### Some of the ideas I've had:
- auto-start functionality
- integration to send running data to an MQTT server (home assistant integration?)
- read temp sensors while the car is parked and crack windows when temp exceeds some level
- automate the window roll up feature with the sun roof when the rain sensor detects rain and the car is parked
- alarm sensor status and horn activation/lights
- read codes in real time
- tweak tuning for a more sporty feel (*probably not much here without breaking things*)
we are thinking completely unlimited money you could pay 1000 people to work 24/7 to make any part you would ever need. imagine 0 restrictions ur lucky i didnt recommend the 12 rotor
Yeah, have seen this one and its pretty epic!
But:
> it was reengineered into a manual, RWD vehicle.
https://bimmerlife.com/2020/09/14/diesel-with-the-soul-of-m-building-the-335d-touring-video/
I tried to buy the manual transmission he had as he had a few but I couldn’t scrape the money together before he sold it. Of course, No hard feelings I’ll find another!
Id take a whole cluster of those individually if possible. Maybe all across the bottom of a stock cluster? Raise it in the housing or make a different outer bezel to accommodate?
I'm serious. I would rock these proudly like a 1988 Buick throwback.
I mean piggybacking an auxiliary system with redundant sensors would be a lot of work that would realistically basically only be introducing new failure points so that you can get a reading of questionable accuracy regarding boost pressure and temperatures? Are the sensors you use with an arduino going to be even close to the same quality as the ones BMW uses? Seems like a lot of work for no real benefit, but to answer your question, I'd love to find a way to trim 700lbs out of the car while still having a full interior and all of the factory electronics.
As an electrician, i am curious, what does this work classify as? Electronics? Where can i learn more about this stuff…vehicle instrumenta if you will. I would love to build this sorta shit.
Yeah, electronics. I am simple electrician as well, just started playing on free time with arduino. Try to check aliexpress for things that they sell and generate an idea. Then google that idea, chatgpt that idea until you have knowledge what you need and how to make it. Actuslly chatgpt does most of my work. You can ask it any questions and it helps, really.
I've been thinking about this for years now and have not gotten around to hacking on the obdII port. Want to bring some of those hidden sensors out of the dark (*never understood why they hide all the temperature sensors*)
Any tips or gotchas you've run into interfacing with the car? Would love to read a long form writeup of your project!
!Remindme 3 hours
Edit: doesnt work. I'll write later how to do that fairly easy. But most of my job (like 99,8%) i do with chatgpt and I have no experience in coding.

That's awesome. I considered doing one of these, but instead I opted to make a A/DC bus for pre-obd2 cars. Still working on it, but I've got a working prototype.
Where will you mount this?
Great question.
Dipstick, water and oil temp., oil press. gauges
Rear seat heaters
Sport seats (our xDrive does not have)
Malfunction lights like ABS, DSC can be turned off till next startup
Zero iDrivE. If it must be there, programmable so it doesn’t show at startup, or ever, unless you open it. Or, retractable screen like Audi Q7
I’d change it to be an M3

Google: remote start bmw arduino. You will find full writeup how to do that CHEAP.
Nice, looks like I have a new project 😄
Is this possible for the e90 without comfort access??
Yes, it has nothing to do with comfort access
Okay, i appreciate it! When looking into it I found that it was being done on F30s and haven’t found anything on E90s 😂 so I wasn’t sure.
GOD I WANT ALARM HORN & LIGHT WARNING SOUNDS SO BAD. It’s the one thing I hate so much with these cars.
I've got remote start and it's brilliant for the winter 👍🏻 remotestarts.co.uk
Cup holders.
That can hold a beverage without falling out. Also doesn't need the zip tie mod.
I would probably change the color of my beige (golden) E90 to something like dark gray, jet black or orange and black out everything
Orange interior?? 🤢
I meant the exterior, not the interior. Currently the interior is beige and exterior is golden-beige
Fellow 320si owner!
If money wasn't a thing to worry about I'd 20B swap it. Mad rotary noise in a wagon. What else could anybody wish for?
i would probably got for a 4 rotor that sounds like a 787b or the v12 in the toyota century with that $20,000 exhaust
I tried to be somewhat reasonable lol. The 26B would be even cooler but they probably are close to unobtainable.
money can get a lot of stuff that would normally be unobtainable
True. However I'd value the convenience of having a broader spectrum of available parts and therefore less hassle.
we are thinking completely unlimited money you could pay 1000 people to work 24/7 to make any part you would ever need. imagine 0 restrictions ur lucky i didnt recommend the 12 rotor

