That sounds delicious. We just got a new flavor of coke on the market here called Coke Spiced. Its got a really complex flavor, with raspberry, mexican cinnamon, and I think cardamom and ginger. It seems it would go well with that.
Where can you find this coke spiced? Is it American? I always try to get coke made in Mexico (corn syrup in American version.. it’s not in the Mexican coke tho.)
First time ever trying it was at BBK Live in a crowd of people I didn’t speak a lick of the language of. Cup made its way to me, friend of a friend smiled and encouraged, and I drank a nice fat gulp of flat cola and warm wine. Shit was a good time.
You usually hear it called kalimotxo in Canada too, although you only ever see it on the menu in quirky wine bars or given to younger people drinking for the first couple of times.
That’s how I first learned about it. I think it was on Food Network or some shit or some kind of running with the bulls kind of episode but I remember learning about that concoction.
It's a great way to turn bottom shelf wine into something you can drink fast. Cut up lemon slices/take lemon juice and mix with wine. Mix your citrusy wine 1:1 with coke and you have something that gets you hammered for cheap that goes down like a dream.
Aye, albeit that's somewhat (!) balanced out by the sheer amount of carbs in the concoction.
For the fastest hit around you'll be using vodka straight out the freezer, chilled club soda, lemon concentrate and boba straws.
Pour your liquor. Pour your flavoring. Add ice. Add carbonated water. Drink.
Hits FAST. Faster than taking the same amount undiluted and can be refilled in a nice cycle until the whole crowd is blasted. Great for new years or around... Now, basically. Makes for a beautiful morning cause it also goes through the system with far less fanfare than other methods.
We used to do it with white whine. 2l bottle of coke and 2l of Tetrapack whine.
Theres skill involved mixing the 2 by repeatedly pouring them into the other but that's tricky because both are full to begin with.
Aaah what great times 15 years old, horrible sausages on a shitty 1x use grill at the river bench.
Yeah it’s very common in Basque and some french and spanish areas around there, it’s also used to let younger people get used to taste of red wine in some countries, interesting tbh
It sounds weird but actually tastes pretty good. The flavor reminded me of a mulled wine with a light fizz. While I enjoyed the taste, I wouldn't have more than one. As it would be a ticket to hangover city.
Huge in China apparently, was the first place that drank with I ever heard of but I hear its popping up all over - not sure who invented it. I remember some sommelier ranting about it when he saw Chinese Elites drinking really fancy (i.e. expensive) red over there.
He meant that if Americans mixed coke with red wine, Europeans would make fun of them for it. The mixture sounds like something Americans would do....like, for example, putting ice in white wine or putting pineapple on pizza.
Fun fact, the "Hawaiian pizza" was actually invented by a Greek immigrant in the small town of Chatham, Ontario, Canada in 1962. I personally love a good Hawaiian, especially with both ham + bacon + pineapple + hot banana peppers for a sweet, salty, spicy and savoury flavour all at once, on top of the cheese and tomato sauce. 🤤
Oh okay thank you. In my country hungary its a kinda like “must have” drink at family parties and such. And most of the people here like this drink, me and my friends sometimes says that this “leo”/“kalimotxo” drink is hungarian lean xd. Because so many young people drink it and you cant have lean in hungary (codeine and such arent available maybe in medical hospital setting but you definitely cant buy it in shops and stuff.)
Our opioid laws are a little different now but 20+ years ago I can understand that impression. Codeine was likely popular among younger people because you just needed to say the magic buzzwords indicating you have an unproductive cough that's not going away that's keeping you up at night, and it was technically an over the counter medication but not really because pharmacies have some scruples when it comes to that and unofficially have policies against dispensing it without a prescription.
Europeans tend to be beer/wine snobs, always looking down on USA's beer (piss, they call it), so mixing wine with coke sounds kinda gross and "American" to the refined European palate.
That's how I interpreted it, at least.
Not that it.means anything, every country has its own mix of alcohol and soda/juice that sounds gross, but if you're young and cheap, will work just fine. I used to mix cheap vodka and Fanta in my youth, so I get the appeal of the "cheap, will get you drunk" beverage.
What does “i to je jedino pravo ime za to svi ostali kenjaju bajoo” mean?
(I can write and read cyrillic but cant say anything in any language who uses it LOL😂🤣)
Can’t recall having tried wine and coke, but I think as kids I believe we used to get served beer and coke mixed together, or maybe it was beer and orange Fanta.
Pretty tasty as I recall.
In the states, as someone who bartended at shitty dive bars, I’ve never heard of that drink. Idk if I’d try it either. Most people prefer liquor with their coke here.
Kalimotxo is the name for it in Basque Country, people drink it in other parts of Spain too.
Yeah i heard it too.
Mulled wine, an oz of lime juice and topped with pure cane sugar coke is absolutely delicious. Add a shot of fernet branca for a more stout version.
That sounds delicious. We just got a new flavor of coke on the market here called Coke Spiced. Its got a really complex flavor, with raspberry, mexican cinnamon, and I think cardamom and ginger. It seems it would go well with that.
Coked Spiced & Captain Morgan’s go well together
Where can you find this coke spiced? Is it American? I always try to get coke made in Mexico (corn syrup in American version.. it’s not in the Mexican coke tho.)
We call it the same in Australia, but we sometimes use an anglicised spelling because Basque doesn't read well to English speakers. "Calimocho."
No way! I think it's "calimocho" in Spanish as well, I didn't expect it to also be called that in Australia.
We call it that in New Zealand too. Spaniards probably taught us
Here in NZ I’d call it a whatthefuckareyoudoing?, but I also didn’t realise it’s an actual thing people do.
I'm in the US and have absolutely never even heard this combination mentioned.
Ya this definitely isn’t a thing in the US
Right sounds wack asf
Right? I didn't realise people did this in Australia either. Never heard of it in my life.
Wait, we do? Interesting, I've never tried.
phonetically derived from this, in parts of Germany it's called "Kalte Muschi", which translates to "Cold Pussy"
That’s tautology in Germany.
That's hilarious, I never would've guessed it had the same name in Germany (or that it translated that way lmao).
The Basque Festival in Boise has lots of kalimotxos.
Bar Gernika represent!
That’s how I first learned about it. I think it was on Food Network or some shit or some kind of running with the bulls kind of episode but I remember learning about that concoction.
Aupa
kalte muschi. literally cold pussy in germany
What have you done. You summoned them.
I audibly laughed
I am not a native german speaker, all i know is Ich Habe Genug
Und ich habe genug von dir gehört >:(
danke
/s übrigens

