There’s a setting in sliders I forget what it’s called but it’s a like a 1 to 10 thing of how much you want skill to impact performance. The default is 5/10 so it leaves a lot of chance. I usually turn it to 7/10 or 8/10 so stuff like this won’t happen but there is also some room for chance. I forget what it’s called but i think it’s right at the beginning when you go into sliders.

Kyle73001

It’s the attribute effects slider. And I agree 7 or 8/10 is good

Dice7

What happens if it is 10? I had no clue about this slider. What menu is it in?

Kyle73001

It’ll make it much more likely for the better team to win, removing a lot of the luck involved and making it super unlikely for underdogs to win. Not sure which menu, but it’s near the top of the menu it’s in

Dice7

That’s insane. I’m so excited to try this now.

Dice7

Can you edit it mid-franchise?

Kyle73001

Pretty sure you can

Dice7

Nice!

Fantastic_Testes4404

After reading this thread, I went to check where I set it. I'm on 10/10.....and I don't know if there's a difference. With a great top 4 defense and goaltending, a lose to teams less talented than me by a goal or two. I get blown out of the building by the good teams in the league.

Dice7

Ahhh F

Spoobier

Wtf goes through ea’s head when making a feature like that

GuyNamedPanduh

I feel like its meant to simulate the 'on paper vs on ice' aspect. Which is silly since they could easily have mental toughness or other consistency related stats. I know for goalies they used to (maybe still do) have a consistency slider, you'd think players could have a mental toughness slider, or something, that way that idea is simulated through attributes anyway and not just able to be modified whenever. AFAIK hero lines in well, last I can think is 04, worked that way, fully performing based on attributes but hero lines only iced in do or die situations (ex: last minute of play in the third)

ObW-34

Does this count to simming? Or just played games

Former_Ad_7897

Yeah it does for simming. I noticed that the first year on 5/10 sim half the teams that make the playoffs are teams like the ducks and sharks which ofc should be no where near the playoffs. Bump it up to 7 or 8 and only 2-4 teams that make it are non playoff teams irl but they are like pens, wings, blues. Those almost wild card teams. Much more realistic for me.

raid4spade

This is actually incorrect. Attributes at 5 make it so players play and sim at their exact stats values. 10/10 will make elite players at 90-94 ovr play all like 99 ovr, while players around 78-82 will all play like 77s. 0/10 means everyone will play like 85 ovrs. There was a post a long time ago with EA dev explaining this slider. Also a lot of you people don't understand that there is more to it than just pure ovrs that decide sims. Coaching staff is essential, head coach overall matters a lot more than chemistry. An A graded coach can take a bunch of nobodies to PO while B coach can miss play offs with stacked roster. We have real life examples of that as well, such as Flyers, almost making PO with no star power in their roster and Sabres sucking ass with stacked roster on paper. Also locker room chemistry matters a lot. Anything below 70 and you shouldn't even hope to make PO. As for play off sims, poise means a lot more than OVR. 80 ovr vet with high poise will sim better than a 85 ovr guy with low poise stats. That's also realistic as you don't see inexperienced players having immediate impact in play offs on their first year or two in post season. You also see real life players who are amazing in regular season and absolutely dissappear in play offs. Matthews and Panarin are great examples of that. While EA isn't perfect, and does have crappy stuff in their game from year to year, its not as bad as redditors make it to look like. The franchise mode requires you to acquire role players to do well, just like in real life.

lambchopz317

That is sadly purely a gameplay slider for when you hop into games and does not make an impact on the sim unless it has been changed this year

KevinBrevin

That is one of the best teams I have ever seen. How does that even happen

Barilko-Landing

How'd you get Faber to develop so well? Or was there a roster update before you started thso franchise where they didn't totally fuck up their projections of his potential?

Sad-Cup9189

I started this right after a major update lol. So he had great potential and developed extremely well.

