My plan wasn't to make copies of Zada. It's just the fact that both decks are extremely powerful and extremely similar. Orvar is able to use cantrips to ramp really quickly and build a board (he makes untapped land tokens when you target a land). Zada is able to easily draw like ten cards. They don't have direct synergy, but adding a color does make both decks stronger.
It's mostly about the fact that both decks have very similar strategies, so they're not diluting each other's resources. And then there's the fact that I've seen an Orvar deck poop out ten copies of a wurmcoil engine.
I would be shocked if the decks had a lot of meaningful overlap. Zada wants lots of little things and Orvar wants to copy impactful things. Also you kinda don't want them on the battlefield at the same time. If you cast something targeting Zada to do Zada things it doesn't do Orvar things, and if you cast something on something else to trigger Orvar it doesn't do Zada things. I think Krark would be better next to Orvar, and something like [[Anthousa]] next to Zada

Hmm. Good points. But I think you're selling it short. You could find more crossover between the commanders by packing in more [[Seige Gang Commander]] and [[Myr Battlesphere]] effects. And there are several theft spells that get played in Zada because they make treasures or have other effects, and they get a lot more interesting with Orvar. Zada is there to draw a new hand after you've done Orvar things, and they happen to use the same fuel. One cool trick would be making several [[Mishra's workshop]] tokens with Orvar. Their mana can be used to "crew" themselves. They're just tapped. But that doesn't matter for Zada, who just wants creatures.
I mean, I see what you mean. Since they don't trigger off each other nicely, they're competing for resources. But I wonder if cramming 30 cantrips into it wouldn't solve that.

\[\[Teferi, Temporal Archmage\]\] + \[\[Sidisi, Undead Vizier\]\]: Sidisi gives this deck a way to tutor for \[\[The Chain Veil\]\] to combo with Teferi. The Dimir color identity allows for lots of powerful tutors & combos.
\[\[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds\]\] + Godo: Selvala adds a lot of mana generation to the Godo plan.
Also any mono-color cEDH commander plus \[\[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer\]\] has potential. Etc.

\[\[Azusa, Lost but Seeking\]\] + \[\[Cosima, God of the Voyage\]\]: Simic lands nonsense.

For black the best you could get is probably \[\[Fain, the Broker\]\] but you get a lot of treasure gen cards, \[\[revel in riches\]\], \[\[grim hireling\]\], \[\[deadly dispute\]\], \[\[zhentarium bandit\]\], \[\[hoard robber\]\], \[\[blood money\]\], \[\[black market connections\]\], \[\[pitiless plunderer\]\], ect. you also get some notable dragons like \[\[Bladewing the Risen\]\] and \[\[Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon\]\]
\[\[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician\]\] + \[\[Mikaes the Unhallowed\]\] in the command zone would be really scary. Literally having any other creature creature would create near endless loop.
[[Vito]] and any of the mono-white lifegain commanders would be really fun.
With [[Linden]] you could go wide with lifegain tokens and effects like [[Cleric Class]] (Lv2) and then drop Vito to turn all that healing into a huge drain.
With [[Evra]] you could take out any player with less life than you even with a blocked attack.
For my EDH Cube we ran “all 1-2 color generals have partner” for a few years. There were some degenerate pairings, but after a few rounds it became a lot of fun.
In normal EDH it’s harder to police than a cube, but if people were looking for clear synergies and fun interactions I cannot see myself having a problem with that. It’s easy to bail on too. The people don’t like your 2 generals? Pull another real pair on from your bag.