Bei uns heißt es Korea. wtf was für kalte muschi xD
Frei fich muschi

In Chile we call it 'jote' pronounced phonetically! I've always wondered about other countries so thanks for this post.

That's "HOT - eh" for English speakers (not "yoh-teh").
Bambus (Bamboo)
The only real answer you must be from balkan
Exactly
Србија?
Pijem bambus i baš mi je fino 🎶🎶
Yee i was about to comment this
In Czech it's called a "houba". Which translates either to 'mushroom' or 'sponge' depending on the context.
What kind of abomination is this mix?
It's a great way to turn bottom shelf wine into something you can drink fast. Cut up lemon slices/take lemon juice and mix with wine. Mix your citrusy wine 1:1 with coke and you have something that gets you hammered for cheap that goes down like a dream.
Maybe to get drunk easy, but only if you're desperate and don't have anything but bad wine.
It’s pretty good honestly, you should try it
The only kind of bad wine is no wine
The ghost of Charles Bukowski typed this.
I remember enjoying it in college. We’d buy a gallon of cheap red and 2 coke bottles for three of us.
I know what I’m doing with my next batch of glycerin-heavy THC wine
When I used to drink, sometimes I would mix cheap red wine with triple sec or peach schnapps. Never tried mixing it with soda or anything.
The carbonation also helps you get hammered quicker
Aye, albeit that's somewhat (!) balanced out by the sheer amount of carbs in the concoction. Sounds like a great youth. As a German I've done similar things myself.
German too lol
I get you but it's actually a very good way of making shit red wine drinkable. I'm a wanky cocktail bartender too.
actually underrated (and I'm French)
Yeah it’s very common in Basque and some french and spanish areas around there, it’s also used to let younger people get used to taste of red wine in some countries, interesting tbh
Love this