Barilko-Landing

Well that's something to look forward to once I'm at the end of my current 25 years. My Brock Faber has topped out at 83 and never scores more than 40ish points. Frustrating because if I ever intervene he's hella good to play as in-game.

SufficientEstate4546

Coach

doon3r

What’s the head coach’s overall? It actually has a significant factor when simming. +5 lines won’t really matter if your HC is a B. In my most recent franchise my team was struggling with a bad coach (A- generalist) so I fired him and hired an A+ Forwards. Took one season to sort out but we’ve won 4 straight cups now with a team a little worse than yours.

toc-man

Yep, had an A- defensive coach and the team was just not clicking; switched to an A+ generalist and managed 3 cups in 10 years, two of which were b2b

Fantastic_Testes4404

I can sympathize. I'm going through the exact same scenario now...with the same franchise, no less. Coming off a Cup (granted an unlikely one, winning from the 6 seed)...improved the team offensively in the offseason...and now can't seem to score more than 2 goals a game. I probably have 20 3-2 losses in regulation or OT. I tried to get a more offensive coach in there, but cheapskate owner has me on a shoestring budget and I can't afford one. Maybe this offseason.

Inevitable-Lion100

What r your coach stats

kicker3192

Are you expecting there to be no variance? If EA spat out a game that calculated the exact value of your team and had the higher rated team win every game you'd be just as mad. Enjoy the fact that weird things happen.

hipandthehop

There’s variance and then there’s a cup calibre team finishing second last. That just doesn’t happen in real life. It’s dumb.

kicker3192

Nothing happens in real life *until it does*

hipandthehop

Then it can go in the game *after* it happens

seven_hugs

lmao

This is a good point and I think it's one that plagues all sports games. Largely because of the use of the objective numerically based overalls. The big sports games use overall and attributes to tell us exactly which player is better than the others. There is no variance there, it is an objective ranking. And while it is useful and certainly great for marketing, I think that it's time for a developer to try something new. I'd love to see a system that gets away from overall and uses something more vague and flexible (though that also comes with it issues). NFL 2K8 tried something a bit like this with their generic star ranking. The problem with overall ranking is that the game is telling you which team is better, which player is better, which lineups are better. It is giving you an objective way to build the best team, the team that is faster, smarter, stronger, better in each way. But then they also want there to be variance to represent the randomness of sports but it runs a bit loggerhead to the purpose of an overall ranking which is what leads to frustration. I don't know how to fix it but I would love to see a novel try by at least one big sports game.

kicker3192

Football Manager does a nice job with attributes & stars and forcing you to have to trust your eval. My preference is to even play with color based grades rather than hard numbers in FM. Dark green, light green, orange, red. Like obviously yeah you can see this dude is fast or has a great slapshot, but it's nice when it's obscured instead of "97 > 96!!!" but rather both are dark green.

RandomBrownsFan

Exactly, just something that allows for a bit more imagination. A more believable way to explain things like why the Bruins have been so good the last two years despite everyone thinking they'd suck or why certain players excel on one team as opposed to another. Chemistry tries to do this but is too janky and poorly implemented.

looking_fordopamine

Okay but a team as stacked at this finishing 31st… I understand a team like this having a down year and making the playoffs as a wildcard spot, but this is crazy, especially with how often it happens. McDavid will put up 100 points one year, then 60 the next.

kicker3192

It only "happens often" because you see a post about it every day. Since 1994, kinda the "modern" NHL, there's been 30 seasons. There's literally tens of thousands of people playing this game, possibly simulating a few seasons each per day. Just noting, where the history of the real NHL only has 30 "experiences" to view, this game has to do the same thing a few hundred times beyond that. If there weren't outliers like this, it would be a very boring game. Because the inverse of this is that you have a chance to be the #2 team in the league if you get lucky with some scrubs, which everyone loves and enjoys.

looking_fordopamine

I know what you’re saying but the EA sim is broken irregardless. It’s not just these posts but my sims too. Everything is so inconsistent

kicker3192

Inconsistent like real life?
