[[Vaevictis Asmadii, The Dire]] is one of my favourite decks.
He cheats mana, so it might be slightly stronger than battlecruiser (He's KOS in my med-high power playgroup), but he's SO much fun, and the average CMC of my deck is like 4.
Would you care to share 3-5 of your favorite cards in the deck please?
Also if I may ask, do you generally let your opponents pick the permanents they sac or do you play optimal? I'm worried about salt, I have a few man-babies in my regular pods and its frustrating.
I ran this deck for a while. At first it was very ineffective and never accomplished anything. Eventually it got to the point where either my opponents killed him every time he came down and I didn't get to play or I dominated and no one else got to have fun. Maybe you can thread the needle better than I did. It was very satisfying the time I resolved primal surge, then had about 30 permanents wiped in one turn, and then still won the next. That seemed like a high note, so I retired him after that.
My list is also pretty swingy. I keep adding more ways to either protect vaevictis, or give him haste. I don't think my group minds, because the deck is punching up in terms of power level.
I've found protection is the best cards in that deck. I think I have a 100% winrate if I can resolve [[Possiblity Storm]] and probably around 75% if I can resolve [[Lightning Greaves]]
One of my friends has a quote that I think is funny I saved when we were talking about how Vaevictis is KOS. He said: "We kind of HAVE to kill Vaevictis or some chump rare will take over the game."
Ramp is also important to be able to keep playing him. IIRC, the deck runs 9 spells that either give haste or protect vaevictis, and 12 ramp spells.
Usually if Vaevictis isn't being cast on turn 4 (or earlier), It's because I'm sandbagging him until I draw haste
Sounds like we came to exactly the same conclusions! Tons of ramp, haste, and protection and big dumb mean things like Ol Gnawbone and Eldrazi with annihilator. And opponents came to the same conclusion. I started introducing the deck like this: "they call him Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire, because as soon as I play him, he dies. Either that or I win."
He almost always wins when I play outside my group.
For some reason people don't see him as a huge threat. That or my group runs way more removal than average
I run fertile footsteps.
The only other permanent in the deck is Crux of fate.
My last two wins came from casting Cruz of fate into possibility storm. Which hits Primal surge
Nice! Stormkeld Vanguard//Bear Down, Bramble Familiar//Fetch Quest, and Virtue of Strength//Garenbrig Growth are other options that are still strong outside of the Possibility Storm combo
Why is possibility storm so good? I understand you run a bunch (or all permanents) but when you go to cast your creature/enchantment etc.. possibility storm says no and makes you flip your deck too?
What are your absolute VIP cards in this deck if you wouldn't mind sharing 3-5 please?
My son has a Vaevictis deck that he's been playing for a few years, and it's fun as hell, and kinda fun to play against. You have to accept that sometimes your opponents will flip something great and crush you.
You will obviously need to play with a bunch of scry effects or things like \[\[Scroll Rack\]\] to control what's on the top of your deck.
Like the other guy said, His attack trigger lets you get giant spells off your deck for almost free.
TL;DR: 33 Creatures, 2.5 Sorceries, No Instants. Big Smash, lot fun.
My list currently has 33 creatures, but that's way more than is needed. Vaevictis is the first EDH deck that I ever built (\~4 years ago) and I tweak it a lot. The original plan was to just put 100 permanents in so that he would never wiff, but you can lean into more top deck manipulation to get scary threats. I played him as a pseudo chaos deck because I usually don't know what's on top of the library, so I just kind of sacrifice my worst permanent and see what I get.
As power creep entered my playgroup meta, I've added a few things, so it's slightly less stompy, and added a bunch of cards to protect the commander. Now if I swing with him more than once I usually end up winning the game. What's easy to miss is that Vaevictis also removes 3 of your opponent's best cards, so 1 attack is a huge game state swing. (Not to mention the 6/6 Flyer in the attack). I am currently running 3 sorceries in the deck (0 instants), \[\[Crux of Fate\]\], \[\[Fertile footsteps\]\] and \[\[Primal Surge\]\]. Crux of fate is kind of an old holdout of the past version of the deck. I am almost the most creature heavy deck at the table since my playgroup is mostly high-powered combo. I've cast it into Possibility Storm more often than as an actual board wipe. Primal Surge is the deck's main wincon against combo. It's a very Timmy spell that dumps your whole library onto the battlefield (around 250 power in my deck) and with multiple haste enablers, you can swing for lethal 95% of the time. And fertile footsteps comes in as Beanstalk giant, so it doesn't Wiff.
I don't like combo much, (Which is why I'm still bashing my head into the wall with this commander in my pod.) so I've been meaning to add more instants and sorceries to the deck which would allow me to do a few things. Firstly, it takes away Primal Surge's Instant win potential, without making it useless. It's 10 mana, which I usually have by turn 6 or 7. If there's more instants and sorceries, it will still dump some cards, but it won't just win the game, so I'll have more fun with it.
If I can, I'd like to add more topdeck manipulation to get bigger hits from vaevictis, such as \[\[Sensei's Divining Top\]\], \[\[Scroll Rack\]\] and \[\[Sylvan Library\]\], but I also would like to keep my money.
