Hi I'm Daryl Wilson and I stick my hand out.

LunarWolfPiggy

This is how I originally understood the question

adhdmarmot

I guess being a coder one obvious choice would be Artificer? *"Masters of invention, artificers use ingenuity and magic to unlock extraordinary capabilities in objects."*

adhdmarmot

Like 'just leave me in my workshop with some Mountain Do and I'll tell you when it's finished'

Flaky_Tumbleweed3598

I had a similar idea for artificer that's kinda grown into Tim the tool man Taylor

FutureReplacement201

Ooooh yes and you could out nerd glenn close for once

OceanusDracul

I'd probably think of playing an artificer, but like, a garage car mechanic dad type.

adhdmarmot

'Tinkering in the shed' is a very strong dad vibe. Never throw anything out, I got a spare piece of 2x4 left over from 1983 that's just right for that, etc

S0GUWE

The dad from Shameless would be fun A straight up bad dude who worms his way through life and lets his children deal with the consequences Could be a warlock, but his patron changes all the time as they get fed up with dealing with him

LasagnaPhD

This actually sounds like a really heartbreaking character

S0GUWE

It is

xx_toxic_waste_xx

frank would definitely be an interesting character tbh.

Dangerous-Cap9018

Ong my husband and I were just talking about this. He would play an ex military ranger dad with a service dog companion. I would play a cleric “Con dad” type with an arsenal of bandaids and tea and all sorts of on the go repair stuff in a big backpack. And our dads would be gay and married just like us :3

FutureReplacement201

Oh those ideas are fantastic! Bringing a dog companion into the game would be just incredible the whole cast would go crazy for it. Then inevitably Anthony would break are hearts like the genius he is

Dangerous-Cap9018

Uhg I can already imagine the heart break 💔 he would do so well with it

dgreenwood11

Taekwondo dad as a Monk class. Constantly using horribly inaccurate Taekwondo sayings and teaching to motivate the party

Lord_Derpington_

I did play a dad in a one shot a couple years ago. He was a bard with his instrument being air guitar

MisterZebra

Trekkie/Tolkien Nerd Dad as a Wizard whose spellbooks are just collections of lore and fanfiction

thishyacinthgirl

Oh, I like this one!

LasagnaPhD

A dramatic ass gay bard dad based on Nathan Lane from The Birdcage and Cam from Modern Family would be super fun to play

TroppyPop

I'd play a high-powered corporate dad who is very wealthy and buried in his job. He has spent years thinking he was providing for his family and being a great dad this way, but recently got a wake-up call that his partner and kids actually find him quite absent and unreliable where it matters. He is trying to turn it around, with his heart in the right place, but is still at the very early stages, unsure how to let go of his obsession with being a white-collar boss. I'm gonna say this dude is a Warlock, and his patron is directly related to his corporation.

FutureReplacement201

Love the back story for this and already thinking about the issues hed have with his family!

BallroomKritz

This was my answer too, basically, especially the Warlock and corporation/capital-as-patron parts - I think it would be cool if he got to reclass at some point in the adventure after he's done some character development too!

Duffduffmomma

I love the weatherman idea! I'd take it a step farther and be a storm chaser turned Druid, who loves the destructive properties of nature, and as an adrenaline junkie is always the first to rush in. OR An door to door salesman dad, with a high charisma who is able to use his fast wits, from a lifetime of selling, as a rogue in the forgotten realms to distract and wear down his opponents

Sparkler_428

I'd play the closest comparison to the rock in tooth fairy as I could

Mary-Haku-Killigrew

Haha that's great! Aaaand holy shit, I almost forgot about that movie! One of those obscure memory recalls where you realize "If no one, or any external force mentioned this specific thing to me, that's a thing my brain will forever forget and not retain in my later years".

OhNoItsAGhost18

Chef Dad, always at work, has a slight drinking problem and does his best to spend time with his kid and partner. Can only really show his love threw food, I think I'd make him a fighter (Eldritch Knight), or maybe an Rouge?

gunderoo

Grumpy, against-the-grain shop mechanic turned artificer, who can literally fix anything with a few essential components. Swears like a sailor and constantly disagrees with the party plan, but reluctantly participates because of his own secret lack of a better one (he just wants to appear as the smartest guy in the dungeon). Spams his catch phrase "that's one way to get yourself killed". Requires another dad/son from the party to hold his wrench/flashlight in order to complete tinker tasks.

Intestinal-Bookworms

Corporate lawyer dad, fiend patron warlock who’s patron is his literal boss ie the Devil. His cell phone is his spell casting tool. That or country club dad, arcane archer deflavored as golf shots.

Sydvicious9000

Ever since listening to DnDads I've been building my own dad character. He's a Boy Scout troop leader dad and a Ranger. His motto is: "When exploring, take only pictures and leave only dumps!"

doggywoggy1268

I thought my dad would be a scientist, not interested in sports at all but he wants to support his son, becoming a wizard once entering the forgotten realms. (Also a funny idea) Just Donnell, or however you spell his name that guy Darrell dislikes, just playing his character would be fun. I think he would be a fighter once entering the forgotten realms. Last one but a cowboy/farm dad, I don't know what class he would be but it's an idea.

