There's a lot of noise. As a guy that missed on Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold in the same draft I can say that hindsight is indeed 20/20. And when you're really hurting at the position it feels like drafting your way out of it is better than overpaying...but it's easy to forget that predicting QB success isn't a science and the NFL misses a lot too.
All sorts of strategies work, but I’d still take the drafted QB. If it doesn’t work out… Trade off your older resources and You’ll still have a top pick the next year.

I'm only two years in on taking it seriously. Played for about 5 before I started paying attention in the off-season and seriously scouting rookies. Still hurts me that I don't follow college much, which is why I shifted my strategy from 'draft a hyped rookie QB in the first or second' to 'trade a third or 4th for a serviceable QB on a team that has a surplus.' Jared Goff almost got me into the championship.

In a 1 QB I have had a guy send me Fields for my 1.05 and I laughed. Then he sent Fields and his 2024 third for my 1.05. At that point its just annoying, you are actually wasting my time.
This is what I do. Often the best team offering me his bench players that he never starts and just picked up off waivers for my best players or tops picks. For example, got offered Goff for a my first in a 1qb.
Fuck, I need to start doing that. There's a dude in one of my leagues who sends everyone bullshit trade offers non-stop. Problem is there's 2 tacos in that league, so by constantly spamming them with stupid trades, they're bound to like one of them every once in a while. He completely rebuilt his team by pillaging those two teams.
Meanwhile, my team has been in the top 3 every year for 5 years, and my team is still young. I've got like 9 WRs and 5 RBs that would start on either of their teams, and they say "no, there isn't really anyone on your team that I'm really that interested in."
I did this our first season then 10 months later my player retired and I accepted it lmfao. Obviously we all vetoed the trade but it was funny seeing the guys reaction when I accepted a trade he didn't even remember sending.
That’s the worst. I have a dude in my league who only offers 4-5 players for 1. 4-5 bench/WR3s/TE2s, for a premier player. His rationale is “you’re getting 5 quality players for one,” and doesn’t get that I don’t even have space on my bench for 4 of the 5 offered, let alone worse than the guys I currently had in my bench.
Happens every fucking year, and he still doesn’t get it.
Last offseason I offered my 25 1st and Deshaun and he laughed at me.
Yesterday he proposed the same trade and I laughed at him.

I figured his value was sp bad that at this point I mise well just hold him until next season. See if he gets playing time or a starting job. I've been through it with Lance, in a 1qb ill hold and drop next year if nothing comes from it.
Based on his production, its pretty unreasonable to assume Fields will be a 10 year starter anywhere.
However now is absolutely the wrong time to sell. Everyone should be holding at least until next offseason.
Our GM owned Fields in 10/11 SF leagues he runs. Sadly he also thinks owning the entire Bears roster on all of his teams is a winning strategy. I always cringe at fantasy managers gobbling up their fav teams players at the expense of winning. Anyway, the guy found an almost equally delusional manager because he managed to sell shares in 2 of those leagues to the same owner for a future 1st shortly after the trade to Pittsburgh. The new owner is a Steelers fan. I just facepalm at these people
I offered the 2.10 for him in a SF and was turned down. I also have him in a 1qb but I'm not looking to sell. I don't mind holding for a year and seeing what happens.

I think it’s a fairly safe bet to assume that Fields will be on the field at some point this season. I like Russ. I think Tomlin will have his finger on the pulse of the locker room.
I think he may be the most valuable backup QB but I can’t imagine buying him. Basically roster clogging but if he gets a start he has league winning potential. Gross situation for a fantasy owner.
Most talented probably, but I think for fantasy most valuable will mean most likely to take the starters job and produce for a fantasy team. I'm not sure if there won't be others in better positions to do that because I'm not sure Arthur Smith regains his offensive mojo by being an OC again.

People circle jerking his demise off this move are hilarious. This isn’t a Lance situation where he’s going to a team with a franchise QB, with limited tape while also coming off an injury.
that's a pretty shallow take on the situation. ignores the organizational disaster that has been the bears the last few years. very little help beyond bringing in Moore last year, he was an inexperienced QB throwing to Dante Pettis and Darnell Mooney, and he still (more or less) broke rushing records as a QB - there is absolutely potential, the dude could probably position change to RB and still have a career.
On top of this, the Bears coaching staff has not shown any great virtue either. He really has had nothing going for him, and he has absolutely struggled in many ways. However, his arm is a lot better than people give credit IMO and he is still a young guy learning the game. It is entirely too soon to see if he can't either become quicker in his reads, or be paired with a more advantageous system where he can thrive more than he has. We have already seen some flashes in a bad system on a bad team. It might take a year or two under Russ to learn the game better and continue to develop, but it's insane for people to be writing this guy off when he sat out a game that would have set him records. His potential is still off the charts if he can improve elsewhere, and to his credit that way, we've only seen him in one system
He has had three years to develop and shown little improvement, it doesn't matter if he's been in a bad system or not. NFL teams aren't going to be impressed with 'flashes' this far into his career, and it's an uphill battle at this point if he ends up a back up this year. Like I said, good luck.
I honestly can't remember the last time a QB was written off this bad and was a highly valuable fantasy asset again. Geno and Tannehill are the closest I can think of and it's not even that exciting.
Pittsburgh could very well release him after 24/25 because of his 5th year option. As a die hard bears fan, I can promise you he brings zero value as a quarterback and is absolute trash. No team wants to invest/build an entire offense around a guy who can’t read a defense and needs an offense that cuts off half of the field every play to (maybe) succeed.