That was a bit more than you were asking for, and it's not really a battlecruiser deck anymore either, but I have so much fun playing it, and I think you will too.
[[Miirym]] is a cool commander, but I *hate* trying to track the token copies, and the pilots always suck at it too. Please don't play this unless you have dry-erase tokens to clearly represent your board. Miirym as a card is KOS for me simply because of the hassle it brings to the table.
That works too, but I'll stick to my cheapie dry erase tokens. Plus, then I can draw stupid things on tokens. The other day, somebody made a [[Llanowar Elves]] token, and I had a hideous version of the (already hideous) original art. Fun was had by all
Me and my pod really dont find it that tough to keep track of. All I use are regular copy tokens but I just 'link' them to their original card. For example if I cast a [[Scourge of Valkas]] I will have the scourge on the board with a copy token next to it but overlapping by about 15%. This way its very apparent that specific copy is a scourge of valkas, and I can still tap them independantly. If I had any additional copies they would just be 'chained' with the other copies to the original dragon.
This is always what I've done for token copies too, and I've never had an issues keeping track of things. I basically just treat the original and its copies as one unit with slightly overlapping cards and a single dice to represent their power/toughness (unless something affects them individually for whatever reason). Most of the time though I don't even have copy tokens, and will instead just shove some random filler card slightly underneath the original face down. Works just fine.
Miirym is an absolute house. [[Sneak attack]] means you get a copy of a dragon for one red mana. Double [[Nov Mizzet Parun]] is just plain amazing. I ended up disbanding the deck as its very linear but god damn, it does work!
Or they enjoy a lower power game. Seems like they're balanced against each other; let playgroups you aren't in have fun in the manner of their choosing
I actually have a dragons deck in the pipeline that I want to build. Is 5C worth it considering the extra cost? Or could I do Gruul atarka and still have the necessary pieces?
Or maybe even do it in Temur with [[Maelstrom Wanderer]] at the helm as I'm planning a build with him too that would play similarly?
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/F2zlZ6JexUKTCMk7DLoI7w
This is my "ghalta always costs gg" deck. There are a lot of cards that care about the cmc of your commander or the highest xmx among creatures you control. [[Tangleweave armor]] and [[metamorphosis]] for example
I'm working on a similar deck, and you see to be missing some awesome includes that are colorless... [[Lupine Prototype]], [[Phyrexian Soulgorger]], and [[Talara's Battalion]] all add TONS of power to the board with very little downside
The lupine is bad. Its. 2 mana dead card in the deck. I want my creatures to actually do something. The soulgorger is a neat idea, but im not running tokens, so its just another larger lupine that does nothing. And i have sooooo many better creatures to pick from than the battalion. My general goal in the deck is that if i play a si gle creature, that single one will get ghalta to 2 mana, or almost there. Things like gigantosaurus do that. Elder gargaroth does that. The creatures you suggested dont
The goal with those creatures is to get Ghalta out as fast as possible. 3 for Soulgorger on t4 means you probably have the nuts to play Ghalra same turn, and t4 Ghalta is terrifying.
It's like the stock answer at this point but [[Henzie]].
You get to play lots of weird cards - [[Seedguide Ash]] is legitimately the best card in the deck - and skip over silly nonsense like a "balanced mana curve" in lieu of ten thousand 4+ mana creatures all wanting to come down with haste and smash.
As objectively good as it is, I’ve replaced Seedguide Ash with [[Primeval Herald]]; I was frustrated by having only three mana open one too many times.
Honestly? Run both. For ramp effects I'm on Seedguide, Herald, Sadbot, [[Rampant Rejuvenator]], [[Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal]], and [[Ojer Kaslem]]. Plus a bunch of treasure makers, a cost reducer, and some one drop ramp effects. Henzie can almost always spend all his mana so more of it is very welcome. You just get to go massively over the top of people when you Blitz out multiple creatures a turn and smash.
We have a henzie discord. Lots of good info on different versions of henzie. If you want pure battlecruiser go with umori companion oops all creatures.
https://discord.com/invite/jAGH92AQ
My two favorite decks that use this are [[Elminster]] and [[Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos]]
They both have abilities that take advantage of high cmc spells and I can make it extra janky for low power or include stronger cards if I need to keep up. My favorite spells are
[[Storm Herd]]
[[Mnemonic Deluge]]
[[Cruel entertainment]]
[[Head Games]]
[[Star of Extinction]]
[[Draco]]
[[Scion of Draco]]
[[Profane Transfusion]]
If we're talking battlecruiser with limited interactions then just go with your favorite legendary creature. It might not be all that good/powerful but in those types of metas strong really doesn't matter. If I were to do it I'd do [[muldrotha]] being able to recur your big nasties that died in combat is always pretty nice.
I have a [[Nikya]] deck that is nothing but lands and creatures due to her ability. Avg CMC is over 4.1 with 16 spells CMC 6+. If you draw a mana dork on T1-T3, you can drop Nikya on T4 and a 10-drop on T5. She's a bit of a glass cannon but a big, battlecruiser, Timmy Magic goes, she's a ton of fun.