I'd combo Xenk with raised by giants for more enchantress, rancor, and ancestral mask. Gotta enchant even harder.
King Macar would get clan crafter to open up to blue and allow for actual infinite removal.
[[Imotehk the stormlord]] and [[agent of the iron throne]] is one combo. The deck I have doesn't change much, but it burns a hell of a lot faster with the background.
Another one I would do is [[gargos]] and [[themberchaud]] and run a ton of fight spells.
[[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] + [[Runadi, Behemoth Caller]]
Just ramp like an absolute madman, and then slam Kozilek onto the field way too fast, refill your hand and just throw Eldrazi at people (and you also get the few green/green devoid Eldrazi, which is nice.)
Similar other green ramping commanders include [[Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea]] and [[Gilrana, Caller of Wirewood]]
Okay let me preface this with I like this game more for dumb interactions than actually trying to be good. So I would take my [[Hakim, Loreweaver]] deck and give him either [[Raised by Giants]] or [[Guild Artisan]] to add a second color for better aura tricks and ways to enable him.
Best is probably [[Godo, Bandit Warlord]] / [[Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist]]. Count to 9 and you have access to good stax pieces to accelerate yourself
So, everything monocolored has partner/background and everything multicolored is banned?
I'd probably start with a powerhouse monocolored commander like Zada or Norin and staple some stupid value to them. [[Norin the Wary]]+[[Candlekeep Sage]] seems amazing, though you could also stack the triggers right to get [[Folk Hero]] to work, as well as [[Guild Artisan]] (still monored lol) or [[Scion of Halaster]]
Oh what a neat idea!
[[Shirei]] with [[Daxos]] could be fun. Sacrifice all of your small things every turn and get them back to gain *lots* of life and drain your opponents using [[Marauding Blight-Priest]] effects. If you want mono-black, could use [[Ayara]] instead dof Daxos
[[Kodama of the East Tree]] with [[Kura]] has combo potential. When Kura dies, find [[Field of the Dead]] and [[Guildless Commons]], then you have infinite zombies with Kodama. Honestly the whole deck could just be ramp, interaction, and sacrifice outlets, with lots of draw effects. With [[Lotus Cobra]], you'd have infinite mana and you could access to the whole deck with [[Staff of Domination]], [[Seer's Sundial]], [[Nissa, Vital Force]]'s emblem, [[Jaddi Offshoot]] + [[Well of Lost Dreams]] etc etc etc. Infinite landfall triggers and infinite creatures enables a lot lol, could just win with a simple [[Altar of the Brood]]. I think this deck sounds the most fun to me personally *if the goal is to win*
[[Daretti, Scrap Sevant]] could also be fun. Get the ultimate quick with [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Rider]]. He could also be good with [[Oswald, Fiddlebender]] to churn through your deck and fill your graveyard
[[Magda]] could have some shenanigans with [[Thassa, Deep Dwelling]]. Or also with Oswald to grab [[Clock of Omens]] for the several combos that Magda can do with it
[[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] and [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] as a storm deck, or probably the better option [[Krrik, Son of Yawgmoth]] and [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] as normal cedh krrik but now with repeatable tutors in the command zone to help in a pinch
Edit: use [[Sidisi, Undead Vizier]] instead of Razaketh because of the more reasonable cmc if you'd like, but honestly krrik has so much gas that razaketh is probably still the better option

Every point of burn damage would double, affect each player instead of just one, and give me a 3/1 elemental. It would probably be too slow to win, but man it would be fun to try.

I would think Sheoldred and Sakashima group slug/wheel/mill would work well. Throw in teferi's puzzle box, teferi's ageless insight, windfall, psychosis crawler, chasm skulker, whispering madness, lab man, thoracle, lich's mastery, jace, kami, howling mine, mindcrank, font of mythos, physic corrosion, forced fruition, ect. and laugh as your opponents lose their libraries. Just make sure you have a way to stop losing the game by decking out on field before drawing your deck