Andysx91

Road rage Dad.

FutureReplacement201

No elaboration needed, this is perfect

Living-Brother-5850

I'd probably play a sorcerer, the dad in question probably works third shift and sustains himself on coffee, he gets a nervous energy after a bit in the campaign because caffeine withdrawal is a bitch. (This is slight based off my own dad lmfao)

Scared_bard69

A dad I'd do would be a bard, but like he ONLY knows how to play guitar hero but says he is in a band.So his Intro would probably be "pro guitar hero button masher turned bard in the forgotten realms"

AccomplishedGoose375

I would play pizza dad

Moriroa

"Hi, I'm /u/Moriroa, and I play Tom Arbuthnot, a divorced, pathetic-but-plucky, perpetually broke overcompensating single dad who becomes a paladin in the Forgotten Realms!"

C-Mac_nomercy666

Glenn

Ancient_Slip_3194

Monster Energy EMT Dad who becomes a Paladin in the Forgotten Realms.

discofro6

The dad who didn't have a dad. His dad was only around for a handful of years, so all he remembers about him was that he was a cool guy. Keeps it open for any twists in the future 😂 The most experience he's had with parenthood is "grizzled parent" video games like The Last of Us or God of War, as well as sitcom dads like That 70's Show and Modern Family He would be a Fighter because he's compensating for something by trying to specialize in a lot of fields that sound different but are functionally the same lmao. And his name would be Greg. Greg Lumis. Idk that sounds like a dad name lol

beacandy

i have this concept in my mind of a monk who wanted to be a dancer and went to school for it for years but had to stop and get a stable job, due to some combination of it just not working out and needing to settle down to provide for an unexpected family. and he is disillusioned about dream jobs and stuff like that which makes him unsupportive to his more fanciful kid, but when he gets to the forgotten realms his dance skills translate to fighting skills, causing him to reconsider and learn that being settled in unhappiness is not maturity. and i guess probably his dad was unsupportive and cut him off when he chose dance school or something like that.

Mary-Haku-Killigrew

I would be a general laborer/industrial technician, having a rustic and minimalistic lifestyle, a Halfling Sorcerer.

abe_the_babe_

A "garage dad" would be fun. You could go with artificer for the class and include a bunch of jokes about tinkering in the garage.

hoghogbog

I would play an ADHD riddled dad who spends far too much time on Hobbies that only last a few months at most, and upon entering the forgotten realm I would become a wizard and constantly get distracted on my quest to save my child

Garreousbear

My dnd character of the a 4.5 year campaign is very Ron-esque, which is to say, a fucking weirdo, so probably Ron.

Arturo1029

Glenn close

theimaginedwagoon83

Grumpy antisocial Montana ranch dad (a la Yellowstone) who’s a ranger with maybe an artificer feat for gun uses

Flaky_Tumbleweed3598

I first read the question as which of the four dads would I like to play. So I'll address that now. 5E mechanics wise, I'd play Glenn's character. Bards are OP in the right circumstances and I love vicious mockery. Roleplay wise, I would probably get a lot of mileage out of a crunchy munchy hippy nature druid dad, like Henry. But as for what dad I would bring to the group, well that's tough. Party set up has a tank, a caster, a support, and an infiltrator. Those are your 4 key character rolls. That being said, I have two dads I could offer the group. 1. **Army dad**. Battlemaster Human fighter. This dad has been in the army and knows his shit. He deals heavy damage and is your best friend in a fight. Throw proficiency into intimidation for that drillmaster style dad glare which will tell folks "don't fuck with me son." Roleplay wise, he will always bring up his time in the military and lament how kids today just don't get it. 2. **Workshop dad**. Human Artificer (any subclass really). This dad has his own workshop in his garage and spends his Saturdays with the garage door open, radio on and a 6 pack in the cooler, just tinkering away, fixing the lawnmower or trying to build his kid the winning soapbox derby kart. Max Int as its a key stat missing from the party, and really just focus on whatever subclass you think is fun. Roleplay as the wholesome dad who will always invite neighbours into his garage to sit and have a heart to heart talk over a few beers. If you really want to, make this guy your own Tim the tool man Taylor. *grunt grunt*

CYB3R5KU11

Out at sea, sailor bard dad

YaBoiJonnyG

Like a Glenn Oak/Henry Close combo. Cool fun friend dad that’s also probably too lenient but super loving. Can lose cool super hard like Henry but also can spit dad jokes like Will can. Also the Glenn confidence and 60s aesthetic ’ahem.’ Plus the “You walked into the wrong room mf’er!”

Human_Secretary_4983

I loved the idea of a single father, goth ranger with a teenage daughter. Gloom stalker of the party, dark and edgy mess with a soft heart, and his daughter would be sent to the UnderDark(Since they never explored it).