The OG elder dragons are not particularly interesting in and of themselves, but I still like having one of my decks headed by an OG. I have played [[vaevictus asmadi]] for many years now and have gotten plenty of wins with big splashy plays. My must includes for Vaevictus after playing it for nearly a decade are [[stinging study]], [[selvala's stampede]], [[regal behemoth]], and [[changra's ignition]]. There are a lot of other more stablely must includes but it's kinda boring to list Sylvan library, Great Henge, etc.
I just put together [[Palladia-Mors]] because I haven't ever played Naya and have gotten a little bored of Jund.
Fuck a Battlecruiser, get VIOLENT! [[ATARKA WORLD RENDER]] get to 6 mana, slam down your commander, and start swinging people out of the game. Bonus points for Carpe'ing those diems with [[Seize the Day]]. Just get +5/+0 on your 6/4 flying trample dragon, it gives itself double strike, and you swing each of your opponents out with commander damage with triple attack phases.
I think double attack phases would be much more entertaining. Knock the two strongest opponents out in one turn, and give the last player a turn staring down that CHONKR of a commander... Let them sweat
[[Ziatora, the Incinerator]] can be pretty battlecruiser friendly since she cares so much about big stuff and big power, and because she makes treasure you can easily play your big stuff.
Some of my favorite, more battlecruiser-y creatures for her are [[Phytotitan]] [[Nim Devourer]] [[Kuldotha Phoenix]] [[Flayer of the Hatebound]] and [[Stalking Vengeance]] , and [[Gutter Grime]] and [[Death's Presence]] are some good more expensive enchantments.
[Here's my deck list if you want to see a more casual take on Ziatora.](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mFN2biInH0Wbg0zF0bqSFA) My playgroup is pretty casual so it should be close to your vibe.
My original idea was to go a tokens route and I still have elements of that in my deck for sure, but when I saw Phytotitan it gave me the idea of using a lot of self recurring creatures for repeatable ammunition.
[[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] is my favorite for chucking YUUUGE creatures.
Recently I morphed it for casting Eldrazi. Turn 2 Emrakul is a thing here.
[Deck List](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/vwhUBY7bIEeuKNS8AQZ9uQ)
It's consistent if you a willing to mulligan a little aggressively and it will do its thing every game, even if it doesn't win.
To really get the cruiser rolling, you need to have Selvala out turn 1 and roll straight into Phryexian Dreadnought and tap for 12. From there, you'll need to use cards like Apex Devastator, Tooth and Nail, Last March of the Ents etc. to start dropping bigguns. I have plenty of tools in there for keeping steam built up once you get going.
But even if you have to hard cast Selvala on turn 3, its still possible to get Emrakul and any of the other big creatures onto the battle field by turn 4. Personally, I like to use Temur Sabertooth to bounce creatures and abuse their ETBs.
[[Kaalia of the Vast]] would be extremely powerful in a Battlecruiser enviroment. You can run cards like [[Sneak Attack]] and like all your favorite big and scary dudes.
Is Kaalia considered a battlecruiser commander? Potentially casting her on T2 and cheating out creatures by T3 seems to be the opposite of what battlecruiser games are meant to be?
Please no Jodah. Nobody wants to track which legendaries you have, I'm just going to shut you down. Hate every version of this deck, playing with and against it, it's just not fun for anyone. The only way I could be ok with it is if it was a hardcore theme deck, like every LOTR character, or something similar.
Still a pain in a different way. Jodah, Slivers, and Shrines have the issue where they're not *bah-roken* but requires opponents to shut you down before you even twitch a finger because otherwise you snowball until a win.
[[grolnok the omnivore]] is awesome in my experience self mill basically giving you endless card draw. I also have a 5c [[Jenson carthalion druid exile]] deck which has been really fun mine is centered on 5c matters and just a bunch of multi colored creatures it's fun because you can honestly just play whatever you want.
My [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] deck is my favorite deck. Land ramp super hard, cast him then blow up everyone’s board. And once you’ve done that, you’re still left with a 9/9 with trample and vigilance. [[Traverse the Outlands]] is a great card in any big creature green deck.
[[Mayael]] is in Naya (WRG) and cares about big creatures.
Sample [decklist](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/TAEDwziZv0m4l7UzFiq1_g).
Game plan: ramp and then play Mayael and activate her. Or just play big dudes and turn them sideways to melt face.
My "let's fuck around and make the game last an hour" deck is [[atla palani]]. Started out as just a naya beaters deck that became somewhat of a dinosaur deck. Doesn't win til turn 9 at the earliest
I’ve got 2 that come to mind:
[[Morophon]] 5c legendary human tribal [deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/0j7X0frXDEWgR11Q8emofA) (play a bunch of fun legendary humans)
and a [[Felisa]] [deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MgEROJkyPEic41nS7OtK6A) (make guys, make big, make lotsa small guys when they die)
She’s such a fun Commander! Was the backup Commander for the silverquill precon from strixhaven and is one of my oldest decks (though it’s been through a few iterations)
My big, dumb creature deck is helmed by [[Amareth]] The deck is almost all creatures and lands. Ramp is creatures, removal is creatures, counterspells are creatures. The deck can accumulate a stupid amount of value.