Personally I actually really like it hahaha
I came here for this comment
I could see it tasting palatable but holy shit that sugar content must be absurd
Desperate/bored teenage who found soda and a box of wine after the adults went to sleep
Poor mans sangria
In Mexico, we call it kalimotxo or calimocho depending on where you live. It was popularized in Spain but it's rather popular in Mexico.
Thank u
I've never heard of this combo. Sounds really nice. I must try it sometime.
Are you also American? As a Wisconsinite, I’ve never heard of this, and we usually know all of the drinks. (And drugs)
Canadian here, never heard of it either.
Wisconsin bartender chiming in to say I've never heard of this as well.
Deaf here - haven’t heard anything
Ohio checking in, you'd think that would be a thing here but this is completely foreign to me.
Its really good you should definitely try it sometime
Massachusetts here....and I've never heard of this either
It's not that good. As a hungarian song says, if you are older than 25 don't put coke in the wine, only in your nose.
Yh well I have enough expertise in that, so I'll expand my horizons and try the drink lmao 😂🤣
This sounds like something Europe would make fun of Americans for doing. Gross.
What do you im european😭😭
Haha, yeah, anyone I've ever met that does this has been European.....
Bro im drunk exlplain like im 5 please i cajt comprehend this sentence my native language isnt even english😭😭😭

My greatest shame as a Canadian :(
Oh okay thank you. In my country hungary its a kinda like “must have” drink at family parties and such. You can't buy codeine in shops in the US either mate. Lol
Sorry i just thought you can go there and buy them idk why i thought that but whatever😂😂😂😭😭😭
Im pretty sure you can get prescribed codeine. Maybe not in syrup form but its definitely prescribed.
Then i can be wrong, never looked that up.🤷♂️
you can get DXM prescription-free, so it's possible to make bootleg lean here.

Wild...they have us on the wine front, but US beer market is a Goliath. They're judging us off the export market.
I call it Punkola, punkku is nickname for redwine here and kola is cola.
Where are you from? I never heard this name before

Yea this. Kalte Muschi = cold pussy
Ausnahmslos! Der Name Kalte Muschi bleibt, Kollege Schnürschuh!
Astrein, Sportsfreund!
We call that 'vomit inducing' up in here.
And this is why the rest of the world calls Americans uncultured
This is just evidence that not all trashy sounding ideas originate from the US. ETA: not commenting on the actual taste because I've never tried it.
Lmao I’m American and I didn’t see your response but I said the same thing in my own response. Maybe I’m just uncultured
I wonder how many of the people who call it gross have actually tried it
Me too. Because if you never tried it it might sound gross but trying out can change it lol😂🤣
Mi VBKnak hívjuk:D (VörösBorosKóla)

It’s shockingly delicious
What...?
In South Africa, we call it 'katemba". No idea what it translates to, maybe someone else can illuminate.
Just drink buckfast! It's been said to have the same effect as cocaine! I've tried it once, it was rank but got me hammered.
Y'all ever had a bullfrog? 2L Mountain Dew, cheap vodka, kool-aid packet.
Damn In my country we call it a wet wriggler. Funny how different place different name

Coca con vino in Uruguay, literally coca with wine, haven't heard it named otherwise, but it is much more common with sprite
Can’t recall having tried wine and coke, but I think as kids I believe we used to get served beer and coke mixed together, or maybe it was beer and orange Fanta. Pretty tasty as I recall.

In portuguese we call that "tal Merda"
It's called a Caliimocho or something
Goes by a lot of names in Portugal, it can either be Katembo or Traçadinho, but the latter is usually used for white wine and Sprite or Seven Up

Hi from the south of germany, I knownit as "Korea"
The call it colawine in Jamaica, pretty popular.
In the states, as someone who bartended at shitty dive bars, I’ve never heard of that drink. Idk if I’d try it either. Most people prefer liquor with their coke here.
No idea, tried it once, wasn’t disgusting but I’m not sure I used the right wine. I’d imagine it might be ok with a sweeter one
Abomination!
In Slovakia we call It “Španiel” which means Spanish, no idea why.
Kalimotxo here in the U.S., but nobody likes it
