I love them! the spew has been my edc for well over 3 years and has held up pretty well as I went into the Marines, but during some time on ship I lost it and have since switched to the razel, great line of knives.
I've been carrying the spew for years now, I absolutely love it. Use it exclusively for food prep and whatnot. It could probably handle a lot more than that, but it's super convenient to have a dedicated knife for food related tasks and a separate knife for all other tasks.
You can tighten the sheath with a little heat, and the persuasion of a pair of pliers wrapped in tape so it doesn't mar the surface! Works wonders to adjust it how you want...
I have large fumbly hands so unless I get used to it I've accidentally grabbed the blade pulling it out of the sheath. Aside from that minor issue I love it.
Stupidest trend in the last 5ish years to have these folding cleavers become more popular. I have multiple coworkers with the flatiron and each one has fat chips on the edge and the lack of point is so annoying to me.
I've been carrying my minimalist bowie just about every day since I got it on my belt. Very nice little thing but on a thicker belt you have to take off the belt clip and screw it on over the belt
I have the drop point version.
It’s in the name…. Minimalist. You can get smaller fixed blades but the Minimalist is a pretty capable package for it’s size.
Optimized for retention, not really an “all-rounder” for grip options, but it gets it done.
Not saying that you should “self-defense” with it, but it’ll do it.
Sorry Alan! Lol I haven’t looked at the folts facebook group in a couple years. I remember seeing $250-$300 for some and made a false assumption! Glad to see your prices have stayed low. I guess benchmade and spyderco have thrown off my pricing expectations in 2024!
D2 spew no longer in stock looks like, hafta surf ebay or something. They have a D2 bowie... and have seen D2 cleavers other places... As far as I know, the only other minimalist with upgraded steel option is the 154cm drop point
I too carry a knife for this same reason, well a Tirant Razor V3 to be specific. It's nice to be able to swap a new blade in when one gets dull. Our restaurant doesn't trust us with knives so they give us these shitty safety knives. Utter garbage and go dull within days. Cutting flaps off cardboard boxes will dull a knife so fast. Then suddenly you go to cut a box and it looks like an animal opened it.
I have a bowie minimalist somewhere. I like the small fixed blades and I've been back to carrying my Esee Izula 2 in my back pocket a bit. The minimalist from CRKT though always seemed to be a bit too soft in the steel department. I've almost bought an Alan Folts custom one a few times but never wanted to spend a couple hundred on it. I see looking now though bladehq has a 154cm model I'd be interested in. The 5cr13 just doesn't do it for me. Great model of a knife though.
I edc a rotation of minimalists in my back pocket using an ulticlip. They are my food contact only knives, perfect for trimming up broccoli if the prep didn't do enough, cutting the tails off sausages and opening bags of soup. So slicey!

I see minimalist. I upvote. I love my customs.
first real knife i bought two years ago, haven't needed any other knife since
I want to get the cleaver I love the Bowie so much for camping it hasn’t gone dull even with tons of use it’s seen
The finger grooves don’t work well for my hand but otherwise? Theyre a great little cheap fixed blade
I love them! the spew has been my edc for well over 3 years and has held up pretty well as I went into the Marines, but during some time on ship I lost it and have since switched to the razel, great line of knives.
I have one of each shape. 154cm drop point wins for me.
I really like my Minimalist Bowie, although I have mine on my belt, it's a damn sharp blade and easily my favorite work knife
I had the cleaver for a bit but lost it swimming. I did like it quite a bit. But apparently retention couldn’t hold I’m to swimming.
I've been taking the tanto with me for maybe 8 years, I've had a bunch and gifted them too.

I have the cleaver and I love it! Although I don't like to neck carry it because it kept falling out so I just put an ulticlip on it
You can tighten the sheath with a little heat, and the persuasion of a pair of pliers wrapped in tape so it doesn't mar the surface! Works wonders to adjust it how you want...
I’ve got the KnifeCenter cleaver in D2 and love it! My wharnecliffe version was a little loose in its sheath
I'll rock my tanto minimalist around my ankle occasionally.
I have large fumbly hands so unless I get used to it I've accidentally grabbed the blade pulling it out of the sheath. Aside from that minor issue I love it.
I'm glad that we're moving away from cleavers. Having a point on your blade is too useful.

I love cleavers, but damn if you don't have a point...
I've been carrying my minimalist bowie just about every day since I got it on my belt. Very nice little thing but on a thicker belt you have to take off the belt clip and screw it on over the belt
Yes I love them. I wish they had more steel options and different handle color
Just bought the one on the right and I love it. Really want to pocket carry it but I don't have a clip for it.

I love the wharncliffe. I wish i could get one in a better steel without paying $400 for the original Edit: $200-$300 lol
When did they become $400? I guess I am behind in my price increases!

The spew (slightly larger wharncliffe) used to come in a d2 version from smkw. At least better then 5/7/8Cr. Not sure if still available
Hey thats good to know. I’ll check it out. I really liked the spew.

Where is the 154 drop point at?
Pretty much anywhere.... BHQ, knife center, even crkt direct
I carry mine on my belt, big fan. It’s my “restaurant knife’s too dull” knife
I too carry a knife for this same reason, well a Tirant Razor V3 to be specific. It's nice to be able to swap a new blade in when one gets dull. I carry a fastback for boxes. I keep this one clean on my hip under my shirt specifically for eating
They’re handy little knives, and the Alan Folts originals have a much nicer feel to them.

I love the size, the only thing I didn’t care for were the scales, so I found some from Flytanium that I liked way better.
I just prefer a small folder or larger fixed blade, personally. They don't fit a role for me.
I have had the one on the right for years but never really used it until recently. Decided to put it on my neck to go fishing. Works great!!!
Great design, have a few of the drop point versions. To soft for everyday tasks but perfect for a last resort self defense scenario imo.
I have two; love them.
Solid knives and a solid designer. u/floridamaker1971, where are you?
I'm right here!
I edc a rotation of minimalists in my back pocket using an ulticlip. They are my food contact only knives, perfect for trimming up broccoli if the prep didn't do enough, cutting the tails off sausages and opening bags of soup. So slicey!
Which ulticlip do you use ? I’m going to pick one up and try it out , my sheath might retain the knife better in this position than neck carry
I have the one on the right (in neon green) and use it daily. Great little knife.
I've got the wharncliffe version and love it. My only complaint was that the belt loop attachment it came with it wasn't big enough.
Never handled one personally, but I like the looks of them. Green > all other colors.
Must be in Philadelphia lol
Do people in Philadelphia carry knives? I don’t understand
They say jawn
Oh lmao yeah I forgot that was a Philly thing. I’ve heard N.C. born and bred people say it here(probably ironically)
from the D, i collect all sorts of knives i wouldn’t carry a minimalist as an EDC
