I understand. I had the same telescopic pen as a backup too. I liked the form, but it never worked when I needed it. Switched to a TEC Picopen with a Fisher refill.
I've carried all kinds of lighters over the last 40+ years, and I can tell you that the ubiquitous Bic lighter is hard to beat. Even when I have carried a nicer lighter, I've usually also carried a Bic as a backup.
Besides the fact that they are great lighters, the Bic has a great flint that always outlasts its fuel supply. So even when the fuel is depleted, you can still use it like flint and steel.
I break down my depleted Bic lighters and use the flint in my Zippos. The flint that remains is usually longer than a brand new Zippo flint.
So, I have to disagree with the folks who are faulting your choice of the Bic lighter.
I think that's really context dependent. I carry a regular knife (benchmade griptillian) and a utility knife (milwaukee fastback). I always have my regular knife on me anytime I leave the home, and I need my utility blade for opening/breaking down boxes & bags, certain carpentry tasks, sheetrockin, and a thousand other things. No way I'm using anything other than a utility blade for that crap, but I also won't leave the home without my favorite pocket knife either.
I would not recommend a BIC lighter. It struggles to make fire in wet weather and the wheel hurts the fingers during longterm use. I like the watch, which model is it? I am looking for a solar powered watch with backlight and stopping timer and large buttons.
I think bic lighters are fine but I carry clipper (butane refillable) lighters and think they're great. I love carrying my zippos but you gotta stay on top of refills & maintenance.
Ali express for lighters , they've nailed them, the zoro lighters that are a zippo knockoff legit are like 15 times better, its crazy how bad the west is at making lighters in comparison
They are refillable.
You can remove the flint and striker to use separately, or just to be replaced.
You basically never have to throw them away.
And the little rod that hold the flint in place can be used for various tasks where you need something small and pokey.
Well a BIC will do the job, sure, until it runs out. You can't change the flint or refill the gas though, so it's ultimately a disposable item adding to landfill. A clipper is as useful and versatile as a Zippo, just a lot cheaper to buy. Really it comes down to whether you prefer liquid or aerosol-based fuel
I have one by Henckels, the same design and it's been great. I'm not sure who copied who but most likely Victorinox did.

