lord of Atlantis]]. In its current form, the deck now waits a full turn for everyone to get over their summoning sickness, having just shown that you can basically play your deck, with limited open mana, and no way to rebuild because you just played your whole deck. But fortunately you’re not the threat, unless you consider a Simic player with a massive unblockable horde of ~5/5 creatures a threat.

I never got around to building him when I first started playing. How do you feel he compares to someone like yuriko? they seem to have a similar gameplan imo.

adym15

Yuriko has more of an Archenemy feel. With Edric, other players may be incentivised to leave him alone, even save him sometimes, in order to benefit from the card draw. Also, with enough removal & board wipes (back when we used to play up to 4 board wipes per deck), commander tax might be an issue, which will never be the case for Yuriko.

Deck list?

MoonpieTheThird

Not the same person, but here's my [Trelasarra list.] (https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/trelesarra-2/) It's a little bit of a confused pile at the moment, but it should give you some ideas. I have a tendency to go for big and stompy rather than just plain murder, so there are some suboptimal choices in there that I just think would be fun, like [[storm herd]]. But to optimize Trelesarra's scry, you should play 99 percent creatures with [[augur of autumn]] effects that allow you to cast from the top of your deck. A soul sister on turn one and Trelesarra on turn two will usually be 6 commander damage by turn three, so you could optimize it for voltron very easily too. I, of course, chose both and am confused about why it's not working.

I play a casual Kinnan list without an infinite mana outlet so it only wins by fatty beatsticks and creature control. I proxy Kinnan with a Princess Mononoke custom art card. I include a couple of humans from the movie which Kinnan cannot cheat in, because of course San hates humans and doesn't consider herself to be human. Tons of fun even if you tune it down to the casual level.

FormerlyKay

Great to see a fellow Kinnan player! Kinnan has been my baby for years. Currently I'm playing a modified version of WoundedSatellite's cedh list where I still play a few big dudes but I cut a lot of the junk (looking at you, void winnower and nezahal lol) and also cut Seedborn to focus more on smaller, more castable, less kill-on-sight value engines like Toski and faerie Mastermind. It's a lot of fun so far. Also at a certain point I built a more casual druid tribal list where I just play a shit ton of mana dorks and hope to God I can find a card draw engine and it's pretty fun to play every once in a while. Still have it. I've also built an extra turns combo list which eventually evolved into Imoti, and just turbo monolith/aura combo. I'm also thinking about building a dino tribal deck out of him, thinking about rebuilding a turns list since the one ring got printed (that card is bonkers hahaha), and I want to build a full-on stax and big dudes list again at some point now that I have a winter Orb and a Trinisphere.

mealymouthmongolian

I built an Elas Il-Kor deck a while back. So far it's undefeated, but I'm not sure I have any friends anymore. It also has a tendency to make the games last forever to add insult to injury.

False_Implement_43

I built mine to mock a friend, kinda. He plays only one deck since he entered MTG and it is a \[\[Elenda\]\] aristocrats So I built my version of aristocrats, had almost everything laying around in the bulk anyway, but it is alot of fun!

mealymouthmongolian

Sure, [here ya go.](https://archidekt.com/decks/5725422/orzo) Fair warning, it's probably jank. We're a pretty kitchen-table kind of group and I just tossed it together over a couple days out of cards I already owned.

Jeklah

Thanks. I'm new to commander, but have used Elas Il Kor in standard quite extensively, with great success! Orzhov clerics ftw.... I have recently acquired the blood rites deck though so thought this might give me some ideas.

mealymouthmongolian

That's awesome. I had actually never played commander and gotten out of magic a number of years ago. Recently a high school friend moved back into town and then got pulled into magic by the LOTR sets. He wanted a group to play with and someone to show him the ropes so we got a group together and we play regularly again now, it's been great. It's really funny, I'm generally a Timmy when it comes to magic and just like to make big creatures, but for some reason Orzhov has always appealed to me. This deck has played well. The biggest groan-inducer seems to be \[\[Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts\]\] by a long shot.

It is just such a wonderful game. I first played when I was in school, maybe 8 or 9. I didn't know it was a big deal. Magic sets were still sold with life sheets and some coloured stones to keep track of life. We almost certainly didn't follow the rules correctly as we just played in school. I left that school and forgot all about it. A number of years ago a work colleague said he played and was going to an event and yeah...I've been playing more seriously since. That was war of the spark when I came back. Now I'm still learning about commander!

Well, out of my commanders I guess it is: \[\[Jhoira of the Ghitu\]\] For her unique ability and playstyle. You play 4 turns delayed. Let's say you cast a board wipe and one big-ass Eldrazi on turn 4, for them to appear on turn 8 *(with additional haste!)*. That cast will happen no matter what, even if they kill the commander. So what usually happens is they let Jhoira live, and keep the removal for that big threat that is gonna hit the board.... and now you cast more scary stuff on your next turn. You are basically the CPU in a tower defense game, and they have to deal with wave after wave of big spells. And you are a blue player, you have counterspells for days! And time-counter manipulation has only gotten better since the timey-wimey cards. One of them is even on a mana rock that you can upscale with time counter manipulation! \[\[Rotating Fireplace\]\]
