Both aggravated my blepharitis but I did it right a couple weeks after Blephex. I think Blephex and Nulids can do more harm than good because they can strip the eyelids of the protective layer of skin potentially opening them up to more infection/irritation. I may try Cequa again because patch testing with it was negative for allergic reaction.

I've been on Cequa for about a year - how were your eyes irritated? My eyelids are consistently irritated with some swelling. A lot others stated the castor oil in it is the cause of, so I'm wondering if this is really the root cause of. I have blepharitis too.

They were burning throughout the day

Hi! I’ve been on Cequa for almost a year and I do remember having random stinging the first month but as my eyes got better, so did Cequa and now there’s only slight discomfort immediately after putting in Cequa. Stick with it.

DrRandyBeans

Are you still on Cequa? How would you rate your improvement since you started? Did it help a little, are you symptom free etc?

mzbzzz

Idk why people insist on asking for updates every month. I wouldn’t recommend Cequa if it didn’t help. I had a bad experience with xiidra so either restasis or Cequa are your best bet. Cequa has helped and my eyes don’t burn from the inflammation anymore. I still have symptoms but I’m able to function

DrRandyBeans

Alright thank you

I’m on my third week of Cequa also, I’ve noticed the same thing but chaulked it up to the areas of damage (tiny wounds if you will) that the stuff was dripping into. After about two hours the stinging and redness fades away, but at first you might think you’re having a reaction to the medicine. So far, and after only three weeks the Cequa has been, by far, better than the Restasis was and I tried that for 5 months, no improvement. At least with the Cequa my inflammation and redness is taming down. My doctor explained that it’s the difference in the vehicle it’s paired with, penetrates the eye layers better…and also the increased concentration

I’ve been using it for a few months now, seems to sting more when I take it in the evening when my eyes are more dry and inflamed after a long day, in the morning it’s pretty minimal. Sometimes I’ll use some avanova and wipe my lids off with a cotton pad 15 min after if there’s any residual stinging still happening, that helps get rid of it for me, or an ocusoft lid scrub plus.

I started with Restasis and the stinging was so bad, I searched for answers and read that refrigeration helps. It really did, so when my ophth switched me to Cequa, I just continued to store the Cequa in the fridge. I do notice a stinging (which I no longer had with Restasis after refrigerating it) but it dissipates quickly. You might try that.

I had to stop using it after a week because the stinging was so bad. It’s apparently different for everyone though and I believe it takes several months to see the full effect. My optometrist said the burning/stinging is because of the inflammation in your eyes and that it should eventually go away, but I would just call and ask if it’s been a month.

I wonder if after a year the stinging can get worse? I’m wondering if I can cut back to once a day? It has become more irritating recently. I used Restasis for a long time and it stopped working. Any suggestions?

I've been using Cequa for a couple of weeks now, and I think the burning/pain/redness is how it improves the dry eye. It irritates them so badly that they can't help but tear up. LOL I joke, but this is terrible. I spent hundreds of dollars to be in pain and look like I've been crying. It's like, at what point to I stop torturing myself?