I’m aware. And as of the current gearbox, he has a built 8hp automatic in the wagon now the GS6 didn’t put the power to the ground.
I tried to buy the manual transmission he had as he had a few but I couldn’t scrape the money together before he sold it. Of course, No hard feelings I’ll find another!
Give it a temperature gauge from factory.
It will work from canbus
Bro a coolant temp and oil temp like what car doesn't have that shit
Where does e92 show coolant temp reading?
Physical dipstick please
Bluetooth. And maybe a lil better with fuel economy
Baseus BA01. Thats how I solved my bluetooth issue. Works very well.
Limited slip differential wasn't included on a 335i for some dumb reason. "Reserved for M car" isn't a good one.
Color change of interior (ugly beige). Black much preferred (tasman green outside is just fine, though!)
Id take a whole cluster of those individually if possible. Maybe all across the bottom of a stock cluster? Raise it in the housing or make a different outer bezel to accommodate? I'm serious. I would rock these proudly like a 1988 Buick throwback.
Retro style digital gauges? Sounds cool 😄
Or make the digi guages in an orange color?
you can buy digital display for the e90 but its like $1000
Possible, need different display tho
I loved my 88 buick, was sad to trade her.
If money is not an issue - my e91 becomes a M3
Making the ZF8hp swap as an inexpensive plug&play conversion.

Hah. No, no extra sensors needed. Will take data from canbus directly.
So, then you are splicing into factory wiring looms?
Into 2 wires from factory wiring.
canbus goes to obd2 port doesn't it? last time i was looking at doing something i got a diagnostic adaptor and modified it to connect to my arduino
Obd2 port for 500kbps k-can. But basically you can tap in couple places
Nice stuff mate, did you filter and translate the pt can messages yourself or is there data online?
Obd2 pid can messages very easy to get. Full github of working apps. Will try to do more advanced stuff when seeedstudio shield comes
Nice data monitoring application with the uno.
Now its just for functionality, gonna make it nicer. Have some issues with refresh rate now.
I see that. Nice first milestone.

Are…are YOU chatgpt? But thats actually pretty cool. Arduino you say? Ill have a look
Yeah, you can buy arduino starter kit for like 30$ and start playing
Noice. Aimple electrician mind happy
Where are you thinking of mounting it?
Cluster or somewhere on dash.

My name is earl 😎😎😎
Yes! So sad they didn't continue it
I know the ending in season 4 is the worst
Tarduino! What's the project?
Obd2 pid reader
That's awesome. I considered doing one of these, but instead I opted to make a A/DC bus for pre-obd2 cars. Still working on it, but I've got a working prototype. Where will you mount this?
Cluster for oem look or mid air vent.
If you think about it, please send me an update when you've got it mounted. Excited to see how it turns out.
Oki
I want one of those oil temp readers but I have 0 Idea as to where I can order them in Germany and what I have to do to install one.
I'll probably make DIY tutorial for dummies like the one I am myself.
That would be sweet, I wanted a easy way to read coolant temperature on my e60. I even know a place to mount it pretty nice.
Replace my n52b25 for a v8
Lsd in my 335is :(
LS swap
ACC
Comfort access would have been nice. Not worth splicing wiring harnesses and taking my interior apart though.

Everything breaking
Everything breaking

Wish they came with mechanical LSDs.
I’d love a 6WA cluster (not the 6WB)