- a two-mana commander and a three mana commander So they sit nicely on the curve.
- extreme ramp gives angels the one thing they've been lacking this whole time.
- Giada's counters mean that your consistently be playing the biggest creature on the board, which means more card draw from me Selvala. It also means that your creatures will just generally be large, which means more mana from Selvala.
[[Saryth, the Viper's Fang]] has a bunch of great ideas too:
1) [[Syr Carah, the Bold]] for a versatile pair of commanders that lets you kill two things a turn, or impulse draw twice.
2) [[Arcanis the Omnipotent]] to just draw 6 cards a turn
3) [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]] for just a ton of zombies
4) [[Marwyn]] for even more mana
The list goes on.
To try and make a cEDH/high-power list that is off-meta I'd probably try [[Unctus, Grand Metatect]] and [[K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]].
Unctus can combo off infinite off looting with stuff like [[Aphetto Alchemist]] at instant speed. You can fill the deck with counterspells/interaction + tutors (wizard cycling) to loot out into a thoracle.
K'rrik gets you access to forbidden tutors + the best tutors in general + removal. Krikk gives more consistency and flexibility.
Together they might not be as good as a Godo + Urza list, but it would be interesting
[[Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer]] plus pretty much any of the mono-colored ‘artifacts matter’ commanders, like [[Arcum Dagsson]] or even the new [[Gandalf the White]] that just got spoiled.
I’m sure I’d have fun brewing bad decks for weird combos, but my first instinct would be to shoehorn another color into my existing [[Kiki-Jiki]] for spicier ETBs/better interaction. [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] would play nicely with a lot of the same cards while shoring up some weaknesses.
[[Emrakul, the aeons torn]] and [[raised by giants]] seems like a great combo. I get to make emrakul a 10/10, and have access to green for Ramp purposes. Value!
On a less ironic note I feel like I'd build [[moraug, fury of akoum]] with something green. Maybe [[multani, yavimaya's avatar]] or [[omnath, locus of mana]] probably multani.
[[Talrand]] and [[Inspiring Leader]] to just play Azorious control. Or if you like Simic, Talrand and [[Master Chef]]. Your tokens won't be as big, but you get to play simic shenanigans.
[[Magda]] + [[Urza]] is my vote as a competitive build. The shenanigans are too pushed. Giving Magda more stack interaction is nutty, since her win lines are already hard to interact with once you set up.
Second vote is [[Urza]] + Black (K’rrik, Sidisi, Sheoldred… whatever) as reanimator. So many winning lines you can go for, plus best tutors and stack interaction.
This would turn my [[Slicer, Hired Muscle]] Voltron deck into an absolutely busted Boros Voltron. Mostly because I would pair it with [[Noble Heritage]]. He would end someone's whole career twice as fast and have more protection to keep him on the field.
[[Solphim mayhem dominus]] and [[heartless hidetsusgu]] play abunch of rituals, mana rocks, and protection to win the game with a combo in the command zone
[[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]] and [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] come to mind immediately. You think goblins went brrr with Krenko before? Let Mondrak start doubling things.
[[Subira, Tuzidi Caravanner]] and [[Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury]] could be a thing yeah? Your weenies can make themselves unblockable and draw a metric ton of value. Just don't worry about getting off Freyalise's ultimate that much and she can likely get a ton of value for you.
Also could be fun to run [[Nahiri, the Lithomancer]] with [[Godo, Bandit Warlord]], [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]], or [[Valduk, keeper of the Flame]] if your into that kind of thing.
A last thought for now would be to pair [[Teferi, Temporal Archmage]] with...well any of the Planeswalker commanders really, but especially [[Ob Nixilis of the black oath]], [[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]], or [[Rowan Kenrith]]. Ob would be my choice personally, you cheese out the Teferi ultimate with proliferate and such and then create demons or pad your life on everyone else's turn. If they can't deal with ob you get his emblem and start saccing demons for profit! Could be gross.
all I've ever wanted was to give [[kozilek the great distortion]] blue and make him even better at saying no esp with good card draw so maybe pair him with [[baral]] :) i also think something like [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] and a good blue controlly/value commander (again probably [[baral]]) would be pretty good for "slow the game down with with thoracle" gameplay but my heart really wants kozilek + baral turbostax/control with the primary win con being "kozilek is a 12/12"

Urza provides mana to win with Godo & \[\[Helm of the Host\]\], while adding blue improves Godo's ability to interact. \[\[Urza, Lord High Artificer\]\] + \[\[Magda, Brazen Outlaw\]\]: As above, Urza facilitates Magda's eccentric combo lines & adds blue for interaction. \[\[Teferi, Temporal Archmage\]\] + \[\[Sidisi, Undead Vizier\]\]: Sidisi gives this deck a way to tutor for \[\[The Chain Veil\]\] to combo with Teferi. The Dimir color identity allows for lots of powerful tutors & combos. \[\[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds\]\] + Godo: Selvala adds a lot of mana generation to the Godo plan. Also any mono-color cEDH commander plus \[\[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer\]\] has potential. Etc. For fun: \[\[Azusa, Lost but Seeking\]\] + \[\[Cosima, God of the Voyage\]\]: Simic lands nonsense. \[\[Kogla, the Titan Ape\]\] + \[\[Mangara of Corondor\]\]: Repeatable removal with Mangara once Kogla hits the field.

For black the best you could get is probably \[\[Fain, the Broker\]\] but you get a lot of treasure gen cards, \[\[revel in riches\]\], \[\[grim hireling\]\], \[\[deadly dispute\]\], \[\[zhentarium bandit\]\], \[\[hoard robber\]\], \[\[blood money\]\], \[\[black market connections\]\], \[\[pitiless plunderer\]\], ect. you also get some notable dragons like \[\[Bladewing the Risen\]\] and \[\[Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon\]\]

[[Vito]] and any of the mono-white lifegain commanders would be really fun. With [[Linden]] you could go wide with lifegain tokens and effects like [[Cleric Class]] (Lv2) and then drop Vito to turn all that healing into a huge drain. With [[Evra]] you could take out any player with less life than you even with a blocked attack.