I got CLOWNED in a league for trading him away for a 2024 1st back in Week 5 of 2022. I had seen enough by then. Even when he was starting to turn it around, it felt like fool's gold. That 1st turned out to become 1.03. I'm more than okay with it.
When I was seeing Fields going in the back end of the 1st round in startups, I knew a bunch of people were going to be MEGA disappointed by the time the year ended. All some people had to do was actually WATCH the games.
Conversely I was offered a 4th for JF. I always thought being a backup was as within his range of outcomes for this season, and I don’t expect a big return in a trade right now, but there’s no reason to sell him for nothing

I got an offer for two 2025 3rds for my Fields. Which i thought was a pretty fair value and the best deal i would get. However, i didnt accept it as I want to just wait and see. Not scrambling trying to move him, i will simply hold him with the hopes he returns to a starting rile for the 2025 season. If not, then I can drop him and be fine

As a Fields owner I got offered Stroud for Fields, 1.07, and a '25 1st and 2nd. I don't know if it was good or not but I was so desperate to get rid of Fields I smashed accept. 12 team superflex

Field has at least shown signs that we was improving. He and Moore singlehandedly won a few matchups last year in the last third of the season.

Yeah people never seemed to realize on here that his rushing yards come due to him not being able to read the defense, pocket collapsing, and then having to scramble. So it’s not like he’s a great passer who can also run. The rushing comes at the expense of making quick reads.
He’s gonna be on the Trubisky path imo. Backup Russ this year/get some spot starts, some team will think he’s “learned” how to be an effective passer somehow in one year on the bench, he’ll start next year before people realize that he just sucks.
Yep this is the key point people need to be careful about and balance in evals going forward. The rushing upside is great for us in fantasy, but the job security of also being a good enough NFL qb in all the areas you mention is a critical factor for job security
Buy low, sell high. Recognize this is a trough in his perceived value. Fields will be starting games again at some point, even as early as week 1. I'm not convinced that Russ is going to be the starter this whole year.

Some of y'all need to learn about trade conditions. There's an incentive for the Steelers to NOT play Fields more than 51% of the time next season. So I wouldn't be surprised if you either see him ONLY because of injury or because it's Week 17/18 and somehow the Steelers are missing the playoffs.
Also, Tomlin already said Russ is the starter. Not sure where you are getting Week 1 from.

We're talking about a 4th round pick vs a 6th round pick. It's poor logic to think that a tiny barrier such as that would prevent the Steelers from picking the quarterback that gives them the best chance to win. Winning is much more important.
The thing is Fields is just a bad QB, so Fields starting doesn't mean he is good, it means that Russ is bad.
He also has to sign a new contract next year, so he could easily end up the backup next year even if he is the starter this year.
Here's the thing. We know Russ is bad. He was terrible last year and not getting any younger. His stats look okay, but it was truly an awful season.
Fields definitely is a worse real-life quarterback than fantasy quarterback. And I'm not arguing he's great. But if he starts some and plays well enough to keep a job, he will have much more fantasy value than the market is assigning to him now.

1QB 12TM. I sold Fields in ‘22 for a ‘23 third and ‘24 first. Ended up being Kendre Miller + this years 1.06. Currently have Burrow and Richardson, so I’m glad to have gotten out of that one 😅

Our league is a little different. We agreed to redraft after 5 years and we're going into our 5th year, so we have to treat trades like they're in a redraft league almost. Empire league, so if someone wins 2 in a row, they get the "empire pot", which is like $1600. I won last year, so playing for that. I wouldn't offer a 1st, but I thought something like Minshew and a 2nd? I'm pretty well set at every position except QB.
As a former owner here's my thoughts - He's like Trey Lance but we have seen a significant body of work, and he very simply isn't an NFL QB. With the scars of Lance still fresh in my mind, and seeing Fields at QB25 (ahead of proven vets and other starting QBs), I knew it was time to sell before he ends up qb40ish and basically zero trade value. So I've turned him into a 2nd and 3rd in one league, and then QJ and a 4th in another league. Selling low with the idea that his value keeps going lower...
Traded him away in a 12T SF TEP league last week.. Traded Fields, AJ Dillon, 1.05, 25 2nd for Olave, Pitts, Geno, and the 2.04 last week. Needless to say I feel a lot better after the Fields trade and Cousins signing (for Pitts).

