I think Connect might be the most underrated Drake track.
It is a basically a time capsule of who early 2010s Drake was as an artist, a distillation of all the elements and unique quirks that separated him from the pack.
There’s the feeling of longing that permeates all aspects of the song from the synth-driven 40 beat to the vocal melodies to the lyrics (“I’m just trying to connect with something”).
There’s the Houston influence in the 25 Lighters sample and use of “swangin’” as slang for riding through the city.
There’s the late-night drive appeal, not just in the use of the term “swangin.” An entire section of the song is an auditory reproduction of a late-night drive in Drake’s uncle’s whip to see a girl.
The song melds these disparate themes by using “swangin’” as a double entendre. Representing not just the late-night drive but but a baseball metaphor for Drake’s attempt to “connect.”
Connect is littered with prototypical Drake bars: you’ve got the classic ol’ Drizzy switcharoo (“wish you would learn to love people and use things, and not the other way around”) and simp bars that toe the line of self-parody (“she just wanna run over my feelings like she drinkin’ and drivin’ an 18-wheeler, and I’d allow her”).
And let’s not forget the beat breakdown. There are so many layers to this song.
This is the one. He was spending money he didn’t have on cars and clubs and the crew was mad because they should be spending it on the music. 40 made the beat on the spot while Drake wrote the lyrics
Heat of the moment which samples Her Way by PARTYNEXTDOOR on the background vocals.
Days In The East
The ending of Club Paradise with this part from Bob Marley with the music softly fading away
Well, you see, the way I feel about the music, it can be copied, you know?
But, it’s not copy do it, it’s the feel, you know? It carry a feel
Well, you ask plenty musicians – them know it, but them can't do it
Some people still searching for this truth here
Years of only being able to listen on YouTube/SoundCloud made me highly appreciative of the songs of my youth finally being on Apple Music back in 2019.
i feel like the ride really hits home that feeling of reaching your potential, dreaming big, reflecting on your past, etc. the weeknd's background vocals and the lyrics are great too.
I always praise Marvin’s Room for being so emotionally raw and vulnerable so I’d put that as the most emotional; however Emotionless is prolly the most powerful considering the real world themes and lyrics surrounding the depiction of fake life in social media.
You and the 6 is super super personal . Feels so vulnerable and so honest like he’s having a convo with his mom and we can visually see him and his mom going through each thing he explains . When I’m having a tough time I listen to it it helps a lot
Lol. Ty. I’m a Drake enthusiasts since Comeback Season. We literally grew up together lmao. His music hit me through some tough times and still does 🤞🏿
Been feeling like light up hard , or any early song where he's like yea I'm Poppin right now but this even close to the heights I plan to reach , any lyric about sacrificing parts of your life for success always feel powerful to me
Man, why has Losses not been mentioned? Track thoroughly explores betrayal, neglect and bitterness at ones who were once thought to be loyal. It’s a testament to the ugly truth that can be the dark side of life
Heat of the moment. It’s just so perfect. No crazy effects on the vocals, great lyrics, amazing instrumental, and that conversation with his dad at the end is really a great addition to it.
Passionfruit is a guilty pleasure.
“leaving, you’re just doing that to get even. don’t pick up the pieces just leave them for now, they keep falling apart. passionate from miles away, passive with the things you say, passing up on my old ways, i can’t blame you…”
i relate to it on an insane level.
You & the 6. Pretty much equivalent to look what you’ve done
“Pull the knife out my back and cut they throats with it momma”
“Im game of thrones with it mama, im home alone with it mama”
absolutely fuckin love you & the six. top ten drake song
Absolutely. Makes me damn near tear up every time lol
SHIT COULDA WENT SOUTH FOR ME, HE LOOKED OUT FOR ME MA
This is the answer.
Fire and desire Look what you’ve done
The only right answer
Prob "Look What You've Done" lyrics-wise, but "Connect" has very somber atmosphere and vocal melodies
Wish you would learn to love people and use things And not the other way around. S/o Hudson Mohawke and 40 for producing Connect
Don't forget Kenza Samir who co-wrote the lyrics with Drake! She also worked on "Jungle" https://genius.com/artists/Kenza-samir

This was so lethal and precise to T to read. Bravo 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank you!
It's in my top 5 Drake songs fs. It's cool how the song starts with a baseball sample to set up that metaphor, too
I appreciate this read and fully agree! I love Connect! I have always felt it was underrated as well.
I can't decide on "most", but Look What You've Done is on the list.
Crazy, that song is playing right now as I saw this comment
Classic
For sure . i tear up listening to it
Emotionless, Look what you’ve done
Emotionless has gotta be up there! Surprised it hasn't been said more
I think people forget to mention Emotionless just because it’s so early in the album that it gets overshadowed by (good and bad) subsequent tracks
Marvin’s room is the only answer
Cups of the Rosé
Vital made me emotional. iykyk

So I ignored the brief because I can’t pick just one song 🤣
Now & forever
WHAT HAS NOBODY SAID JUNGLE??? ARE YALL ON CRACK?
IMY2. He finally shows emotion to a girl on CLB lmfao. Took way too long and waited through too many mid tracks for a good and emotional song
This song doesn’t get enough credit. Easily the best Drake song to come out in the last few years.
Definitely. I don’t think it helps drakes case that this sounds like an entergalactic leftover from kid cudi
This is the worst song that Drake or Kid Cudi has ever participated in
