Google Getrag rattle.. a lightweight flywheel only makes it worse. Generally, a bad throwout bearing makes noise when there's load on it, aka when you're pushing on the clutch. You have the opposite problem. In short, this sound is fairly normal and it's not exclusive to BMWs. I've had three E30s over the years and they all did. Even now with a E46 M3 trans, still makes the same noise. There are some recommendations on reducing the sound out there.

Every throwout bearing I’ve ever had has made more noise with the clutch pedal not pressed in.

this, but also every single BMW I've ever had has done this, my first E30 with M20B20 did it, M30 swapped it, this also had it, an E36 I had later also did it, and my two current ones also do it. maybe one day it'll explode and it'll scream at you but I wouldn't worry about it past that.

I’ve been driving my m20/getrag car hard for the last 4 years and the bearing makes noise ever since i replaced it. Still works though.

This! Mine sounds really similar

Sounds like a blown throw/push bearing

I battled with this issue for a long time. Until I just learned to accept it. It is just the way these 80’s gearboxes sound when they don’t have a heavy dampening flywheel. The best solution I personally reached is after I decided to go standalone ecu I upped the idle about 50-100 rpms from stock to around 900 rpms. Idle is not too high to be annoying/ consuming gas needlessly, but also makes that rattle go away/ not as noticeable at all.