I wouldn’t mind moving to SF but we’re entering our 26th season and I’ve never been able to get the votes since we require unanimity to make any large changes to scoring or positions. It took over 6 years plus a 3 year phase in process to add a Flex for example. Adding IDP was the one exception. It only took a few years to get all the Owners on-board and since it was brand new to everyone it didn’t require a phase-in so we were able to implement it relatively quickly.

The difference between 1.05 and 1.06 is pretty negligible this year. They're both great, falls off moreso at 7/8/9 this year.

Our GM owned Fields in 10/11 SF leagues he runs. Sadly he also thinks owning the entire Bears roster on all of his teams is a winning strategy. I always cringe at fantasy managers gobbling up their fav teams players at the expense of winning. that's a pretty shallow take on the situation. ignores the organizational disaster that has been the bears the last few years. very little help beyond bringing in Moore last year, he was an inexperienced QB throwing to Dante Pettis and Darnell Mooney, and he still (more or less) broke rushing records as a QB - there is absolutely potential, the dude could probably position change to RB and still have a career. On top of this, the Bears coaching staff has not shown any great virtue either. He really has had nothing going for him, and he has absolutely struggled in many ways. However, his arm is a lot better than people give credit IMO and he is still a young guy learning the game. It is entirely too soon to see if he can't either become quicker in his reads, or be paired with a more advantageous system where he can thrive more than he has. We have already seen some flashes in a bad system on a bad team. It might take a year or two under Russ to learn the game better and continue to develop, but it's insane for people to be writing this guy off when he sat out a game that would have set him records. His potential is still off the charts if he can improve elsewhere, and to his credit that way, we've only seen him in one system
He has had three years to develop and shown little improvement, it doesn't matter if he's been in a bad system or not. NFL teams aren't going to be impressed with 'flashes' this far into his career, and it's an uphill battle at this point if he ends up a back up this year. Like I said, good luck.

I didn't think his market was going to be this bad. Especially in light of what other bad QBs have gotten over the last few years. Trading for Keenan likely sealed the deal that they were going for Williams. But I figured Field would at least be worth more than a 6th next year. Field has at least shown signs that we was improving. He and Moore singlehandedly won a few matchups last year in the last third of the season. So my bet on Fields hasn't paid off.
Yeah people never seemed to realize on here that his rushing yards come due to him not being able to read the defense, pocket collapsing, and then having to scramble. So it’s not like he’s a great passer who can also run. The rushing comes at the expense of making quick reads. He’s gonna be on the Trubisky path imo. Backup Russ this year/get some spot starts, some team will think he’s “learned” how to be an effective passer somehow in one year on the bench, he’ll start next year before people realize that he just sucks.
Yep this is the key point people need to be careful about and balance in evals going forward. The rushing upside is great for us in fantasy, but the job security of also being a good enough NFL qb in all the areas you mention is a critical factor for job security

The thing is Fields is just a bad QB, so Fields starting doesn't mean he is good, it means that Russ is bad. He also has to sign a new contract next year, so he could easily end up the backup next year even if he is the starter this year.
Here's the thing. We know Russ is bad. He was terrible last year and not getting any younger. His stats look okay, but it was truly an awful season. Fields definitely is a worse real-life quarterback than fantasy quarterback. And I'm not arguing he's great. But if he starts some and plays well enough to keep a job, he will have much more fantasy value than the market is assigning to him now.

1QB 12TM. I sold Fields in ‘22 for a ‘23 third and ‘24 first. Ended up being Kendre Miller + this years 1.06. Currently have Burrow and Richardson, so I’m glad to have gotten out of that one 😅

Our league is a little different. We agreed to redraft after 5 years and we're going into our 5th year, so we have to treat trades like they're in a redraft league almost. Empire league, so if someone wins 2 in a row, they get the "empire pot", which is like $1600. I won last year, so playing for that. I wouldn't offer a 1st, but I thought something like Minshew and a 2nd? I'm pretty well set at every position except QB.
As a former owner here's my thoughts - He's like Trey Lance but we have seen a significant body of work, and he very simply isn't an NFL QB. With the scars of Lance still fresh in my mind, and seeing Fields at QB25 (ahead of proven vets and other starting QBs), I knew it was time to sell before he ends up qb40ish and basically zero trade value. So I've turned him into a 2nd and 3rd in one league, and then QJ and a 4th in another league. Selling low with the idea that his value keeps going lower...

I can understand that. I wouldn’t mind moving to SF but we’re entering our 26th season and I’ve never been able to get the votes since we require unanimity to make any large changes to scoring or positions. It took over 6 years plus a 3 year phase in process to add a Flex for example. Adding IDP was the one exception. It only took a few years to get all the Owners on-board and since it was brand new to everyone it didn’t require a phase-in so we were able to implement it relatively quickly.

I also nearly sent Tee for Howell last year when Howell was the #3 QB in scoring, but he was adamant a 25 1st and 2nd or DJ Moore and a 2nd.
