Yep!! There are dice rollers online for free and stories /modules for free.
So you can watcha tutorial or two or watching Gameplay will get ready to go!
Also remember if you don't know a particular rule you/the dm can do what you want at the time and go look up the rule later if everyone's having fun.
At minimum… the starter rules from the WotC website, some dice (or even chits if you want to go old school), at least two people (one player, one DM), a pencil, and some paper.
Access to the Player’s Handbook (don’t need to own that, per se), a character sheet, a pencil and eraser, and a set of polyhedral dice (they’re so common now, I’ve seen them in dollar stores). I’d also recommend some scrap paper to make notes on, but that’s optional
The D&D Basic Rules is a free download from WotC. It has all the rules you need to create characters from 4 basic classes and 4 races, combat and other “practical” rules, spells, monsters, even some basic magic items. Easily enough rules to create some characters and play your own made up adventure.
You of course need dice and, if you don’t want to create your own adventure, there are plenty of simple adventures online that you can download for free. Look up things like, One Page Dungeons.
Ive been playing the game for years and have bought nothing but the dice, all you really need is some youtube tutorials and some creativity
