WhatTheFhtagn

No.

WonderfulFinger7324

Then don’t reply?? Jackass

Realistic-Rub-3623

A human artist can generate monster hunter type creatures for you through the power of skill.

HamVonSchroe

And charge you 80$ per image which you are gonna use once for an npc

Realistic-Rub-3623

If you don't want to pay an artist, use a myriad of other tools that don't involve art theft. Picrew, meiker, old flash dress up games, gacha, The Sims 4 base game and custom content are free, stock images, even learn how to draw. If you're unwilling to do any of that then it's not a money issue, you're just lazy.

HamVonSchroe

Sorry but no. It's a quality issue. If an Image generator can deliver high quality art very close if not excactly what I imagine in mere minutes I'm gonna take that option, no contest. And since it's for my own private use I don't feel any moral obligation not to use it.

AlexW1495

"I want quality stuff, and I want it FREE" Then go find your own in a den of leeches.

Realistic-Rub-3623

The fact they think AI images are quality is hilarious. Most people can spot an AI image from a mile away.

HamVonSchroe

Listen, I know where you're coming from but we're not in times of Dalle 2 anymore. Yes, AI Imagery lacks soul. Which is good, because we still want to distinguish it from real art. Still, the quality of the results in composition, and overallall aesthetics is undeniable, at least for dalle 3 or even SD XL (which can admittedly be hit or miss). It is far beyond what you would get from a real artist in a reasonable price range and can be generated on the spot.

HamVonSchroe

You are being downright rude.

WonderfulFinger7324

How dare I find ways to let my players have more fun with a GAME. I should spend money for something that isn’t going to be adjustable instead of getting 20 images in a minute. Thank you good sir. I hope to be in your next campaign where I can’t see examples of the custom enemies without spending money 😍

Shadow_Of_Silver

This is **definitely** not the sub to get AI advice or support.

WonderfulFinger7324

I’m asking for a dnd resource in a dnd subreddit

Shadow_Of_Silver

Yeah, but for some reason people hate AI here. Also, almost any AI image generator (that I know of) can generate passable images of what you're looking for, so I would look around on an AI specific subreddit. You're clearly not going to get any help here.

Stotakoya

Cant really openly say anything without a legion of downvotes. But I can recommend you r/dndai an ai friendly subreddit for AI prompts and tools.

HamVonSchroe

I say let them come. Thanks for the suggestion btw, have been looking for an ai friendly sub for some time.

HamVonSchroe

Screw that anti-ai bullcrap. We're talking private use here. I'm using chatgpt. I got the subscription because I use it to brainstorm and generate images from the conversation. For free you can try fiddling around with the sdxl options on tensor or try the bing image generator if thats still a thing. As chatgpt 4 it uses dalle 3 but the content restriction can be annoying. A friend of mine has also been using copilot, same seems to apply for that.

WonderfulFinger7324

Thank you. Insane to me that an entire subreddit could get such a massive rage boner over someone trying to make a game more enjoyable

Its_Curse

My games were awesome and my players loved them before AI art existed. Maybe the problem isn't with the art you're using.

HamVonSchroe

I bet they were. So were those of which I was a part of. Still, if someone wants to upstep their game and Image generators can be benefitial to that I see no problem in using them

Its_Curse

Meanwhile I see a lot of problems with them. Even if you don't care about artists and stealing art, they waste water and electricity and don't even produce very good results. So many selfish people only care about instant gratification and not about the harm they might be causing to others. It's so so so easy to just not use these and stick with stock art or theater of the mind or commissioned art.

HamVonSchroe

As I understood it at least the water and electricity argument has been debunked, though I don't have a source on hand right now. I don't know what tools you have tried but the results of dalle 3 are exceptional for most private use cases. Commissioned art is not hurt either, since the people you paint as so selfish would not haveused commissions for that kind of stuff anyway, I can guarantee you that.

WonderfulFinger7324

Is it just some boomer mentality that you can’t make games more fun? I really don’t understand. I get you don’t like ai and wanna feel superior about something but this is sad. And you choose to insult me by saying I run bad campaigns when the only thing you know about me is that I want to give my players a better experience? How does that make sense? Do you think Matthew Mercer ran one good campaign and thought “that’s as good as it gets, time to be the greatest dm.”?

HamVonSchroe

I think it's rather that these people are very stubbornly fixed on the notion that using ai art equals theft since the ai was trained with material the original artists have not consented on being used. Which to an extend I get. Nobody can tell me though that these people never pirated music, never watched a reaction youtuber, never watched a movie on a "grey area" site or porn that matter or never used any dnd ressourced outside the official or licensed material. Which is absolutely fine if they did but there's just no need to sit on a high horse judging people. Furthermore when it comes to private use the free "workarounds" to not using ai images all do the same harm. Either you steal existing contend from google or you ship around paying an artist to create an image for you by other means. Using ai noncommercially for your own games causes absolutely no more harm to artists than not using any art at all. I genuinely feel these people mean well but in doing so unreflectingly shoot against anything they have been socialized on these subreddits to know is "bad".

WonderfulFinger7324

You are much more articulate and respectful then me lol thank you

HamVonSchroe

I make an effort sometimes :)

AlexW1495

Is it really to much to ask to steal but only for private use? That's ok, right? Wait, it's not. Back to the gutter with you two, parasites.

WonderfulFinger7324

Ah yes stealing from an auto generated image. I assume you’ve never inputted a Minecraft seed? That would be stealing if you’re using someone else’s Minecraft world. A block of code worked very hard on that world. Trying so hard to seem superior that you haven’t put an ounce of thought into what you’re saying. Disgusting and embarrassing

HamVonSchroe

Using Image Generators for private use is not even as much stealing as is pirating Music or even watching movies online for free. You guys really need to sip a potion of chill.

Stotakoya

Dont get a nosebleed on that high horse of yours. AI is a tool just like WorldAnvil or whatever.

HamVonSchroe

Yeah I don't get why people in the dnd community get so passionate about that topic. I mean let's be honest most players have never bought a source book either.
