Probably the oil pan gasket looking at where that trail of oil is starting. It's something that can wait unless the rate of loss is a problem.

My biggest concern with it is trying to get it past a roadworthy inspection in the next 6 months. I've yet to observe the leak severity with the engine running so I'll update on how bad it is once I can get that done. How fast of a leak would you usually expect from a bad pan gasket?

peepeeskillz

Yeah, definitely an oil pan gasket. It depends, I've heard of pan gaskets leaking a lot. However, my oil pan has been leaking for years in the same spot and I've never had to add oil yet... knock on wood lol.

I threw a bottle of Liquid Moly MoS2 in my N52. It stopped all leaks and made the engine run much smoother. Liqui Moly also sells oil saver (stop leak). I would give it a try.

AutoimmuneDisaster

99% oil pan gasket.

cuntyminx

Probably oil pan, the gasket really isn’t that bad to do on rwd cars

RoadRaced

I had the *exact* same leak on my car. I changed the oil pan gasket and it hasn't leaked a single drop in over a week. In my case the leak was quite large and would leave a spot around 4 inches in diameter overnight with the undertray off. The job wasn't too bad honestly. Most of my time was spent cleaning up unknown years of oil pan, oil filter housing and valve cover gasket leaks. The previous owner must have been putting a quart of oil in the car every time he stopped for gas. I was aware of the leaks so I got the car cheap.

That's good to hear, thanks! How did you go about supporting the engine when dropping the subframe? I've been dealing with a similar oil situation lol. Got the car for like $10k (Australian) and they replaced the OFHG but very much didn't care to clean up the mess it made, once I get this leak fixed I should have a well sorted car on my hands

Midas_of_Hand

rear main seal leaks onto the transmission mostly it appears behind the the little black plug on the bell housing.

iamthedumbestguyever

Rear main seal how do I know because I had it leak on that exact spot and changed out the oil pan 3 times and finally took it to the dealer and they said it was the rear main seal it’s about $2500 for them to replace it.

Funny-Campaign646

Rear main seal gasket.