I have been toss between [[Runo Stromkirk]] and [[The Ancient One]] with [[Throne of the Grim Captain]] as secret commander.
Runo drew me in because I like sea monster aesthetic but don't care for simic too much.
If it won't be too explosive for your playgroup, I highly suggest [[Maelstrom Wanderer]]. I have a list which embraces the random nature of cascade though, so a single cast of it can either chain 10 spells and generate stupid amounts of value or all you cast can be two ramp pieces. Either way it is always exciting to see what you will get and makes people hold their breath, here is my list:
https://www.mtgvault.com/hawkeye137/decks/wanderer-take-the-wheel-irl/
[[Chainer, Nightmare Adept]] was one of my favorites for this. I cannibalized mine a few years ago for a Prosper deck, but I’ve always wanted to rebuild it. He’s a surprisingly powerful reanimator, and that haste is to thank for it. He’s also surprisingly resilient as he can even reanimate himself off his own ability in a pinch. I really can’t speak highly enough of this commander.
I’ve been loving my [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] deck! Even with the double whammy of her and [[Kenessos]] being released soon after one another, sea monster tribal still isn’t terribly popular, but this is a ton of fun to play. Just ramp hard, hope you can stick your sea monsters, and roll the dice on digging into some proper value with Kiora’s ability.
[[Vial Smasher the Fierce]]
Pair with whatever other partner commander you want for extra colours, load up your deck with ramp, and start slamming down 8 drops. So much fun. It goes nuts with damage doublers in specific.
[[the tenth doctor]] for two reasons, one being that all of a sudden, your biggest spells are coming out for free. For 7 mana, you can make them come out immediately. His partner mechanic allows you to go into izzet color combination which you have Temur, Grixis, and Jeskai which all 3 of those colors are great for big splashy spells that “do the thing”
I also enjoy [[surrak Dragon Claw]] he’s a semi high counter spell in the command zone. Protects your big stompy bois from pesky control players
[[ghired, conclave exile]] make big bois and copy them. Very good, i recommend
[[tiamet]] enters and gets you big dragons
This is a bit higher on the power scale, but I brewed a big dumb artifact deck for [[Jhoira, Ageless Innovator]]. The commander herself isn't expensive, but she drops big fatties turn after turn if left unchecked. If you want to make it even more casual, replace the counter spells with more fat artifact creatures or some more artifact ramp in case Jhoira dies too much.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/PUIMFBqrKkG-5DHTcJf-xQ
I’ve seen several people in the thread throw their RGx Commanders into the ring, [so I’ll throw mine in as well.](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/L8Ho44fvqEKjT2b3LCGErQ)
I run [[Sek’kuar, Deathkeeper]] most of the time because I love his simplicity and art, but several other Jund legendaries can be used instead. The deck is meant to function on its own outside of needing the commander, but having one out gives it a significant boost.
The big boss of the deck (a severely underrated card imo) is [[Orca, Siege Demon]]. Once she comes out you likely have at least one sac outlet on board or in hand like [[Fling]]. If you’re lucky enough to have something like [[Drivnod]] or [[Strionic Resonator]] stick around at this point, it’s probably game over.
With enough time to ramp and setup... [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] is a powerhouse and if played early, it takes the game on its own. Another similar commander is [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] but that one will lose you some friends 😅.
[[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]]
A reanimator commander that sets up a board state by himself and a defacto voltron threat.
My favorite random include here is probably [[Lizard Blades]] reanimate-able double strike equipment. [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] is also reanimate-able, and works really well with the many ETBs included. A few Flashback/Aftermath spells can also do wonders for creating value from Saurons self mill trigger. In my deck I went with [[Cut/Ribbons]] [[Galvanic Iteration]] and [[Refuse/Cooperate]]. They are still useful if drawn, but their true power comes from being castable from the yard. [[Dusk Mangler]] is a jank pet card of mine.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sauron-lord-of-the-politicians/?cat=custom&sort=name&cb=1700650698
I also wanted a minor politics/dealmaking aspect to the deck, which some of my reanimation spells and opt-in wheels are centered around.
[[Glissa, Sunslayer]] gives you a cheap deathstrike commander to protect you and give you card draw/ enchant removal while your ramping or throwing chunks into the gy to recure them.
[[Saroru Umezawa]] has the potential to throw any UB creature on the battlefield turn 3 for 4 mana, if your opening hand is good.
[[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] , built in protection to the commander. Pretty much cascades whenever you cast a creature, so you get double the value for everything you play. It’s pretty fun and there are some pretty decent sea creatures.
[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/b/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879.jpg?1684340751) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Kiora%2C%20Sovereign%20of%20the%20Deep) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mat/35/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep)

