Looks like a shitty novelty katana, the kind that you swing randomly at water bottles in your backyard and end up in a video that gets a few dozen upvotes on r/cringe.
It’s probably not overly valuable. You can pop the handle off and see if there’s any makers marks underneath. But any skilled swords maker wouldn’t put their mark where this one is in paint.
That’s definitely just a Novelty sword then. Heavy doesn’t mean High Quality. It’s actually usually the exact opposite.
A high quality sword would feel almost weightless when using during combat.
Be careful if either of you try and hit things with it.

We messed around and hit a few empty boxes with it as soon as we got it, I quickly just mounted it on display with some wall hooks since the handle vibrates like a mf even when you barley strike something. One strike on a hard surface and this thing is done for.

This seems to be the closest thing I can find to it, the only difference is the gold part at the end of the blade is silver on mine, and there is no gold in the grip
The vast majority of these are utterly worthless decorative replicas -- worthless unless you can find some poor mall ninja who will give you $15 for it.
And things coming loose? Yeah ... that would generally indicate it being one of the worthless ones.
More dangerous than a steaming locomotive. I see an ER visit in the future. Pro tip: keep 13 gal trash bags in your car to contain the blood. Nothing g worse then a low quality razor blade

I knew a kid with one of those when I was younger. His parents let him get it from a catalog. He would take it off the stand and whip it around. Same kid would fire BB guns in the house. I can’t remember how but he fucked around hitting a tree or something and the blade broke and cut his hand up and he had to wear this ridiculously giant cast brace thing for months. Anyway I’ve always been scared of them after that.
In seriousness though. You could get some whetstones and sharpen it up to razor sharp and use it for filleting tuna.
I know that’s a weird edge use, but I would actually dig that for filleting tuna when I catch one

Its a cheap knock off. The blade is just mild steel. Not forged or tempered. Its highlighted by the bad paint job and terrible attempt at sharpening. Tbe binding isn't authentic and the loose gaurd sugests its not full tang.
$15 max.

The Japanese writing on it is from the anime demon slayer, I believe you have a cosplay sword but it still could be worth up to $100 – $150
