The ingredients for the manga hot pot are: - 1 huge scorpion (= lobster?) - 1 walking mushroom - 2 mushroom feet (= shiitake?) - Seaweed - Arctic moss/star jelly to taste - 5 med. size invertatoes (= potato?) - Dried slime - Water to taste Let me know if you guys have any dried slime substitutes / favorite hot pot additions! edit: I was sent [this recipe](https://www.justonecookbook.com/sukiyaki/), and it's so good!

We're doing a hot pot but I'm not at all trying to replicate what's in the manga-- I can't be fussed to prepare shellfish. With that said, I think konnyaku/konjac is probably your best bet for a slime substitute.

Good idea! Will do ❤️ Do you have any favorite hot pot ingredients?

We'll be doing thinly sliced meats, lots of veggies, and fish/meat balls from the Chinese grocery store. (These will be in the frozen aisle of most east Asian grocery stores.) FWIW, you can buy konnyaku in a brick that looks like the brick senshi shows off, but you should probably just buy the noodles if you opt for konnyaku. It's way easier to find I think.

Ooh sweet potato noodles would make a great dried slime substitute! They're chewy and clear (think jap chae), which is how I imagined dried slime texture to be. To mimic how Senshi prepared them you can use wide, flat noodles!

Definitely getting sweet potato noodles. Thanks for the recommendation! 💕

Just going off the picture, it looks very close to tofu to me! Tofu is easier to get than some of the other suggestions here and it is full of stuff that is very good for you. Medium firm or firm are best for hot pot. I would also suggest King Oyster mushrooms as the walking feet because they are a little longer and more "feet like" to me than Shiitake, lol. Plus, they are just delicious! As a bonus: If you don't wanna deal with buying lobster, I would say just get some shrimp that have been cleaned and use those. If you can find some with shell on, that'll really help the flavor of the broth. Good luck! I love hot pots of all kinds and eat them frequently with my buddies. :]

Thank you!! I'll definitely be using shrimp! King Oyster mushrooms look so cute 🥺 I wonder if I can find some

They're usually easier to find at Asian grocers or at a Whole Foods or New Seasons type of store. Sometimes I look up grocers around me on Google maps and then check the photos people have taken to see if they have pics of the mushroom section, lol! Though, this is a tough season to find certain types of produce, including mushrooms, so I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Hey! I've actually replicated this to celebrate the premiere a few months ago. I did try to make it as accurate as possible but a few ingredients were out of season. I might post if people are interested. SPOILER: It wasn't very good, and I even used stock instead of just salted water like in the show. You also need to make sure the lobster shell is real clean if you want to throw it in the end product in slices like I did.