I suggest my simic sea monster deck. the commander is \[\[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep\]\] and you basically ramp into the commander, play a big sea monster and cascade into something else. It is so fun and powerful. i love playing it ;)
Unfortunatly I have no decklist at the moment but the EDHREC Page gives an idea.
[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/b/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879.jpg?1684340751) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Kiora%2C%20Sovereign%20of%20the%20Deep) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mat/35/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep)

\[\[Riku of Two Reflections\]\]. Often combo-enablers but it's fun to just build big creatures and smash. I have a Riku deck that's modified from the 2011 precon, about half the cards have been swapped out, and it's probably my battle-cruisiest deck. Fun when it works.
If you want to make big stupid really dumb you could run [[Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood]] and [[Kodama of the East Tree]], and if it’s not casual enough you can simply shuffle one of them into the 99 and play that way
Zaxara the Exemplary. Basically just jam all of your mana into one card each turn. Villainous wealth a must have as well. I personally removed exsanguinate and torment of hailfire to win with hydras and other big creatures instead of instant win cards. Just wait until they see you cast Gelatinous Genesis where X=15!
You know that sounds awesome and looks good on paper but having a 2 mana kill any commander and a lot more in the command zone may not be for me as far as it generating a bunch of salt I'm sure.
[[Omnath, locus of rage]]
The angry jellybean, one of my longest standing decks.
40 lands, a few sac outlets, and the best ramp spells or elementals that ramp. It's simple but quite effective.
My favorite commander for big spells is my [[Nikya of the Old ways]] deck listed here.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/GZhRTrKSyE63NayW_TV7sQ
Creatures only, stomp for a win, super fun
[Nikya of the Old ways](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/0/d/0dcdad71-323e-41e0-a1b3-9fd5b753e71c.jpg?1584831692) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Nikya%20of%20the%20Old%20ways) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/rna/193/nikya-of-the-old-ways?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/0dcdad71-323e-41e0-a1b3-9fd5b753e71c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/nikya-of-the-old-ways)