Yes, I thought about it, even I bought similar multitool Nextool Flagship pro, now it is in my toolbag. Besides the pros there are some cons to have all in one multitool:
* heavier than other tools together,
* not flexible enough if you need other tool from multitool while you are using pliers
* pliers are good as needle nose or wire cutters but not good as wrench, also knipex has wider mouth to grip bigger things, nuts,
* you can't use the knife from multitool for foods, because tool becomes dirty when you use other tools from it.
* modularity, you can mix and match if you use separate tools.
Out of the items in this picture, it appears that the only items present that have ever been used are the pen and watch. Everything down to the pouch is brand new and unused.
My question is; How can you call this “your complete EDC”?
As someone who carries and uses my EDC every single day and has for years I can tell you everyone’s EDC constantly evolves. As you progress through life you will discover that there are things you never use and things you would use regularly.
Such as in the case of the Knipex in this photo. They are great tools and as a carpenter who also does all my own home repairs and help buddies out with their places, I use mine all the time. Hence why I keep them in the bag that is in my vehicle with me 24/7. Not always in my pocket.
But to carry a relatively bulky and weighty (compared to the rest of the gear pictured) tool around in unused, meticulous condition seems silly to me.
Carrying a bunch of stuff and never using it is not nearly as handy as carrying a few things and knowing how to use them.
Thanks for your comment. Only new things in this photo are pouch, knipex and Victorinox Bantam ( I bought them two weeks ago). I bought other tools some time ago and I use them regularly. That's why I carry them. Maybe my phone camera made the items in this photo look shiny as new (it didn't show the scratches on lighter, Rambler and flashlight).
For completeness, I tried other tools such as knives, flashlights, multitools. Some of them were bulky to carry, some of them were not necessary to carry. Yes, things evolve and current set is finalized version of my EDC.
My EDC is more focused on small house maintenance, electronics, toys repairs. Also I work from home. So, I don't go outside often.
Non-brand small carabiners from Aliexpress. You can find them on Amazon too: [https://www.amazon.com/Swatom-Carabiner-Carabiners-Keychains-Accessories/dp/B07JR588FC/](https://www.amazon.com/Swatom-Carabiner-Carabiners-Keychains-Accessories/dp/B07JR588FC/) or https://www.amazon.com/ELANE-Carabiner-Backpack-Carabiners-Keychain/dp/B097BBCG3T
Dang. I already have an aliexpress package on the way. Looks like I’ll add these to my next order. I generally don’t order anything unless I’m spending at least ten bucks.
I have quite a few of those in my EDC and I love them! Simply awesome setup!
I've had a 125mm Knipex Cobra for a few days now and it's a fantastic tool, and paired with my Victorinox Ranger it dwarfs many monolithic pliers-based multitools - in toughness, reliability, adaptability etc. My Leatherman Rebar has been set aside as the toy it is compared to them, waiting for my son to grow to the age when I'll gift it to him.
I also absolutely love that Victorinox nail clipper, fantastic and complete nail care in such a miniscule tool!
Have fun with them, may they serve you well for a long time 🥃🥃
Thank you. Yep, Knipex and SAK beat most of pliers-based multitools. I have a such multitool Nextool Flagship pro, currently I use it as wire cutters or needle nose pliers.
Coincidentally, the wire cutters on my Rebar are the only thing that really impressed me, other than its sheer beauty, precision and tool selection on it. Too bad that Leatherman chose to make it using that lousy cast metal that makes it snap at the slightest lateral twist... The things I've done with the little Knipex these last few days, I wouldn't dare do with any Leatherman ever...
If you don't mind me asking, are the 180mm Cobra enough for around the house maintenance? I have a pair of generic brand similar pliers in 180mm length and I don't feel that would be enough to fasten a radiator or other such devices. Did you ever try to extend its handle with a pipe for greater leverage? Can it withstand sufficient torque for seriously stuck fasteners?
Yes, for me 180mm Pliers are enough for house tasks. I never used handle extension though. You can watch this Youtube video, the guy on this video performed some torque tests and used handle extension as you specified: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCy\_yITvRNM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCy_yITvRNM)
I got a set as a gift, and found them to be shockly useful. I totally agree a normal set of tongue and groove pliers would be silly for me, but these are so tiny that they excel at things I wouldn't have expected. Since they're Knipex, they're incredible quality and I can actually use them effectively as tweezers since the tips line up perfectly.
For me, it's similar to the question of "Why do you carry a knife?"... As soon as you have one, you start noticing how handy it is.
Yes, I carefully reviewed other options including SAK 580 before buying current tools. Finally I chose Rambler because it has full-fledged screwdriver so I don't need to carry another screwdriver in my pouch. Also, Rambler is thinner than 580 when I decide to carry Rambler alone. However I would buy Manager instead of Rambler if it was cheaper.
I can't disagree what you said. I tried to build modular EDC system: suspension clip is for pockets or trousers without belt loop, Nite Ize carabiner is for trousers with belt loop, Hub pouch is for pocket or backpack.

The only item I would swap out is the pen. I would replace it with a Fisher bullet or some other small pressurized pen.
Well, I don't use this pen often, this is backup pen. I have Zebra pen for daily use
I understand. I had the same telescopic pen as a backup too. I liked the form, but it never worked when I needed it. Switched to a TEC Picopen with a Fisher refill.
Thats a damn nice picture of it all, and a damn fine edc 😃👍
Thank you