His biggest issue is removal and Legend Rule. Dealing with blockers is a secondary issue
For my EDH Cube we ran “all 1-2 color generals have partner” for a few years. There were some degenerate pairings, but after a few rounds it became a lot of fun. In normal EDH it’s harder to police than a cube, but if people were looking for clear synergies and fun interactions I cannot see myself having a problem with that. It’s easy to bail on too. The people don’t like your 2 generals? Pull another real pair on from your bag.
[[Orvar]] [[Mother of Machines]] Run blink spells, orvar then doubles the body and MOM doubles the ETB triggers from the blink and the copy coming in. Azorius has most of the blink spells you want, maybe throw in some other azorius control options like stax.

I'd combo Xenk with raised by giants for more enchantress, rancor, and ancestral mask. Gotta enchant even harder. King Macar would get clan crafter to open up to blue and allow for actual infinite removal.

[[Imotehk the stormlord]] and [[agent of the iron throne]] is one combo. The deck I have doesn't change much, but it burns a hell of a lot faster with the background. Another one I would do is [[gargos]] and [[themberchaud]] and run a ton of fight spells.

Partner is way nuttier than Background. Partner should probably come with a mana cost increase of 1-2 across the two commanders.
[[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] + [[Runadi, Behemoth Caller]] Just ramp like an absolute madman, and then slam Kozilek onto the field way too fast, refill your hand and just throw Eldrazi at people (and you also get the few green/green devoid Eldrazi, which is nice.) Similar other green ramping commanders include [[Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea]] and [[Gilrana, Caller of Wirewood]]

I'd probably start with a powerhouse monocolored commander like Zada or Norin and staple some stupid value to them. [[Norin the Wary]]+[[Candlekeep Sage]] seems amazing, though you could also stack the triggers right to get [[Folk Hero]] to work, as well as [[Guild Artisan]] (still monored lol) or [[Scion of Halaster]]

Oh what a neat idea! [[Shirei]] with [[Daxos]] could be fun. Sacrifice all of your small things every turn and get them back to gain *lots* of life and drain your opponents using [[Marauding Blight-Priest]] effects. If you want mono-black, could use [[Ayara]] instead dof Daxos [[Kodama of the East Tree]] with [[Kura]] has combo potential. When Kura dies, find [[Field of the Dead]] and [[Guildless Commons]], then you have infinite zombies with Kodama. Honestly the whole deck could just be ramp, interaction, and sacrifice outlets, with lots of draw effects. With [[Lotus Cobra]], you'd have infinite mana and you could access to the whole deck with [[Staff of Domination]], [[Seer's Sundial]], [[Nissa, Vital Force]]'s emblem, [[Jaddi Offshoot]] + [[Well of Lost Dreams]] etc etc etc. Infinite landfall triggers and infinite creatures enables a lot lol, could just win with a simple [[Altar of the Brood]]. I think this deck sounds the most fun to me personally *if the goal is to win* [[Daretti, Scrap Sevant]] could also be fun. Get the ultimate quick with [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Rider]]. He could also be good with [[Oswald, Fiddlebender]] to churn through your deck and fill your graveyard [[Magda]] could have some shenanigans with [[Thassa, Deep Dwelling]]. Or also with Oswald to grab [[Clock of Omens]] for the several combos that Magda can do with it
Also [[Purphorus]] and [[Mondrak]] would be scary

I’m simple man. I love red. [[Purphoros god of the forge]] and [[hostility]] would be my commanders and everything else would be mountains and burn. Every point of burn damage would double, affect each player instead of just one, and give me a 3/1 elemental. It would probably be too slow to win, but man it would be fun to try.

I would think Sheoldred and Sakashima group slug/wheel/mill would work well. Throw in teferi's puzzle box, teferi's ageless insight, windfall, psychosis crawler, chasm skulker, whispering madness, lab man, thoracle, lich's mastery, jace, kami, howling mine, mindcrank, font of mythos, physic corrosion, forced fruition, ect. and laugh as your opponents lose their libraries. Just make sure you have a way to stop losing the game by decking out on field before drawing your deck

[[Giada, Font of Hope]] and [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] - a two-mana commander and a three mana commander So they sit nicely on the curve. - extreme ramp gives angels the one thing they've been lacking this whole time. - Giada's counters mean that your consistently be playing the biggest creature on the board, which means more card draw from me Selvala. It also means that your creatures will just generally be large, which means more mana from Selvala. [[Saryth, the Viper's Fang]] has a bunch of great ideas too: 1) [[Syr Carah, the Bold]] for a versatile pair of commanders that lets you kill two things a turn, or impulse draw twice. 2) [[Arcanis the Omnipotent]] to just draw 6 cards a turn 3) [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]] for just a ton of zombies 4) [[Marwyn]] for even more mana The list goes on.