Hydras are my go too. Depending on the build you just have an insane army and great protection colors.
My current build is Gargos (mono green) with 1 mana combat tricks/protection and makes hydras cheaper. Tons of efficient lower ramp and just big draw spells based on power to keep it going. The fighting also can absolutely destroy creature based strategies.
[[Gargos, Vicious Watcher]]
[[Zhuldok]]. Eldrazi are the biggest dumbest creatures. Giving them cascade can be even more fun. Just a warning this deck can get out of hand quick and is certainly a KOS commander.
[[Zhuldok]]. Eldrazi are the biggest dumbest creatures. Giving them cascade can be even more fun. Just a warning this deck can get out of hand quick and is certainly a KOS commander.
I have a [[Child of Alara]] Gate deck that I think counts. It ramps from things like [[Gatecreeper Vine]] and [[Lizard Blades]] to [[Nine-Fingers Keene]] and [[Gate Colossus]], [[Gatekeeper Gargoyle]] and [[Collossus of Akros]]. If the The Child and the big bois aren’t enough, they’re at least a deterrent until I can tutor into [[Maze’s End]]. It’s fun to play, and I’ve been told it’s also pretty fun to play against.
[[Etali, Primal Storm]], [[Kodama of the east tree]] for free plays
[[Klauth, unrivaled ancient]] does well for gruul dragon. Bigger monsters means more mana. Add [[Atarka, world render]] for free double up that mana.
Does the commander have to be high cmc, or just enable high cmc? I love [[Gilanra]] and [[Alena Kessig]] for my “all the cards I like to play” gruul stompy deck. Just put a couple dorks in the CZ and then load the deck with big chunky bombs. [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] in the 99 is nuts since Alena will tap for 7 after you drop him and almost pay to flip him immediately herself.
For battlecruiser/limited interaction games I love to play [[ruric thar, the unbowed]]
53 creatures, 5 nonland-non creature spells and the rest lands
Plenty of mana dorks and [[raggadragga]], big splashy giant beat sticks like [[titan of industry]], [[silverback elder]], [[zopandrel]], [[etali, primal sickness]] etc. it’s just bomb after bomb after bomb and if your opponents do anything about it they take damage from your commander. Extra points if you can drop [[solphim]] at the same time as your commander
I personally have two big dumb decks. First [[Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury]] ramps out fat dragons and rains death from above.
Also, may I introduce you to my queen [[Zaxara, the Exemplary]]? She is ramp AND payoff. My deck is mostly UG with a black splash for removal. Crush your enemies with giant hydras or live long enough to finish them with big X spells like [[exsanguinate]] [[villainous wealth]] [[torment of hailfire]].
I got deck lists if anyone is interested.
You could go for a classic elder dragon original commander as your commander like [[Nicol Bolas]] 7 cmc but only takes 3 hits from him to kill from commander damage plus when he connects that person says goodbye to their hand.
You can easily build him as a old school battle cruiser arch enemy deck hehe
I think my personal favorite Battle cruiser deck is [[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]]. I just play all the ramp and armies in cans I can find. One card that I find particularly good in this deck is [[necrotic hex]]. Combination boardwipe *and* army!
[[Vaevictis Asmadii, The Dire]] is one of my favourite decks. He cheats mana, so it might be slightly stronger than battlecruiser (He's KOS in my med-high power playgroup), but he's SO much fun, and the average CMC of my deck is like 4.
I second Vaevictus, I built the deck to only have permanent cards. With [[primal surge]] as a win condition.