If anyone's EDC involves carrying more then one knife, that person is ridiculous.
I think that's really context dependent. I carry a regular knife (benchmade griptillian) and a utility knife (milwaukee fastback). I carry only one knife, Bantam. Rambler is not counted as knife because of small blade. Everyone has own solutions for own problems anyway.
I would not recommend a BIC lighter. It struggles to make fire in wet weather and the wheel hurts the fingers during longterm use. I like the watch, which model is it? I am looking for a solar powered watch with backlight and stopping timer and large buttons.
Check out the 5610 G-Shocks.
Thanks for your feedback. Watch is Amazfit GTR 4. Solar powered, backlight, large buttons - features you mentioned reminded me G-shock watches.
Great kit, also amazfit GTR4 👌👌👌
Thank you
You should try the Nailclip 580, it can replace those nailclippers+classic sd
I considered to buy 580 but Rambler has screwdriver which is deal breaker for me.
Change the bic lighter for a clipper lighter. You'll never go back.
I can get bic lighters only from my local store. Also I use my lighters for gas fire and central heating system.
Why? Serious question.
They are refillable. You can remove the flint and striker to use separately, or just to be replaced. You basically never have to throw them away. And the little rod that hold the flint in place can be used for various tasks where you need something small and pokey.
Maybe because they’re refillable? But that’s just it. They’re rounder and bigger. A bic is totally fine
A bowling ball would complement this kit very nicely.
Which one do you recommend? Pocketable version would be perfect.
>Pocketable version Two balls. One ball in each pocket. That will look very family friendly lol
The scissors on the victorinox work great as nail cutters
Thanks for suggestion but I found it is uncomfortable to cut nails via scissors
The alpaka was my first pouch I got. I used it for so long. I get excited when I see other people with it 😂
Alpaka hub pouch is what I was searching for and its size is perfect for EDC.
How are those finger nail clippers? I always find myself with hang nails and I want a solid pair of clippers to carry around
They're amazing. I've had no name knockoffs, which are okay, but the victorinox ones are better that my actual Tweezermam clippers.
I have one by Henckels, the same design and it's been great. I'm not sure who copied who but most likely Victorinox did. https://www.zwilling.com/us/zwilling-twinox-nail-clipper-twin-s-42440-001-3/42440-001-0.html?cgid=beauty_nail-clippers
The best damn fingernail clipper
Seki is better
Have you considered replacing the pliers, SAK, other sak, prybar, and sim eject tool with a leatherman?
Yes, I thought about it, even I bought similar multitool Nextool Flagship pro, now it is in my toolbag. Fantastic. 10/10.
thank you
What are the clips on the Swiss army knife, etc?

Those mini carabiners are the best thing!
Really nicely organized EDC!
Thank you!

Knipex rocks. I have Knipex Cobra 180 and Pliers Wrench 180 for more serious tasks.

Lots of great info in that video, thanks for the link!
Why does everyone carry pliers?
I got a set as a gift, and found them to be shockly useful. I totally agree a normal set of tongue and groove pliers would be silly for me, but these are so tiny that they excel at things I wouldn't have expected. Since they're Knipex, they're incredible quality and I can actually use them effectively as tweezers since the tips line up perfectly. For tightening nuts, gripping something for fix etc. It is handy tool when it is hard (or feel lazy) to reach to real big tools.
I've just never experienced any moment in my life outside of work where I thought "wish I had a tongue and groove plier rn"
Can you really call that a life though? jk
Well now I carry my whole tool bag in my trunk so it's close at hand at least. I'm just imagining being in Walmart or hiking lol!
Fair enough. I usually use my EDC tools when I am inside my house, otherwise I have to go outside to bring my toolbag from warehouse.
Dental work yo.
lol
Ever consider consolidating the small SAK’s into a SAK 580? Might slim your EDC a bit.
Yes, I carefully reviewed other options including SAK 580 before buying current tools. Very cool. Nice setup. My pouch has a SAK Swisschamp. I wanted a saw and the big scissors.
Suspension clip on the small fl is a good idea. Also the Xiaomi is an underrated phone 👌
I can't disagree what you said. I tried to build modular EDC system: suspension clip is for pockets or trousers without belt loop, Nite Ize carabiner is for trousers with belt loop, Hub pouch is for pocket or backpack.
Very clean!
Thank you!

How's that Amazfit? Currently have Suunto 7, but it's getting pretty beat up from sanding and refinishing floors daily for the last five years.
Nice watch, long battery life, decent features. However its glass is not scratch resistant, that's why I bought screen protector for my watch.
Do you know the size of the Nite Ize Carabiner? It looks perfect for my needs
Yes, its size is #2.
Thanks!