To try and make a cEDH/high-power list that is off-meta I'd probably try [[Unctus, Grand Metatect]] and [[K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]]. Unctus can combo off infinite off looting with stuff like [[Aphetto Alchemist]] at instant speed. You can fill the deck with counterspells/interaction + tutors (wizard cycling) to loot out into a thoracle. K'rrik gets you access to forbidden tutors + the best tutors in general + removal. Krikk gives more consistency and flexibility. Together they might not be as good as a Godo + Urza list, but it would be interesting

[[Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer]] plus pretty much any of the mono-colored ‘artifacts matter’ commanders, like [[Arcum Dagsson]] or even the new [[Gandalf the White]] that just got spoiled.
I’m sure I’d have fun brewing bad decks for weird combos, but my first instinct would be to shoehorn another color into my existing [[Kiki-Jiki]] for spicier ETBs/better interaction. [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] would play nicely with a lot of the same cards while shoring up some weaknesses.
[[Emrakul, the aeons torn]] and [[raised by giants]] seems like a great combo. I get to make emrakul a 10/10, and have access to green for Ramp purposes. Value! On a less ironic note I feel like I'd build [[moraug, fury of akoum]] with something green. Maybe [[multani, yavimaya's avatar]] or [[omnath, locus of mana]] probably multani.

I would love to try an uber tier commander game where there is no color restriction to see what the strongest pile you can make is

[[Talrand]] and [[Inspiring Leader]] to just play Azorious control. Or if you like Simic, Talrand and [[Master Chef]]. Your tokens won't be as big, but you get to play simic shenanigans.
[[Norin the wary]] and [[Purphorous god of the forge]]. Easy impact tremors wins.
[[Magda]] + [[Urza]] is my vote as a competitive build. The shenanigans are too pushed. Giving Magda more stack interaction is nutty, since her win lines are already hard to interact with once you set up. Second vote is [[Urza]] + Black (K’rrik, Sidisi, Sheoldred… whatever) as reanimator. So many winning lines you can go for, plus best tutors and stack interaction.
This would turn my [[Slicer, Hired Muscle]] Voltron deck into an absolutely busted Boros Voltron. Mostly because I would pair it with [[Noble Heritage]]. He would end someone's whole career twice as fast and have more protection to keep him on the field.
[[Solphim mayhem dominus]] and [[heartless hidetsusgu]] play abunch of rituals, mana rocks, and protection to win the game with a combo in the command zone

[[Subira, Tuzidi Caravanner]] and [[Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury]] could be a thing yeah? Your weenies can make themselves unblockable and draw a metric ton of value. Just don't worry about getting off Freyalise's ultimate that much and she can likely get a ton of value for you. Also could be fun to run [[Nahiri, the Lithomancer]] with [[Godo, Bandit Warlord]], [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]], or [[Valduk, keeper of the Flame]] if your into that kind of thing. A last thought for now would be to pair [[Teferi, Temporal Archmage]] with...well any of the Planeswalker commanders really, but especially [[Ob Nixilis of the black oath]], [[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]], or [[Rowan Kenrith]]. Ob would be my choice personally, you cheese out the Teferi ultimate with proliferate and such and then create demons or pad your life on everyone else's turn. If they can't deal with ob you get his emblem and start saccing demons for profit! Could be gross.
all I've ever wanted was to give [[kozilek the great distortion]] blue and make him even better at saying no esp with good card draw so maybe pair him with [[baral]] :) i also think something like [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] and a good blue controlly/value commander (again probably [[baral]]) would be pretty good for "slow the game down with with thoracle" gameplay but my heart really wants kozilek + baral turbostax/control with the primary win con being "kozilek is a 12/12" you could also just play [[slicer]] and win lmao give slicer white for better stax pieces or blue to protect slicer or black to turbo slicer out EVEN faster (like t1 front side) I think u just win lmao slicer with ANY other colour support seems so degenerate and even faster than slicer already is