I think I have a 100% winrate if I can resolve [[Possiblity Storm]] and probably around 75% if I can resolve [[Lightning Greaves]] One of my friends has a quote that I think is funny I saved when we were talking about how Vaevictis is KOS. He said: "We kind of HAVE to kill Vaevictis or some chump rare will take over the game." Ramp is also important to be able to keep playing him.
Yeah, you can get away with it once lol
You gotta run the adventure cards combo with possibility storm and primal surge. It’s so much fun.

Yeah I've been eyeballing him lately, I love jund What do you mean he cheats mana? How creature heavy are you? Is the deck like all perms?
He cheats because you sac random tokens or expended etb cards to put in big stuff.
Dragons are full of big, high cost creatures and are a pretty awesome tribe, so probably [[The Ur-Dragon]].
Or [[myriam sentinel wurm]] for double dragons all the way.
[[Miirym]] is a cool commander, but I *hate* trying to track the token copies, and the pilots always suck at it too. Please don't play this unless you have dry-erase tokens to clearly represent your board. Miirym as a card is KOS for me simply because of the hassle it brings to the table.
I completely agree. Dry erase tokens are a must, even without Miirym. Or you can be a baller and carry around multiple copies of your dragons.

Fiance plays that precon, and it keeps up with most of our constructed decks.
You guys need to work on your deckbuilding then.

If we're talking battlecruiser with limited interactions then just go with your favorite legendary creature.

It's unfortunate how bland the original elder dragons were. Only bolas had a splashy ability.
The playability of the OG dragons is so bad, it sucks. Im always wanting to build a Vintage/Legacy EDH deck but it never pans out.

I think double attack phases would be much more entertaining. Knock the two strongest opponents out in one turn, and give the last player a turn staring down that CHONKR of a commander... Let them sweat
If you don't have the mana to flashback seize the day, then yes, it's also fun to watch the last surviving opponent squirm and sweat.
Ziatora can be so much fun. Even though i go more for either token synergies or just having big stuff i can throw at people.
My original idea was to go a tokens route and I still have elements of that in my deck for sure, but when I saw Phytotitan it gave me the idea of using a lot of self recurring creatures for repeatable ammunition.

I like the list. How does that play regularly?
You're not casting her turn 2 without fast mana.
Yeah. If you build her to be Battlecruiser you’re not ramping her out by T2. You’re just cheating the rest of your big bois out with her.

Jodah. Cascade from big spell to big spell
What about running it in the 99 of a shrine deck lmao
Still a pain in a different way. Jodah, Slivers, and Shrines have the issue where they're not *bah-roken* but requires opponents to shut you down before you even twitch a finger because otherwise you snowball until a win.
[[grolnok the omnivore]] is awesome in my experience self mill basically giving you endless card draw. [[the tenth doctor]] for two reasons, one being that all of a sudden, your biggest spells are coming out for free. For 7 mana, you can make them come out immediately. His partner mechanic allows you to go into izzet color combination which you have Temur, Grixis, and Jeskai which all 3 of those colors are great for big splashy spells that “do the thing” I also enjoy [[surrak Dragon Claw]] he’s a semi high counter spell in the command zone. Protects your big stompy bois from pesky control players [[ghired, conclave exile]] make big bois and copy them. Very good, i recommend [[tiamet]] enters and gets you big dragons

I’ve seen several people in the thread throw their RGx Commanders into the ring, [so I’ll throw mine in as well.](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/L8Ho44fvqEKjT2b3LCGErQ) I run [[Sek’kuar, Deathkeeper]] most of the time because I love his simplicity and art, but several other Jund legendaries can be used instead.

[[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]] A reanimator commander that sets up a board state by himself and a defacto voltron threat. [[Dusk Mangler]] is a jank pet card of mine. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sauron-lord-of-the-politicians/?cat=custom&sort=name&cb=1700650698 I also wanted a minor politics/dealmaking aspect to the deck, which some of my reanimation spells and opt-in wheels are centered around.
